I was blessed to have met Ms. Makeba “Mama” in Flint Michigan 1994. My Wife and I were allowed to spend time with she, her friends & family and Hugh Masekela. My life was richly blessed by this experience.
I have just come back from the cinema where there is now Miriam Makeba - Mama Africa, the documentary showing. I learnt so much about this phenomenal woman. The movie is a journey of powerful and joyous music that explores the plight of her people. As a black artist freely traveling the world and singing my songs in freedom I feel uterly humbled and proud of this African woman who paved the way for me and fellow artists world wide!
What an amazing, wonderful, courageous woman. Such a beautiful, powerful voice. The apartheid system in South Africa was outrageous -- unforgivable, just so egregious. Humans are so inhumane, sometimes. ~ In a world where you can be anything, be kind ~ Miriam embodied goodness and kindness. And, that voice! ❤
OK so there is one person who accidentally pressed the dislike button because surely he or she understood who Miriam Makeba was! Anyway, Miriam was absolutely fantastic. What a beautiful spirit. Thank God that he allowed us s short time with this Angel.
I was born in 1958. I missed her entirely, and that is what a segregated society costs its citizens. I just found the Click Song today. This is amazing.
we had our favourite nanny, and for the life of me, we never once thought that we be hurting her feelings, whether we left or stayed - Im now almost 60 years old, and just learnt what its like to hear from your side - God bless for the enlightenment
What a legend! If only more of our generation would aspire to be like her and others who have graciously paved the way for us to follow our dreams with our integrity intact. RIP Mama Afrika
Praise GOD He is still in Charge! and All Vengeance belong to Him. Thank you for this wonderful informative message, at this time when so much History is being erased. Blessings.❤
What a moving tribute to a legend, an icon and a mother to Africa!! Through her efforts and others, I am able to live in a free South Africa as a young woman, something she was denied. Siyabonga mama, RIP.
. Miriam Makeba is as relevant today in this Pandemic Era / Black Lives Matter era as she was in the SouthAfrican Apartheid time. So thankful for her life and stand. What an example
When I was a young child Pata Pata was very popular in my neighborhood and home especially. We learned of Mariam Makeba's struggles with apartheid from ebony and jet magazines including her marriage to Stokely Carmichael. A blessed memory!!! er marriage to Stokely Carmichael.
The South Africa that Miriam Makeba presented on the world stage when i watched her in February 1977 during FESTAC in Lagos is totally different from the South Africa that has emerged today.
Magnificent, just magnificent.First saw her with Belafonte in the sixties and several times thereafter.A giant in the entertainment world ,a giant for human rights.Sadly missed.
OMG, I just knew all this while that she's a musician but I never knew she has gone through so much and has done so much for Africa😭😭😭 I'm crying so much at how her mom died, I'm sorry 😭😭😭 RIP Mama Africa ❤️
People right now complain about mundane problems. People like Makeba & other black, brown, and other ethnic people who were alive before the 70s, experienced REAL struggles. I feel so blessed for those who fought against apartheid, communism, socialism directly.
I’m just saying if you’re the best child in the Lord He always will give wisdom to stand sternest indeed. I am glad to hear her voice and it makes my heart happy 🎉❤🎉.
Great video! Wonderful woman. Powerful, moving, inspirational way with words. Beautiful voice indeed..so beautiful she changed lives and changed a country for the better with it. So much work to be done still...God Bless Africa! ..Your time will come..
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful tribute to Miriam Makeba. I was just teaching my daughter (10yrs.) the Pata, Pata song that my gramma taught me. This song she now loves and wanted to know the story of Mama Afrika.... I could not have told it any better.... THANK YOU FOR PERSERVING THIS WONDERFUL PIECE OF HISTORY!!!!
Miriam Makeba (4 March 1932 - 9 November 2008), nicknamed Mama Africa, was a Grammy Award-winning South African singer and civil rights activist. In the 1960s she was the first artist from Africa to popularize African music around the world. She is best known for the song "Pata Pata", first recorded in 1957 and released in the U.S. in 1967. On 4 March 2013, Google honored her with a Google Doodle on their homepage.
Hey! Super awesome of you french to now come and commend people who were oppressed. malheureusement, c'est une blague! Still trying to deal with the shhhht that EU caused on the the world. Speaking from a different world not far from yours (in terms of astronomical distances) but vastly different. I am a R-cist and I should have the right to be because I am skilled but poor. Learned but poor. Mature but poor. and honestly, it is only because my ancestors were gullible and humble fellows.
Uau... Assisti ontem mxm ao documentário... É difícil dscrever o k senti, uma mistura d emoções... Miriam Makeba... É tão trist cmo Africana k sou saber tão pouco sobre as minhas raizes, mas felizment ainda ñ é mto tarde e... Obrigada Miriam, ''Tuapandula'' Mama Africa.

what a great documentary! Music, imagery used very well, thank you! Such an inspirational story. That we would have the same passion for our dear continent and use what the good Lord has given us to fight for its freedom, peace and welfare of our people.
I remember her mainly for that song at the end of the video, and it was with the news of her death that I learned more about her. Thanks for the video !!!
The information at 6:40 is wrong. I don't know if the song, "Soweto Blues" was written in 1976, but the footage was from Paul Simon's Graceland concert in Africa. It was for 27 years at that point that she had been exiled. That concert was done in 1987. Paul Simon mentioned that in the introduction.
Anyone here ever read Lily Mabura's 'The Pretoria Conspiracy'? I think the character Nandi the Singer properly describes and represents Miriam Makeba...I really am proud of this great woman!!
Africa the origin of mankind, Africa always remember the rest of the world that music existed since men started to interact with the surrounded environment. Africa always remember us that there is a purpose in all music for everything. Africa´s beat, Africa´s soul, Africa´s rhythm is in every single musician around the world, African music is in most of us since the beginnings of times
GREATNESS HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAMA AFRICA GREATNESS IS IN YOU AN THE BLESSING OF GOD IS UPON YOU FOR ALL YOU DONE FOR SOUTH AFRICA GOD BLESS RIP. IN JESUS NAME AMEN.
I heard the adults talking about her when I was little in the 70s. I loved her Pata Pata song and never knew she was singing it. I heard her name, but I didn't know who she was or what she did. I just found out today that she was South African, Xosa. I know I spelled it wrong, but I don't know the correct spelling. I had no idea of her place in the struggle to end apartheid. I only learned of Apartheid a few years before it ended.
I was blessed to have met Ms. Makeba “Mama” in Flint Michigan 1994. My Wife and I were allowed to spend time with she, her friends & family and Hugh Masekela. My life was richly blessed by this experience.
You should be really lucky

Thank you for posting this wonderful video...very educational. God bless you and continue the good work.
I truly hope that someone makes a movie of her life. I also hope that the movie inspires people to be good to one another.
Whites do indeed need to be good to others! But a movie will not make it happen ✊🏿
