I agree with you that "our love" is criminally underrated, and "when everything went wrong" isn't that great on its own (but it serves its purpose during the fight scene).
Alex ‘Mako’ Seaver posted more in depth footage/discussion about composing “What Could’ve Been” & “Guns for Hire”. You’re sure to enjoy it. I agree that the entire album is banger after banger. Ray Chen’s violin is breathtaking. “Welcome to the Playground” is grimy & sexy. The opening riff to “When Everything Went Wrong” (the country tune) has an almost comedic wink-&-a-nod from the composers as they break into a full on barroom brawl anthem. I’m a vocalist that’s been belting “Guns For Hire” alone in my car over the last 3 years, …now finally inspired to sit down at the piano and learn how to accompany myself. Arcane is an inspirational & gorgeous tragedy…truly an impossible masterpiece. They nailed EVERY angle of production. Bravo Fortiche. Bravo Riot Games. ✨
Oh! PVRIS also did a song for Arcane called "Oil and Water", which went unused in the final show. She released it separately later as its own track and it's real cool to listen to. She also did the Worlds 2021 song "Burn it down", which has a cool animated MV I'd recommend.
Sting and Ray Chen on "What Could Have Been" is the definition of peak. To this day I still can not believe they managed to pull that kind of talent for a friggin' animated videogame adaptation. By the way, if you haven't seen it already, I highly recommend watching Get Jinxed and Here Comes Vi (the latter is just an intro screen animation but it will give you an idea of the vibe they had for Vi pre-PVRIS, plus I've had a sneaking suspicion for a month or two now that the song will be in Season 2.)
@@BlackShardStudio it got clipped in my editing, but on my ep 9 reaction I mentioned “AND they got Sting for the finale???” they did not hold back on anything with this show!! Just wow.

@@No1fan15 I wonder what they are doing at the 2nd of November at the O2 Arena in London, when Arcane season 2 starts and the Worlds Finals take place. It will be exciting.
That Bea Miller clip you saw with Zaun behind her is from Worlds 2021 show opening. You should definitely react to it. It was released a day before Arcane was aired so they went all out. It was like the last big marketing before we got a taste of what that got in store for us
An Arcane theme park you say? "Arcane: Enter the Undercity" - was an experience by "Secret Cinema" back in 2021, it looked amazing. They previously collaborated with RIOT for an invite-only immersive release event called "Undercity Nights" and I think this is what they did for a month afterwards in the same space.
Christian wrote, directed or sang in A LOT of League Of Legends songs including most of Pentakill, Get jinxed as you saw, and a good amount of champion theme songs. I'm not sure if you plan to react to Riot's songs but Christian sings the entire song of Curse of the Sad Mummy, a music video they did for Amumu a champion. Its beautiful I highly reccomend it to hear this mans amazing voice.
That metal song that was playing when they were talking about Christian's music background was Lightbringer, by Pentakill. Pentakill is League's metal band where they took some of the League champions and made them into a metal band so they could sell some skins for them. But they also have made 3 legit full metal albums 'on the side' which you can check out on Riot's youtube channels. The third album, Lost Chapter, even had a 'virtual concert' they did for its release back during the pandemic lockdowns. Christian was heavily involved in the production of the Pentakill music, given his background in metal. Christian also sings on a music video called Curse of the Sad Mummy which is about one of the League Champions, Ammumu, The Sad Mummy. Finally, that 'music video' you saw for Welcome to the Playground with Bea Miller on a 'set' was part of the Worlds 2021 Opening Ceremony, which was entirely Arcane themed. "Worlds" is League's big international tournament they hold at the end of the year where the best professional League teams from around the world come to compete for the Worlds Trophy. Worlds 2021 actually took place before Arcane was released - literally the first 3 episodes of Arcane released on Netflix that day after the Worlds 2021 final was played, so the Worlds 2021 Opening Ceremony was basically a big sneak peak/hype for both the Worlds 2021 final as well as the new League of Legends show releasing later that day. Given that Arcane S2 is releasing this year right after Worlds 2024 (being held in London this year), I will expect the Worlds 2024 Opening Ceremony to have lots of Arcane content in it.
That "live set" of the under city was from the worlds opening ceremony. They're definitely worth a watch if you have time to see them. Worlds is the largest esports event in the world
I can't wait to hear what music s2 brings since the outside artists were brought in earlier. The collabs in s1 were all fantastic, i love them all, but I'm still hyped to hear tracks where the artists were more involved during production.
I think my top three songs are the same as yours, also in different orders depending on the day. I think "Our Love" gets overlooked because, on the surface, it's tone doesn't match what we're seeing. I think this is actually intentional - instead of reinforcing the doors being kicked in and the anxiety of the scene(s), it's trying to highlight Vi's motivation for what she's doing - love, not anger or resentment. She listened to Vander on the bridge, and she chose a different path. "What Could Have Been" fits the final scene perfectly for me, lyrically as well as compositionally (and yes, the violin solo). Because they had to fit it to screen, it has an unusual structure, which I also like. In this episode we see Christian talking on his phone about involving the musicians earlier so that visuals could be set to the music - although this might be easier for the musicians, I'm not sure I agree - I like the semi experimental nature of having to fit it to screen - they are likely to think of things they never would otherwise, and servicing the storytelling is what's most important to me.
If you want to listen to one of Christian's songs that he did for League of Legends, check out "Curse of the sad Mummy". He wrote, performed and sang the song, and still one i keep going back to, because it just fits so well with the visual storytelling of character introduction. He's written many of the earlier songs, but i think that's the only one he sang on.
From the behind the scenes stuff, my undestanding of it is that Chistian started in Support, but because he suggested music videos and later a music department within Riot it was how he rose within the company. It's then also probably helped that he joined the company in its early days and had a connection with the 2 founders as a result, so when they greenlit his projects it probably carried a lot of weight in the company. Then when his projects gained steam, such as Riot's music videos being very popular, they became more likely to take his ideas seriously. Though as Christian said himself, it was not solely a blind trust, when he initally wanted to start the project, it was something he had to ease them into accepting by preparing the ground work first (such as character designs, environment, animation tests and so on). Only other thing is that while he was probably influencial on how the characters were written, I think it's probably more likely that it was Alex (and later Melinda) that were the main figures in that area of the project.

The biggest problem with Our Love in terms of ranking is that it exists in the Arcane sound track. Dynasties and Dystopia and Misfit Toys are just a mood. Goodbye and What Could Have Been have just such strong emotional pull and nostalgia for the scenes they are in. And Guns for Hire is a wonderful, haunting melody that Woodkid absolutely killed and it got placed over an amazing scene. The least favourite song from Fantastic Negrito fits with its Western style very good to a bar fight imho. He said in a video on his UA-cam channel, that this song was number one a dozen of weeks in the American Blues charts. Btw bar fights are an essential ingredient of martial arts movies (aka Easterns) that Vi's and Sevikas fight reminds me of. And as you probably know the mother of Riot Games is Tencent, one of the biggest tech and entertainment companies of China. Full Arcane is very popular and a big thing in East Asia. And I read recently that Riot Games China announced in 2025 the premiere of an "immersive live experience" of Piltover and Zaun with the main characters.
@@artxroyalty I'm totally with you😏. „Our Love“ is also my most favourite and the one from Fantastic Negrito the least one. I just thought it was remarkable that the song stayed so high in the charts for so long (perhaps it was also due to the fact that Fantastic Negrito is so good and well-known that he has already won three Grammys). But for me that is just an indication that the whole Arcane album was very popular.

I’m a little bias because I’m not a huge country lover, but I didn’t hate the song and I agree it was fitting for that scene
