John Fogerty! Vocal Analysis of CCR's "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" (Forefather of Grit & Twang)

- Creedence Clearwater Revival was the first Rock band I heard with an insanely gritty and twangy vocalist front man. I instantly resonated with Fogerty's approach and when I began to connect the dots to Cornell and other, newer vocalists... His influence was undeniable. This song is a fun study!

have you heard mephisto from queen bee?, there's first take version of it.. and I would love to learn from your analysis.. love from Indonesia!!
god i'm so glad you're going over his voice, he's been one of my favorites for as long as i can remember
I love how you show the process, the messy process of getting a certain tone. Most other vocal videos I’ve seen have guys that just belt out a perfect line then say “there it is, you need to practice more.” You make things much more accessible.
that twangy grit John had in the CCR era was unmatched, what a cool sound
yes please do more of these classic song breakdowns and vocal analysis
i love your videos dude. yes, your an expert. but its more then that. the enthusiasm. the rawness. maybe im wrong, but it really feels like your not super rehearsed with these videos. your learning/hearing as we do. and i love the raw and transparent vulnerableness of that. we see your process for trying to work it out, as someone who knows how to, and we learn so much more thanks to this. ❤
Yes! I love these because you get style lessons and technique all in one!
Like so many people, Ive heard this song a million times but I had never paid much attention to his approach and how it changes. Thanks Chris!
You're such a great singer and teacher, thank you for sharing this with us.
Hello Chris, amazing lesson as always. You are sharing gold. Also I like your wrist watch selection. Thank you and keep it up. All the best to you and everyone learning here!
Great analysis. Fogerty is one of the most iconic voices in rock and roll history.
I love John Fogerty. I'd be interested to hear you analyse Dan McCafferty.
Thank you for your videos Chris, awesome tips. How about one video once about Rob Flynn's Screams, the singer from Machine Head ? I always loved the fact that he has such a deep voice when he screams and a smooth singing. Thanks a lot and keep it going !
Awesome analysis as usual. 👏 You really unlock the secret to singing this without sounding angry. 💡
I've never seen this music video before, Jack Quaid from The Boys😂 Dennis Quaid's Son.. and Erin Moriarty who plays Starlight and is dating Jack's character Hughie I know he loves classic rock, he's always wearing band T-shirts on the show but I never knew he did a music video. Very cool Chris, I've always loved trying to learn John Fogerty
So good-both your breakdown and his singing! A class in vocal appreciation. Great era for singers. How about Leslie West? Talk about power and distortion. Would love to see you unlock that mysterious voice too.
What’s amazing is his speaking voice is so light and high! All that grit was on purpose not a byproduct of a raspy speech
Thanks for actually doing my suggestion this helps a lot! this video is like Christmas come early
Great analysis and more. Great vocal insight in how to create artistic dynamic expression.
Great Lesson, thanks..
Been trying to sing this for years now, but never really nailing it. Now I know why. My ears were lazy and uneducated. I'm really grateful for this lesson, Chris!
Hey Chris, thanks for this one, love Fogerty's vocals, so ballsy while being easy-going... one unrelated question, could you revisit Bono some time in the future? Ever since the original video, I was wondering whether or not he'd used a mix voice approach on songs like Unforgettable Fire, and I'm Gonna Go Crazy if I Don't Go Crazy Tonight. Take care and thank you for the videos!
That was really interesting. I was experimenting along but with someone else in the house... only to a limited degree 😂 When it comes to Fogerty, would you consider doing Born On The Bayou? That one's beaten several attempts of mine and I feel the main reason that's not an absolute standard in covers bands is because very few male vocalists feel confident about singing it.
Thank you. My preferred karaoke song, thought easy to sing and only seconds over two minutes. I did all your lessons and it'll be better version in karaoke next time.
Chris, you must check out Search - Fantasia Bulan Madu. Search is a Rock n Roll band from Malaysia. And I gotta say the singer, Amy, is the best singer we've ever seen. This song "Fantasia Bulan Madu" from Search is one of their most popular songs. Most of their songs and albums are full of crazy vocal stunts. If you wanna hear the best vocal grit, you must check them out Chris. I'm telling you, you won't regret it. Their songs are great. They are very popular in Malaysia back in the 90s, however as they age, of course the singer can't do the vocal stunts anymore like he used to. I also wanna know your opinion if his singing habit is good or not for his vocal health.
Let me list some of the other of their greatest songs:

Chris, could you please do a video analyzing Randy Blythe from Lamb of God?
when i saw the thumbnail i tought that was justin bieber 😂
Haha
Can you do a multitrack reaction on michael jackson's burn this disco out
John Fogerty, John Lennon, Ozzy Osbourne, Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Stevie Nicks... are a huge middle finger to those who say "don't sing nasal" 😆Some real twang there.
Chris, the best vocal performance by the mighty Fogerty is "Long as I can see the Light" (ua-cam.com/video/fu_fjQXAra4/v-deo.html&ab_channel=CreedenceClearwaterRevival) the best bit is after 1m50, after the sax solo. I grew up listening to Creedence and he has always been one of my favorite singers. He can turn the grit on and off so well. Please do a video on this track.
