What’s Next for Opeth guys? You lot know my taste by now...drop suggestions below ❤️
Check out Sorceress!!! No screaming in it
Burden!!!!
Try Dignity, there is no screaming in it
Or hessian peel which doesn't have much.
The Grand Conjuration, it’s the song that got me into Opeth and it’s awesome, very heavy
I DEMAND A "BURDEN" REACTION PLEEEEEASE !!!
To all those people saying all these different songs are "the best Opeth song"...
You are all correct.
Haha... Sure
They have no bad songs. Even their bad songs are better than most songs from other bands.
opeth clean vocals:
burden - to bid you farewell - a fair judgment
opeth growly vocals:
the moor - leper affinity - bleak
the moooooooor, that track is on a whole new level
Should add Harvest into the clean vocal list
Windowpane
Leper affinity has one of the most hauntingly beautiful clean parts in their whole discography!
H T already done... check out in his profile opeth playlist
Hessian Peel has some growls, but also probably the most beautiful acoustic intro that I have ever heard
Agreed, hopefully he will get to this one. Probably my favorite Opeth track (and that is a hard statement to make).
I agree wholeheartedly. Hessian Peel and Harlequin Forest are their two masterpieces for me.
Yes!!! Hessian Peel has so much to offer
In my opinion Still Life is Opeth’s best album: it’s a masterpiece and an incredible concept album with a beautiful narrative. If not for this album Steven Wilson wouldn’t have produced Blackwater Park.
Thought I was one of the few who had this opinion, it is a very good album, tho MAYH is only just behind it (still beating Blackwater park)
In my opinion, Ghost Reveries has a better composition and production.
@@skabeche81 Still Life is better as a complete album throughout, imho.
skabeche in many ways I agree, it’s the first Opeth album I ever heard and it holds a very special place in my heart
O K yeah it’s also very consistent with each track, they each add to the narrative of the album and fit compositionally
These are my favorite clean vocal Opeth songs: (You won’t regret listening any of 'em I promise!)
1. Burden
2. In my time of need
3. Harvest
4. Hope leaves
5. To bid you farewell
What about credence? The best one so far
Funny that you mentioned "serial killer" vibes, because the next song on the album, Serenity Painted Death, is about how Melinda gets killed and the protagonist goes on a murder rampage. Should do that one next, kicks ass.
Face of Melinda is one of their greatest songs thematically, the emotional and narrative tipping point within the context of the album story. I swear this album needs to be made into a movie.
Mikael has the best growls in metal. It's not so hard to bear. Specially when you have no problems listening to gojira.
Gojira was literally the reason why I could bear the growls at first and now Opeth became myfavorite band and I love the vocals.
Please listen to "All things will Pass" off "In Cauda Venenum" that whole album is amazing. I personally think it's their best release since Mikael gave up growling.
Why don't people request Moonlapse Vertigo more often? It's got some of the most memorable melodies and an almost even mix of both sides of Opeth.
You should maybe do The Moor next.
Great song but he may not enjoy the harsher parts
Madison Blackwood he will enjoy the song. It’s an absolute beauty. Even it’s growls are so poetic
Its a journey
The Moor is my favorite song from that album. You should check that out as well. The vocals on it are epic
I'm recommending moon above sun below
Yes. I have repeated suggested this track. Seems like Drew is missing out on all Opeth from the last 10 years.
This song is a masterpiece
@LongDaLLas that's your opinion man. Grow up
Clean vocals Opeth: Moon Above, Sun Below / River / Chrysalis / Burden / Harvest / Benighted
YES MOON ABOVE SUN BELOW PLEASE
Spot on!
Isolation years, atonement, Eternal Rains will come, Dignity, Garroter
All good suggestions, I'll 2nd River .. I love that song
Thats what I love about a lot of metal, AND Opeth in particular. 7:30
A good majority of music concentrates on conveying primary emotions (like primary colors on a color palette), the reds, yellows, and blues. Opeth is fantastic at painting emotions with more than 3 colors. Anger, sadness, happiness, and everything inbetween. Even things that don't seem like emotions (is "thrill" an emotion? Its like a mix between fear and excitement, or sometimes even anger and excitement). But yeah, I totally get what you're saying here.
'In my Time of Need' is a really calm and dark song by Opeth, that is absolutely beautiful. Would be great to see you giving it a shot!
Btw, love your content man! You introduced me to some amazing tracks in the past few months. Keep up the great work!
Burden, Lovelorn Crime, All Things Shall Pass, some amazing clean songs.
Mate, you should check out the band “Leprous”. I recommend their song “Slave”, although they have many great songs.
Jason phenomenal band, their debut album Tall Poppy Syndrome is criminally underrated
@@IOxyrinchus So true
Id suggest mediocracy wins, passing or at the bottom
But it has to be the live version. Below is a good song to react also.
@@IOxyrinchus The opener to that album, Passing, is so fucking good. Especially the part at the end, you know the one.
11:45 - Drew nervously starts looking for murder hornets :>
Clean Opeth vocals: *_All Things Will Pass_* or *_Burden_*
Growls & clean vocals: *_Bleak_* or *_Hessian Peel_*
Also mind you that this song is from a concept album, so while the song by itself might not be something extraordinary, it fits perfectly with the rest of the songs. Because of this is also why listening through the entire album in one sitting, for maximal effect and atmosphere, is often recommended.
Bloody hell a reaction channel that actually listened to one of my suggested tracks. Thanks dude. Hope you enjoyed it. (just about to watch)
edit - I wonder if you'd like Black Rose Immortal another winding story of a song.
🙏🏻
Yes Black rose immortal would be an epic journey even though he will have to bear with some growls, the diversity in the track will compensate for that
"Hessian Peel" and "Bleak" are my absolute favourites. "The Lotus Eater" might be a close 3rd. If you want no growls at all "Harvest" is pretty chill.
Very cool mate, those are my favourites too. I hope he reacts to one of them
To Bid You Farewell is a pretty chill track. No growls, and definitely some of their best acoustic work in my opinion.
I hope you do more Opeth videos!! They have a lot of masterpieces that you would love! Opeth and Tool are my top 2 best bands :D
Classic Opeth is the best Opeth. I love this album and My Arms, Your Hearse
You should dive into Caligula's Horse my dude. They just dropped a new album this month that is insane.
This guy 🔥 I've been pushing for em, they should be on the list ^_^ maybe if a whole bunch of people jumped on board it'd get done sooner 🤷♂️
@@paravarium Here I jump on board haha
second that ... and he needs to hear and see leprous too. alliance?
yeah grave is good
Hex Omega is the one to go with from this, bit newer progressive track without screaming. EDIT: Hessian Peel is another solid one.
Where owls know my name by Rivers of nihil
Oh yeah! +1 for that track! We need more sax in our lives
Great choice +1 🤘😷🤘
That album is absolutely nuts, I've listened to it to exhaustion the past year
yesssss! or "The silent life", "A Home".. great tracks, great record!
+1 here, love that record
How come no one has mentioned The Grand Conjuration? You'll love Opeth' riffing in that song.
Check out their song Will O The Wisp, it has clean vocals and from a lyrics standpoint it’s one of my favorite songs by them.
Opeth - Continuum - Off their latest album In Cauda Venenum. The whole album is clean vocals, I would also recommend Heart in Hand, Lovelorn Crime, or Dignity off of it.
Great point about the little details in riffs that can just make you keep coming back to a song, Opeth does have a lot of those. In the same vein, you gotta check out the song Graves by Caligula's Horse, the outro section to that is just filthyyyyy, I already know you'd love it. It's all clean vocals too, amazing solos, riffs and overall songwriting.
DREAM THEATER - OCTAVARIUM
The next song is the murder death kill song, "Serenity Painted Death". It's a must listen
It’s been cool to watch you experience Opeth and getting into it! Their music is so rich and layered I think it takes quite a few listens to really appreciate their songs, but once you start feeling it there’s no going back!
Since you need to get more accustomed to growling, I'd recommend songs for Opeth where there's both the clean and harsh vocals.
A Fair Judgement.
Soldier of Fortune ( AMAZING COVER)
Credence (Opeth in their 20s)
To Bid You Farewell (Opeth in their 20s)
Moon Above, Sun Below (listen to the band that influenced the prog scene with their death metal, when they play pure prog)
(all of the tracks above don't actually have harsh vocals but I'm trying to get you more familiar with the Opeth language. when you do, you won't mind the growls as much)
Always enjoying your content!
**PS** don't mind the lyrics as much when it comes to Opeth. it's all in the music.
Also, you won't regret Leprous - Slave
I'm sure that everyone who knows the track agrees that you MUST listen to it first time LIVE.
Don't mind the lyrics??? The first 2 albums are 'meh' lyrics-wise, but the rest are great!
@@Orphaned03 I agree. But compared to what?
TOOL, Black Sabbath? Not in my humble opinion.
Mikael never talked about his lyrics for more than 5 mins, cuz he gives nearly all of his attention to his arrangement.
First Opeth song I ever heard, immediately fascinated me. A friend introduced them to me with this and Dirge for November. So thankful to him. They outstanded from all other bands back in the day.
Some less common suggestions by Opeth that you might like, Still Day Beneath the Sun and Patterns in the Ivy II
A Fair Judgement Live Lamentations DVD please...
beneath the mire
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GET TO THESE BANDS AT SOME POINT:
The Mars Volta
The Contortionist
Animals As Leaders
After The Burial
Polyphia
Chon
Plini
David Maxim Micic
Car Bomb
The Faceless
Despised Icon
The Red Chord
Thank You Scientist
Tesseract
Moonlapse Vertigo or A Fair Judgement would both be great Opeth songs to react to, heavy but quite a bit of clean vocals
Favourite Opeth's cleans:
-Benighted
-Hope Leaves
-To Bid you Farewell (apart from almost the entiere song, the ending is also a must)
-The Moor (middle sections, unbelievable acoustic parts)
-Credence
-Burden
-Hessian Peel
-Porcelain Heart (as you keep on listening to it, you'll find clean vocals and guitars)
-Hex Omega
-Coil
-Advent (it has some superb acoustic parts as you progress into the song)
demon of the fall and to bid you farewell 🙏
Faith in Others! No growls! Beautiful piece of anglo-scandinavian melancholy
Drag Ropes by Storm Corrosion... Opeth meets Porcupine Tree. Unpredictable sounds, but definitely no growls. Please?
This song would require a full listening to the album to be understood fully.
For legit serial killer vibes go with Blackest Eyes by Porcupine Tree
I'm tellin' ya, Godhead's Lament. The first 3 minutes have growls, but... dat middle section tho
This is the best reaction channel there is on UA-cam
I advise The Moor, Red Painted Tip, or Funeral Portrait
the moor - live at albert hall
It's from a concept album set in medieval times so that might explain why the lyrics seem so stylized and maybe a but creepy. I wouldn't draw much meaning from then unless you hear the tracks before this in the album to get the story, but I'm glad you liked the softer Opeth!
Master’s apprentice , Porcelain heart, Bleak, Heir Apparent, Hessian Peel, and the list goes on and on and on........
Agreed. Sometimes it's just a small hook/riff that zaps your head and hardwires you to the song
Check out Periphery!
Satellites, The Bad Thing, or Reptile!!!
Opeth with no growls:
Sorceress
Elysian Woes
Voice of Treason
Over in the Japanese-metal-world I just discovered, and fallen in love with Maximum The Hormone. I wanna suggest "yoshu fukushu" from them.
I like your comment about the small details that make a song worth revisiting. Sometimes for me it can be a single note or even an effect that does just what you're describing. It's hard to explain, but if I get a chill or jolt or tingle then I'm on to something.
Thanks for another vid Drew! Since you've liked Opeth, check out Rivers of Nihil - "Where Owls Know My Name". I think it's got what you're looking for. Cheers, and have a good one!
I WISH I COULD LISTEN TO THIS FOR THE FIRST TIME
I'd love to see more Opeth in here. But please react to some Riverside, Soen, and Sons of Apollo too.
This song is from a concept album, which is why maybe some of the lyrics or themes don't really make sense at first haha.
One of my favourite albums by these guys :)
Opeth - April ethereal, one of their best heavy songs imo
Finally someone mentions something off of my arm your hearse that isn't demon of the fall or When.
@@chaos5840 what about the amen corner or karma
A fair judgement! Such an atmosphere...and no growls!
Storm corrosion - drag ropes
Side project with both the singer or opeth and porcupine tree
Always happy to see people do Opeth. It's good to see slowly getting there with the growls etc and not just sacking it off. If you want growls then OBITUARY's 'Chopped in half' is the song for you lol!!! The Opeth you're doing features Martin Lopez on drums. He left the band shortly after the Ghost Reveries record. He came back with a new band called SOEN in 2012. They have released 4 records to date and i absolutely love them. i think you'll really enjoy them - like really really like em! They are a cross between Tool and Opeth (no screaming though) for want of an easy description but have so many different layers to them and are for me at least - hugely underrated. If i could have an hour of your time for one song from each record then i would suggest from latest release to oldest release. Even if you just do the first one you'll want to do more i guarantee it! Thanks Drew, stay safe.
Martyrs
Lucidity
The Words
Savia
React to all Still Life!!
Yes man.. please note it somewhere and do when you have time
Maybe song 1 to last
Is a epic Conceptual Album
To Bid You Farewell would be right up your alley...it's crazy that track was from '96. I could've been listening to them in high school, but I had no idea haha.
Drew you gotta do Dream Theatre - Glass Prison!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will blow your mind.
Sorceress or Cusp of Eternity! New Opeth is awesome
This is one of the best songs to hear live from Opeth :)
Dream Theater: Octavarium, Count of Tuscany
Opeth(Clean Vocals): Dignity, Atonement, Eternal Rains will Come, Burden, Moon Above Sun Below, Garroter
Steven Wilson: Andestral, Home Invasion/Regret #9
Very good reaction video here, Opeth always has that one sick riff that only they can write that just makes me keep going back to the song!
For more clean vocal Opeth, check out:
Isolation Years
Dignity
Eternal Rains Will Come
Love this song. ❤️
Drew, in my opinion it's time for new Opeth era! Most of Opeth fans are nostalgic dudes who only recommend old songs, while the band have been doing an amazing job for the latest years, as well as something that's much more your style man! But they keep insisting on old songs because THEY love them so much then hope you'll love that just like they do. And I myself love these songs too, but I've been watching your stuff for a while bro, and it makes much more sense to me if you check out the newer stuff and come back after that. And when I say "old songs" I'm referring even to old songs with no growls like this one. Ok, there are no growls, but I still think there's more than that to consider.
=> The new era brings songs without growls AND a lot of newer arrangements and concept that I think you would like more.
So much better with no growls. I liked it a lot better when the tempo picked up of course, but that's just me.
With someone's suggestion a couple weeks back to hear no growling I went to Opeth's UA-cam channel and listened to their last 2 albums (so far), and I thoroughly enjoyed them. They make some great music, and the vocalist has a really great voice.
man up and do some of the brutal opeth. demon of the fall. the moor. or try something off their first 2 releases, orchid or morningrise.
Yes. And
When
The Leper Affinity
Master's Apprentices
😋
“man up” yikes dude..
Fernanda Pereira I’m happy someone else thinks when is a great song
@@bluealewine6037 oh you want me to be all PC and shit? fuck that.
@@bluealewine6037 "person up" or "appropriate pronoun up"? yeah, i don't f'n think so. he needs to man up. It works as is.
I would recommend some mix of clean and clean/growl vocals:
Bleak, Porcelain Heart, Fair Judgement, Burden, Derelict Herds, Eternal Rains Will Come, Hex Omega.
You have to check out Burden man, easily one of their most beautiful songs they ever done
Yes
Porcelain Heart! Clean vocals, soft and heavy instrumental. My first contact with Opeth and I was sold.
Ohhhh Still Life... My first contact with the band and one of the few times my jaw dropped because of music. Just a masterpiece.
Bleak is an Opeth essential! It only has Growls in the intro and the outro. And Steve Wilson makes an appearance
Drew you should listen the whole album, the concept behind Still Life centers around the story of an exiled man who returns home only to find his beloved Melinda married to another. It's a tragic tale of love and death in a cruel and fatalistic world with a most cynical look at human society. The music of Still Life is sometimes heavy, melodic and violent, and at other times it is soft, calm and soothing.
Exactly. The serial killer thing is so misguided and sounding so wrong. That's not Opeth.
Great choice. After watching your album I listened to the whole Still Life album. Trip down memory lane.
I love this song 🎧. React to NOFX - The Decline . You will love it. No growls , clean voice
be back in august... oh you sweet young man
Opeth - demon of the fall
Opeth - windowpane
He has done windowpane. Check his profile
Sorceress and A Fair Judgement. 100% you'll love them. No growls
You should check out Burden by Opeth. There aren’t any growls in it and it’s super good!
Black Rose Immortal
I'm happy you went to a clean song. Hope Leaves from Damnation would be great.
Time for Bleak! Great mix of harsh and clean, a bit heavier than the drapery falls and harlequin forest.
bro the first distortion riff is so good omg
I did not like your channel that much before to be completely honest, but for some reason I've watched some videos here and there. It just so happens that this week I was thinking of this song, and by chance youtube recommended this video. I decided to give it another try, and I really felt like you were being way more honest than I felt like you were in the past (I don't by any means want to say you were or were not honest - I'm talking about my perception, miles across the ocean, from a screen).
Specially what you said at the end, it felt really honest. If you do become a prog-rock-metal reaction channel, I'll be happy to subscribe and be part of that journey. Maybe I can re-live moments of my own journey! How I wish I could listen to some of these for the first time again, and just by watching you do it I actually do revive some of that feeling.
Right on dude, keep on going. Cheers!
Yeahhhh. Finally more Öpěth.
Please react to the track that comes after Face of Melinda on the album. It's called Serenity Painted Death.
He is not ready. Moor will be a better suggestion
absolutely seconded
Byzantine - Justinian Code official video!
To bid you farewell is a masterpiece
Yuuuus my favorite
You should really listen to moon above sun below, dignity, or all things will pass. Their newer stuff is much different from the old. If the growls aren't for you, I don't think any of their older songs are going to change your mind.
Hessian peel my man ;)
He finally did another one 😅
Moon Above, Sun Below. Best track on the album.
