Perfection that the British Museum would hire a wizard to head up the department of Demons, Ghosts and Sprites section.
You mean an actual practitioner?
Wizard of ancient lore and runes😋
I'm not a huge fan of Peter Jackson's take on the Tolkien universe, but I think he should get Irving to star in one of his movies, even if it's just a short cameo, all he'd have to do is be himself.
kuribo1 hahahahahah....zing
@kuribo 1 🧙♂️
An excellent choice, lol.
This guy looks exactly like I would imagine a philologist and assyriologist with the name "Irving Finkel" to look like
Hunter Rodrigez like a Jewish wizard?
Hilarious and you are right!
Like Professor Poliakoff on the Periodic Videos channel - looks just like a mad scientist.
Harry Potter's grandfather!
I came down to the comments to write the exact same thing. Bravo.
*Somebody give this guy a BBC documentary series.*
Yes! That is a fantastic idea!!
Yasss!! He really is quite the character of my preconceived notions of the name "Irving Finkel" but in a good way! You cant help but be immersed into the topic he is so enthusiastically telling about. I like this guy👍
RIGHT!!!!!!?/
Sir George is love that
Sir George he’s be too busy as a museum curator to stuff around with old fashioned media 😂
He speaks beautifully, it's such a pleasure listening to him! The pazuzu was treated absolutely slanderously by Hollywood, it seems :-D

The world can never have enough of Irving Finkel. He needs his own tv show!
You say we can never have enough of him, but when that glorious and terrifying beard grows to such a size that all available living space on the planet has been consumed, you'll wish we'd taken action to limit the amount of Irving Finkel in existence sooner.
@Tabby Katniss I have never heard of this man until right now. Something tells me he's a man I should get to know.
… he |s not real, he's just a creation of a well done ki-programme from the british-museum-pr-department ...
I'm afraid people are coming to UA-cam cos cable is dying and TV is now full of poop lol too many ppl currently doing stuff just for money so all the pros are coming here.
He has such character and charisma! I think we all could sit and listen to his stories for hours. The Grandfather we all wish we had, telling us tales of ancient deities and cultures. Awesome, we want more Finkel videos! :)
Indeed!!
I finally feel like a Hogwarts student in Defence against the dark Arts.
Could listen to this amazing man for hours!! Give him his own show already, please
Quite so!!

Well he left out a few things about Pazuzu. He also cures illnesses. Not bad right?
He also causes famines and infestations so enjoy the kid while you have them because if the rays don't get him you just might after you go insane from hunger. What a swell guy that Pazuzu is right?

The personality and raw energy of Dr Finkel is what's _really_ supernatural
The raw sexual energy of the Fink is unstoppable
I really like these videos. I'm from Turkey and I learned about the basics of Mesopotamian civilisations in school. But these smaller details and stories from everyday life in Mesopotamia give us a fuller picture of what it was like back then. I used to love going to the Anatolian Civilisations Museum in Ankara and would be completely mesmerised by the artefacts there. I now have a British Museum membership and go to the museum often but seeing these artefacts ripped out from where they came from (Turkey, Iraq, Iran) makes me very sad. I especially don't appreciate that they say the British Museum has 'acquired' these items when they were smuggled out of these countries by British archeologists who 'discovered' them. On the other hand, the care and attention that they have given these stolen items are exemplary. I think that the British Museum should be honest about the way they came to be in possession of Hellenic, Mesopotamian, Roman artefacts. Which was through smuggling and thievery. I can still appreciate that they cared more about these items than we could at the time they were excavated, but it's maybe time to repatriate them where possible.
That sniff he did startled the heck out of me haha

I got so excited when I saw the title of the video. I'm extremely happy that the British Museum is making content like this on UA-cam - there are far too many people talking about stuff on UA-cam but have no clue about what they are talking about. Good job British Museum! Continue doing stuff like this!
I wish I was this guy’s friend in real life.
Get a life, dude.
So very true
What his boyfriend....
1. You're not up to it.
2. He has no friends.
Fran Benson Some people like knowledge,,,,,
Mr Finkle is by far the most interesting professional and completely thorough curatorial historian one has ever had the honor of learning from... his artful comedic understanding of ancient texts brings to life and wonderment what would otherwise most likely be concidered dusty old skipping stones with scribbles about them. Fantastic ! Thank you a more truely inspirational speaker would at best be difficult to find.
Irving could have a UA-cam channel of his own, he has such a way with words that keeps everything interesting and tantalising!
Definitely having a lookout for those!
Sir you make people happy through the knowledge. Respect
Wonder if they’re missing him at Hogwarts yet.
Just spit up.my coffee!!! 😂😂😂
Lmao
@Max Larsen What are you talking about?
Doubt it.
@Max Larsen I don't have a daughter. If there are allegations against Dr Finkel, then provide them. Otherwise I'll just have to assume you're trolling.
I love this guy! What a character. Exactly what I imagined a proper British Museum curator would look and sound like!
The British Museum is lucky to have such an amazing story-teller AND probable wizard. THIS MAN SHOULD BE A NATIONAL TREASURE!
I see Dr. Finkel in the thumbnail and I click! I live a very simple life with very simple rules.
I am now going to do the same. This was great

I'd love to watch a whole documentary from and with him. He has such an entertaining way of delivering information. And I love, that he kept his inner nine year old. That view on the world is so inspiring.
There's a PBS documentary about Noah's Ark that features I.F. - it's based on his research into the true construction of the ark. Even without I.F., it's absolutely wonderful!

Thank you for restoring the reputation of old Pazuzu. Hollywood equates good looks with good character and physical ugliness with a twisted soul, as did Shakespeare (Richard III). This is a common failing of humanity, so its good to see it refuted every now and then.
Many villains were beautiful or handsome in Shakespeare, what are you on about?
chaosincarna I'm not sure, wasn't Richard III deformed? Anyway I do remember seeing a Roald Dahl children's story which made the same point and it bothering me because it's so foolish. Infants were already born with biases to attractiveness, do we really need writers also equating it with moral character?
That's my one complaint with Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy. He makes all the ugly things bad and such.
@@ckminty603 Richard III wasn't actually deformed in any way, he was relatively handsome (based on portraits - also his remains were found and show no unusual characteristics). But he was the last Plantagenet king, and the Tudors after him wanted to give him the worst reputation possible, and Shakespeare was very pro-Tudor.
Well I think that's because it is Tolkein's LOTR trilogy, just sayin. Yes, he does, dehumanising the enemy is actually sort of like a propaganda tactic. Weird when you think about how ideas like that 'good triumphing over evil monsters' are used in the past but given th time it was written WWII (and obviously something to do with it!) i'd have less qualms about those particular enemies being portrayed negatively. @@Tiger74147 a movie that got into trouble for doing that was 300 of course. There's also a black mirror episode that explores that theme perfectly. I'm rambling.
This is my first time watching Mr. Irving Finkel. He's so amazing!! He needs his own show👏💞
My god. Irving Finkel is real. This is wonderful.
Absolutely love this man, what a great teacher, speaker and person. Could listen to him all day.

I swear to god I can listen to Sir Finkel all day long, this man is trully fascinating and the things he has to say are just as much fascinating
Wow. I was doubtful, but I subscribed, and my life really IS better in every possible way. Thank you Irving Finkel!
Mr. Finkel! I could listen to you for hours and hours. I simply adore your tale telling fashion. It's engrossing, erudite, amusing and by times scary. You're depiction of (forgive the spelling) Lamashtu (?) was absolutely bone chilling. Imagine a new mother of the time, terrified this daemon would devour her child! I'm sure the mortality level for infants was very high and something had to be blamed, certainly.
Such a joy to see you. 💖

What Dr. Finkel says about Pazuzu is interesting. There is a line in the Exorcist in which Father Merrin finds the Pazuzu amulet, and mutters to himself "Evil against evil". That puts a whole new light on the Exorcist. What if Pazuzu was the hero of the story, trying to protect Regan from the demons inside her?
What a fascinating comment!!
@@francisfischer7620 Thank you. I am reminded of Medieval gargoyles. They were not incorporated on to cathedrals not to attract evil forces, but to frighten them away. I have a particular interest in Ancient Egyptian magic and demonology. Demons were often invoked to battle other demons. Yesterday's demons are often today's angels and vice a-versa. (Metaphorically of course).

It's fascinating to see how ancient civilisations were somewhat "bookmarking" ideas and concepts through very abstract personifications!
Encoding knowledge and memories through figures that would catch people's attention, dramatically.
