The innrr velcro is for a tac belt. The insidd has a velcro line that keeps the pouches in place. And maxpedition being the makers of good outdoor/combat gear, it makes sence that its there.
I have a Nite Ize small keychain multitool from years it's black and it sits in my pocket with a lot of keys and there isn't even a scratch on it. good quality.
The velcro on the inside of the maxpedition keyper is for like riggers belts or belts of that sort like the SOE belts that have velcro on the inside of the belt for pouches and other gear it velcros to the inside of the belt and stays in place so you don't have to worry about it sliding around when you may need it.
I have several set-ups with different combinations of tools and keys but the one constant is the Leatherman carabiner (usually with a #0 S-Biner attached) which is always on a loop even when it isn't carrying a load. Thanks for an enjoyable video.
I used the maxpedicion key keeper for the narc box when I worked in ems, and I think the inside velcro is if you're running a duty belt or gun belt. I used a duty belt that had 2 belts, and the inner velcro attached to the outer belt that I just kept in place because around the station I'd take the outer belt off to take a nap on 24s or if I was sitting for long trips. That way my radio wasn't digging in my back.
Thank you for your detailed review. For various key systems. What is missing...another pair of pants with different belt system. Everybody wears not only jeans....
i also rock the maxpediton keeper. the velcro on the inner portion is for attaching to a rigger's belt. you can either cut it off with a seam ripper or just put another piece of velcro on the other side.
While this video is a little older, the Kershaw Jens carabiner is another cool one, I have been using it personally for about 2 months now. Can be found pretty cheap on Amazon. Another thing I have found nifty are eboot quick release keyrings. While adding some length and "jingle-jangle" to your setup, these things provide some serious functionality by letting you quickly detach your tools without having to mess with keyrings or hold your entire key setup either.
The Velcro on the inside is for use with tactical belts which have Velcro on the backside to keep the item in place it is commonly used on magazine pouches
at some point I was really into finding the perfect system now I just toss it in pocket but I really like that leather one and I do have a carabiner on it in case I need to secure it.Love the video
The extra piece of velcro on the Maxpedition is for if you use it on a belt that has a hook side liner on the inside of it. This is very common for duty belts etc. It keeps it from sliding around on a compatible belt.
I have a wad of keys for work and I’ve just used clips on my belt loop. Mine broke today so I think I’ll go home and forge something kind of similar to that bottle opener hook.
I don't know if anyone has answered you but that maxpedition keyper might have that velcro pad in the middle because a lot of duty belts have velcro on the inside so that it can attach to your inner belt and that allows you to put the keyper on the duty belt and ensure that it wont slide around, that would be my guess at any rate.
Some concealed carry belts offer velcro on the inside surface of the belt. The velcro on the inside of your keyper is to interface with velcro on the inside of those type belts.
1. Liked your video 2. Lots of good options but would like to see more that don't use the belt loop as primary anchor as i've ripped several belt loops in the past.
You can utilize the key fob, caribiner or ring of your choice BUT so you won't lose them, simply add a composite or metal Kubaton which you can slip IWB.
2.19 the extra bit of velcro hook inside the Maxpedition was intended to keep the system from sliding laterally on the belt or nylon strap its attached to. Yes it sucks and the hooks eat away at nylon strap over time. Not the brightest system, my recommendation is to find a different key retention system altogether.
I have a real classy key fob by Smathers & Branson, it's needle point stitched surrounded by leather and it's kind of expensive at about $30 but I enjoy it a lot
if you don't like the strong branding on fabric you can 'smoke your gear' with a permanent black marker, I do it on overly flashy backpacks and foot wear, works great and does not take too long, no cutting or removing
At present I am using a 3 inch long draperies clip (to make a pleat in curtains) as a pocket clip for my Victorinox and energizer high tech flashlight. Looking for a classier alternative pocket clip so my knife can dangle in the pocket. That Lindock leather key fob is impressive! Thank you.
I've had good luck with a brass non swivel sailing shackle, on my belt loop going into my back right pocket, string tied to a motorcycle/atv chain link. I only have 4 keys on there but they are the keys i need everyday. while my car keys are separate since i don't need them every day.
the piece of Velcro on the inside of the Maxpedition keychain so if you have an expedition belt or any other piece of gear and that might have the South Loop side
Cool cool cool ! I use several of the items in your video. I use a Dimon carabiner that I wear threw my belt and my belt loop ? I wish I can show pictures to get a better idea. Then I have a maintenance key ring uh I'm not sure if that what those are called ? I put a small key ring leash on the maintenance ring and a small ring on the other side were my key and key edc go. Pictures show better pictures of my key set up ?
I used to use the aircraft cable loops, but found two issues with them. One is that they will unscrew over time unless you use locktite, but locktite kind of ruins their functionality as far as quickly and easily opening them to give a mechanic a key or whatever. The second issue is that Ive had several that have the witness fray and super sharp needle-like strands will pole out and stab you, which is really painful and unsafe IMO. At that point I started to slide them within heat shrink tubing and heated that with a lighter and it tightened up around the cable and eliminated that problem. But the crew retention issue still existed. So then I found a new kind that Ive been using ever since without any of the problems and it looks very similar, but instead of a threaded end, it has a small ball on one end and a slit socket on the other and you need to position the ends of the cable into a heart shape to get the ball to fit into the socket and there is virtually zero chance of that happening on its own and I have never had a problem with either issue since. I get them on Amazon or eBay under the same category as "aircraft cable key ring"in their search window.
Good vid...having just received my new Alien Gear 14oz gunbelt that is a bit thicker than the 511 trainer belts that I usually wear ---I needed a key fob that would fit (belt clip was too thin) so I picked up a Maxpedition Keyper. It works great...but being a big gearhead I don't mind the giant logo --LOL
My belt has a lot of holes in it. I put a very large ring in one of the holes. I use a crab claw to to hang my keys to it. The key ring then sits on my side but in my pocket. Then I do not have a large lump that makes noise when I walk or bump into something.
The Maxpedituon is nicely made but it's over €30 here and the biggest problem is getting the keys off it. As you press the hook your thumb covers the opening. Very arkward. I went back to a traditional slide hook like you find on a dog leash.
I always have used standard cheap carabiners but the springs wear out on them so I switched to the nite ize s-biner slidelock #4 and so far so good. I like the slide lock because it is a nice backup if the spring fails.
I've tried the aircraft cables as well and had constants problems of loosening up. The knurling provided enough grip that simply light rubbing against my pants from walking, sitting, and moving caused it to loosen up on a regular basis that is needed to be tightened regularly. This caused me to abandon this design as well, though maybe mine was possibly worse than others.
It's a legitimate concern for sure, I went with the Vigilant Gear cables specifically because they had better review about staying screwed together and not fraying. They need to be check up on probably once a week. A lot of guys use blue loctite which is a solid option if you're never unscrewing the cables, but I change things up enough so that option isn't one for me. Thanks for your comments!
I've gone to titanium key rings but I remember that after I tried the screw together cable, I went to another type of cable which you would twist and bend the whole cable to lock and unlock it and that never failed. It had some sort of plastic rubber tubing around it which also prevent the cable from fraying. If you want a cable option as a key ring, that is a better design. Now it sits holding a tag marking first aid on my vehicle first aid kit because it was red.
I've had S-Biners fail on me in that when they get twisted and then pulled or pressed against something, belt loops will slide out of the wire gate. Multiple times my keys fell off getting in and out of vehicles or loosened to the point that when I'm walking I'll hear my keys fall on the ground behind me. After this happened enough to the point where I could predict when they would fail, I bought a Mas Design Kickstarter carabiner, though multiple other ones in this video are more viable in my opinion than the S-Biner. I still use S-Biners for other things but I work around that weakness. I hope other learn from my experiences.
Yeah the one I'm waiting on is the new Kickstarter Handgrey Bottle Opener Titanium Carabiner. Its made by the same guy, Sunny, and its a better design than my current one he made. Hopefully it will arrive this month after he finishes them by hand. I prefer the design even to the custom Anso ones. A lot less expensive as well.
Nice video. I have been looking for a different way to carry my keys for a while. Haven't found anything yet. All those hooks are way to bulky for me. I do like the look of that puter hook type. But anyway, you might have a look at my video on suspension clips and making them. Very inexpensive and it really works very well. Just a thought. ATB Mark.
Doesn't seem like any of those options would allow you to remove one key independently. I have two large key fobs and a couple house keys and a midnight manager all on crab claw hooks similar to yoru SAK shown. I hook them each to one large split ring and hang it on carabiner i can remove keys independently from each other however the entire set up is rather bulky and large and im trying to find a way to slim it down and lighten it up
argh. i was hoping you introduce us to the tiny carabiner on the swiss knife that we see throughout the video. can anyone point me to a dependable version on these?

LOVE THIS VIDEO! I just bought the Friendly Swede paracord clip. Very excited about it. I am tired of my monkey fist and wanted a good alternative. I was going to to back to my Snake Bite snake hook, which I love, but I get tired of people asking me why I have 2 knives on me. Also when I am in places where I am not allowed to have a knife, I get stopped a lot with it because, again, people think it is a knife.
I've been using a victorinox stainless steel belt hanger with chains for over a year now and I'll never use anything else. Best 13.99 a guy can spend. I use mine for a swisschamp and a small flashlight but keys would be right at home on it.

I have a giant bright lanyard with my picture ( people recognize my face and hand me my keys), nickname ( cashiers over loud speaker" pepper" we found your keys or cell phone), phone number, & email.... tiny invisible under garment fannypack... also my face, email, & "reward" is my Screensaver in my lock cell phone
Thus is ass backwards why they hell put keys on your belt to just put them in your pocket I put them on my belt to get them out ny pocket because I already have to much shit in my pockets

Bob Besco Thanks for your time!
I've had the same NiteIze Ahhh for the last like 5 or more years. Hasn't failed me yet. Bottle opener works great. I friggin love it
I’ve been using a buckledown key holder for 5 years. I just added those small s biner #2 from Nite Ize to be able to attach and detach keys easy/fast.
I used the maxpedicion key keeper for the narc box when I worked in ems, and I think the inside velcro is if you're running a duty belt or gun belt. yeah you revived it in me too lol

I greatly enjoy that kind of craftsmanship, sometimes you need to spend a little to get something special.
if you don't like the strong branding on fabric you can 'smoke your gear' with a permanent black marker, I do it on overly flashy backpacks and foot wear, works great and does not take too long, no cutting or removing
The Okay's Key Safe is what I use everyday. It goes right on my belt, and hold my keys securely.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing
It's for webbing belts that velcro sticks to, or if you are using Molly webbing made of velcro or similar

Thanks so much for making this video, a big problem solved.....keep up the great work...
With the Maxpedition fob, I’m with you on logo size. Would it not work with the logo facing the body?
What about between the carabiner and split ring? What is the best choice there? Chain? Velcrow? Paracord? Or something else?
Excellent video. Exactly the info i needed. Well done, sir!
Thanks for watching!

I had the same issue with my S biner, so i clip my keyring to both top and bottom clips, unconventional but solved the issue
I agree the branding is too large and not very fashionable so remove it with a stitch remover.
Good idea
The Velcro on the inside is for Velcro police belts so the key chain doesn't slide anywhere
1k GAW SENT ME HERE.
Use a touch-up paint pen (color of your choice) to paint over the big/obnoxious Maxpedition logo.

Carabiners are the best looking for me.Roadeavour also has some good carabiners,
Great idea for a video and great options!
Glad you like it! It was fun collecting this stuff and putting it together. I'm still exploring, what works for you?
I'll have a video in about a week with my collection, lol ;)-
Living Survival
Cool, looking forward to it!
I also love my Victorinox belt key holder...
Great suggestion! Thanks for watching!
Doesn't seem like any of those options would allow you to remove one key independently. I have two large key fobs and a couple house keys and a midnight manager all on crab claw hooks similar to yoru SAK shown. I hook them each to one large split ring and hang it on carabiner i can remove keys independently from each other however the entire set up is rather bulky and large and im trying to find a way to slim it down and lighten it up
argh. i was hoping you introduce us to the tiny carabiner on the swiss knife that we see throughout the video.
can anyone point me to a dependable version on these?
is there such a key retractor you can use while driving, I mean the key is attached to the retractor that is hooked on your belt ?

Do you know about the CRKT Viva? I think the lanyard hole could fit a key ring and keys.👍👍👍
+Xavier So interesting suggestion! 👍
What's the brand/seller for the tiny carabiner/ring on the Victorinox? I'm trying to find that style. I will be snagging an Infini-Key. Great vid.
The SAK Classic take off the scales and flip them 180, then the tweesers and toothpick are up.

Idk what kind of spell your tryna cast but it's not welcome here
the maxpedition keyper looks like its made with nylon belts in mind, not leather ones.
thanks

do not buy the infiniloop by niteize. just lost my keys using this.
Me too. Because of the way in which it can flex, the two sides can become unaligned, causing the clip to inconsitently engage ...resulting in lost keys.

What do you think about keybars?
They look great, but they're a bit too bulky for me.
and they are way too expensive
I can't for the life of me make sense of why someone would need these everyday, unless you're travelling.

Ask your wife to borrow a seem riper and remove the maxpedition logo
I have a giant bright lanyard with my picture ( people recognize my face and hand me my keys), nickname ( cashiers over loud speaker" pepper" we found your keys or cell phone), phone number, & email.... tiny invisible under garment fannypack... also my face, email, & "reward" is my Screensaver in my lock cell phone
Thus is ass backwards why they hell put keys on your belt to just put them in your pocket I put them on my belt to get them out ny pocket because I already have to much shit in my pockets
