The Indonesian Teenagers Competing in Illegal Drag Races
Вставка

- Motorcycles rule the streets of Indonesia. By day, the bikes zip through Jakarta, ferrying residents to and from work-but by night, the roads give way to the underground world of illegal street racing. Kids as young as 12 compete in the high-speed sprints, where riders can make a small fortune off a single race. The rewards are great, but the risks are just as high: Flying down roads at breakneck speeds, one, small mistake can cost a “speed jockey” their life.
On this episode of ‘VICE INTL,’ VICE Indonesia went inside Jakarta’s dangerous, high-stakes street racing scene. We met up with a 16-year-old rising star to hear how he got involved, talked to the cops cracking down on illegal drag racing, and checked out a sprint ourselves-watching as two teenagers faced off for more cash than most Indonesians make in a month.

Well if street racing doesn't kill him i think lungcancer is a second good contender
That is more proof of the lies you believe, if you've ever been to Indonesia you know that almost every male smokes a lot, it's 1USD a pack, they also start at a young age, yet their rate of lung cancer is lower than Australia's and almost half of the USA's. You sheep just believe and eat anything.
Sheep? Wow, what is the lie? Smoking is bad?
+Dag TheWog - It's far better than alcohol and pharma-drugs, which can be equivalent to half a bottle of whisky on the liver.
Think about this, have you ever actually read a scientific paper? I guarantee you haven't read a thing on the ground-research they did on tobacco just before initiating a huge tax grab. You just blindly believe what you are told, hence a sheep. I only smoke small cigar's occasionally but it's how easy it is to fool the sheep majority that annoys me.
What country are you from? If you are from the U.S. then you know the "lies" as you claim they are, come from everywhere--not just the government, but anti-smoking groups, like M.A.C. (Moms Against Cigarettes). Since the majority of people here don't smoke, it's like they don't care. The people that do smoke won't fight for their cause. So, here, there are no sheep, because no one care's enough to fight it. The 2nd Amendment on the other hand, lots of sheep. Anti-gunners come from the government, special interest groups, and billionaires like Bloomberg, who spend money and setup people in other states to act as his disciples.
So bottom line, accuse people of being sheep where it counts. Also, speak like a normal person. Not like a wannabe genius, messiah, revolutionary. You probably turned off a lot of people with your wording. They just moved on to the next video.
cigs arent made out there like they are here in the states.

Going through the comments and seeing people bitching about flip flops, they seem to miss the point that the people there belong in a totally different socio economic status than what is happening in the western world. Theres no state sponsored welfare. So no money means no gear.
These people race using heavily modified stock 4 stroke 150cc underbone bikes and scooters. So power to weight ratio is everything. Thus the lack of gear... and the bikes remove all unnecessary weight. A drag is a drag, racers know how it is. Its about as less weight, in the lowest timing as fast as you can.
Perhaps you guys should go to Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines for these drag races. Imho more exposure is needed.

A lot of comments asked why the police buried the motorcycles and not scrap them.
The reason is, all these motorcycles used racing parts, and if scrapped, would find their way back to the market (through corruption and/or people bought them as second hand parts)
I think scraping by melting those components into usable metals will be a lot useful.

Thailand has a bunch of these SEA-style 2-stroke underbone drag bikes that do 10 sec range and 180-190km/h trap speed in quarter mile. and recently someone did an 1/4 mile ET of 9.4 in a Honda Sonic 125 (displacement increased to 350cc). Harusnya difasilitasi bukan dihakimi, dengan begini bisa saja kita bisa melahirkan pembalap-pembalap yg baik

Yes we are brothers
Setidaknya mereka meninggal di jalan yg lurus.

😂
kang pai that pun tho 😂
Bisa aja mereka mati ditikung ;)
Bagaimana kalau jalannya bergejolak :v
I have to give them props. They race with what they have. Those bikes have small displacements, so they fit them with skinny tires so they get faster acceleration. But still, drive safe kids.
they accidentally made a documentary about the worlds coolest 16 year old
Thank You!!
Me in thailand accindent is nomal for kid 12 yearold with120km/h
He drop out of school lol
Worlds cringiest
@@cockman316 You must be the new circus in town 🤡
The kid who chose professional race only are the smart one. Big sponsor like manufacturer brands avoid recruiting someone with illegal activities like the first one, despite having better skills. And they are the only way to be promoted to big league where lots of money came.
"I'm so scared right now. There's so many middle school kids running from us right now." Lol
Lmao this is the area where I live since 2013, and yes, I often hear loud motrcycle noises, mostly in the night.

Kinda weird to see places I see almost everyday on VICE btw lmao
"We buried them" lol.
Most of them are stripped part-by-part and sold.
yo dawg can i get these shipped to me ...like the engines ...ECU?
@@mauhammada5187 you can... if you know some "insider". Good connections and money are literally the only thing you need to get something a normal person can't get.
This kind of street racing is happening in Thailand , Malaysia, Indonesian and Philippines
this guy took 2 different side quests
Of two opposing faction
Man these things look like death traps, they got heart for riding.
im indonesian, and this is true.
also Race can happen at suddenly when you meet silly people on the street then end up with taunting or even fighting
Greeting to indonesia from Greece !!!!
Thank brother
Drag racing 125-150cc motorcycles are very popular here in SEA especially in Thailand and Philippines
Indonesia so popular
In that country there isn't no "American dream" everyone has a chance to have a good life (which isn't even true in America) there you got a handful of ways to get paid fast. Racing or building is the easiest and safest
14:46 The mirrors and lights were removed to improve aerodynamics and the plates were removed to make the rider less identifiable.
Nice comment, 👍
For the lights, its removed because of weight reduction. Im a jockey btw
@@leadxr weheheew
Anything for weight reduction
no wonder there so many motorcycles here, goodness sake the places their going are quite close to where I live
You didn't go back to talk to him, failed ending
Darth Tesla kid didn't want to talk. It was better not to push him
This surfaced in the Philippines but the authorities were quick to act and the consequence after getting caught is blacklisting of driver's license 18 and above. It means the person is not allowed to drive any type of vehicle permanently if he doesn't pay the bail on time. For 18 and below, it will lead to the parent being put to bail for allowing their child/children to ride without a student license. If the person has student license but gets caught, his motorcycle will just be impounded.
Huh salamat sa info brad
Vice: part of the racers & live among them at the beginning.
also Vice: Team up with cop to bust them all..
😑😑

How it feels when you play Mariokart with your sibling
Omg this is from my neighborhood. A cousin of mine is also involved in street racing, he gives my grandmother a lot of headaches.
Fiona Aurellie did you happen to live in bintaro or bsd?
Haidi Zhafari yea!
Fiona Aurellie alright then neighbor cheers from bintaro sector 5 :D

i expected some arrogant ''tough guys'' but this is actually pretty cool.
Make a hobby, take safety, get money.!
But safety first.
A friend of mine was a jockey for this motorcycle drag racing, he crashed so bad, his skull was cracked open, he survived tho but he lost half of his brain and it took 3 years of recovery.
I've seen one of the street race when I was going home at night on my bike, I was wondering why's there traffic, turns out they're blocking the streets
So since I can't do anything, I just watch till one of em won

The leg style we called it " superman" in Malaysia..dangerous but kind of helps in aerodynamic.Sorry to say,if it's in Malaysia, you can't jump in filming the illegal race without blurring the faces nor the police will interrupt,.they have too many eyes and ears..And if they got your faces in camera, and the whole flock will end up in jail...But even so,they'll keep on racing afterward..🤗🤗🤗
We also call that superman here.
The right word..👍🏽👍🏽😂😂
*f l y*
Shut up, you malaysian always try to copy everything from indonesia and then claim its yours. Drag races in malaysia is not popular, the world doesn't know. You got those "superman" word from indonesia. You claim batik, kalimantan, you claim like anything.
@@leadxr Lol, jangan lupa claim jerebu asap haha
Any man who can drag race in slippers is already a g in my eyes
i mean indonesia is really hot so flip flops are the best
Well as indonesian im really hate this kind of thing especially when you have insomnia and trying to sleep peacefully
Iye anjir,kenalpotnya tuh loh 😔
I know your pain. I hate it when they use that racing bikes for transportation. especially at late night.
That a different stuff.
Some people just instal a racing exhaust on their bike for no absolute reason and start Speeding up on neighborhood.
Some people are a true street racer only start speeding up at straight.
That's what I learn from my dad. He's an ex street racer in 1990
No matter the place or form of race, people everywhere want to go fast and want to do it competitively. I just wish that more types of official and regulated races were open to more people so kids that just wanna have fun dont hurt themselves or others or land themselves in jail even if theyre okay
He’s reaction when he seen there feet fly priceless 🤣🤣🤣
bro 😂😂😂
P
it's called a superman position for max aerodynamics
