7:15 “they run around in circles and nothing happens” this was my biggest mental block for the longest time because I always thought I was so close to catching them and getting my guard back!
man our intermediate class coach teaches from this guy's videos and I've been back only 1 year since 2015, during which I had to take 4 months and 6 months off from a knee and ankle injury and I used to use this guy's knee shield pass all the time, my memory is still VERY fuzzy and man I can't believe all these details I forgot.. . . SUBSCRIBED!
I really like these techniques, getting to an elbow seems to work well for my body type. Thanks very much for all the details, will keep working at them👊
Totally agree. When people pancake on me when I’m transitioning in north south, I just continue to back control. I think that an escapee that relies on being able to do a push-up plus weight, and then explode forward into a take down is probably not practical for all ages. I love me some Giles though, so not shit talking here.

It's great that 10th planet and Danaher are giving specific names to positions. I am not a fan of the in systematic and sometimes not child friendly naming of positions by 10th planet practioners.
Good stuf! with the first tecnique, I think I would fight for the underhook and then for the back or reverse the takedown instead of going back to guard.
@absolutemmastkilda-melbourne at 4.00 escape demo #1 is their a possibility of following the arm and capturing it bellying down and following through for a waki gatame? Thanks for all the content too been trying to work extremely hard with my no gi defense.
thx for the amazing content :) what do you think about doing the stiff arm (turkish get up) escape with a c-grip under the armpit instead of the outside of the elbow when you push your opponent over your body? I often use this as an americana defense (with sometimes a reversal as benefit).
Lachlan thanks for all the great material. Loved your seated guard series on the grappler's guide. Question for you regarding the frame and hip escape technique: do you find it necessary to bridge before the initial hip escape or is establishing frames enough?
In regard to the escape at min 6:00. I’m watching Danaher side control escape, he doesnt shift his hip all the way out like you did. Instead, Danaher shifts his hip slightly, just enough to get the right leg into the guys hips, then he proceeds to recover a full guard. Here you shrimped your hips far out to shift and get that right leg into his hips before proceeding to recover a full guard. Can you explain to me the advantages or disadvantage in shifting/shrimping all the way out or doing so to get just enough space to get you leg into the hip.
John Danaher also uses his left foot to trap the partner's right ankle (he "captures the knee"), where Lachlan puts his left knee inside the biceps. John is making what Lachlan calls a "mistake" but by doing what I just said, he shifts his body so he can free his leg. I think both approaches are good, you should try both and see what fits you the most
Love the Video, Great movements and transitions. As a Judo guy primarily it is cringe when I see extended arms, open chokes, and arm bar link ups left open as you are trying to transition and slide into better position. Understandably great movements for what you are demoing. Also from that first position once you are pressing your opponent off of you the transition into a modified side control with Kesa-gatame is wide open with your extended arms. Both arms could be scooped up and locked which would allow you to free the inside (closest) arm but would unfortunately trap the outside arm and lock you into that side control from there. I'd love to see you show that transition and escape with your partner in the future! Great video
That's wrong on so many levels. The idea is to fight for underhook! That's exactly why I dislike BJJ and MMA. First one complicates what is otherwise a simple concept, transforming it into lower percentage techniques along the process. As for the second one, it lacks real personal experience. You simply go by the copy&paste rule without even trying to find simpler, better solutions. No way I call this knowledge!

I like to reach with my under hooking hand and grab the angle of the person whose guard I’m passing (with an over under pass, if that wasn’t clear)
That bit made me think about my career choices and life.
Bought your half guard DVD because I got instant results just from watching this 9 min video so 10 hours of stuff must get me even better results lol
You won't be disappointed!
This guy is not only good at what he does, he is good at TEACHING what he does. There are a lot of good wrestlers out there that are not good teachers
Every video by Giles is the best.
this is one of the best videos I have ever seen

Excellent for gi as well. Thank you for sharing!
This is like my favorite video on UA-cam.
Great video, I suck so bad at escaping side control. I'm focusing alot of my energy to learning these escapes🤘🤘🤘

I was doing the mistake of the third escape. Thx a lot to make it clear;)
me too
Solid, solid gold.
Many thanks for showing 'stop him moving round ' leg/knee technique. Prior to seeing your vid, I always thought my technique wasn't quite right.
Your videos really helps me a lot. Thank you so much!
Solid wrestling. Great video. Thanks!
That last escape, the crossed underhook can be utilized so well to even be able to spin with him and recover guard

Nice vid and enjou your style of teaching. Will practice this for a while and hopefully i can actually get out of/prevent side control maby once lol
Thanks! been working on my side control escapes. got a good few details from your video today.
Excellent tutorial! 🙏👊
This video is super helpful, thank you for making this
This is gold. Thank you.
Awesome! Looks like there are some triangle openings from the bottom while scrambling to the guard position in the first and third technique.

@@adamabbas1487 I agree, at least Danaher’s names have some etymological legitimacy
@@adamabbas1487 Not child friendly? What are they calling stuff?
Thanks. Great detail. Looking forward to trying this out tonight. 😁
He is great instructor

Hey Lachlan,
Would I be right in saying your main objective on bottom is to stop your opponent controlling your head?
Investigue tudo e todos
Awesome!

Recap 8:37
Do you have a video for sale on no gi side escapes?
🤙
That guy was the perfect uke.
Just the right amount of reaction and resistance to wear it was easy to demonstrate the technique but they uke didn't look like a dead fish
2:25
absolute mma crew lookin thick solid tight. keep us posted on your progress wanna see how thick solid and tight you guys can get
Idk why "thick solid and tight" makes me feel uncomfortable
stopped watching these vids since lockdown cry emoji
How could you escape when the opponent on TOP is punching you?
The same way..
Punching actually makes it easier as it opens up escapes 1 and 2
As someone else says punching makes escapes easier since they release the control. You may take some shots though but its a fight.
Are these all you need to escape for side control? Ty!
Depends on the context. For MMA, it’s pretty much just “go straight to turtle and explode out” lol.
🦋🦋🦋
Made the mistake of not keeping my hips/top leg high enough on #1 and my partner just jumped to the other side to pass.
fk yes!!!
osssss

FFiiirrree
Scotts side control is weak as fuck
