you are 100% correct. i come back to this song so so often, my dad passed last july and he was the biggest weller fan in the world - this song always cuts me to the core when it comes on shuffle these days. great great lyrics, weller played it live 5/6 year back when he toured, sounded great. rip dad, i miss you more and more every day.
Doesn't matter how many times you see this..pure class, was there...god bless The Jam...thanks for the memories..always in my heart..difference between The Jam and every other band? Easy..they meant it..enough said👍❤
Agree. Loved seeing the Jam back then but a room full of salad dodging comedy mods today who only know the chorus to 'town called malice' is not ideal!
@James Hollings hard to believe, but my beautiful ex girlfriend, Shakira Spencer from Ealing, her body was found 26th of September 2022. She had been held against her will, tortured and murdered. They threw her body in her kids bunk bed. I'll be going again to the Old Bailey on the 3rd of February. May God rest her beautiful soul. Was only 35 years old with two boys aged 10 and 11.
I missed this at the time. Reading Paolo’s old book about him this summer drew my attention to this song. I still cannot understand how I missed it at the time. Still, I’m glad. It’s one of his/their best (and there are so many to choose from).
Fantastic song, I think the trumpets - which was an edging in of the Style Council stuff - was unnecessary & messed it up a bit. The song's better played as a straight ballad with guitars & drums.
I've always thought the horns were a bit too much as well. I think of they'd gone with a single horn -- a French horn or piccolo trumpet ala "Penny Lane", that would have been more appropriate.
The most underrated Jam song ever
What was the A side?
Excellent 🤔Sorry haven’t a clue

Best song ever 🎉
100% An Absolute Masterpiece ❤
I was bullied in high school and the only consistent presence I had was the jam and this song reminds me of how music can speak when people can’t
Wishing you a Greater positive Life , than those in your Past x
Pick up your lonely heart and walk on right through 🙏
Brilliant song, takes me straight back to my school days and the lyrics are awesome.
Still gives me goosebumps 👏 👻

Best version of Ghosts for me was this version from Bingley Hall Bham. Also used on Dig the new Breed. Their finest hour
I was there that day. Trans Global Express tour. I was amazed to hear this in June 1983 on Dig The New Breed. Great they were in Brum
Totally agree 👍
For very personal reasons, this is my most favourite Jam song ever, and this version resonates most.
Love this song there again the jam where a brilliant band paul Weller is a brilliant song writer
I've always loved this song! What a great song.

He'd show them all up for sure!
He's not desperate!!

Im sure Weller wrote this about me. It sums me up from beginning to end.
He did. About you … and me .., and a lot of people!
@@mjlotus thats the joy of his songwriting abilities.
@@corinnehansen4316 Agreed, and this is one of his greatest.
@@mjlotus it's exceptional. From first to last note, with lyrics to match.
he did, and you and I are the same❤
Has Paul ever included this into his solo set?
Favourite song from The Jam. Prefer the album version to live recordings. Wack the sound up to punch out the base line
Ps god bless Louise Williams..hope everything's ok with you?❤
Maybe their best song. Quite a claim but …
