    Notwithstanding all the other vodcast on this subject, it was helpful to see what comes inside of a Toyota OEM CV boot kit; thanks for the unboxing.

    Fantastic. There's a lot of helpful videos about removing the CV axle, and I needed this one to know how to replace the boots.

    Great info. Tripods are good to prevent motion sickness when watching though. Great little investment to improve watchability.

    Good straight to the point video, but definitely invest in a tripod for the camera.

    This will help out a lot. I have been stubbornly trying to cut the outer boot off with hack saw blades because its ripped, and was low of grease and making noise. I bought the whole boot kit because it was actually cheaper then a single outer one, but I am wondering how to slip or cut the boot to go over the outer bearings. Better to just take the whole thing out and check and replace both.

    Most of the Corolla joints I've done the outer cv is on there tight. Then I just take the inner off and slide the boot over from the inner side.
    Some Opel joints have a snap ring(circlip) holding the cv in place on the shaft.
    Great vid!

    • @pixel6878
      @pixel6878 2 роки тому

      Is the inner easier to take off the joint? I'm doing this on my 09 Tacoma and the shop is having a hard time getting the outer joint off, and no shops around me have a press to press it out.

    • @mullerandre95
      @mullerandre95 2 роки тому

      @@pixel6878 much easier, the outer joints tend to be stuck on so bad that you have to cut them up and break them apart to remove them. Just remove the snap ring on the inner cv slide ir off, remove the boots and put the new boots back on. Reassemble and refit should be about 30 mins per side.
      The Tacoma should have a snap ring on the cup sitting in the diff housing that you can pry out with a screwdriver to remove the shaft.
      It's an messy job so either wear gloves or be prepared to scrub your hands well afterwards.

      @@mullerandre95 on the 2009 Camry, the passenger side axle can also be taken apart at the inner boot? that way i don't have to pull the entire axle out of the transmission?

    • @mullerandre95
      @mullerandre95 Місяць тому

      Not too sure about the Camry, if it's a tripod, no problem. I guess it's a tripod unit, if you look at the cv boot are there 3 half moons visible on the gearbox side? If so it's a tripod and you just remove the boot clip and yank out the shaft from the cup.

    I don't know what model this CV joint came off of... but the OEM Toyota drivers side CV joint for my car cost about $600. I'm going to order one of these kits and rebuild it myself.

    I appreciate that I was changing my lower control arm and my CV axle slipped off and I didn't know if I put the CV axle back in wrong because I'm getting like a little knock now so I'm assuming I need to pull it out and reset it or do you have any idea

    Hi 👋 I’m curious, will the Toyota dealer sell these rebuild kits? If not, where would you recommend I get one & what brand? I have an 03 Corolla & always took care of it. It’s not making any noise but the Toyota mechanic said right away that I have to replace both axles! Which is expensive! I saw it on the lift. It was leaking some grease on the axle bar on both. The car has 150,000 miles. He said one of the axles is not made any more & advised to get an aftermarket one. Should I do this or try and repair it? Any advice is appreciated, thanks 🙏

    What holds the inner axel cv joint together?

    • @JohnMarshton777
      @JohnMarshton777 Рік тому

      Tension mainly. Plus the clamped boot technically. Once installed in the car, the bearings and the cup cannot separate because it's held in by the trans and the hub. At least to my understanding.

  • @arturohernandez2313
    @arturohernandez2313 Рік тому

    Considering the cost of new cv axles being relatively cheap for older Camrys it’s just better to remove and replace than to do all this since you are already having to remove the old cv axle do this anyways.

    • @brett9382
      @brett9382 Рік тому +1

      Toyota cv axles are significantly stronger than replacements. Not a big deal for camrys but a definite for toyotas 4x4s.

    • @JohnMarshton777
      @JohnMarshton777 Рік тому

      I'll appreciate this in my lowered corolla. Dirt roads aren't kind to the axle boots. But they have like. 20k miles on them. Bearings are probably just fine. Pluuuus I'm pulling the trans anyways soooo. Keeping costs down is key 😂

    • @wesraffa

      Most oem axles last 20-30 years longer than the junky replacements they sell. If the joint is in good shape definitely reuse it

      Little part ? That's the biggest part !! Looks like you couldn't slide the axle in that cup yourself, so you just skipped it, and showed it reassembled, or swapped it with different axle. Ridiculous !

    • @GEARMOAUTO
      @GEARMOAUTO  3 роки тому

      Aight aight, to put the two together fold in the 3 bearings on the axel and slide them into the tracks on the cup. It can be a little stubborn but they do go in. I edited past it to save time but that is basically how I did it.
