Struggling to get the adb drivers so that i can extract the lollipop update that has been downloaded on one of the cracked ones (don't trust random oat rom backups found online) so that i can update the others or possibly use it to develop an android update.

I think they fixed the screen breaking issues in the later models. And most of the speed issues is due too slow storage.

The server was turned back on in 2019 after media backlash but they only renewed the security certificate for 1 year which is why you needed to change your date and time on device before it would complete setup, the server was turned back off again mid 2023
The out of date certificate on the activation server is no longer the issue, the server is OFF.
The address is not available for purchase either unfortunately, it may come up for sale eventually so someone can buy it and maybe do something to fix activation?

Thank you. I was hoping I'd be able to get it running faster but I think if I did, the screen would break with it getting much hotter than it does already. The camera is okay but when you compare it to newer tablets and some cheap phones these days, I was comparing it to those and guess their primary function isn't the camera. As long as you like it and you enjoyed the vids :D

@@MultiRetroMan Never broken a screen yet and not has my wife nor any of my grandchildren The heat comes from overcharging and stressing the CPU at the same time but it will just reboot. Heat does not crack the screen. Resetting them does NOT turn them into a 'brick' it simply means you have erased all but the factory software. You just need to reinstall and update which is still running perfectly normal. What you can't do on an unrooted machine is update the OS as the servers have been shut down and THAT IS ALL. They slow down due to filling them up with software and not migrating what you can to a micro SD card. Frankly filling them with games is a killer. Bear in mind they are intended to be used as a basic very portable option for the basic functions of your home computer such as email, social media etc but they run UA-cam with aplomb. If they slow down in use simply go into settings and clear the cache as that's what slows them. They are still a desirable and functional machine with a decent processor and 2gb of RAM. Where they slipped up was not making a 32gb ROM version as migrating much of the software to sd card is not possible and NONE of the fixed software can be migrated. They are still an excellent tablet and if rooted a superb tablet within it's storage limitations. you just have to use it correctly and not as a full blown replacement for a computer. My guide to buying is this; expect to pay between £30 and £45 for a (boxed if possible) tablet in full working order and complete with original charger and lead. ANY 2 amp charger will work well but the quality of the lead is all important. Do not skimp on lead quality. There are NO battery issues other than those of misuse i.e. constant charging and storing fully charged which is common to all Lithium batteries. You can still buy new batteries and the small charging circuit board. That board costs less than £4 and includes a new charging socket which is a brilliant design. No soldering required and only two screws. You won't get any Apple device so easy as that. The screens do not break through heat; you find anyone who accidentally breaks one for any reason will claim it broke 'all on its own' as they don't want to pay for it. It's as simple as that. My family have eight of these, (and that doesn't include the myriad of people I recommended them to) all reset by the way with no problems and only one broken screen amongst them; my grandson sat on it. Two batteries replaced as they simply gave up through long term use. The biggest issue is the micro usb charging socket which takes some stick but as described above a 10 year old child could replace it for less than £4 with no soldering whatsoever. If you don't want yours I'll give you what you THINK it's worth, £15 and I'll even pay the postage. LOL

Rob, the way to get any computer working efficiently is to not overbloat it with software. Make sure you have a micro sd card inserted then go through all the 3rd party software and move it to the sd card. Not all of it will as some of it is required to be on the base storage. Ask yourself do you really need some of the software and do you actually use it. If not then remove it. Try and keep at least 2gb free on your base storage and empty cache on a regular basis. Continuous use without rebooting is notorious for slowing them down as the cache gets pretty high. There is some good software about such as SD Maid Pro which is one of the VERY few that does what it claims but even then there is no substitute for a regular reboot and as much space clear storage as you can manage. The ONLY fault with these machines is they didn't do a 32gb or 64gb version. If they had made a 64gb then it would still be as good as anything on the current market, especially rooted to an updated Android OS.

Got loads of them and I still consider them one of the best. Rooting it is better as there are no new OS system updates. If you are buying one the last OS was android 5.1.1 If you find one still not updated and on android 4 then avoid it unless you are going to root it. They only slow down if you bloat them with software. Use it for what it was designed for such as social media, UA-cam, browsing and email. They are not designed to replace a computer. Your advice about not buying a reset one is total garbage, that is exactly how I buy them and had not a single issue. I have factory reset them dozens of times with no issues at all. I get the impression you don't have much experience with these as your advice is total BS. Batteries only fail through continuous overcharging but that is common to all these types of devices plus the continuous use of the charger is what causes the heat issues, NOT the processor. Never store a Lithium battery fully charged as that will destroy it. Do not charge it continuously as that will destroy it. This not peculiar to the Hudl but to all such devices. My advice to any prospective buyer is go ahead as long as it has Android 5.1.1 and don't overfill it with software and don't overcharge it. The camera is actually very good indeed. Taking pictures indoors without additional lighting and then wonders why it's grainy??? The vast majority of this guys advice is born of pure ignorance. If I could get one for £10 I'd snatch his hands off but equally I would snatch any hand off for £35 which is about the lowest they sell for in working condition with the charger and lead. Broken ones go for more than £10 for heavens sake, IT IS NOT DESIGNED TO BE A FULL BLOWN GAMES MACHINE OR REPLACE YOUR COMPUTER.

    • @MultiRetroMan
      @MultiRetroMan  3 роки тому +1

From what I had read from many people who reported buying one second hand, they couldn't get it working, and as not many people would know how to root it, then it's not a viable option to purchase one.
I am showing what it can do any yes, it will be grainy when taking shots without a lot of light, but do many people show it on their vidoes and if you want to buy one for it to take photos in low light, then you'll not buy it for one.
Did I ever say that it was designed to be a full blown games machine or replace a computer? No I did not, so why are you saying this?
I appreciate your comments and enjoy seeing that these things can be better if they're rooted but as you've not given any instructions on how to do it, then I stand by my video as I have warned people about buying them as they are, trying to log into it.

@@MultiRetroMan They can be activated just needs a few steps to change the date and time to so that it matches the outdated certificate on the tesco server.
when you connect to wifi the tablet updates to the current date and time automatically which then causes it to refuse to accept the handshake from the tesco server because their certificate is out of date.
They did update the cert when the bug first showed in 2019 but in 2020 it came back.
In my opinion if a server activation handshake bug is going to render the device inoperable there should be a class action lawsuit, it basically renders the device E waste.
At very least offer one last update which disables this activation behavior.

There are a few people online that have managed to get windows running by changing fastboot and operating system bios boot options, But the way the recovery/ bootloader is set up on them they only accept tesco signed android roms, which only go up to 5.1
Once on 5.1 rooting is impossible and the bootloader is further locked down from what i've read, if you have one still running kitkat and know how to build a compatible rom then spoof the tesco update/ota certificate you might be able to force a newer android version.
