Sorry, I can't help with the trans mount side of things. For the socket issue, I'd put the socket in a drill press and drill the square centre secion out to the same size as the tail end of the output shaft. Cheaper to replace a drill bit than to try find a deep 36mm 12 point socket that you'll only ever need to use twice for this job. Only other tip will be, when you go to undo the nuts holding the output flange, make life easier on yourself, as they will have to be replaced anyway, When they are fitted, they are torqued up, then a chisel is used to bend part of the flange of the nut into the flat grooves on the output shaft so they won't come undone due to vibration. If you take a pointed pin punch and drive the point betweel the flats of that groove and the deformed flange of the nut, this will bend the flange of the nut out of the groove, making it so much easier to undo.
I was wondering if the flex-disc used on the N57 8HP is the same size as the E90/92 M3 DCT flex-disc. Comparing the distances between the bolt holes on the transmission end of the E92 335i 6HP21 driveshaft to the E90/92 M3 DCT driveshaft, the measurements are 90mm for the 6HP21 and 95mm for the DCT.
ANDREW the zf6hp26 from a falcon the guibo holes are 95mm apart and the rear aluminium mount is 125mm across the top rear bolts the trans mount holes are 145mm across and the height from top bolt hole to bottom of mount is165mm hope this helps dimensions from my transmission for my e90 barra build note it is not in car yet cheers glenn
Pressing my thumbs, was about to tell you again (like i mentioned in the email) about the 6hp output flange right before you mentioned you wanted to try it😅 I just hadn't looked the video to that point then...BTW from what I read only, sometimes the output becomes loose on the 8hp and needs to be rebolted...so probably takle that with locktight on the nut when you install the flange 😅
I remember you mentioning the 8hp45 output flange, but not the 8hp70. Sorry I missed that. Lamik was saying some are the same and these looked so close when I checked last week. Ahhh well.
@@ZeroTo60Tube yes but actually I meant this time more like using a 6hp flange on a 8hp...for sure back then I didn't really knew about all the 8hp70 flanges but I'm pressing my thumbs and simply can't await your first ride😅
so it goes with non oe trans swaps. ran in to similar issues with my 6 speed manual from an e46 swap in to my e36. unrelated to bmw my most straight forward plug and play trans swap was a zf-5 speed manual from an 80's/90's f series ford pickup truck in to my 1997 ford explorer with a 5.0 v8. trans bolted right up, used same trans support bracket, a ranger clutch pedal assembly worked just fine, only thing was i had to do a custom driveshaft which is well documented and straight forward to make anything happen thanks to the internet (at least u joint wise) not so much guibo wise lol
Off topic but can I ask where you sourced the b drum bearing for the ZF5HP24? I have ordered a full rebuild kit of clutch packs and seals 🦭 They finally arrived yesterday after waiting nearly 2 months due to the local floods. I’m not happy about the amount of time the transmission has been out but alas… The only place I have found one of these bearings is in the states at a cost of $144 including delivery. I paid $800 for all the seals and clutch packs.
I would have to look back through my records to be sure. But from memory i found who the genuine ZF parts supplier is and called them direct. I did have part numbers ready but they came direct from whoever is the official ZF importer. Try these contact details. aftermarket.zf.com/au/aftermarket-portal/contact-us/
Hey brother man, off the beat question, I’ve been following your channel since you’ve gotten imola red 4.6is. My gear box since I have bought mine, would shift hard into first gear when I’m decelerating into a stop. I scanned and it showed EGS converter lockup clutch, Excessive Slip fault. Other than that it shifts very smoothly in low speed and higher speeds. Can it be saved or fixed, also in-future I would like to swap it to a getrag 420g and hoping to keep the all wheel drive. You mentioned the 8hp zf…
Anything is fixable in the zf5 boxes. Just depends how much you want to spend. I haven't done any research on the converters failing but i know its a thing, seems much more common on these older boxes as well. I still think the 8hp will be infinitely better than the 420g :P
on the guibo thing... im using a e90 m3 guibo on a n54 MT box, (due to m3 diff, m3 prop conversion) I believe its a 10mm PCD difference, but i could make it fit squeezing it with c-clamps. Done a few drift track days and so far no vibrations. id say just roll with it, and check it regularly.
So great to get another video consecutively. What a BLAST!! Thanks Guys! Wow some of the technical jargon can really leave those of us that are a bit less informed behind. "A bit of a Donkey Dick thing" I always wondered what those were called but now I know.
@@ZeroTo60Tube i have yet to even try. In my head i decided i was going to custom fabricate a trans mount the first day i decided to do this swap, but it is very enticing to have a factory bmw part that fits lol. since my car is going heavy drag racing im doing solid mounts for everything that moves. i cant wait to see you driving yours , it will be the little fire i need lit under my ass to get me finishing mine LMAO
@@Mp-jw1qg Fingers crossed the 6hp28 lines up. The 8hp70 is about 15mm shorter than the 6hp21, so we might be in luck as the adapter plate offsets them close to this. I know the guru kits all require a custom rear mount, but the trans adapter plate from guru is much thicker than the lamik one. We will know soon.
mate your an absolute legend, this build has come a along way and i cant wait to see the 8hp in motion. :)
Can’t wait for my built 6HP to be assembled. Watching this gets me excited even tho it’s the 8hp.
So many obstacles to tackle fitting the gearbox, look forward to seeing it all working

I bet that’s what it is. Same as the m3 dct. Which would make sense for the extra expected load.
If you have trouble with the “non approved shifter” Canformance has the e9x to f series mount, cheers

All these little details and learnings are invaluable to the community mate, definitely can get a deep 36mm 12 point sockets i have one right here.
Great video as always! Did you need to modify your factory e90 driveshaft?
No need
Thx for the update great job Andrew
Almost there, Andrew. Cann't wait to see this unit rolling! Regards ,Nico.
Thanks for the update! Will you make a pdf that's in perfect English to do the Turbolamik swap?
Probabaky not pdf. More of a video guy. Haha. Once it’s all worked out I will make a video going over everything.
love to see bro finally in the car
Will I need the 6HP28 gearbox mount if I am fitting an 8HP45 in my E82 135i?
Nope. But grab the cross member from the f30 335i.
@@ZeroTo60Tube can you confirm whether an F10 cross member will fit or does it specifically need to be the F30 cross member?
@@b3nonee Unfortunately no idea on the f10 cross member. I have a feeling they are quite different but i have never seen one in the flesh.

hey question which automatic transmission support did you finally use ?
6hp26 from a 3 series. The the bracket, used the stock cross member.

Who do you use for custom mhd tunes?
Ken from wedge. Most experienced tuner out there. But make sure your car is ready and hardware is all in good condition.
Where’s dave at? Been a while since saw him.. or is he our test driver once you done 🤣
Will you weld two n54's together at the base and make a V-N54?
I was drooling over the v12s from 2002-2009 7 series the other wondering how they would take boost.
Close,!!!! We are waiting))))
awww man i need to get myself a ramp :D
ya could cut the socket in half and add in some pipe to make it deeper :D Its dodgey on an impact but mine has lasted years
If only i could weld. Or cut straight.... lol
