As of 2022 this method no longer works, Hudls unfortunately are totally bricks now unless you are willing to flash a brand new operating system... Which gets rid of the cute little startup jingle 😧
Can you actually use this method to get the HUDL software working again? (I've got a HUDL 2 that was donated to our community project. It's been reset, and can't be restored. Your video is the closest we've got to getting it working again. Even just getting into the settings menu would be helpful as it would allow me to turn on developer setting etc to allow a new ROM to be flashed). Basically...did you manage to get your HUDL working again?
Hi Laurence. This is just a work around to browse the web, please see the full description for the video above. The speculation was that Tesco had turned off their update servers, the hope was they'd put something back online for the tablet to connect to and update. I don't have the tablet anymore, so can't validate this. It sounds like from the media they didn't do this, but did offer some help to customers - unclear how, but see this article - www.trustedreviews.com/news/tesco-will-fix-bricked-hudls-3683611 Good luck.

I managed to get into the settings menu (via a different workaround), and can therefore turn on developer options...which opens up the possibility of installing a custom ROM Probably not worth the effort...but I really loathe electrical waste - especially when the rest of the device is working fine.

@@MergeDroid turns out they only fixed it temporarily, the issue started again in 2020 when the server secuirity certificate expired, when you first connect to wifi the tablet updates its date and time but this causes the tablet to refuse the authentication handshake from the server. you can follow the same tutorial but instead of going to the play store when the search window opens type settings. this allows you to get into the tablets settings menu so that you can turn off auto time and date and roll back the date to before 2020. Now the tablet will accept the security handshake and allow you to complete setup.

The hudl and hudl 2 use differnt icon to open the keyboard menu, hudl 1 is the microphone icon, hudl2 is the ' key
