Just ordered my titanium key loop largely as a result of your review. Also looked into the company and its founder in their UA-cam channel. This is the type of company I appreciate and enjoy supporting. I know both their mechanical pencil and pen will be my next purchases from them.
I would recommend tying a figure 8 stopper or a diamond knot if it will fit in the carrier; many knots don't hold well in Dynema. Great video as usual, and its given me some ideas on how I could improve my own key carry solution!
I’ve never commented on your videos before Jon but I’ve watched so many of them. Usually when I’m looking for a review I can trust on a particular edc item I’ll search it then find your take on it. In this instance I don’t think this is for me but I love your delivery and production each and every time. You’re my EDA. Every day advisor 👍🏻❤️
I like the facts that you have pointed out on orbitkey and bellboy products for non-flat keys users. Most of the review didn’t mention much or didn’t mention at all. As such, I have bought an orbitkey to regret later. I’m from Malaysia also experiencing this problem. The recommended product is great maybe will get it in the future.
A nice simple and elegant solution. I also couldn't quite find exactly what I wanted so I made my own key organiser a couple of years ago and it's a combination of the orbitkey, Bellroy and Keysmart's option. It mostly resembles the Bellroy in the sense that it's a simple leather fold. I then put 15mm brass button stud screws at each end. I purposely bought a cheap metal key organiser to scrounge the spacers and metal key loop to connect other stuff. I can have all my flat keys at one end, then the complicated stuff at the other. I made it shorter than two key lengths and use the spacers so the keys can overlap like a penknife. Lastly, I put a micro s-biner on the key loop so I can quickly attach things like car keys or other temporary items. It's not perfect but I really like it. There's also potential to store stuff in the fold of the leather under the keys. In fact KeySmart does the Ultimate accessory pack which almost has everything you need apart from the leather and the other sides of the studs, plus the key loop doubles up as a bottle opener!
THANK YOU for spreading the word - keys outside of America are not flat and uniform!!!!! Truly, every solution didn't work for me so far because I have 4 completely different keys. So I really like that you show something different than others. The choice of UHMWPE is also cool as it gets out there this material that I think we should see more of in the EDC community. Actually I have the materials lying around at work... Might make something similar to myself to check it out! Another great one, Sir. Keep them coming and take care!
Actually not all keys in the U.S. are flat either. And then we add flashlights, small knives and whatnot. BTW, Jonathan - am concerned for the security at your office if that is the key! Are you leasing from Charles Dickens? 🤣🤣🤣
@@ELaster1 @Eyal Laster Well I haven't really looked myself. As I said I didn't know I needed a new keyring unti I saw Jon's review. Hi Jon, love your videos! As a motorcyclist, having a bunch of keys jingling often scratches the tank. So in search of finding something that allows keys to be easily removable I settled on the FreeKey keyring after doing a bunch of research. Very similar to a regular keyring but even easier than this system to remove and add keys! Hi Trevor - great suggestion - I have one here which I have had for years and it does work well - about as compact as you can get - I might have to revisit it.....
Really interesting product and excellent review, Jon. If I may suggest something, Dyneema blunts blades in no time so a good idea is to use a disposable razor style cutter like a Stanley knife or box cutter - a much cheaper option than SAK scissors!
Hello from the U.S. Jonathan! Always enjoy your content. I watched this one twice and thanks to your use of chapters, parts of the video 3-4 times. Changing keys in and out is not something I do. Adding or exchanging keys happens much less than once a year. Key set has been pretty static for the last 15 years. I have been satisfied with my current setup with double split rings joined by a quick release post all that time. Now you've done it and shown me something I didn't know I needed! I do really like over-engineered precisely manufactured unique items of elegantly simple design and these certainly tick all those boxes. I wasn't sold until you showed the cache actually. That's something I don't have now. Are you confident that the o-ring/threaded closure will not loosen up with constant use? My quick release has been maintenance free and secure lo these many years. In fact I have one small key that has inexplicably come off one of the split rings in my pocket a couple of times, but the quick release has never worked its way apart. Will visit the quickstarter site for details but wonder if you know if they will sell additional super cord and replacement O-rings? I'm fairly certain I'll cut the cord at the "wrong" lengths. Will do test runs with regular string, but still would like additional cord on hand. Also hope they forego collecting VAT for non-Brits. As for what to carry in the cache, I'd need a fist-sized cache for my meds 🙄. I don't do cocaine. Maybe a cyanide pill in the event of capture behind enemy lines? I wonder if the tiny eyeglasses screwdriver that fits in the corkscrew of a SAK might fit in the cache along with a couple of screws? Gentle observation - the black cord was hard to see against black table surface and your black shirt - hence rewatching some chapters. Something to consider in the future. BTW, I also enjoyed your EDC flashlight videos. Missed seeing a Rovyvon added to this keyring. Is this keyring your EDC now? ATB!
Thanks for the detailed feedback and thanks for being part of the journey. Quality is very good with this item and the Company cares. Reach out to them via their website and ask the questions, I am sure they will be supportive. You get a meter of the cord and I am sure they will make spares available. This won’t work loose in use as O ring helps hold it in place. Black on black was not ideal as you point out will definitely be careful to avoid this in the future. My pocket EDC is the A8x. Not on key ring but use KeySmart hanger. The A28 is for a pouch setup. Thanks again for the great feedback 👍
I use a small wire-gate carabiner and change my setup on the fly. My keys are all flat with a Victorinox classic on a ring together. If I need car keys I also clip them to the carabiner. Easy to get in and out.
I've got a similar little pot and I keep aspirin in there! I don't need it myself but if I come across someone having a heart attack it could save their life, chewing a couple can increase survival chances a fair bit while you wait for an ambulance. I think it helps the blood flow more easily :)
You can DIY this yourself with thick shoelace connectors (some have openings up to 4mm) and any rope/cord of your choice. Would cost like $10, if that.
I made exactly this with one side being the same 2mm UHMWPE Dyneema cord, and the other side being 3mm elastic cord with cinching beads for extra funtionality.
My keys are also mixed: flat, not flat, small, large etc. I carry the keys hanging in my pocket. The key ring is too wide. The cable tie is oval so almost perfect. Wingback is sympathetic. You can do it at home: only one loop needs to be tied. What kind of material would be good for it?
This is really an excellent review and a lot of what you said resonated with me. I did end up ordering this to give it a try. Another solution that seems very compelling but doesn't have many reviews on YT is the Distil Union KeyLoop. I might have to try that myself but would love to see you review it along with some of their other accessories like the wallet. It seems like Orbit key with magnets which makes it very easy to pick and choose what keys you take with you. And since they have adhesive options for adding a magnet to your keys, it might help with everything oddly shaped keys.
@@JonGadget I have a bit of a pouch obsession. I currently carry a Maxpedition Micro around with me, usually in the side pocket of my backpack or in the back pocket of my jeans, I've got all sorts of bits n pieces in it that might come in handy
I really like the idea. I’m wondering if one could still use a key clip with it. I used to have a true utility cash holder which I ended up using as a salt pot to take with my lunch. 😂
can you do a video on your MINI?? i have one too, she’s a 2009 lightning blue metallic MINI cooper S. love that car so much, it really makes me look forward to driving more than any other car would
Interesting product and great video on it. I'm currently using the Orbitkey for my keys because they are all flat and I have done for many years now. However the car key issue is so frustrating. Started to experiment with a carabiner on the belt and it works well, however there are issues. Namely the whole thing is clunky and lacks the efficiency. Been trying to figure out the solution and I think I have come up with a near perfect (for me) system and those products may just be the final piece of the puzzle.
It would be cool if somebody made a holder for the fob that goes on your belt that kind of holds it in a horizontal orientation along the top of your belt and it could either be inside of a little Velcro enclosure made if nylon so you could depress the buttons to lock/unlock. Then you can keep the other keys separate
Too much faffing about for my liking. (Yep, I’m a Brit too 😂) I use the Kappa quick release, although they still need split rings. Very strong, won’t just fall apart, BUT the best thing is, I just pull it apart to use my car key so I don’t have all of my keys hitting my right knee as I’m driving (this really does my head in). I do like the little cache though for the notes, but yeah our polymer notes are so annoying. Thanks for the very informative video Jon! Appreciate it 🙂👍🏻
A small upgrade to the sting part would be some sort of draw sting to keep them in a tight place & won’t allow them to come loose. Thanks for your video.. sadly I’ve just bought the KeySmart MAX which I’ve spent all even trying to put my keys together & it lets me very frustrated & looking for an alternative.
The abrasion resistance of dyneema cord is greatly exaggerated. I used dyneema in my hammock rig and it just couldn't handle the constant chafing against metal carabiner.
nope - only keys - I use Keysmart pocket hangers for Compact and Rovyvon a8x - I don't carry keys inside the house but I need knife and flashlight all the time
@@JonGadget do you keep the knife and flashlight on the same hanger or do you have one for each? Thanks. Your videos are great. I switched to the rovyvon and like it (not love). i have been carrying a cadet for years but do experiment w other blades. I keep coming back to the cadet. Thanks.
@@yosef6216 Hi Yosef - one hanger for each - let me know if you find an alternative to the a8x - for compact and lightweight and features I've not found anything better yet 👍
Great video, great idea, great design. That said, @$50ea they can kick rocks. There is absolutley no justification for that price tag. Such a shame, I really wanted it.
I am in Germany and don't have just flat keys. I'm from the Netherlands and lived in many apartments that had at least one key that wasn't flat. So it's not just a UK problem.
Paracord and a lanyard knot… if you want to get fancy, add a lanyard bead. If changes are needed, a small piece of inexpensive paracord and you have a new set up.
Love it i really like this idea definitely going to pick up this By the way how have you been getting on with the Leatherman bond thanks for sharing this fantastic 👍🏻
Thanks for the feedback 👍 Not used Leatherman Bond in anger yet. I am lucky in that I have quite a few options. For basic legal carry the PST II is hard to beat, but no longer available. Same with Sideclip.
Great gadget Jon, but looks very sturdy. I always have £10 stashed that saved me numerous times. I didn't see flash light or you have it in the leather pouch, I guess? Please take your medication, don't explode 😁👍. Sorry for the late view I was away. Cheers.
Hi John! I just wanted to note that someone determined can easily create a working copies of your keys based on the video. I would recommend taking this video down. Or changing locks
I carry the yellow plastic egg from a Kinder Surprise for my medications (like headache meds, diarrhea meds). One sort of medication, one egg^^ of course I've marked them accordingly
I also detest the split rings for keys - clunky and such a pain to change. I found a nite ize slide lock s - biner, maybe size M to work best with my current keys. Bigger security keys or car keys, bicycle keys... all fit on there and I store it in a small leather pouch for keys. Split ring free!
I love the idea of the key loop downfall though I’m just a kid so I don’t have tons of money also when looking at the website all of the stuff that is black titanium is sold out unfortunately and that would be the color I’m interested in sadly because of all the other things on my key ring are black
It depends if you want to know more about dyneema, the cash stash, etc. I put chapter markers in all vides so people can skip what they don't want to see.
I've been watching EDC videos for a while now. I've spent money on so many wallets and pocket knives, torches (flashlights) etc and then I realised it's all nonsense. You can solve (or manage) most of these issues easily. Buy a set of Chicago screws and fasten your keys together. Buy a small pencil case and put all you cables and shit in there.
That will unscrew over time. I have small O-ring sealed containers on my keychain for ear plugs they always unscrew even the high end ones. As for dyneema I’ve had years of working with it it’ll look tatty after having keys rubbing against it. I think back to the drawing board for a redesign.
7 keys, decorative token, car key fob, stash cash for emergency pills, and a Leatherman PS4… all in a leather bell pouch. As I don’t need all of those keys all the time, I decided the duplicate the 3 essential keys and put them in a low cost KeySmart, attaching the stash cash and PS4 separately on a micro s biner clip, and switch it from the bell pouch to essential keys as necessary. The KeySmart post became loose in the scales and in taking it apart, one scale was broken! Parts kept for a possible DIY version when I find the right material for the scales… the DIYer in me is thinking of an Orbit style key holder from an unused leather belt and stainless cabinet connector, lying there as you do as an insomniac 🥴
Kind of disappointing... I was hoping to find something like the Orbit, KeySmart, etc. but for the big keys we have in the UK. But this is just another keyring, just dyneema instead of a ring. :(
i love a lot of your stuff... but the key loop.... the key loop... works exactly the same as a piece of string but with more effort needed, and costs more than getting a new key cut every time you need one..
I’m not sure how well this will do. It’s nicely engineered. However Far Eastern suppliers are renowned for producing nicely machined widgets at low cost. I can see copies of these retailing for less than a fiver on eBay and Amazon. Without any other hard to reproduce qualities there is no reason to spend this much. It’s going to be a hard sell.

nope - only keys - I use Keysmart pocket hangers for Compact and Rovyvon a8x - I don't carry keys inside the house but I need knife and flashlight all the time
@@JonGadget do you keep the knife and flashlight on the same hanger or do you have one for each?
Where did you buy the FOB from?
Hi Cory - which FOB?
What watch are you using in that video?
Garmin Instinct Solar - review due!
Where i can buy this? I can't even find it in their website
Check out the link in the video description to the Kickstarter campaign - it’s a brand new item.
How can i get one of these in the US? Also, are there other companies that make a similar design. Having a hard time gettin my hands on one of these.
Great video, great idea, great design. That said, @$50ea they can kick rocks. There is absolutley no justification for that price tag. Such a shame, I really wanted it.
Well when you use one of those old keys from the 1800s you’re bound to run into some snags.😜
yes - that's England for you 😁
Love your channel. I also spend quite some $$$ on EDC
😁🙏 thanks for the kind words
I am in Germany and don't have just flat keys. I'm from the Netherlands and lived in many apartments that had at least one key that wasn't flat. So it's not just a UK problem.
Paracord and a lanyard knot… if you want to get fancy, add a lanyard bead. If changes are needed, a small piece of inexpensive paracord and you have a new set up.
Orbit teamed up with Chipolo and have their own slimmer version of the tile
"Stronger than steel"
Proceeds to cut with mini scissors 😂
weight for weight!
Great soloution
I been using
Keysmart 14 keys
I’ve seen your home key a lot. Do you live in a pirate’s treasure chest? What kind of lock goes with that key. It’s driving me crazy.
I hope I can get one of these delivered to the U.S.
you can I believe - but shipping costs can be high
Great gadget Jon, but looks very sturdy. I always have £10 stashed that saved me numerous times. I didn't see flash light or you have it in the leather pouch, I guess? Please take your medication, don't explode 😁👍. Sorry for the late view I was away. Cheers.
Hi Storn 😃 good to hear form you. Flashlight is in pocket (with pocket hanger) with Vic Compact.
Hi John! I just wanted to note that someone determined can easily create a working copies of your keys based on the video. I would recommend taking this video down. Or changing locks
Niteize microlock s-biners + Victorinox small key rings do the job for me
I carry the yellow plastic egg from a Kinder Surprise for my medications (like headache meds, diarrhea meds).
A bit of high tech string for keys. Does this need 18 minutes?
It depends if you want to know more about dyneema, the cash stash, etc. I put chapter markers in all vides so people can skip what they don't want to see.
@@JonGadget I guess I value brevity, succinctness and time but then they couldn’t cram in four sets of adverts.
@@brendanrussell3372 good point 😃
This is great content. Thanks for sharing new creative and logical EDC items. Sub!!
Thank you George and welcome to the channel.
Your comment about you exploding made me laugh our loud.
😀 that makes me happy
Lol, what kind of house key is that? 12th century castle?
A bit to long for my taste but a nice concept. Thanks for the work
I agree, it was a bit!
Nice idea.
hum I like this, it is simple and it works, damn it I need to buy this!
"15 times stronger than steel"
*cuts with pocket knife scissors*
Just found that funny lol
I think weight-for-weight is a key factor 😁
@@JonGadget of course lol, I use dyneema myself in some things, it was just a funny juxtaposition :)
EHAT EYEGLASSES ARE THOSE?!?
My normal glasses are Dita (is that what you mean?)
Not as much fun though 😃
@@JonGadget I suspect you're right Jon. It can be an expensive hobby (if you can call it that). Great videos though.
Thanks@@ThorntonValiant much appreciated.
"15x stronger than steel"
*proceeds to snip it like paper*
nice one!
That will unscrew over time. I have small O-ring sealed containers on my keychain for ear plugs they always unscrew even the high end ones. As for dyneema I’ve had years of working with it it’ll look tatty after having keys rubbing against it. I think back to the drawing board for a redesign.
Yeah remember that dynema is low friction. So a normal knot may just slip.
Love it but not the expensive price tag!
i love a lot of your stuff... but the key loop.... the key loop... works exactly the same as a piece of string but with more effort needed, and costs more than getting a new key cut every time you need one..
it is strange but it just feels really nice - still using mine....
I know what you mean - I do think they will only jump on it if they see it selling in volume
