I worked at a Ford dealer 1970 remember all these cars well. And now the proud owner of a 1970 Grabber green Boss 302 just like the one pictured in this ad as well as a 1970 Mach 1. These are great cars have served me well

My first car was a 1970 Ford mustang fastback 3514v 4sp ram air gold colored. It cost 1300 dollars in 1975. I still have it today. I was never interested in selling it because I knew it was a special car I now have had it completely restored and take it to car shows. The amount of people who crowd around it to look at it is amazing. The 70 mustang fastback is one of the best looking muscle cars ever made!

Being a huge fan of cars from the late 1930's through about 1970, I too would love to return to the year 1970, when I was just 18 years old, and most cars more than six years old could be had at bargain basement prices.... Wish I could find a time machine.....

I was 6 years old in 1970! I remember my mom and dad test driving a new Maverick that year. One of the first cars I remember with the ignition/lock on the steering wheel. In fall 1970, Dad took me with him to test drive the new Pinto!

The American auto industry was all but decapitated with EPA mandate of pollution controls (catalytic converters) and their lead free fuels (we are the government so up yours). Add to that impossible (how the hell do you make an engine run on half the compression with a carburetor) and the oil embargo (add 150% to the price of gas) and Americans got the junk they deserved for the next decade.
President Reagan stopped the Communist, I mean Democrats, constant auto maker harassment with 10 years of letting the industry catch up with technology (computers and sensors).
I watched a PBS special in 1983 which asked a Ford Motor executive 'why their cars were getting so expensive'?
Sitting with them at the table was a UAW rep.
The Ford guy looks at the moderator and says, "Because we pay the UAW $68 an hour."
The Union dude jumped out of his chair and lost it.
The Ford exec. picked up three stacks of records equal to about 3 feet and set them on the desk.
"Ford is a publicly traded company and our books are open to the public. Our accountants all agree that with wages and benefits the average cost to Ford Motor Co. by the UAW is $68 an hour.
Today, the left's precious cash cow (UAW) has completely destroyed the 3 U.S. auto makers.
Not one of the foreign car makers presently building in the U.S. has any involvement with any unions.
Ford pays out somewhere near a Billion Dollars a year to American Families who haven't worked for Ford in Decades.

@@u2mister17 I am a retired auto worker with a broken worn out body who earned and deserved my salary which before taxes was $56000.00 bucks a year for a 40 hour week.
Always heard $56000.00 a year was typical Middle class salary more proof were not grossly overpaid to work in extreme noise, heat, grease, dirt and perform acrobatic feats in those comditions.
We also contributed to our healthcare, United Auto Workers dues and paid huge taxes and could afford to purchase the vehicles we built.
We set the standards for Non Union Shops who paid no Union dues but those same shops followed our standards to keep the unions out.
Staffer Chemicals was a good example because their employees benefited without paying Union dues.
Always noticed the same people who begrudged us making good wages usually drove foreign vehicles so why did they care.
All German Auto Makers have Union representation.
After Voltwagen built a plant in Tennessee management didn't understand that half of the employees didn't want to join the UAW because it was so commonplace in Germany.
I'd LOVE to go back in time and buy a fully-loaded Torino GT!!!!

I just love listening to that piano music sound under the green light shade tone of trees beneath the sun driving a beautiful light brown Ford Galaxie. These old 16 MM scratched out pictures are so dreamy and lightly discolored. It just makes you want to jump right into the screen and travel back to 1970 for a couple of days. Lol! My uncle had a 1970 maverick with a boss 302 automatic in it.It could move along pretty quick.
The first commercial did an immitation of The Rank Orginsation which shows a man striking the gong. A friend I know has a 1970 Ford LTD coupe which has bucket seats and a center console. Car was from Vancouver Canada.
It is a shame that 1970 was filled with such cacophony but Ford was quick to the rescue with the LTD! While the LTD did look sharp, I'd love to have one of those rarely seen Torino Cobras. Who needs quiet when you have a Cobra?
When you're young, you love the Cobra. When you get past 50, you appreciate the LTD!

I had two 1970 LTDs as company cars. Yes the first one was taken out the first day I had it with 107 miles on it. They were very nice road cars and the second lasted a long time..

Wow memories! Though only 8 in 1970 I remember some of these commercials. I was obsessed with cars from the time I could sit on his lap & steer there 62 Galaxie 500 XL (which they tried to give me when I was 15 but no I had to have that little black 64-1/2 Mustang with the 260 V8. Decisions! Lol)! Now at 56 I have at some point owned every single car in these commercials & others not shown the best of which was, at age 16: a 1970 XL convertible. This car was slightly different than other XL's of that year as the original purchasers; a military family in Albany, Oregon had ordered the car custom which included a 429 CJ engine. I paid $500 for this car when it was 9 - 10 years old .. a one owner. Sadly the car was sold to me because of the death of the original purchaser :( It had been stored in their garage for several years. Like an idiot teenager I sold the car after only a couple years (my parents had been mentioning how my little car collection was taking over all the parking in the neighborhood. Some had to go). Had I known then what I know now that one would still be in my garage. Though I had not seen many it was only in recent years that I learned how rare this car was. If you have never seen one there are a couple you tube videos you can check out. At this age I think we have all said "If I had known then", Lol. My 2nd hobby was photography so you might guess how many printed car pictures I accumulated through the years! Unfortunately the death of 4 family members and the suicide of a significant other all in a one year period caused a nervous breakdown and the majority of those photos have been scattered to the wind. Later years loss of a storage (auctioned as I was getting married. Grrrr) caused even more photos to be gone to strangers. A precious few remain unfortunately most if these newer vehicles that my kids and grandkids will look back on and say ... if only I had that. Lol. I sit and type this in a 2000 Mercury Sable LS. I wonder: since the Mercury division no longer exists will this car have classic value and be sought after sooner than it normally would be? I bought this car 4 years ago because the seller only wanted $200. Hesitant because I had a couple bad experiences with Ford Taurus's in the past; figured at $200 may as well take a chance. In 4 years all I have had to buy repair wise is a thermostat and a battery! Its an amazing vehicle. Like all cars it has a couple quirks but please don't knock the Sable or Taurus until you get a good one!!! This IS a good one! God Bless and Happy Holidays to all! Dj Salem, Oregon.

My Late Father in law Had a Beautiful Restored /Engine Modified 70's XL . It Had a Unique Yellow/Green Color. I Often Wonder What Happened to That Car . It Was Immaculate !!!
I didn't know Cobra Jets were available in full-size Fords.
They spent a lo-o-o-tta money on advertising.
I'd take one right now. Let me see which one I want. It would be a hard choice though. Maybe a Boss 302 Mustang, or a 428 Mach 1 .
If I could go back to 1970, I would buy a 428 Mach 1 with Hurst shifted 4 speed, and a 429 SCJ Cobra with a Hurst shifted 4 speed.

The late 60s and early70s. The height of the Lee Iacocca era at Ford. Iacocca at heart was a salesman and he knew what the people wanted. From what I read, quality was an issue at Ford because the bean counters never wanted to invest in it and Iacocca felt that if quality improved, Ford could have taken more than the 23 percent of the market it owned and eventually overtaken GM as number one. Alas, he had a falling out with Henry Ford 2nd and the oil crisis and new government CAFE standards would end the big and powerful car era that Iacocca helped inaugurate. Ironically, he was the first to come out with a 5 year 50k mile warranty on new Chryslers. The warranty selling game has been replicated by Hyundai/Kia and Mitsubishi and anyone else who had a product people were sketchy about buying

What I remember about my dad's 1970 Ford Galaxie 500 four door was the misalignment between front and rear door roll down windows made for a lot of wind noise that only got worse as the car got older. The rumble from the tailpipe was better than the 1965 Galaxie. But both paled in comparison to the ultra quiet (and huge) 1974 Galaxie.

Ford had beautiful model cars of all years and of all kinds. They also had great engines that were built to outlast on any roads. The problem with those cars is that the body and the sheet metal would start rotting out quickly because of the salt on the roads, during the winters. Unless they were quickly treated against the rust, the trimmings would start falling off, after a couple of years. Nowadays, you see Ford cars in most antique classic car shows, that even look much newer than when they initially came out of the factory, back in the olden days. In fact the cars look much better. That’s because they were well restored with super anti rust proof treatments and shiny expensive paint jobs. No wonder they said that Ford was a better idea car. Lol! Thank you. The 69 & 70 LTD line is my favorite LTDs 68 was a stand alone year 71 & 72 were unique 73 & 74 was a new era but 75 thru 78 they only changed the front & back of the car not enough because from 73 to 78 it was the same car for that over extended run I give Ford a F failing grade the same goes for GM also this is where Chrysler products really shined in my opinion I give them a B - even though they waited till 80 & 81 to redesign their land yachts GM beat everyone in 77 and Ford waited until 79
Dodge has the Challenger. Would love see Ford make a retro Torino, and GM make a retro Nova. The Mustangs and Cameros are nice, but not really old style anymore.
Honestly the only vehicle that still has retro character imo is a modern 2 door F-150 and it's not even supposed to feel like that

Mono.....back then.....somebody didn't send the mono sound through both channels to make these videos.
To a certain extent, Ford wasn't lying about the "quiet" aspect of their larger cars at that time... You'd get as much of the road noise cut out in an LTD as you would a more expensive T-Bird or Lincoln Town Car... The LTDs were even quieter inside than some of the competitors models of the same class...

I heard that about the 70s Japanese cars rusting on the ships coming here, brand new and with corrosion at no extra charge.
On a quiet night you could HEAR them rusting 😁 I've some 70's fords and I love em. My fave is my 427 AC Cobra.
Since October 2016, the Ford factory in Australia has been extremely quiet.

My 68 Galaxie isn't all that quiet, suspension squeaks (freshly rebuilt, but you wouldnt know it by hearing it) and the windows whistle going down the road. Engine is quite noisy as well, not even the exhaust. At idle the engine itself is louder than the tailpipe
Our family was a Ford family. We had several of them and for the most part, {if memory serves,} we didn't have a whole lot of problems with them Until.... {I don't remember which year it was '72/'73} when my dad purchased a white w/green interior LTD. It was a LEMON! Literally every other week, {or so it seemed,} that car had something go wrong with it. It was constantly in the body shop. Sure "Ford has better ideas," it's just that the LTD wasn't one of those "better ideas."
They were especially quiet....when they wouldn't start.
