In this BJJ Moves video, Lachlan Giles explains how to defend the Americana Jiu Jitsu move.
Lachlan Giles is one of the most sought after black belt BJJ instructors in the world. This is an excerpt from his latest instructional The Fundamentals of BJJ Escapes available exclusively at BJJFanatics.com.
BJJ Fanatics was started by a pair of black belts (Bernardo Faria & Michael Zenga) who feel that nothing is more important than improving your BJJ skills as much as possible in the least amount of time. Their aim was to create a shop for BJJ Students who don’t look at BJJ as a sport - but as a lifestyle.

Got caught twice with one of these yesterday despite using the proper escape because I was smashed by much larger partners. The best defense is not letting your arm get extended in the first place. i.e. Don't be lazy with your defensive posture.
excellent technique very effective
Bigger heavier white belts at the gym hoping smaller lighter white belts don't watch this escape. This will nullify 100% of their submission attacks.
Sounds like a salty little man upset cuz he loss the genetic lottery
How is being heavier genetic in a broad perspective. Anyone can build muscle and weight through training
Hey man, stop dissin my game.
@@RedEyedAlain Man flexed being fat as a lottery winner 😂
Yes
So basically if you get americana'ed, you're a noob?
Yeah but they’re a good way to set up other submissions
You can use americana to get them to turn or sometimes people extend their arms to defend it as well. After they turn, you can go for S mount, gift wrap, arm triangle, etc.
this is so easy I feel stupid.
Or you're just that much smaller/weaker than the opponent
what happens if he has grape vines in and you can’t bridge?
I’d debate if this works because if it does then you’ll end up in twisting arm control, secondly americanas at least where I’m taught you stay tight to the person completely isolating the arm and squishing them which will stop the turning, and for tucking the elbow, when doing a Americana you make sure there is no space between your bicep and their tricep or elbow
Last night i got beat by americana by a dude who i thought i can play with. I am still embarasses i think i will sit and watch these vids till i pass out
U get him back yet?
I got tapped twice today by an Americana by a dude whos never tapped me yet. Sucked.
