And while I've heard about her and even knew her songs, I only discovered here this month after Angelique Kidjo did a cover of her. Such a treasure-able African beauty!

she speaks so much truth! and the problem is still the same. i am white but deeply care about racism and any injustice, and i have to say that most people see me as a pain in the butt, when i talk about these issues. i most of the time get "why do you care, you are not black/muslim(or whatever).." or rolling eyes.. many people also like to argue and say "it's not an issue anymore, we are over this", these are usually the people who at one point or another are racist themselves.

what an amazing woman: so beautiful so brilliant with the composure and grace of a queen. She came from the most humble beginnings imaginable, She persevered and she overcame countless obstacles in her way. However she did not just enjoy the life that her great talent afforded; instead she used her voice and worked to her dying day* to improve the lives of others. (*on the day she passed away in November of 2009 she had performed at a concert in Italy to counter the destruction wrought by organized crime in Campania.)
I watched this brief interview and couldn't have enough of her charm, obvious natural beauty, elegance, and articulateness. It's not for nothing she was given the sobriquet,Mama Africa. What Nelson Mandela did through activism and advocacy, she achieved with her evocative music and magnetism.
She was beautiful and very real. Her approach reminds me of a Bible verse that states, "A soft answer turns away wrath." Her gentle honesty speaks sooo loud. This racism stuff: majority verse minority, needs to be abolished. The so called "majority" needs to realize we are all in this world together. Period.
