You are the MAN for doing all these diffuser tests. I too have been trying to score the most perfect diffused setup, but haven't been able to afford try too many things. I REALLY appreciate you taking one (or two!) for the team, and trying them out for me.
You are very welcome! Its a fun hobby for sure. I just wish these were not so expensive. At some point I'm for sure going to try doing a DIY version of this and see how it turns out!
What a find! Looks like a product for commercial use, but works so well for domestic use too. The diffusion looks so good too, passing light all the way through. I''ve been having ideas to create some similar as fascia boards for our porch and this product may enable that into fruition. Thanks for the share and cant wait to see what you plan on doing with them next!
They really do look amazing! So many possible applications! Looks like they sold out of them already. Hopefully a re-stock will be coming soon! Thanks for watching!!
I've been doing the edge lit plexi since the late 90's. However, I did not have access to a new molded aluminum channel to house it so it was also rather tacky looking or made of wood. The advent of formed channel aluminum for this mod makes it well worth buying. Glad someone finally adapted it for acrylic.
Yeah the aluminum channel is really what makes this shine. I'm currently trying to make a diy version of it using wood and discovering what you have already known for a while now lol. Its hard to make it look good using wood lol. Thanks for watching!
@@ChrisMaherDIY Whats the concern with wood? just an aesthetics thing or is it a reflective properties thing if its the latter couldnt you just use a bezel? instead of using the wood structurally? and if its the former, same deal, structural wood and then cover it with a more aesthetically pleasing bezel
@@MrTeathyme If I were to guess, I'd imagine it has to do with the size? Aluminum channel maintains a small form factor, and I would imagine that wood would be quuite bulky? Source: none
Do you know the specs of the edge lit plexi, I want just the panel in order to cut it in different shapes. If you have a recommendationfor a plexi let me know
Being a PC modder obsessed with RGB lights, these open up a lot of new ideas to go with my custom liquid cooling loop and PC case itself. Especially with my 360mm x 120mm flat, clear reservoir. It's a EKWB EK-Quantum Volume FLT 360 Reservoir, for reference. I'd leave an Amazon link, but UA-cam likes to randomly delete comments that have them.
I love looking at the crazy setups people come up with for their PC builds! That's awesome! I've also heard from a few other people as well that if they leave a link it gets deleted. I have no idea why!
@@ChrisMaherDIY, I have a few uploads of an older PC of mine on my channel you might want to check out. It's got quite a bit of RGB. It was my first lighting PC project. There's some custom cooling, too. I need to upload some new stuff.
I was thinking something like this would look amazing in a case mod - might have to work on something for this as I have a couple cases this would look perfect in.
My friends and I have started looking into LEDs for our "gamer house", and your channel is an absolute GODSEND for us. Thank you for making the content that you do!
Thanks so much for watching and glad you are liking the videos! Hopefully you are documenting the game house setups because that would be awesome to see how it all comes together! Thanks for all the kind words!
Not sure if you just do it because it is quicker, but you can cut off the white heat shrink, and de-solder the existing wiring instead of cutting off and wasting the first and last LED on every strip. Love your content.
Yes! That's what i do, don't cut the whole led off when you can cut the wire, that's just so wasteful. esp if you are soldering them together anyway. also long term the tape is very important on these as its thermal tape. it will help the leds run cooler and thus last longer.
Thanks so much for watching! lol yeah that's just me being lazy and trying to save time. I have done exactly what you have described in the past and its not very difficult but having to do it to about 5 strips on both sides did not seem fun!
Wow!! THANK YOU!! 😁😁 Not only was I going to enquire about your favorite diffuser, was actually going to suggest, time and finances permitting, a kind of "Best To Install" diffuser video less than a week ago.... It's unfortunately STILL on the online Todo list, BUT, at #2 😅 Again, fantastic content my friend! And I huge shout-out to your wife, as I'm perfectly aware of how much support she's gotta put in for this series to output the way it does! 😁 Cheers!!
Great timing!! Thanks so much buddy and appreciate it! Thanks for all the support. Lol fortunately my wife has been amazing with how messy the house looks during some of these projects. She's a saint!
I’m wanting to use these but was curious how they look if you put two of the diffusers side by side. Are you able to see a seam in the lighting pattern or does it stay seamless? Have you done this before?
That's a great question! I should do a follow up video at some point. They are machine cut with precision so when they are butted up next to each other they are practically seamless unless you get super close to them.
@@ChrisMaherDIY thank you. I have some coming which I’ll be placing side by side. Hoping it’s not to noticeable. Thanks for posting that video. I’m doing a project and was kind of scratching my head on how to proceed with LED lighting. Those diffusers are just what I was looking for. Ordered them right after I saw your video. 👍🏼
@@ChrisMaherDIY and how do you wire them up when going long distance? At some point the LEDs need too much power and you can’t feed them all from one or two ends
@@p__jay if you go to 0:34 in the video, you can see there are 2 "slots". you use the top slot for the LEDs and run a four conductor 22 gauge ribbon cable in the bottom. im thinking you could use the channel itself as the negative and all four conductors of the ribbon cable as the positive. four 22 awg wires are equivalent to one 16awg wire.
Thanks so much! That would look really nice! If I knew these existed a while back, I would have probably tried using them someone on my board and batten accent wall video!
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! I still try to respond to every comment! I'm sure I've missed a few here and there but its the least I can do! Thanks buddy and hope you had a great weekend!
I think something about half the height of this installed near the ceiling with white adjustable color temperature LEDs would be a great subdued led light strip. Program it to adjust color temp throughout the day
New comer to the channel here! Thank you Chris for the tutorials/how to videos, as well as different project ideas. I just renovated my basement and will be taking on a beginner project. Can't wait!!
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! You are certainly welcome. I definitely enjoy doing it! That sounds like such a fun project and i'm sure a million different ways you could add some fun lighting to the basement! Let me know how it turns out!
Lol I still want to get into a big led Christmas display outside but that is just a project that's on a whole other level that i'm not ready for. Maybe someday!
Yeah, its tough to find things that are available all across the world. I think Muzata is mainly selling in the US and Canada. Hopefully they will expand and make it more affordable in different countries because they really do have some awesome products!
im doing one of ur older diys with the corner acrylic piece but on the corner of my wall to ceiling. wish i woulda found these before bc that is so much cleaner
That's so cool you made it yourself! Lol yeah I wish I would have found these earlier as well! I'm honestly not sure though when they came out. Maybe they just came out recently and would not have even been available at the time. Thanks buddy!
Yeah that animation I thought turned out super cool looking as well! I think it was the fire animation on WLED if I remember correctly. Thanks for watching!!
Hello Chris, I would like to begin by expressing my admiration for your fantastic videos. Your projects are so well executed that I could not have done them any better myself. Secondly, I would be thrilled to see a video from you about Hyperion/HyperHDR. And sorry for my bad english, I'm not a native speaker
Thanks so much for watching and I appreciate the support! That is for sure on my list of projects I would like to attempt. I've watched a few videos on it already and it looks amazing!!
Great! I’ve used silicone, epoxy, and acrylic in different lights. Putting 2 strips in a V-channel facing each other, but staggered one LED, makes a smooth blend too.
With some slightly slimmer channels, i'd say they would make some fancy door/window trim (or trim for the entire upper section of the wall). For me i'm thinking about covering up a whole wall with them, behind the seats. Great video, keep up the good work.
Chris, those look great! I'm wondering if it is possible to cut the acrylic in an arch shape to 'update' an triple arched antique Brunswick bar to look more Art Deco? Thanks.
My gears have been turning too! So many cool things you could make using this! Its a bummer its so expensive but I think the acrylic is the majority of the cost.
these look really cool, got the gears turning for an updated version of my beer tap handle, but it'd also be interesting to see how they hold up if the channel and acrylic are cut at an angle
I'm wondering the same thing! I have many ideas and some would require them to be cut! My guess is they will cut just fine but I would still be a little nervous to try! lol.
I admire the high quality of your videos! Just one note, in the video you mention that you get two of the channels per box, but the link you furnished goes to a product with only one diffuser channel. $55 for the one and $99 if you want two. Not a complaint. I know things change rapidly on Amazon.
Oh my goodness you are right! Thanks so much for letting me know. I just updated the links. My sincere apologies and thanks again for catching that! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
@@oneiros1401 ohh bummer! My guess is they must not be available in your country. Looks like it's still available in the US. What country are you from?!
Thanks so much for watching! I really don't have a good reason other than the ones that come with the strip just seem so thin and someone once said using thicker wires is safer. I have no idea if that is true or not!
Hello Chris.. AMAZING VIDEO!! i know this was posted some time ago.. Where can i find these panels today? i can't seem to find these ones on Amazon anymore. Thanks
Interesting... they could make excellent under cabinet soft lighting, as traditional strip channels are narrow (~1/2-3/4" wide) and more directional. These could be better.
WOW, what a find, that is an awesome effect, and immediately I am rethinking a part of my lounge, in particular the gap at the bottom of the cupboards, I was planning on just the strips stuck underneath shining down but this would look amazing, I would have to spray the aluminium black to fit in with the cupboards and although it would take away some of the reflecting I still think it would look better. Hope your well 👍🏻
I know what your saying! If I saw this product earlies, I more than likely would have tried using it at the bottom of my board and batten accent wall design. Its fun to have options!! Thanks as always buddy and hope you have a great weekend!
@@ChrisMaherDIY You too Chris, This LED journey, I remember, as I imagine you do about 15 years ago when the very first strips became available, but they weren't the flat SMD sort they were small 3 or 5mm diodes on a 30 cm strip, and quite expensive!, but how far we've come, it makes you wonder what's in store for the future!,
Firstly, love your videos! It's provided me so much inspiration for my own place. I.really hope these come back in stock. I want to make these for all the baseboards in my place, I think it would look awesome! Have you tried taking the aluminum piece to any local shops to see if any could fab it up for you? You already have a copy you just need it reproduced. Hopefully they come back in stock soon, been checking everday! 😅
Thanks so much for the comment! Appreciate the support! I have not tried that but its a good idea! I've been trying to make a diy version but re-creating the slim profile of the aluminum with wood/other materials is proving to be pretty difficult lol. Hopefully they come back in stock soon!
Thanks man this is the UAE guy channel make look I want to as him the lights but he is not teaching if you can figure out what he using I will be grateful and sorry for the bothering you The man channel ua-cam.com/channels/Yk5_iTAzDBUILMkn0g5Lxw.html
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Yeah unfortunately most things that are available in the US on amazon are not available in Europe and I don't want to recommend something unless I can personally try it. I will say though, that I have yet to find something similar to this product even in the US. I'll keep my eyes open though and make an update if I ever do! Its a bummer though that this product is not more widely available!
I've had my eye on this particular product for a very long time but they are just way too expensive but I bet there's a certain someone who can diy them alot cheaper 😉😉
Thanks so much for watching and great question! For this I used the smaller power supply. I also ran an additional set of wires from the power to the end for injection. Using the wago connectors make this super easy!
Any idea what specific acrylic these are made of? I know there are optic grades and edge reflecting options but not sure what you would call this one. I'm just imagining custom lengths and shapes.
Thats a great question and one I want to know as well! There is not really and good details on the amazon website. Wish I could be of more help. I might try reaching out to muzata to see if they have any more details! I'll let you know if they get back to me!
Thanks! Yeah I hope they do too. They sold out pretty fast. They must not have had much inventory built up. I'm planning on re-releasing the video once hey are back in stock so hopefully that is soon! Thanks for watching buddy!
Amazing video man - from the topic, to the B-roll shots, to the overall composition of the video. You earned my sub, and this was the first video of yours I've seen 👍 I LOVE when I discover new _(to me)_ , high-quality channels like this one!
Chris is there a way to put the panels together end to end? Was wanting to accent a bedroom wall with this.Any help/suggeastions would be appreciated. and you can have my sister too...lol
Theses are pretty amazing. Would love to see this in an out door project like lights along my driveway. How would you waterproof the ends if I tried this and what wire and controller would you use. I'd like to you govee as the lights are waterproof but if you have better ideas?
I was thinking the same thing on how they could potentially be installed outdoors! I'm honestly not sure how that would be done. The space for the leds to go in the channel is very small and i'm not sure if any of the waterproof led light strips would be small enough to fit. I've never tried to waterproof an led strip either at the controller level so that would be new to me as well. If govee sells led strips that have at least 90/led's per meter I would certainly give that a try and see if it worked but as far as I know they dont. I think the majority of the strips they sell are only 30/leds per meter. The end results would not look as good since the leds are spaced further apart than the ones I use in the video and are recommended.
@@ChrisMaherDIY cutting down the acrylic isn’t a problem with a jigsaw/circular saw with a straight edge and using a Govee waterproof model LED strip would work. As for the LEDs per meter thing, maybe extra sanding on the acrylic itself might help blend the ‘Pixels’ together more.
🤔 Can you test one of these with a black background behind the acrylic? I'm interested to know how much dimmer/uneven that'd make the lighting, because it would otherwise seem to be an interesting option for "stealth" lighting. Ie a surface that looks gloss black turns into a source of light.
Hey dude I just found something that you might find interesting to use with LEDs at a pool store. 4ft edge foam that LEDs can pass under. RGB pool noodles too!
These would be perfect for making some easily portable light boxes for a live show. Can these be activated by sound? Which type of controller do you need for that?
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! You could for sure make these sound reactive. I would probably just use WLED sound react ua-cam.com/video/KplepH9BT9w/v-deo.html or LedFx for that ua-cam.com/video/Fw2v_z6lyMI/v-deo.html.

Yeah the aluminum channel is really what makes this shine. I'm currently trying to make a diy version of it using wood and discovering what you have already known for a while now lol. Its hard to make it look good using wood lol. Thanks for watching!
@@ChrisMaherDIY Whats the concern with wood? just an aesthetics thing or is it a reflective properties thing
if its the latter couldnt you just use a bezel? instead of using the wood structurally? and if its the former, same deal, structural wood and then cover it with a more aesthetically pleasing bezel
Not with LEDs you weren't
Cringe flex kid
Edge lit acrylic would also look awesome on something like a distro plate
My friends and I have started looking into LEDs for our "gamer house", and your channel is an absolute GODSEND for us. Thank you for making the content that you do!
Thanks so much for watching and glad you are liking the videos! Hopefully you are documenting the game house setups because that would be awesome to see how it all comes together! Thanks for all the kind words!
Hey Chris, since these are out of stock/discontinued are there any other panels that you like that are similar?
Did you found anything like that?
Anything?
Wow!!
THANK YOU!! 😁😁
Not only was I going to enquire about your favorite diffuser, was actually going to suggest, time and finances permitting, a kind of "Best To Install" diffuser video less than a week ago....
It's unfortunately STILL on the online Todo list,
BUT,
at #2 😅
Again, fantastic content my friend!
And I huge shout-out to your wife, as I'm perfectly aware of how much support she's gotta put in for this series to output the way it does! 😁
Cheers!!
Great timing!! Thanks so much buddy and appreciate it! Thanks for all the support. Lol fortunately my wife has been amazing with how messy the house looks during some of these projects. She's a saint!
By far the best LED diffuser implementation I have seen so far.
Thanks so much for watching and I appreciate the support!!
Please productize these and make a plug-and-play product. I’d definitely pay for it!
Thanks so much for watching! If I ever give it a try I'll let you know!!
I have the normal sized Muzata channels everywhere in my gaming room and they look flawless, but somehow these steal the show.
Have you posted a video of your gaming room?! I love seeing stuff like that! But yeah, these definitely have that extra wow factor!
@@p__jay I think there is a space there for the additional wires that could be used to add power.
This summer I'm going to finish my game room. I've had ideas in my head that I've only found solutions for on your channel! Thank you!
Can't get enough of this content one day I will have time to sit and make some of this stuff!
Thanks so much!! Glad you are liking the videos and appreciate you taking the time to comment!
Unfortunately, as of Friday, May 20, 2022, they are sold out on Amazon with no predicted return date. 😥
Such a bummer! Hopefully they get a re-stock soon. They must have been going fast!
July still nothing
I contacted support and they have discontinued this product, sadly :(

this one looks elegant chris! would love to put it on walls as accents...
Thanks so much! That would look really nice! If I knew these existed a while back, I would have probably tried using them someone on my board and batten accent wall video!
impressive! not just the build, but also the fact you reply to basically every comment
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! I still try to respond to every comment! I'm sure I've missed a few here and there but its the least I can do! Thanks buddy and hope you had a great weekend!
These look awesome! Would you say it reduces the amount of light that's sent into the room, compared with normal defuser strips?
a shame that the products featured are no longer available, would have been nice to try them out
Such a bummer! They said they are re-designing them and will be releasing them soon so here is to hoping that actually happens!
How are you getting them to sync? What controller are you using?
I think something about half the height of this installed near the ceiling with white adjustable color temperature LEDs would be a great subdued led light strip. Program it to adjust color temp throughout the day
That would be awesome and great idea! I'm sure it would not be too hard to do that! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for video, given me an idea to build some shelves like this,my partner won't be happy, she said I am obsessed with leds lol
You are very welcome and that's a great idea! Lol there are worse things to be obsessed about lol!
Can you post the video of the shelves
New comer to the channel here! Thank you Chris for the tutorials/how to videos, as well as different project ideas.

these are beautiful but it looks really expensive to get them in the UK :( great work as always my man
Yeah, its tough to find things that are available all across the world.
Damn that red one looks like blood flowing thru water, what a cool effect.

I was on that quest too, tired of not finding the best, so I made my own!
Lol that's awesome! I love that mentality. Cant find what you want/like so just have to figure out how to make it yourself! How did they turn out?!
Great! I’ve used silicone, epoxy, and acrylic in different lights. Putting 2 strips in a V-channel facing each other, but staggered one LED, makes a smooth blend too.
Very cool. Thank for sharing. I am going to try to replicate this on my pool edge
You are very welcome and thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! That would look super cool!!!
I didn't know I needed this. Now I have to have this.
With some slightly slimmer channels, i'd say they would make some fancy door/window trim (or trim for the entire upper section of the wall).
For me i'm thinking about covering up a whole wall with them, behind the seats.
Great video, keep up the good work.
Thanks so much for watching! I was thinking the same thing! So many cool things you could do with these!
Hey Chris, is this discontinued "Neon Skirting Board 4ft Spotless Aluminum LED Channel with Solid Crystal Acrylic Frosted Cover Panel Skirt Board"
Chris, those look great! I'm wondering if it is possible to cut the acrylic in an arch shape to 'update' an triple arched antique Brunswick bar to look more Art Deco? Thanks.
ohhhhhhhhhh wow very nice find!!! my gears are turning!

My guess is they will cut just fine but I would still be a little nervous to try! lol.
don't worry my baseboard LED will be on the market again soon 😜
Seems like those are not available anymore. Could you maybe recommend some other ones with the same dimensions?
I admire the high quality of your videos! Just one note, in the video you mention that you get two of the channels per box, but the link you furnished goes to a product with only one diffuser channel. $55 for the one and $99 if you want two. Not a complaint. I know things change rapidly on Amazon.

Do you mind explaining why you prefer soldering your own wires on? I don't quite understand why the stock wires aren't good enough for you.
Thanks so much for watching! I really don't have a good reason other than the ones that come with the strip just seem so thin and someone once said using thicker wires is safer. I have no idea if that is true or not!
@@ChrisMaherDIY thank you for answering and I appreciate the honestly of not knowing but just being safe.
Hey. Those led strips now come in 5 m lengths
There's lit. And then there is EDGE LIT!
Oh wow- This looks so amazing.

You too Chris,
This LED journey, I remember, as I imagine you do about 15 years ago when the very first strips became available, but they weren't the flat SMD sort they were small 3 or 5mm diodes on a 30 cm strip, and quite expensive!, but how far we've come, it makes you wonder what's in store for the future!,

You keep recommending muzata products. Any alternative brand in Europe?
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Yeah unfortunately most things that are available in the US on amazon are not available in Europe and I don't want to recommend something unless I can personally try it. I will say though, that I have yet to find something similar to this product even in the US. I'll keep my eyes open though and make an update if I ever do! Its a bummer though that this product is not more widely available!
I've had my eye on this particular product for a very long time but they are just way too expensive but I bet there's a certain someone who can diy them alot cheaper 😉😉

Thanks so much for watching! Yeah they are not cheap. hopefully someone can come out with something similar for less!
Could to test to see if these fit ip65 or 68 waterproof strips? Really want to do these outdoors
Not available 😢. Maybe Otter links?
Which power supply did you end up using for this project to push all these LEDs?
Thanks so much for watching and great question! For this I used the smaller power supply. I also ran an additional set of wires from the power to the end for injection. Using the wago connectors make this super easy!
Any idea what specific acrylic these are made of? I know there are optic grades and edge reflecting options but not sure what you would call this one. I'm just imagining custom lengths and shapes.
Thats a great question and one I want to know as well! There is not really and good details on the amazon website. Wish I could be of more help. I might try reaching out to muzata to see if they have any more details! I'll let you know if they get back to me!

Hi do you think your DIY baseboard trim build video from a couple of years back could work to give the same effect?
Amazing video man - from the topic, to the B-roll shots, to the overall composition of the video. You earned my sub, and this was the first video of yours I've seen 👍
I LOVE when I discover new _(to me)_ , high-quality channels like this one!
Thanks so much for watching and the kind words! I appreciate the support and glad you liked the video! Thanks buddy!
That's a great idea! I will try doing that here hopefully soon and report back!
@@ChrisMaherDIY Awesome, thank you. I'm very curious about the outcome.
So beautiful
