I am a bedroom musican since 1996, owned at least 50 various synths, drum machines and samplers but I have never had so much fun for such a long time with a single peace of gear. Good job, Elektron!

@@noobslayerr9732 For me it's important how the gear looks. It's big part of whether it's inspiring or not for me. Also I don't even know how you can compare MPCs to Electron gear - they're both samplers only on paper :)

@@Artek604 8 outs a groovebox inside on a beast of a sequencer and usb direct sampling tell me you are wrong..
Octa aint a sampler is a mixer and a parts sampling maggler on a decent midi sequencer which responds amazing to elektron ecosystem alongside other elektron gear.
i love elektron bro but their sound for that price range is at best below average... on an insane over and above high price

@@noobslayerr9732 As I said, you can't compare them objectively, because they cater to different user bases and use cases. If one wants to f**k samples up in elaborate way and do it live there's no way X is better than OT, for example.
But I don't know why we're even arguing this? I never said OT is better than X, I actually also own MPC One and consider Force after the update that dropped yesterday. I only said that Mk1 versions of Electron gear are *beautiful* in terms of their looks and I stand by this, especially compared to X which looks like cash register ;) :D

8 years later and this is still your magnum opus. With all the emphasis on smaller more affordable devices from you lately I hope you haven't lost your way of creating innovative groundbreaking equipment like this. The Octatrack is my single favourite piece of equipment ever, my desert island machine if you will, and I hope you'll consider making a true successor one day. If there's any creation of yours that deserves to live on for another generation its this one!

I am not familiar with the octatrack yet but I would like to know if the machine is able to play 8 audio samples at the same time (and which need to start in sync) which are my 8 audio stems and last more than an hour in order to manipulate them singularly. Thanks in advance for the information.

I've sold all my other kit and in the process of buying an analog rytm and analog four.
There is a lot to learn but once you wrap your head around a few concepts it all starts to fall into place ... with some unexpected 'happy accidents' along the way!
The Octatrack sounds really good... gives a lot of charachter to your samples and is reassuringly built like a tank. (the build quality of the other gear I had was toy like in comparison).
I'm more than sold on it... very happy customer :)

I wanted to hear it record, trim and play a sample and then hear it get mangled, so that I could understand the audio mangling capabilities that it's so highly regarded for. Most of the mangling in this demo happened to sounds that were sequenced into a beat, making it difficult to distinguish between the sequencer capabilities and sampler engine capabilities.

    +Elektron
hello, I am getting pretty frustrated with the slice function @10.30. I notice on the elektron forums people have a similar issue. I follow the video exactly, with a clean loop edited right and loaded directly from a file, and when you create the slice grid, on a flex or static machine, the 'now I have trigs on the sequencer as you can see here' just doesn't happen. Nothing is put down on the sequencer, this means I have to add each linear trig manually? which is what a lot of frustated people were doing on the elektron forum.
I tried filling a bar with trigs and setting 'create linear locks' but this still doesn't solve the issue, depending on the size of the grid created, the loop never sounds the same.
I am running version 1.25E (updated to H just after writing this, no change)

@ jerry Garcia really it can't touch a mpc? Your right it can't touch it because it's way to high above it. Unless your talking about the mpc 4000 the previous mpc's were just phrase samplers with a decent sequencer. The octatrack is almost ableton live in a quick starting stable box with amazing on the fly editing ability. And as far as a rack mount what rack mount? There hasn't been a serious rack sampler made since around 2002. The screen doesn't need to be big because so much can be done with knobs and sliders. I got a lot of love for the mpc but damn as far as a sampler it comes nowhere near the crazy fast edits and sequencing tricks the octa does. Oh and the 32 megs of ram is sad and dated. Streaming samples of a card is the way to go

I admit - I was concerned about adapting to Elektron's workflow, but you seriously have to approach the product line with an open mind and leave the old baggage of gear-past at home. I think I am well over my earlier gripes and criticisms about the Elektron standard. I own a Machinedrum and an MPC ...the MPC is definitely not on the same page as the OT, hell not even in the same library!!!! They are both more than capable machines and each have their purpose, but where the MPC stops is where the OT powers up. People were dogging out the OP-1 as well...but it's another excellent device for creating ideas and concepts... and very mobile!! They're all tools with modular offerings, MPC for it's simplicity, OT with it's complexity and Ableton Live with providing the castle to move all your musical furniture into for finalization. I basically agree with you 10,000%. There is NOTHING out there like the OT.
Octatrack: It's where music boxes should have been many years ago.... but it's too bad that these gigantic companies like Akai, Korg and Roland string us along with a lot disappointing releases (some not so bad) that do not reflect, nor champion the true current state of technology we are experiencing today or piecing the veil of future sound shaping. This is heavy-duty musical computation meant for the "scienartist", not really for the tinkerer. I love these machines - they actually force you to learn how signal and synthesis are set up in a proper studio environment and they also stimulate and build a mental sharpness to get your music muscles in shape. I see it as evolution, so it's either evolve or dissolve!

If you mean the dubby chord, this is quite easy. U can use a sawtooth wave, dial down the filter cutoff, put a short envelope on filter cutoff so that the filter opens for a short period of time when you hit a note, add long reverb and play a chords.
      Reverb is key for this!

Only concern is at the tempo change / timestretching part at 04:00, the beats start to get fluttery and less punchy / less attack (especially as he speeds up)... Wonder if there are options to choose what kind of timestretch it does or formants or whtaever (like in Ableton)

It's impossible to timestretch without artifacts, not even in Ableton Live. You can't add audio content which isn't there to begin with.

Who is the man talking? If the music I hear coming from that box in this video is his, I would LOVE to hear some more of him!
