I can not get enough of David Phelps. What a voice.
And Mark Lowry... His voice.. Wow
Mark Lowry has such a beautiful voice and a wonderful spirit. He helped a lot of people through the pandemic with singing hymns and sharing the Word. Thanks you all for such a beautiful song about the Freedom we thank Him for this Thanksgiving 2021.

I grew up watching this VHS tape over and over with my family. I have no idea how many years it's been since I've watched this particular performance, but I still remembered every note and riff that David hits. I think he was my first vocal hero. Truly a legend.

I too have watched this video countless times and my focus is always on David - can't help it , he stands up in the group because of his very powerful GOD given voice but thanks for pointing out Jason's expression, it really is priceless! I also noticed Ernie's face when David hit that high note on the last line of that song"Let freedom ring!" and that's how I feel - amazed ! every time I watched this video. Guy and David and Russ and Bill I think is the best combination of GVB ever!

Look at them, aren’t they reflecting the glory of God!…Guy with his long white hair like the whole horse to reflect angels, Bill who has known the Father and in whom the word word of God duels, Mark who keeps the group funky and happy and at last, David Phelps, the man of high pitches….God bless. To God be the glory for such an astonishing voice.

I just don't know anyone who hears this group sing that song without feeling so blessed to be an American! When David sings his solo part and gets to the part, "but when my Lord bought Freedom, through the blood of HIS REDEMTION, His cross stamped pardon on my very soul"! Wow... there's just not another that puts it out there like David! That was the first time I ever heard David sing and I've been hooked on his music ever since.

I’m pretty sure the music is Bill’s, but in most of their collaborations the lyrics are mostly Gloria’s. One of the greatest Gospel songwriting duos ever. The fact that they’re best friends and soul-mates, married 59 years this year (2021) makes it even better.

Yes, indeed, David should have sung it in the key of C#5 but slightly raised to D5, but it was extraordinary and he could still control it well 😂

Finally I Have found 'vevo' and just listened to the song Let Freedom Ring. Wow, I want that DVD. I am getting so caught up in all that GVB past and present have done, I feel like I am American! That song was magnificent and so was the singing. If only every human being on the earth would sing it together then What a peaceful place it would be. Thank you Mr Gaither from an English fan.
This was on Broadway NYC two years before 9/11/01 World Trade Center. God was calling our nation then and He is calling us now. He is not willing that any should perish.

What I love about this song is, you can be in bondage to MANY things in MANY ways, but the Lord Jesus Christ csn set you free. This isn't necessarily about a physical prison with steel bars but it's usually a way you've learned to deal with life that isn't good, healthy or legal. But Christ came to set the prisoners free from the way they've always done things or the bad things they've learned from family who didn't know any different. Thank you Jesus for showing me a better way to live my life!
I have listened to the GVB these guys are the best Bill ever out together I love all of them but Mark, Guy, David are the best. I go to sleep with this song singing in my head and I wake up with it still in my head and heart.

David was so excited that he actually came in on a D5!!! on the last modulation instead of a C#5....AMAZING. It is actually the very first time I have ever heard him sharp...or flat. What a tremendous voice!!!! Da boy can sang.
That was my exact thought! I've never heard him miss a note. Even when he missed that one, he NAILED it.

I havent had the training you've had. I have mainly just listened to singers and tried to learn by listening and watching.
***** Well, to be honest, I haven't had much professional training. I've had a couple great friends and family who've pointed me in the right direction and did the same thing you did. I listened to people like David Phelps, Steve Green, Larnelle Harris, Il Divo, and many others, to find the voice I wanted. It's thanks to Southern Gospel and Broadway Musicals that I sing at all! :)
