Sy'real's hair cut was gorgeous on her, it made her look more fun/flirty than her previous blunt end hair style. Also, I get such a kick out of watching Brad view these videos like he's watching a Horror Movie. :)
Hey Brad, My theory on why its called a wolf cut is that it references the way the hairs grow on a wolf's tail. The hairs on the top side of the tail are short and the hairs on the underside are long. For the wolf the topside being short but thick naturally keeps the the tail from becoming a matted tangled nightmare and the long hairs on the underside can provide cushioning and insulation while laying on the ground. For the human being I feel it is a good idea for someone who wants to have long hair but doesn't want all the visual or literal weight on their head. Hair can be a lot heavier than you think since you don't notice the gradual weight change as it grows.
LOL! Now my theory sounds soooooo dumb! But you know those movie werewolves!? Those really dumb ones where they still basically look like a person just really hairy??? And then around the face the hair would tend to be longer in the back with alot of shaggy layers! That's what I thought the wolf cut was referencing. But they just didn't wanna say werewolf cut so they shortened it to wolf cut 😂😂

@@bridgettepierce7144 I fully stopped going to the hairdresser after a lady was combing violently my hair after washing it... I was so shocked by her motions. Just before that she was telling me "OMG How did you get your hair to grow that long (they reach my butt) and stay that beautiful ?? It's so soft and smooth !" and I was just like "BY NOT BEING SO AGGRESSIVE WHEN COMBING IT ?!" Between that and the fact they make you pay an insane amount because your hair is long (why tf do I cut way less than people with mid-length hair but I still pay a lot more ?), I was just done. I cut my hair, I do the layers that I want, and it works perfectly, honestly. And as a kid, when I was maybe 8-9, my mom asked the lady to do a bob cut to me and the lady did a bob cut, alright... that stopped above my ears.
I've usually had someone I know cut my hair, my family knows some hairdressers (I've realised I don't trust my mom enough to cut my hair after the nth time) But at the same time, I feel like I've been to quite a lot of different hairdressers (it's usually just like "oh, there's a hairdresser, it's about time you cut your hair, let's go cut your hair" - so I don't think I've been to the same hairdresser many times), and the only one that was memorable was one in Hong Kong (I think I went there like every time I went to Hong Kong) - as a child, I absolutely hated the hairdressers who washed my hair and don't care that I've got water and suds in my eyes, so it was rly nice to have someone take more care and lightly dry my face when water droplets fell on my face;; I honestly just looked forward to having them wash my hair since I never rly cared about my haircut**, but I also remember it just felt so much better getting my hair cut/trimmed there ** (I've apparently requested some haircuts in the past, but I have no memory of wanting anything specific)

It might also be the styling, because most people who get a wolf cut style it a certain way. Could be wrong though, i don't know much about different hair cuts Edit: a lot of people are saying it's kinda like a shag mixed with a mullet, and/or they just make the layers more wispy or something? Idk
The first girl’s hair is so pretty! Like even with all the work and color she’s done to it, it still looks beautifully smooth and silky like barbie hair! And yass queen those layers are gonna look amazing with her natural curl!
thank you brad, I personally do not have the self preservation to bother with keeping my scissors sharp or my razors away from my hair but I’m glad you liked the end result 😌😹 next time maybe I will go all out 🧐
Why feeling attacked? Curly hair is always dryer than straight hair. Therefore it needs more moisture. Those are just the characteristics of curly and straight hair.
Didn’t know this technique had a name. I cut my hair like this for about 15 years and my hair stylist friend was always shocked how good it turned out for cutting it myself.
I gave my daughter a wolf cut using a layering tutorial and a little improv. It turned out amazing. Chunky, fluffy, wild. Her hair is natural gold blonde and curly. When it's curly it looks very 70s 80s when it's straight it's very edgy and "new" looking. Very "wolf like" I actually love it on her! She's due for a trim maybe I'll make a video for you lol.
I got brave and did this wolf cut. I was so tired of my thick ass hair sticking to my neck in this heat when my hair is up. I cut off 7 inches, and I'm not even mad. I cannot believe how well it turned out. It's so crazy how it comes out all even. Just put some texture at the end and it's damn near perfect. Thank you Brad for showing us all how to do this. You rock!
Same! Just started a business and too broke to get my hair cut *yet* instead of focusing on supplies/etc. This cut has cured me of my curse of endlessly thick hair and split ends.
Back in my Hippie days in the late 60's early 70's - you cut a 'Shag' haircut by hanging upside down off a swing set or whatever would put you in that position, then looked straight into the horizon and your friend would cut your hair straight across parallel to the ground. The straighter the better. Then when you flipped back upright, Voila!! You often had to smooth edges around the face and the back, but depending on your hair type, it looked pretty good. Especially with thick hair. With straight hair it was best to have it wet and combed straight while hanging by your knees. :) Pretty much the same idea as a 'wolf cut'.
Yup,even in 80s rockers like Vince Neil, Bon Jovi, even Sebastian Bach, his was a long variation. Had a wolf type cut. Basically the wolf cut is a "180 degree " long layered hair cut
i actually had a wolf cut done by myself, i used the wrong scissors so my hair ended very splitted,,, BUT, the layers were perfect, i think it comes down to paying attention to what you’re doing and having an intentional thought process behind every step! its really a flattering cut
The way Brad’s voice broke in worry when he talked about how “we’re not even going to texturize it” and then his stupefied expression when she revealed lol killed me. Brad I love you and your reactions. 🤣
sy’eral's hair is 100% hair goals.. for real. I've had a lot of thinning due to early menopause issues and used to have super thick healthy hair.. I would give anything for that beautiful hair!
Blue hair girl is the exact cut I want. I've been blowing out my hair with a middle part for a couple weeks now and it's gorgeous but I'm like girl you need some shorter layers and more fringe. I'm getting super excited now. I'm gonna deep condition my hair then get to cutting. It's super long, about half way down my back now so I think I can afford to take like 3-4 inches off the unicorn
I just did mine and it came out exactly like first girl. I think you have to have really thick hair to pull it off. The other two's hair seemed fine and thin so they didnt get the "shaggy" look.
Been doing this since the 70s we called it a Shag, but we didn't pull the hair up to the front we pulled it to the top so the front layers weren't so short. We also always did dry cuts no matter what cut we were doing.
I wish I'd known how to do this at the time- I had so many terrible haircuts back then! My mom's hair is drastically different from mine so she was nooooo help! I haven't done this yet but I'm going to soon. Is it better if your hair is clean or dirty I wonder?
@@realangiechrist I’d wet your hair, while it’s dirty, bc that way you can wash it after the cut and it’ll settle properly and you’ll get an idea of what it actually looks like, if that makes sense?

I definitely have too much hair. My hair cannot be styled blunt. It has to have a lot of layers and a lot of thinning. Bonus my hair is thin and stick straight. Kinda annoying, kinda ok I guess.
@@ReptilianTeaDrinker yeah, keeping a side part always help for me too. But i personally I'm kinda obligated to keep a fringe because the weight of my hair makes it keep falling on my face and this bothers a lot 🤣 but to be honest if wasn't that i wouldn't keep bangs at all

Mostly, I'm pretty sure the wolf cut started trending because so many people ended up with major breakage after at home bleach experiments during lockdown. The super short top layers with the thin, long bottom layers... thats trying to blend breakage while "keeping" length. Props for turning a hair fail into an internet trend and a fairly cute haircut.
It was a popular cut in Japan for a long time, pretty sure it came from there. But it also does look kind of like a wolf mane when you look head on. Their neck hair looks like layers

It's because wolves have an undercoat and top coat. They are considered a "shaggy" breed of dogs.. A wolf cut can be "shaggy" also. 😉 It's all about the different layers of the coat or hair.

Iv’e been cutting my hair this way for almost 17 years. I’ve also done this fir others and found that it’s a great way for those with thick hair and especially curly hair to remove a lot of the weight but leave the length. Those with thinner hair, this cut can make it look thinner and doesn’t layer correctly. You also have to make sure that the thickest part of your hair is the under layer or it will look scraggly.
Same, I didn't even know this was a 'thing' or that it even had a name! My sister and I have been doing this on and off for over 20 Years! I 100% agree it is GREAT for hair that is thick and curly. I have thin hair and I cut my hair like this, I really really love it sm, when I use volumising products and have curly hair it looks SO good and thicker than what it actually is, but I didn't bring my hair all the way to the front, I brought it a bit above the crown to cut and I have really short layers at the back of my head which give me volume and make my head shape look better

It's an 80"s Farrah Faucet shag cut with an updated name, plain and simple. I rocked this hair cut all through high school (only we barrel curled it) and varied forms of it throughout the years. The most bizarre procedure to cut this style was a male hairdresser that had a back swing type of chair and would turn his clients upside down to cut all the lengths from where they hung upside down, which would be the equivalent of pulling all the hair straight up from the head and cut from that elevation, he was just using a gimmick to upcharge for the cut.
Same here. I was so happy with it. I think I’m going for it again when my Mohawk grows out. Don’t look at my picture. I have new cuts and colors every 6 months. I never did the chair thing. It must have been loads of fun.

I fully stopped going to the hairdresser after a lady was combing violently my hair after washing it... I was so shocked by her motions. Just before that she was telling me "OMG How did you get your hair to grow that long (they reach my butt) and stay that beautiful ?? It's so soft and smooth !" and I was just like "BY NOT BEING SO AGGRESSIVE WHEN COMBING IT ?!"
Between that and the fact they make you pay an insane amount because your hair is long (why tf do I cut way less than people with mid-length hair but I still pay a lot more ?), I was just done. I cut my hair, I do the layers that I want, and it works perfectly, honestly.
And as a kid, when I was maybe 8-9, my mom asked the lady to do a bob cut to me and the lady did a bob cut, alright... that stopped above my ears.
I've usually had someone I know cut my hair, my family knows some hairdressers (I've realised I don't trust my mom enough to cut my hair after the nth time)
But at the same time, I feel like I've been to quite a lot of different hairdressers (it's usually just like "oh, there's a hairdresser, it's about time you cut your hair, let's go cut your hair" - so I don't think I've been to the same hairdresser many times), and the only one that was memorable was one in Hong Kong (I think I went there like every time I went to Hong Kong) - as a child, I absolutely hated the hairdressers who washed my hair and don't care that I've got water and suds in my eyes, so it was rly nice to have someone take more care and lightly dry my face when water droplets fell on my face;; I honestly just looked forward to having them wash my hair since I never rly cared about my haircut**, but I also remember it just felt so much better getting my hair cut/trimmed there
** (I've apparently requested some haircuts in the past, but I have no memory of wanting anything specific)
My mom used to do this to her own hair back in the 70s...from her pictures, she looked like a goddess with tons and tons of luscious feathered layers.

Edit: a lot of people are saying it's kinda like a shag mixed with a mullet, and/or they just make the layers more wispy or something? Idk
The first girl’s hair is so pretty! Like even with all the work and color she’s done to it, it still looks beautifully smooth and silky like barbie hair! And yass queen those layers are gonna look amazing with her natural curl!

Didn’t know this technique had a name. I cut my hair like this for about 15 years and my hair stylist friend was always shocked how good it turned out for cutting it myself.
I think my jaw literally hit the floor and stayed there for 5 minutes with that first girls haircut. OMG! It looked SOO GOOD!!!
She's due for a trim maybe I'll make a video for you lol.
omggg you sound like the coolest parent ever. i’m sure your daughter looks absolutely adorable with that cut!!
Nice

Everything Syeral does looks crazy at first but always turns into a gorgeous finished product. Every single time.
True
Nice
I love that aw!
The wolf cut is just gen z's take on the shag! It's never stopped being cute imo~
Yup,even in 80s rockers like Vince Neil, Bon Jovi, even Sebastian Bach, his was a long variation. Had a wolf type cut. Basically the wolf cut is a "180 degree " long layered hair cut
Thank you for that visual haha
BTW, a DevaCut is a cut given by trained DevaCurl professionals specifically for curly/ natural hair.. if anyone was wondering
Yes I was, thank you 💕
They do a great job. My daughter has 3C hair and that’s the only people I really trust to cut it and keep it healthy.
This takes me back to the “scene/emo” hair tutorials watched on the internet, and cutting my hair with razor blades to get that “layered effect” 😂

It’s a shag. They call it a “wolf cut” because it tufts out on the sides like wolf fur does around their face, and you style it messy.

Its from Korea/japan called a wolf cut or hush cut.

I love that the last girl was wildly swinging between "its not that bad, we can make it work" and "oh god it's so ugly how do I hide this"
The first girl talked me into a wolf cut, the second two talked me out of it...
the last girl's energy was hilarious she was so cracked out.
I just did mine and it came out exactly like first girl. I think you have to have really thick hair to pull it off. The other two's hair seemed fine and thin so they didnt get the "shaggy" look.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
We need to see Brad attempt this technique on a new Miss Manny Quinn.
BAHAHAHAHAHA “Miss Manny Quinn” that might be a great stage name if it isn’t already 🤣
That first girls' hair was stunning!!! The blue color, the haircut, the blow-dry!! Chef's kiss
Been doing this since the 70s we called it a Shag, but we didn't pull the hair up to the front we pulled it to the top so the front layers weren't so short. We also always did dry cuts no matter what cut we were doing.
Right? It reminded me of Loretta Switt’s hair from M*A*S*H, which I always loved
I wish I'd known how to do this at the time- I had so many terrible haircuts back then! My mom's hair is drastically different from mine so she was nooooo help! I haven't done this yet but I'm going to soon. Is it better if your hair is clean or dirty I wonder?
IKR!! I am turning 35 and I am seeing all the styles come back around (hair, fashion, music) I didn't think it could happen to me.
@@realangiechrist in my experience, clean hair is easier to work with and combs more evenly (I have fine, mostly straight hair)
@@realangiechrist I’d wet your hair, while it’s dirty, bc that way you can wash it after the cut and it’ll settle properly and you’ll get an idea of what it actually looks like, if that makes sense?

When you look at a wolf sitting and looking directly at you, the large floof on their neck and head looks like layers

That and wolves do have layers to their coats. That's how they survive cold conditions. Then when Summer comes, they shed.

I thought it was called wolf cut because the shape resembled wolf hair shape ?
She's been blessed by the hair gods. They never forsake her.
I thought it was because it’s a shag haircut, and wolves are shaggy
That first girls hair was freakin’ gorgeous. The cut…the color…the volume…♥️♥️♥️
So, as someone with a LOT of hair, i noticed that the wolf cut technique usually goes better and easier when you have too much hair.
I also have too much hair, but have never tried the wolf cut. Thanks for saying this, cause I've never thought about that before. Though, I have to say, fringes don't suit me at all. I have to have my hair more to one side and keep the front longer. lol
But i personally I'm kinda obligated to keep a fringe because the weight of my hair makes it keep falling on my face and this bothers a lot 🤣 but to be honest if wasn't that i wouldn't keep bangs at all
This gives me hope

Mostly, I'm pretty sure the wolf cut started trending because so many people ended up with major breakage after at home bleach experiments during lockdown. The super short top layers with the thin, long bottom layers... thats trying to blend breakage while "keeping" length. Props for turning a hair fail into an internet trend and a fairly cute haircut.
Yep that is EXACTLY what happened to me 🥲
My theory is that the mullet became trendy again just because people were growing out their shaved sides! Lol. It's really not that cute.
It was a popular cut in Japan for a long time, pretty sure it came from there. But it also does look kind of like a wolf mane when you look head on. Their neck hair looks like layers
Yeah I went to the salon to get my damaged hair trimmed and I got a “wolf cut” a year before it was trendy and I fuckin HATED it lmfaooo I call it “the fried cut” bc it is

The first girl is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING GORGEOUS!!! Hair, Face EVERYTHING so so beautiful!!!!
It's because wolves have an undercoat and top coat. They are considered a "shaggy" breed of dogs.. A wolf cut can be "shaggy" also. 😉 It's all about the different layers of the coat or hair.
I thought this whole “Wolf cut” thing was something new but like everything, it’s just the same old stuff with a new name. History repeats itself.

The way Brad described the cut in the beginning being long in the back and getting shorter and shorter as we go up, it sounds like a layered mullet.
it pretty much is lol! that’s the appeal; like a mullet but fluffier if that makes sense
Layered mullets and other variations of the mullet have been around for centuries, every couple of decades a "new" spin on it comes into fashion

@@lofvee it's because the haircut should give off a wild, unkept but cool vibe, reminiscent of a wolf. The name is about the vibe, not about the cut itself.
@@veniceflytrap yeah but not really helpful to know how it looks like. When I read wolf cut I thought of the wolf guys on Twilight 😆
You also have to make sure that the thickest part of your hair is the under layer or it will look scraggly.
no way
Same, I didn't even know this was a 'thing' or that it even had a name! My sister and I have been doing this on and off for over 20 Years! I 100% agree it is GREAT for hair that is thick and curly. My sister has red curly/ wavey hair and she does this all the time, she can't NOT do it because her hair is so thick She HAS to thin it out, and when she styles it it looks Amazing!
Same. Nobody was supporting my cut-my-own-hair thing, but now everyone is doing it. There are right ways and wrong ways that definitely determine the outcome.
I have thick and wavy hair but its really frizzy, i want this haircut and rn my hair is like 3 inches past shoulder length, do you recommend I get it?
I have thin hair and I cut my hair like this, I really really love it sm, when I use volumising products and have curly hair it looks SO good and thicker than what it actually is, but I didn't bring my hair all the way to the front, I brought it a bit above the crown to cut and I have really short layers at the back of my head which give me volume and make my head shape look better
Wolves don’t have layers- only ogres and onions.

My mom’s hairstylist did this with my hair in the early 90s. It sure looked cool.
Same here. I was so happy with it. I think I’m going for it again when my Mohawk grows out. Don’t look at my picture. I have new cuts and colors every 6 months. I never did the chair thing. It must have been loads of fun.
