Thank you SO much for your videos. I am not a mechanic, but by following your directions, I recently adjusted the valves on my 2008 Element, and it’s running so much better. Please know that you are TRULY appreciated for the time and effort you put into helping others through your channel!
Have never attempted to do anything like this on an automobile but with your guidance I would have no concerns performing this service. Very informative, thank you!
Great video, great lighting and framing! I just did my adjustment last week. All I would add is make sure your feeler guage is exactly flat in the gap / orthogonal to the valve axis of motion, otherwise it tends to bind, even if it's off by just a couple degrees. I bent mine to the exact angle to make it slide in straighter. Also inspect cam lobes for pitting and wear.
What is that tool that he used to stick into the valve to measure it? Are they different thickness for each valve witch mean 4 pieces of tool? Thx in advance.
Thanks, Danny for this video. I, too, just had my Element's valves adjusted. I didn't do it but had my Honda indie did a great. Found out that all the exhaust valves were tight. Now, they are fine. Keep doing these videos. They help out a lot.
I just adjusted mine. Here’s my findings- ‘08 SC w/175K miles, manual. All exhaust side valves were tight, only one on intake side. If you take the power steering hose off, only do it for a second! I found a puddle of PS fluid under the E when done haha. Much thanks for the video Danny! It was so easy to follow. My stalling problem is now gone!
I appreciate you posting this, good to know the video was helpful, thanks for sharing your details on the valves, this is very important information for others to know.
Love the channel; thank you very much! I just did a valve adjustment for the first time today on my '07 Element and it went well thanks to your videos.
Used your video this morning to help adjust the valves on my 03 EX 95000 miles ... They were all in spec ...however the exhaust was at the tight end of the spec and the intake was a little loose ...we are talking 1-2 Thousands of an inch ..pretty fiddly ..I am waiting on parts to fix a power steering leak ..the valve cover was leaking also ...so it just made sense except for the heat ..id like to wait till the fall to do this ... Didn't use your marks ..the 03 is a little different the plastic on the chain guide is smaller so you can't mark it like you said ...I used the marks for #1 then just turned the motor till the cam lobe was on the lowest part to adjust the rest ... The power steering leak got the belt oily so the power steering pump wouldn't turn it ...just slipped ..replacing that too ...The Cams have 8 sided hex built into them ..I used a wrench to turn them over ... Gonna clean paint and prep the cover now and put it back this evening when it's cool ..Power steering part won't be here for 3-4 days ...so there is no hurry ..
Danny, I really have to thank you. I finally did this and boy am I glad I did! My engine runs smoother, less vibration, and less noise. Thanks for giving me the confidence to do this!
You’re welcome, I’m very appreciative when fellow UA-camrs send comments of success, many hour and days go into research, filming and editing to make sure the videos are correct and easy to understand. Thank you
I utilized the lobe top and center method for each cylinder. All my idle hesitation issues were resolved. So what's the difference between utilizing the crank marks vs the top and center method?
Hi Danny, if utilizing a dealer for this service. Does the engine need to cool down for around 2 hours before work can be performed? Or does engine need to be ice cold - sitting overnight before work can be done?
This is the 3rd video I've watch on how to do this. I'm still not feeling confident in doing the job. 😔 Sure would like to save the money spent on doing the job. Looks easy enough but that lining up the camshaft thing just not sure of. 🤔
Li, I understand, If you aren’t comfortable doing this, then you shouldn’t, I showed every step and everything you will need, I totally understand comfort level. I do appreciate you watching my videos 👍🏼
Thanks for the video. I’m still unclear based on all the videos I’ve seen. When I am TDC on cylinder 1 I can adjust the intake and ALSO the exhaust? Exhaust doesn’t have to be TDC?
@@SDPosse619 so true! Eric the car guy said get TDC on intake side and then do both intake and exhaust clearance. Then later in the video he shows how he brought the exhaust side to TDC! Also this video does not just look at the cam lobes to "guess" TDC but the others appear to.
I had no symptoms myself, Element valves tightened over time, drivability issues do show up, best to check adjustments before issue to avoid engine damage
Can overdoing the exhaust side valves too loose, result in a noiser engine? I did this adjustment before watching your video, but I did the exhaust side looser than OEM Spec, and I think it has caused the engine to run louder at idle, I am not sure.
2:47 I'm thinking I can make my own version of this tool. 10mm deep socket wrench and vise grip for the bottom part and a screwdriver stuck through the socket wrench.

Always blows my mind seeing such tiny screw/nut rotations being the entire adjustment

I followed your video to the T and the valve adjustment has fixed my stalling/running rich condition! All but two valves were below half the spec!
Glad it helped

Excellent video but suddenly I'm hungry for some Hot & Sour soup and an order of Crab Rangoon.
if u look at the cam position sensor u can use the numbers on the wheel to set tdc and line every cylinder for ajustment to
Thanks for the feedback
everyone else on youtube is adjusting the valves when the lobe is straight up, but the way your doing it is different, which is the better way?.......
Lots of ways to do things, mine is the most accurate
Will this method works the same with other cars or trucks?
Yes
I utilized the lobe top and center method for each cylinder. All my idle hesitation issues were resolved. So what's the difference between utilizing the crank marks vs the top and center method?
Both methods work, crank marks in my opinions is easier
Did you do that for intake and exhaust side?
thank you
you're welcome
I thought the cam lobe has to be up for each cylinder before you adjust the valves but your video is based on the lining of the timing chain.
My method is based on factory manual with a little creative touch to make it easier, tried and tested👍🏼
