    I don't have any problems with the AMT-MPC-Lindberg or Revell-Monogram cross packaging. But if you look at your windsheild of the Lindberg, it's to rounded and if you look at the AMT it's right. You have a first issue Lindberg. Later is the same as the AMT.

    Hi mat if you flip the box over and cut around the box seam you can leave the plastic on the lid. Not exactly unsealed but still protects the lid of the box, I do it to most of mine now..

    I built the Lindberg version back in the late '90s. It was a very fun build, no issues. I now have the AMT version in my stash and will enjoy building it as well. Who cares if they are the same kit. Enjoy your hobby and don't sweat the small stuff. Ha ha!

    The AMT version is the same kit except it is a corrected version of the original run from Lindberg who has a "too rounded" cowl ! İt was modified by Lindberg quickly and reintroduced about 8 months later with a new logo in blue & red instead of the one you have in yellow & red ... So the AMT is more accurate for the lower portion of the windshield and the cowl !

    I open every kit I get, but leave the plastic on the box. I cut three sides around the bottom of the box and tape the edges to the edges of the box. I do leave the internal plastic on until I build, unless I got the kit for parts. Thanks for sharing the hobby!

    I built the Lindberg '61 Impala last year, it's a great little kit. The one I did was the early version with the misshaped windscreen cowl. It's barely noticable but still looks amazing when built up, they really are a nice kit these.

    This means that I don't have to chase an old Lindberg 409 Impala because the box art is alluring. I'll just go get another AMT Impala. But I do like what Round2 is doing. They can re-release all the old model kits from our childhood. I want!

    Yours looks to be an early Lingberg release. The cowl behind the hood was wrong in their 1st release of the '61. Check the AMT hood with the Lindberg one, the back side might be different. They recalled and fixed it before putting it back out.

    Matt, if you’d like to do a comparison of the same car, kitted by different companies, hunt down a pair of 1967 Chevelle kits. Revell and AMT both did that car, and released them at nearly the same time.
    They also both did their own ‘67 Camaro and ‘69 Chevelle kits.
    But those were both tooled decades apart.

    Matt, it doesn’t bother me at all. Round2 purchased those molds with the intent of re-popping the kit. They repair worn or broken molds and include upgraded or comparable parts if needed some they sell under Lindbergh some they cross over to AMT. I believe they did sell that kit under Lindbergh for a time and recently switched to AMT. it’s what they do hence Round2. We should all be happy we have these kits to purchase.

    Interesting note: Matt that 48 Ford convertible You & your Father built is actually a Lindberg Kit reboxed and rebranded as Testors. I still have one in the box I never built.
    With Model Kits I recommend always removing the plastic, these olds kits can have defects from age and sitting. I will only ever pay higher dollar for open kits where I can see if the tires haven't eaten through Windows or body parts and the decals are flaking to pieces. I photo copy the original decals and make news ones from the scans. In the model hobby never pay top dollar for sealed kits, especially as some have had the vehicle inside different from the box, a mistake from the factory 35+ years ago lol. A sealed model kit is a gamble and no one should ever risk paying the collectors gouging prices on unknown condition sealed kits.
    P.S. Most people in the hobby are aware of the brand molds for the model lines, collectors do anyway. It's not a shady thing it's just what companies do when they aquire the molds. Most of the time it's obvious as we know AMT bought out Lindberg. These were never made or designed to be collectors items so companies never put much effort to keep the mold trails clear from year to year. I remember hearing at a model club meeting years ago where Monogram had gotten some older molds from airfix that were to be repaired but they never paid for them so the molding company years later sold them off to Monogram which later bought the US Airfix rights which then went to Revell who did release a number of Airfix kits as Revell kits. Interesting stuff if you watch the videos for each brand you learn a lot of little things they were all doing back then.
    Here's a you tube video link showing the history of the company. This guy does amazing research and makes videos for all the major Brands including Jo-Han.

    AMT/Lindberg is essentially Revell/Monogram now that the model industry has consolidated. And now Round2 is cross-packaging with Italeri just as Revell has cross-packaged with Italeri for years in Europe. And let's not forget that Atlantis is now selling older kits once sold by Revell and that companies like Model King throw special, short-release kits into the mix. And how does Moebius fit into the puzzle?
    Sigh ... it gets confusing, but I will note that we're in another Golden Age for building and collecting.
    Oh, and before I forget, there are sellers out there (mostly on eBay) who are taking pristine kits they've acquired - kits that have been opened and, gasp, touched 😉 - and rewrapping them so well, even seasoned collectors have trouble recognizing then.
    So, take custody of some of those old kits and sleep easily at night. Some of them will make some other modeler quite happy someday.👍

    But, they're not exactly the same. The new AMT kit also includes the mag wheels from their '62 BelAir kits that weren't in there before.
    Also, as Glen and Helene mentions below, the cowls and windshields are not the same. You got one of the early Lindberg kits with the incorrect cowl, hood etc.
    It was caught early on and corrected. Back then, if you had bought one, If you contacted Lindberg they would send you a new body, hood, glass, chrome tree with new wipers to fit the new windshield and a few other things. IIRC, they sent me almost 1/2 the kit because if one part on a tree was wrong, they would send you the whole tree.

    To answer your question about Round 2 mixing kits among the brands, I personally wish they wouldn't. Revell did the same thing when Monogram was absorbed. Many Monogram toolings are out as Revell kits now. I would rather they stay Monogram branded.
    The Lindberg molds need to be Lindberg. Just my opinion😁
    Oh, yeah, like you said, Ertl released MPC as AMT too. Glad to see MPC name come back. Ertl almost killed both brands by not having a clue how to run a hobby model company. Quality was spotty, kit contents wouldn't match box art, and so on..... Glad they are gone.

I have only about 345 different kits , some of them I really like I do the same thing you do and buy multiple kits of the same cars and trucks. UPDATED
    Answer: the AMT kit is just a re-boxing of the Lindberg kit. (That frankly surprised me: I always felt the latter company’s kits were inferior in fidelity, accuracy, and quality overall.)
    Well, as you separate the contents of each kit maker’s box, I see a difference: the relatively slender area between the base of the windshield and the root of the hood looks different on each of the two kits. Also, you noted that the windshield wipers are different.
    Next, I have a few questions the answers to which can give us something to learn out of all this, which can make this exercise worthwhile: why? And how? That is, why would two kits of the same mold have a difference in their respective largest part? Who would go to all that expense, effort, and trouble, and how would one proceed? To what purpose?

    • @RLRSwanson
      @RLRSwanson 2 роки тому +2

      The reasoning that I can think of for Round2 to do it is that AMT, at least globally afaik is a much more widely known and recognizable IP/brand/whatever one wants to call it than Lindberg in the catalogue of stuff they own. Plus it's one of the more reputable ones as well, compared to say MPC (warranted or not). So I think from a marketing and ROI point, releasing the kit under a known brand makes more sense than under a brand they'd have to spend resources building up to a point where potential customers won't pass over it because they're not familiar with the name on the box. Judging from the comments this isn't nearly the first Lindberg kit Round2 has re-released as an AMT.
      Though Round2 should in my view be more up front about where the plastic in the box originated from. The print doesn't cost that much more compared to how many older modelers will snap them up as soon as they find out "Oh it's that kit" without having to resort to the internet.

    Why the change is company names is beyond me. But considering they only have to change a couple of things to call it their own, I guess it's ok.
    What I will say is Jay Leno is right. All of us are just custodians of anything we have. All of us.
    I would say the percentage of the "original", unrestored cars in his collect is extremely small, you might find solace in the fact. Even a kit that has been started but is complete is still of value from a custodians viewpoint.

    Damn...that is disappointing and what a bummer. Now I feel bad about suggesting the comparison, sorry man. It is incredibly misleading to put the exact same kit out as something other than what it was, however the logic for Round2 to do it that I can come up with, is that from their catalogue of IPs, AMT to a wider audience is a much more recognizable franchise/brand than Lindberg, that also doesn't have a stink still attached to it like MPC does, warranted or not* Still doesn't make that kind of reboxing right in my book. I mean, I have an Italeri 1/48 Macchi MC.205 kit in my stash, where if one bothers to read the text on the box etc. it's obvious the plastic came from Japan (Hasegawa), but the decals are AFAIK different to all of the previous releases. So if one is going to do a rebox, then there should be something a little more than just a pair of slicks.
    *It's not like AMT didn't have issues. I found an AMT/ERTL Bill Elliott Coors thunderbird kit from 1990 on sale that I bought for the engine and some other parts to use in another build and to make a nice curbside while I'm at it. Sealed original plastic, unopened, sprues and everything packed as they should be, decals in pristine condition. The body and clear stuff was good, but then there's a twisted clump of sprues in one of the bags and there's clear melt marks on the sprue that has the rollcage halves on it. So, I guess they got stuck in the packing machine or something and whoever packed the box ignored it. Fortunately the bits I wanted out of the kit are usable, but I have to say I was more than a little aggravated at enough being useless that it wasn't worth the effort to have to scratch build most of the remaining kit. Luckily I found another unopened 1990ish AMT/ERTL thunderbird with livery idgaf about for cheap, where everything else was good other than the clear parts, which are useless.

    Hey Mathew, thanks for the comparison. You pointed out a couple things different between the two. The differences between them, are in my opinion the efforts, adjustments and improvements made by the next owners of the molds, the right to rebrand them. One thing you noticed but didn't catch was on the chrome tree. The sprue bar at the bumpers, if you look closely the detail in the front bumper and grill is different and in my opinion better on the AMT kit. I don't think this rebranding is meant to be deceptive, but rather to bring attention to improvements or changes to the molds/kits after acquisition. Therefore I'm good with it!

    Matt everyone knows it's the same kit. 🤣🤣🤣 I honestly don't mind the reissues. It's not really misleading. Technically they bought Lindberg so they can do whatever they like.

    Now you know why I quit buying all those kits tired of building the same old kit in a different box

    I do not like the fact that the model companies change up the branding like they do. It can be confusing sometimes. It is done for marketing purposes & it seems to work out for them. You could have made a video asking the community if the kits were the same or not, I suppose.

    Question for you - does the new kit have the Cragar mag wheels. The Lindberg kit doesn't.

    How about pro streeting this kit with the AMT 67 Chevelle kit?

    There is a rare few of lindberg 61 Impalas that the hood was molded backwards.

    Matthew, I already knew that these two kits were the same because I already had the Lindberg kit and bought the AMT kit just to compare the two but I watched any way because I enjoy your videos.

    I know it's hard...but look at it this way...If you are monetized on UA-cam and getting paid per video view...you will actually make more money over time per video than the end value of the kit. Also, you are showing the world some model kit history.

    Okay the mags are not on the chrome tree but there are mags in the AMT kit.

    Dude I would have never opened that kit 😆 Anyways, one thing I took away from this video is that Lindberg is the same as amt.i just got a Lindbergh Dodge color me fast at a local hobby shop and I had no idea these things were the same !!!

    did the amt kit have custom wheels that are on the box art ?

  • @grb351
    @grb351 2 роки тому +2

    In regards to the changes to the trees, it could be that the mold was repaired. Thus it is slightly different.

    Why didn’t you make the last two cuts on the AMT box and just remove the bottom panel of plastic, like I do? I open all my kits, but keep the plastic on 5 sides to protect the box art. Obviously you can’t do that on the clamshell boxes like the Lindberg.

    Please look at the body again. I think the cowl on the Lindberg is rounder than the AMT......🤔

    • @erics3424
      @erics3424 2 роки тому +2

      Yeah, I spotted that too. The very first issues of the '61 kit had the rounder cowl. Lindberg stopped production of the kit and fixed the cowl. So he just opened a kit that's only real value was to some collector of flawed kits. I have an opened first issue 1969 Dodge Charger that has the chopped top that I am going to build using a spare body from one of my other kits. I may even chop the nose off of the body to build a '69 Charger 500 using the Daytona kit.

    Who cares who made the mold. Round 2 is putting out kits to build. They could just call them R2 kits. If I liked the model I would buy it and build it.
