    You handled the pine/kindle pretty much the same way I would have. The 17VS sure works sweet for precision cuts no doubt! Glad you have been able to run some other machines at these different events to help with your decision making. You'll know which machine and what time is right for you. Great video Todd!

      Thanks, Bill . I never would’ve thought a machine like this would be on my radar for future purchase plans. simply because of its size. After having this great opportunity to run it now it has kind of changed my mind😂 Coming from someone that likes very neat precise splits. It definitely fits my needs. It’s definitely on the radar for future. I would just have to figure out a way I could store it because I could not stand to see something like this set outside. I appreciate you, Obie.👊🏻

    Use any multi-wedge splitter and you’ll get plenty of kindling but it won’t be as pretty as what you were just making.

    That splitter is ideal for kindling and precise firewood. That was great that they let you borrow the splitter. It helps both of you. I person with a UA-cam channel I used to watch insinuated that I took advantage of Evan by trading him the log roller for the pickaroon at the Hoosier Hysteria. If you feel that way, let me know and I will make it right. I came to the Hoosier because I am a Vietnam Veteran and wanted to help but was pretty much ignored and was given no help. I still split several cords of wood with my little Timberwolf. Old people want to be useful but most of us can't do it alone.

    • @DanielAtkinsFirewood
      @DanielAtkinsFirewood 2 місяці тому +1

      Not to butt into the topic but if you are Evan are happy with the trade than I don't see anything wrong with that. But that's my thoughts on it.
      My Dad also served during Vietnam and he feels the same way. So from my Family to yours Thank you for your service. 😉👍

    • @toddsoutsideagain
      @toddsoutsideagain  2 місяці тому +1

      James Evan traded you that pickaroon out of the goodness of his heart after you told him that’s what you really wanted. I’m proud of him for that. Don’t worry about it. He actually came home with a pickaroon as well due to someone else’s good deed! As far as the Hoosier event I will admit some folks including myself was a little disappointed on your opinion of it. Everyone was just super busy and I don’t think anyone was trying to ignore and not help you. There was a lot of veterans there, including myself all with one goal in mind. To make as much Firewood possible for the members of the HCV Memorial Campground. We appreciated your help! Take care James👊🏻🇺🇸

    Our pine here smells sweet a few have called it sugar pine. Does your pine have a sweet smell to it when you split it?
    I guess since it's raining here, i could go over that and what i know about it.
    The kindling looks great, too..😉👍

    • @toddsoutsideagain
      @toddsoutsideagain  2 місяці тому +1

      Well it smells good it I’m not sure about sweet😂 It’s probably just the pitch in and around the limb areas putting of suet! The lower splits from the limbless log portion would probably burn pitch free? I burned some last night and even the splits that have retained bark was boiling sap out of the bark after two plus years😂 Makes great kindling though! Thanks for watching Daniel👊🏻

    The only thing keeping me from going to a vertical splitter is how well it would work on mobile splitting jobs. Would be awesome to get a VSC on loan to try it out. Unfortunately I'm way too far away from a dealer to make such a deal happen.

    • @toddsoutsideagain
      @toddsoutsideagain  Місяць тому +1

      Well it really doesn’t take much to run the jacks up and move it. I moved it with my Atv here in my woodyard. Allen at Club Dora said he towed his over 300 miles when he bought it and they tow very well.🤷‍♂️ Not sure if I helped but that’s just my opinion👊🏻

    • @thefirewooddoctor
      @thefirewooddoctor Місяць тому +1

      @toddsoutsideagain I'm thinking of maneuvering it in tight areas and stuff. The splitting job I did on Monday would've needed the rounds in a different spot than in between the trees on an atv trail. I'll have a better idea come June 22.

    Hey Todd. I wonder if the resins in your pine differ from other areas? I watch guys making fatwood for firestarter and our fatwood doesn't burn as good as theirs. The vertical is ideal for making kindling, they look like 12 inch pieces, perfect.

    • @toddsoutsideagain
      @toddsoutsideagain  2 місяці тому +1

      It very well could. And of course, everything with needles I call Pine. I’m not sure what variety this actually was. Maybe different varieties are different.
