  • Finally, a Mustang with the steering wheel on the right and decent suspension. Rear wheel drive 5.0L V8 with over 400 BHP...what could possibly go wrong ?!
    I put this proper Muscle Car through it's paces on wet and very slippy British roads. Huge fun but this car demands respect !
    A huge thank to Hendy Ford Portsmouth for letting me play with their new demonstrator. Give them a call to arrange a test drive. You won't regret it !

    Fun video. As a kid in England after watching Steve McQueen in Bullet I wanted Mustang. I bought my new 2017 in Calgary from Metro Ford, Jag the sales guy was brilliant...! The car is a GT Premium manual 5-litre and it is drop dead gorgeous and worth very dollar.

    Fantastic job again! Sounds fantastic and your enthusiasm and passion comes across loud and clear! I rarely comment on videos but I think this is the second of yours that makes me think "truly brilliant" I hope those that make motoring shows around the world are taking note because this is how motoring should be put across. Very honest review too - not all gloss and loads of focus on how you feel about it.

    Petrol Red, I live in the states in the midwest Kansas to be exact, and I own a mustang GT 5.0 it's a 2015 gunmetal gray and I love it!!!! It has a nice roar when turning it on to drive. If you are apprehensive about the Mustang don't be. I drive mine in town and it does great!!! It handles the corners just awesome and the stearing is just very smooth very balanced. A volvo is boring. I have a back up assist and I love the rearview mirrors that have your blind spot mirrors. Those take time to get used to. I drive my safely and I drive in the rain. I have had one or two of those and yes it's not for beginners!!!! I owned a motorcycle before getting a mustang!!! Respect the car and it's limitations and it will take care of you!!! You are right about that it's a mustang GT 5.0 what do you expect for that kind of car!!!

    Only just seen this vid Ped, I don’t like the dodgy traction issues. Ive got a 08 Lexus ISF and even in the wet in sport, TC on its very manageable and you can deploy most of the 417 bhp power. You never feel it will bite you, also I recently did a trip to the States and had a 2017 Camaro SS, 6.2 V8 and it was similar to how the Mustang was behaving. I like tail end fun like all petrol heads but not to the level you think it’s going to land you in trouble. Great vid mate, as always 👍🏻

    Brilliant review! I had a 2011 Premium GT - loved it. One of the great Mustangs of all time. It had the 6 speed manual - I think manual gear boxes are always better for the Mustang GT. Currently have the 2016 Jaguar F Type S with the 8 speed ZF automatic gear box - your review of that car was also fantastic. Now in love with the Aston Martin DB11 (I've ordered but it won't be here until late May) - so I'd love to see you do a review of that. Keep up the awesome reviews!

    Great review Ped! Subscribed! I just saw your review for the RS and this beauty. I've always dreamt of having a V8 mustang, and I finally got a premium manual GT!, and as much as I hate to admit it, I think it's a handful for a daily driver, especially when it's greasy. Although the suspension set up and seats make it really comfortable. So, I'm really giving a thought to trading the GT for an RS, which one would you have for a dd? Oh, and BTW, you should try a manual, that really gives you the giggles.

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  7 років тому

      Hi Fernando. I'm sure this car would be miles better with a manual as the auto box wasn't very good. As a daily I'd have the Focus RS every day of the week :-)

    Another home run! Or whatever the British cricket equivalent might be lol... it is exhilarating to gain a qualified British car tester's perspective on an American muscle car. I would think that in europe at large, this would go over well. It is so contrary to the wimplified tiny smart car crap so many there are forced to drive, that it -- I would have to fathom-- would be seen as a completely refreshing option. I truly hope American muscle metal gains popularity in the U.K. -"as an aside, I drove the v-6 mustang snd loved it,Comfortable, fast, great handling, and 27-31mpg.

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  7 років тому

      There is quite a large following for American Muscle in the UK. Until recently though we have had to import them and then live with lefthand drive. We are pretty good at getting huge power from little engines, important when our gas costs about 4 times what yours does :-) I could live with a V6 Mustang but over here it's a 4 cylinder turbo. Don't get me wrong, the EcoBoost is a great engine that is the same as the Focus RS, but a Stang needs a vee !!

  • @anthonyswan2928

    Great video, Thought I'd prefer the Mustang to the RS but to be honest after the video it would be the RS!
    Mustang looks and sounds superb, just get the impression it's going to spend all its ownership trying to kill you! Even just tottering around it looks like you could very easily come unstuck.
    It really is the complete opposite to the RS.

    Love your review. I have the 2019 10 speed automatic and that has an extra 45 horsepower (460). It drives so much better than the first S550’s and the automatic is so much better now. There is a way of locking into SPORT not SPORT + and then change the driving mode to TRACK and it shifts with the paddles just like a DCT and only a slight delay. Next week it goes in for the fitting of a ROUSH 2650 TVS supercharger Stage 2 putting out 750 Horsepower. Automatic transmission cooler, larger oil cooler and bracing at the back and also a brace under the k -member looking after the front. Come over and have a drive!!!

    Excellent review as always Peter. Having spent most of my adult life shoehorning American V8's into sit up & beg Fords I have to say in a straight line there is no substitute for cubic inches. But having also driven the "donor" vehicles, they don't handle the twisty bits anywhere near as well as European cars. So, in summation I think there's always going to be a market for them, but I also believe that they change owners pretty quickly because they're not really compatible with British roads, & the cost of fuel compared to US will soon burn big holes in the wallet.
    Not for me I'm afraid 😳 .

  • @SPQRTempus
    @SPQRTempus 5 років тому +1

    I had the opportunity to put about 1000 miles on the 2018 Mustang in Australia. I agree with what you say about the gearbox, a lot of the throttle response gets wasted by the gearbox trying to make up its mind which gear it wants, the flappy paddles are no help either. The character of the car would be much better suited to a 5 speed auto. I also unreservedly agree about the power not being accessible on the open road without seriously jeopardizing your life or your license. You really need a track to truly find it's limits. What I did like was that under light throttle into dry B road tight corners you can feel the suspension load up and the massive tyres keep you pointing in the right direction without too much fuss or bother - just keep the right foot out of the equation and it's quite predictable, almost reassuring. As far as fuel economy goes, it wasn't too bad on a long drive with the cylinder cut technology I was getting about 21mpg US (which is 25mpg in Imperial) which pleasantly surprised me. A Mustang is not really a car I'd own, I'm more of a hot hatch guy but I am glad I drove one. Having said that, if Ford bottled up the noise and sold it I'd buy it! More intoxicating than beer.

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  5 років тому +1

      It sure makes a good noise but the new Mustang sounds even better and with a manual transmission many of these issue disappear. The new auto box is meant to be very good too :-)

    Good review of the Mustang 5.0. I have a Convertible Premium Auto on order delivery for around Aug/Sept 2017 But now I have a dilemma!! as to wether I push back my order for the 2018 model.I here you say that Ford are going to put lane assist along with anti collision etc on the cars to make them safer but is this for the new style 2018 or to start on the tail end run of the current models? as end of runs on cars can come packed full of goodies /Limited editions to help sell them on any Idea?

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  7 років тому

      Still learning about my new camera. I have a challenge with it ! To shoot in 1080p it will only do 25 fps and that is giving me jutter. I'm trying to minimise this by slow panning shots and slow-mo effects in the edit. The really jerky bit in this film is because I zoomed out badly !! I can shoot at 50 fps but although the camera calls in HD, it is 720. iMovie will render to the lowest quality clip. So if I put 50 fps panning clips in the whole film would publish in 720. I might try with my next shoot to see if it makes much of a difference.
      My fault for not buying the next model up, but it was another £300 !!

    I'm curious how does the traction control work when accelerating like a madman? I would think the computers are estimating all parameters to keep the car from spinning off the road. Does it cut the accelerator and break individual wheels to prevent losing control? If so I'd like to see someone really push this thing to its outer limits.

    Not for me. I need a car that handles and with some degree of predictable handling and with a manual gearbox that's in the gear I need it to be in. Straight line speed doesn't interest me if that's all it can do and I think this is a classic case that illustrates that BHP isn't everything. I'm not even sure I like the sound of it that much. Hendy Ford get a thumbs up though

      With a good driver it can compete with an m3 in a track as long as you have the track pack. It isn't bad at all. In my area it's all highway not so much twisty so and even the twisty you can still throw the mustang in the corners just need to be good at the limit the car go as far as cornering and majority of drivers can't really push their cars to the limit anyways

    The US model has more power and sequential turning signals. Also, IRS on a Mustang is nothing new, Cobras have had IRS since forever.

    I'm afraid i'm another non-fan of this car Peter, even though it is good value for money give me the Focus RS any day as i'd rather have a car that handles as well as great speed off the line and all the practicality that goes with the Focus RS. Mean looking and sounding beast though and as always a great video. Thanks.

    That's not a big car in the US. If you want a bigger muscle car with plenty of back seat room, get a Dodge Challenger or Charger.

    Why drive a rwd 5.0 in terrible road conditions. All that hard to control stuff is bs. I've owned 8 mustangs over the past 20 years, and I've had no problem controlling them at all. The idiots u see running into crowds just can't drive

    I’d much rather have the BMW M4 or the Audi RS4 over this car any day. They are smaller, with better mpg values and handle better than the mustang

    Why Lord why does my stupid country have to have ridiculous taxes that make this as expensive as a new BMW M4 whereas ze germans can have it for the same price as a BMW 420....

    Very over egged and inaccurate review. You should have at least read the manual beforehand.
