One thing I didn't discuss is actually purchasing the tuning hardware (normally Diablo or HP Tuners) and the cost of a custom tune. Either route and a custom tune, on average, is about another $1000+ depending on the tuner's cost.
Edelbrock kit is the best on the 5.7L. Full fuel kit, plugs, integrated intercooler Low boost, great, warranty, can make 500whp without even big supporting mods.
E85 is a no go for me here in Vermont, but my local Performance Shop gave me a quote when I had my 5.7 Shaker of 10 grand total for everything, tax, labor, 93 Octane Tune, Fuel Pump, injectors, Pro Charger, etc. I would imagine my Scat Pack would be about the same, 215 HP gain on my 392.
Don't go with the complete kit from Procharger. The tune is very conservative with that kit. Go with the tuner kit and purchase the tune from someone else. E-mail tunes from someone like Jay Greene or Dyno tunes are improvements over the tune from Procharger. E-mail tunes require you to datalog and are less expensive than a Dyno tune. I am not a Mopar guy so I don't know how much tunes from Jay Greene cost. I paid $600 for my Mustang. When you order your Procharger, get it with the helical cut gears. They are quieter than the straight cut gears and you don't get the tumbling rocks sound at idle. Add $250 to get the PCM unlocked or buy one that is unlocked.
I didn't want to get into the tuning aspect quite as much as I should have. All true points brother! Custom tune from a well known tuner is definitely the way to go!💪
I have a 6.4 and I’m swinging towards getting forged internals before adding any kind of power adders. Although, I have heard from a couple people that running 6 psi or less could be okay.
Forging is always a safety net but yes, as long as you keep it around 6lbs you should be ok but with everything when it comes to cars, there is no 100% guarantee. 😉
Might as well forge the internals and change the compression to handle the boost. If you’re putting the money into adding forced air, might as well do it right for the 6.4
Don, nice breakdown of the primary cost to ProCharge a 5,7 or 6.4, i think the cost for a unlocked PCM should be factored in also, being that a tune is an absolute requirement. If you are pre 2015 you save some money towards another upgrade.
I kind of bounced around the point of getting a custom tune. The ProCharger tune is really conservative and you'll get way more out of it with a custom tune from a well known tuner. 😉
Hey, what's the sense in lying about what you paid? All it does is hurt your reputation and piss people off when they find out the real price. I am 100% open book. 😉
I have the greatest stupid idea for what i want to do with my 5.7L magnum hemi.... Imma procharge it, put duallys on it and pod lights like those neat looking rally cars :3
You have to call whomever you are purchasing it from and let them know you have a 6.4 intake manifold. They should know what to order if not they'll contact ProCharger and make sure you get what you need. 😉
Hey Buddy, What I am Looking for is some Truthful advice.. for my 2015 RT Plus Shaker 5.7 Challenger with MANUAL. My car is Less than Impressive as far as Performance goes. I am By NO means a Go to the track Guy, But.. I do want there to be Jump in my Frog when I want it.. I have a New Diablo i3 Platinum Tuner ( Haven't used it yet ) I have already Installed a set of Kook's Exhaust System. (Long Tube headers and Hi Flow Cats, with Straight pipe and Flowmaster 10's.) I changed out my stock Wheels and tires, to 9.5" with 275's on the front, and 11.5" with 315's on the rear. I have a catch can In place, and a Mitsimoto 180 degree Thermostat, and I have installed a Cervini's Shaker Hood and Intake system. ( (Mind you.. I have No tune on it yet )) What would benefit my car the most Before I finally do take it in for a Pro tune. ((I have a 10k Budget to work with "ALL IN"..)) Should I, ...Cam and and Intake ? or Pro Charger ? or Turbo ? I want something "with cost in mind", that will yield the best results.. "Like I said, Im not looking to compete, I just want to put a grin on , when I stomp on the Gas.." I've had VERY..conflicting advice from friends..I know YOU have been there and Done it all on your journey.. " WHAT DO YOU THINK ? " Thank you in advance !
With a $10k budget and what I think you are asking, I would go for a Whipple supercharger and call it a day. Yes, you will be a bit limited with the stock cam but for a daily driver and you want to use and feel the power immediately, get the Whipple and a tune. ProCharger and Turbos are a great option as well but I see them more for the track than a daily driver as their power comes in at the higher RPM range where a Whipple's power is there immediately. Feel free to hit me up on Instagram if you have an account. I am on it all the time. 😉
This video was quite a while ago and a lot of updates since then. 😉 For the most part, that's the E85 cause it's cold but you could be correct, it could've been something else.
When I was a kid I thought you had to be rich to do anything like this, obviously it’s still a lot of money really anybody can do this if you are determined to, and if you can do the work yourself then you have it made. I am getting ready to build my 08 300c 5.7 Hemi and I ain’t gonna skimp and no I won’t be doing it myself dammit.
It does take a lot of money but is definitely doable with some determination, goals, and perseverance. If you can even do some of the work yourself, you'll save a metric butt ton of money. Labor is always more expensive than parts. As I've gone along this journey, I've learned a lot and starting to do a lot of maintenance and some installs myself but leave the really technical stuff to the pros. 😉
I'm going to put a supercharger on my challenger 5.7 2012, I'm going with e85, which diablo sport version do you recommend I buy? Thanks for the videos! excellent.
Well, if you 've been with the channel or watch some of the past videos, I've pushed around 20lbs of boost through mine for over a year and ran several 9's before forging the internals. 😉
I change my oil every 3k if not a little less when racing every weekend and change the ProCharger oil every time I change the oil. Yeah, I'll do a quick video on the maintenance on the ProCharger. 😉
@ModernRedHemi Throwing another question your way when you were first procharged with the 6.4 intake on your 5.7 when did you set your short runner valve to open 4800 like stock or did you play with it?
Procharger is a relatively easy do it yourself install / done in a weekend / with ability to drive as if it was stock or like a beast at WOT. Great option for many DIY’s.
An advantage with a Procharger it has a rising boost curve which means boost is proportional to RPM. That makes boost easier on the rest of the drive train. The transmission is pretty much at its limit with moderate boost. The Procharger kit is also slightly less expensive than kits such as the Edelbrock E-Force kit.
Well the Whipple 3.0 was recently released, so you will start to see more and more doing it. It is a very easy install, and you never have to worry about a clamp coming loose and loosing boost. It gives it a super clean look and instapower! My 5.7 has a stage 3 Cam, E85 with only 7lbs of boost for now and I'm right at 700hp to the wheels.
With that ProCharger, I suggest 1200's at a minimum and 1400's to be safe depending on the full mod list. If you send me the full mod list on IG or hit up Widebody Mopar Mike, he can give you a much better answer as he has the F1a-94 on his Scat. 😉
I got a 2013 Charger R/T 5.7L any recommendations to what I need to start? Haven’t done much just rear muffler delete and added Flowmasters (Edit) Anyone can answer?
Depends on your budget and goal for the car. You can start with boost, if you are going that route first and then the supporting mods (long tube headers, cam, intake manifold, etc.) or start with the bolt ons (get those that support boost if you are going that route) and then boost. 😉
Hey brother just got my 5.7 300 2006 a cam lo bc tubes eagle heads and intake and tune gave me 440 hp I wanan upgrade still but do you think I gotta go with piston , rod upgrade or am i good? My guy is telling me I gotta forge my internals please Lemme no.
Just so you know, there are no 100% guarantees here and I am taking no responsibility for what you do with your engine. I don't recommend this as I don't want you coming back to me because your engine blew up, but I pushed well over 750 to the wheels on my stock rods, pistons, and crank. There have been several 5.7s do it. Forging is definitely an insurance but go with your gut because not all engines are built the same and can handle the same power. 😉
Thanks Don, I’m just flipping back and forth between pro charger and 3.0 Whipple.. I did a stage 3 N/A up grade and tune @ at National Speed in VA,and it’s spot on @520 RWH… Can I install the pro charger kit and then drive it to the tuner shop as long as keep it out of boost.. just one of my concerns.. thanks… I’m using HP software.. Pat 😎
You're welcome brother! You should be ok driving it there as long as you stay out of boost and take it easy. I would try and get a start up tune from your tuner if at all possible, this way it will minimize any issues driving it there. 💪
I've got a 2013 challenger rt with Texas speed and performance stage 3 cam shorty BBK headers holley sniper intake cam phaser lock. I am wondering what kind of rwhp I can expect to see.
The cost of the service would vary from shop to shop and depend on their labor rates. However, typically it would be around $2,000 to $3,000. Hope that helps! 😉
They do at idle. Mine is a little less pronounced because I have the helical gears which quiets it down some but you can still hear it. It's completely normal for a ProCharger. 😉
Here's my thing on brakes. If you know the capabilities of your car, in which you should if you are adding boost, then you know how to drive to be safe. I've been on stock brakes the entire time and have been 100% fine. You just have to know your car. Trans doesn't need upgraded/replaced until you hit the 600+lb/ft of torque. You're not gonna get that with a ProCharger alone. Technically you don't have to get a new differential but the 3.09 LSD is highly recommended. 😉
Do you need to run the E 85 fuel pump and injectors if you are running C16 race gas? Or can you just get away with running the pump gas injectors and fuel pump?
For race gas, you don't need as much pump and injector as you need for E85. Best thing to do is log a run and see where your injector duty cycle is along with your fuel pressure to make sure you're getting enough fuel and the pressure is fine along with the duty cycle. Your tuner should be able to help you with it. 😉
One thing I didn't discuss is actually purchasing the tuning hardware (normally Diablo or HP Tuners) and the cost of a custom tune. Either route and a custom tune, on average, is about another $1000+ depending on the tuner's cost.
Everyone forgets about fueling hahaha! Great video man, gives many people breaking into forced air realistic expectations.
They sure do! That's all I wanted to do. Give real expectations. 😉
The best mopar channels that talk about the other trims that not hellcat and up or scat all the time
What about the internal pistons and rods because we all know 392 Motors cannot handle boost
so whats a real expectation on a stock 392 with a procharger is it the 200 to 215 like they say
@@chrispowe5608depends on what year the 392 is. Pre-BGE blocks are best NA. With BGE and ring gap, fuel, and a good tune you should make decent power.

$10k is actually pretty good for all that, and yes, maybe even a tad more. 😉
Supercharging ain’t cheap, but I will admit that it’s way easier than doing an n/a build, and gains are better too
Definitely not cheap, that's for sure! 💪

100% correct. There is some other additional costs, if you haven't already have the car unlocked and tuned. 💪
U also save some money as far as transmission wise also😂 which is another couple grand going towards another upgrade 😂
Coming from Procharger: you would only need the procharger, and the diablo tune with a PCM. This is for a stock Dodge Charger 2022 5.7 R/T
This is true. You can get by with the stock pump and injectors but this is just to be safe when it comes to fueling. 😉
