@teamcoalhapcharcoal True. However. It would be easier to learn especially for beginners. Plus since he has worked for Elektron for years, he has probably learned a lot of tricks and tips that others may not know.
I learn a lot from your videos. I'm impressed by how you've mastered the workflow on the Digitakt and many other devices. I'm convinced that it's more important to get good with the gear you have than to always be looking for something new.
Very true, I also give myself a cap on what I need, if I have one type of synth chances are I probably don’t need another that does the same thing but just slightly different, besides these days there are so many ways to shape sounds via pedals and daws that 9/10 times I can achieve my sonic goals by utilizing those. When considering new gear I like to ask myself three questions: do I have something that already does this? Will getting new gear enhance or limit my workflow? And is it something that is one of a kind. (Its the one of a kind ones that are usually the hardest to pass up) 😅
bro i just spent the last 7 hours holed up in a dark room hovering above my Digitakt 2 -- with great effort i was finally able to pry myself away and go outside for a minute but now you're dropping this. *sigh* back to work right after i cook dinner.!
Your videos are responsible for me (finally) diving in to Elektron gear - got my Digitakt II yesterday and I’m learning the “Elektron workflow” now. :) Have to say, really impressed with the user interface - considering how much is under the hood, it’s not nearly as painful to get around as say, the SP404 Mk II, which I also have.
Yea there is a “fear” that I think might be a bit overblown haha. It’s select the track/sound you want to edit, then what part of the sound? And repeat
Great video as always! Just got my DT2 back from repair. As someone who didn't like DT1, I am pleased about all the additions to the new version and think it's a keeper. Thanks for the 16 levels! I feel you probably had something to do with that being implemented…now all we need is a new SLICE machine ;) 🤫
I find it kind of hard to get any info regarding to trigger digitakt 2 from DAW midi-track. Is it possible to assign a midi channel that trigger all 16 tracks by using midi note on / off value? Or do we need to assign a separate midi channel for every track? Is 8 midi track assign the max limit?
thing does look much more powerful with stereo, filter modes, better trigegr control, additional pages, etc. waiting for now but kind of want to send it. thanks ricky t. I sold off my DT1 at a point because I was gelling with the daw but there relaly is nothing like that elektron level of mind bending creativity out there
I have been playing with a DG1 for a couple of days, on and off, i really enjoy the immediate control of things like LFO assign, and play direction, generally all the hands on control. 2 part question. 1, can you do everything that the DG2 does, but on the Push3? specifically controls of parameters ( to avoid buying gear) 2, if money wasnt an factor, is it worth getting the DG2 over the DG1? ( to allow buying gear) This would be my first Elektron box, and first Groovebox. I primarily just want to basement jam, i have little to no interest in doing DAW mixing/producing.
So dope, I’m seriously thinking about swapping my RYTM for a digitakt. Just seems like you can get way more creative with samples . Anyone got opinions on this ?
Any issues with samples lowering half a semi tone? I saw EZBOT talking about this last stream... Gotta show coming up and I have not ran into this bug but its got me shaking a little bit haha.
This happens when transferring samples over at a different sample rate! It happened to me on my Octatrack and I was so confused haha. My audio interface was set to 48k and I would drag and drop that onto my OT which was at 44k. to the sample would get stretched ever so slightly (about 1 semi-tone) The fix was to set my audio interface to 44k.
Effortlessly moves past HOUSE and goes straight into creating an awesome AMAPIANO track. Your signature vibe is like no other. Been waiting on this video. Blue flame, every time.
Around 12:55 it seems like you loop just the first page, if I understand correctly. How do you do that? I haven't figured that out yet on my machine :D
I have a question about the keyboard mode which seems like an MPC keygroup kinda thing. Can you set the polyphony to mono on the DG2 so you can use say 808’s without them running into each other?
Great video! Is anything in this video specific for the Digitakt II? I'm new to Elektron gear. So I am considering getting a second hand Digitakt oringal to see if I like it. But not sure...
how are you liking the new arp/midi arp, manual slicing, looper, internal battery, and polyphony? Oh wait, elektron didn't really do anything interesting i forgot

By the way thanks so much for your work here , very clean , elegant and inspiring. Cheers from Japan .
I love that you skip the 3 hours of finding the samples part 🤭 I use a drum machine as a source for my hardware compressors sidechains so I can just drop the kick when I want, either for effect by muting it at the source or removing it completely from the main mix by muting it at the mixer. Or both 😊
I've been trying to incorporate more house music lately and these videos are a huge inspiration, especially cause I use similar gear, the techniques transfer very nicely. Thx for this. P.s. that first chord sample was a prime lo fi dungeon synth patch if I've ever heard one (before the lfo's) 🤓🛡️🗡️
@@henrikfisch hey I feel you. I mean... Calling my music house music is like saying Alien was a movie about an orange cat trying to survive in space. But the more ideas I can cram in into a song the better, and there's something subtle and nuanced about slightly displaced claps and hats over a four on floor that house music does very very well. I have trouble putting my finger on it.
I hace the digitakt 2 but after painstakingly putting my library on there now I can not load any more sounds it’s over 52% full I can not delete files neither it’s like the drive just don’t respond and not had no messages back from support the transfer app fails and if I format the drive it has taken me over 4 days to fill up 10gb of files which on my Mpc would take minutes don’t know what to do is this an isolated issue with my drive
I really want a digitkt but it looks so dam difficult..I’ve had a play about in a shop but it was all set up already, I imagine if I was to get one box fresh it would be a nightmare trying to get the flow going ..
It is not. Everything is ready to play. Ricky's mastery may seems impressive, but you could do your music at a much lower pace/flow ans still get cool and inspiring results.
Yo Ricky and comment crew - why are more synth UA-camrs not using Push 3? Is it just price, or is there another reason nobody is really talking about it? Yes, not really a comparison to the Digi, but with stereo and more channels it's getting closer.
I am conflicted. I have an SP-404 MK2 that I am thinking of trading in for the Digikakt 2. Musically, it just feels like my style of music would be a better fit, especially for grooves like that one. Tune’s tight!
Nothing can compete with the SP404 in terms of sampling, mangingling, chopping, warping, effects, etc, especially after the 404 Day Update. Well except a computer/MPC. The issue is the SP404 M2 is a tank while the Digitakt is more of a motorcycle. Right now the Digitakt 2 is a little too lean. No ping pong loop, no slicing/chopping, no Overbridge, etc. But, many "synthfluencers" like Cuckoo have hinted that there some secret sauce under the hood with the Digitakt 2, ie a specialized audio SoC, and some very big updates could be coming so... I'd say hold on to the 404 for a bit and see where the Digitakt 2 ends up in 4 to 6 months in terms of support.
dope track, take an alpha juno man it is true brand and butter instrument for the type of house u make (and no it doesn’t sound 80s if you don’t play 80s tracks)
hmmmm I do remember wanting the Alpha Juno 2 for awhile but the programming of it is what threw me off. BUT THEN AGAIN! I use my Nord the most and the only "programming" I do on there is octave down or up haha

I'm fully convinced that Ricky's brain has more RAM than the devices he is using.
Just wait until the transition into full robot happens...
The average human brain has more than 20 million gigs of memory so I would hope so

Ricky, I have a really silly question. Could you make a record like Paul’s Boutique on the Digitakt 2? Or is that more Octatrack territory?
I have been playing with a DG1 for a couple of days, on and off, i really enjoy the immediate control of things like LFO assign, and play direction, generally all the hands on control.
2 part question.
1, can you do everything that the DG2 does, but on the Push3? specifically controls of parameters ( to avoid buying gear)

"amp down races" caught that 😂

what headphones are you using and how are they connected? bluetooth from the digitakt?
Sick beat nice to see you using a digitakt again too

What is the mic you used?
At 12:50 you could have also used the new velocity mode to get that hat effect! so many ways to work on the D2 and I love it. Great jam.
I JUST started using the velocity mod to decay on hats along with velocity to volume and it’s awesome

To answer my own question (I should RTFM more):
In GRID Recording mode -> HOLD Page button -> Select which page(s) to loop via TRIGs 9-16
I have a question about the keyboard mode which seems like an MPC keygroup kinda thing. Can you set the polyphony to mono on the DG2 so you can use say 808’s without them running into each other?
