I brought a young Thai constellation from FL (🥵) to CT in January (🥶) and it was struggling. It lost all its leaves except one. I repotted in tree fern fiber and within a week watched (clear pot) the thing root like crazy!! It’s too expensive to use on everything but it’s now my go to media for all of my orchid seedlings or anything that’s having trouble.

Do you feel like you water less or more than when you had plants in other mediums?

There was a brand that was less powdery and was more like little sticks. That one was great. The one that's more ground acts like coco coir.

I'd like to know what you think the difference is from tree fern fiber and coco fiber? Have you used just coco for your plants ? Thanks, late on the comment hopefully you see this.

I’ve been thinking of trying tree fern fiber. This may tip me over the edge.

Hi thanks for this. I'm just about to transplant my same Alocasia. A question please.. Do you still use your same feed as you do with soil? I have a "recipe" I use and just wondered if you have changed yours at all for this fiber? Thanks so much! Great information as always. :)

I fertilize my Alocasia in tree fern fibre the same as plants in soil mixes and there have been no issues.
Of course everyone uses different things (water type, nutrients etc) so if you are uncertain, I would suggest to try it out on an inexpensive plant first. Experiments are the least stressful on doubles and/or inexpensive plants 😉

I use it on my calatheas and other plants that like to stay moist

If you didn't know, tree ferns actually grow their trunks by producing a mass of aerial roots.
So basically, tree fern fiber is actually shredded tree fern aerial roots, which is why beneficial bacteria and fungi tend to thrive in it.

I started using it just recently and repotted all of my alocasias and anthuriums in it. I don’t have an opinion yet it’s to soon, but I’m excited I made the switch now! 🎉

I have bird paradise, I just bought it, it is big, it would be a good idea to remove some of the substrate it has and mix it with the tree fiber, please let me know

It’s amazing how easy it is to grow even the most temperamental plants using tree fern fiber. Root rot? What’s that? It’s too expensive, but hey the Kiwis need the business

Thank you for your indepth on this substrate. I have it in the house and knew if I looked at your site you may have good information. Again thank you!! One question..
I make a feed for my plants containing silica, fertilizer and Tribus and also PH my water..
It's very important to me to know if I need to continue doing this using this product or if I need to change this? I don't want to OD my collection. Thanks!! You grow girl!! ❤

I know a lot of people that mix tree fern fiber with their potting soil mix. Probably 50/50.

    • @Wubblyt
      @Wubblyt 2 місяці тому

Mixing tree fern with soil is only worth it if you underwater to the extent that your medium goes hydrophobic. Tree fern will help rehydrating the soil then..
Otherwise the soil clogs up the air pockets of the tree fern fibre, one of its best properties.
Mixing it with things like bark, perlite, cocochips (chunky things like that) keeps the air pockets.

@@Wubblyt I knew that. I wasn’t asking a question. And the people are UA-camrs that I watch. They know what they are doing and what their plants need.
