Thanks for the video. However, in my case the option to scan film is grayed out. Is it because the scanner does not have this capability (natively)? I have an Epson WF-3540 scanner/printer and I'm trying to use it with an external light source and the cover in open position.

I have an Epson V600 Scan 2. How do I remove auto-cropping on under-exposed slides. It's automatically eliminating portions of the transparency that needs to remain in the scanned image. Thanks!

Hello, when you bring up the preview you have the option of normal and thumbnail if you're using professional mode.
In the thumbnail view is where you can have a lot of issues with extremely overexposed or underexposed images, slides, negatives. Select normal preview and manually crop yourself.
It's a little bit more of a hassle but once set up the first time should be close for all additional scans so you won't have to re-crop every single time using normal mode.

@@firstchoicephoto Thank you so much for the great help! Yes, it'll be more of a hassle, but I'm willing to do it. I don't know how to set it up to where it won't require re-cropping, but maybe I'll figure it out. If you did a video of it that would be great. Thanks again for the great help!

Interesting you don't use digital ice because once the corrections are made in your scan you can't go back, yet you recommend using medium sharpening. If you are going to open your scan and make corrections in Photoshop, why not sharpen there as well? Photoshop allows for a lot finer sharpening control than Epson Scan. Myself, I use digital ice simply because I am scanning thousands of old photos and I find it does a wonderful job removing dust and other imperfections. If I had to edit them all in Photoshop I would be at this for years! But if you have the time, I would recommend doing your sharpening in Photoshop as well

The biggest complaint I have with digital ice is that it's so hit and miss. The second complaint I have with it is it really slows down the scanner. When a customer is waiting it's just so much easier to do it in Photoshop when you know the results.
For sharpening I found that medium is the same as the original looks. If I compare a scan that I print using medium sharpness they look similar in sharpness. Higher sharpness they look over corrected and lower they look softer. That's how I ended up with using medium.

Thanks for the video, but you didn't have the camera on you when you were demonstrating how and what you were removing

It was the white cover on the inside of the scanner lid.
