Oppenheimer - Movie Review

Oppenheimer is a 2023 epic biographical thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan, starring Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh & Robert Downey Jr. The film is based on the 2005 biography titled American Prometheus written by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, which chronicles the life of Oppenheimer, who was a theoretical physicist pivotal in the development of the first nuclear weapon as a part of the Manhattan Project.
The project was announced in September 2021 after Universal won a bidding war for Nolans screenplay, with Murphy signing on in the October. The film was made using a combination of 60mm and 65mm large format film IMAX, with some being shot in black and white (A first for IMAX). The story’s framing device spans from Oppenheimers security clearance hearing in 1954 until Strauss’s Senate confirmation hearing in 1959, with flashbacks taking place during the film to show where and when we are in the story.
