You have to respect a game that is willing to deal with so many sensitive and/or obscure topics throughout its plot. Imagine how much this encouraged players to exercise reflection and debate this story with their unique perspectives. The title made me shed many tears, but I am grateful for them and the memories I had from this experience.

The Voice acting work in the junkyard scene is so good is because Ashly Burch the VA for Chloe, 2 weeks before doing this scene lost a close friend to a overdose, this was done in one take and Hannah, Max's also lost a close loved one around the same time, the tears the two shed in this are genuine. They were asked if it was better if they rescheduled and they said no, they were also in the same room when shooting the emotional scenes. this scene was actually done in a single take, not a second one was done because it was perfect. as it captured the genuine emotion the two were still processing from their own grief.
And my theory on the deer, the first time you actually see it, it leads you to where Rachels body is and stands over it you just don't know the meaning of it by that point.
My Theory is that Deer was Rachel's spirit animal and Max shares the same spirit animal so that's why she could see it, it was Rachel trying to lead them to her body, and it lowers it's head as if it's sad before it disappears, seeing Chloe breaking down.

Apparently my other comment got blocked, because there was a link in it. Just wanted to point out, that Ashly Burch did write about the making of this scene in her blog, and they did indeed multiple readings of that scene. Sadly, her blog doesn't exist anymore. But if you go to her Wikipedia page and search for "The Boy in the Well", you can find the link to the archived version of that article.
She writes about her friend David, how he died, how she felt during that time and how it connected her to Chloe, especially during this scene. It's a very emotional read, and I'm always tearing up, while reading it. It's well written, too.

    • @Ladco77
      @Ladco77 День тому +2

Also, Ashly was the one who found her partner's body after he died. She said in her blog how playing Chloe allowed her to express her grief, saying that playing Chloe for her was an act of self-care. All the emotion in that scene is real.
You can find it by searching for "The boy in the Well by Ashly Burch"

This episode cemented Life Is Strange as one of my favorite games of all time. The scene after the barn is soooo gut wrenching every damn time no matter how many times I’ve played or watched it. The Jefferson twist was really well done. When I played the game, I didn't see it coming at all. Yes, he was suspicious to me and I had a feeling that something about him was off. But I wouldn't ever expect him to be the one behind it all. I can imagine that the next episode will be very stressful for you. Because it just is.

    • @DragonFireChK
      @DragonFireChK 2 дні тому

They did a great job writing the twist. Its well enough hidden that you don't expect it, yet its fairly obvious in hindsight with various statements and behaviors he made. "I could trap you in a dark corner and capture you in a moment of desperation" (almost at the beginning of the game). His interaction with Kate just before she jumps. His general creepy vibes.
So often, late twists are not foreshadowed much, and just feel unnatural. The Jefferson twist was very well done.

At 20:19 was a letter from Nathans Therapist. To explain how he is worried Nathan is not getting the right help, And his parents neglecting his mental state, They took it out of the "remastered" version for some reason

A shame you can't read it in the remaster. I always loved that letter because the therapist makes it clear that it's impossible for Nathan to improve on his own and tells Sean that he is part of the problem and therefore has to be a part of the solution, and since Sean is unwilling to do that there's nothing the therapist can do for Nathan. Shows that as bad as Nathan is, his problems didn't come from a vacuum.

I really don't like Victoria, but I thought it was worth warning her. Nobody deserves to have to go through that, so if there's the slightest chance I can prevent it, I'll take it. I do understand your concerns about that potentially leading to worse outcomes tho, but imo, the worst potential outcome was Victoria ending up as a victim.
Rewinding time is a crucial element/mechanic of this game. If you ever feel like a certain decision doesn't sit right with you, you have the ability to reverse the decision. You can always see how a certain decision plays out before making up your mind.
Enjoying the playthrough, looking forward to the next one!

I'm loving your playthrough! I really, really hope you go on to play Life is Strange: Before the Storm as soon as you're done with LiS1.
39:08 - "... Nathan's first victim, maybe it went a little bit sideways..." Your insight is spot on.
1:00:20 - Yeah, there's a way to take a picture of the two moons during the pool scene like you suspected. You just have to get the angle exactly right.
1:26:34 - I have never noticed that you can see the lighthouse lit up during the nighttime junkyard scene.
1:32:12 - Other commenters were correct. Trying to get "the Frank conversation" correct on your very first try is insanely difficult. It's actually kind of funny when most players get it repeatedly wrong, for reasons I won't mention in case they're a spoiler.
1:33:15 - Most people probably miss Warren's slate, which is why the percentage of people who changed it is very low.
One last mention, the first time you see the spirit doe in the junkyard in episode 2, it's standing directly over Rachel's grave. Many people use this to suspect that the doe is supposed to be Rachel's spirit animal, but I suspect it's actually Max's, attempting to lead her to what she's looking for.

The really…cool? huh, doesn’t feel quite appropriate. The really interesting part about the twist at the end of the chapter is that they laid down hints about the twist in the very beginning of Episode 1. You-know-who says some really really messed up things in that first classroom sequence. "I could frame any of you in a dark corner and capture you in a moment of desperation. But wouldn't that be too easy?"
He also, and I wouldn’t have noticed this if not for another let’s play channel, positions himself in class in a way that, given the twist, is creepy. All the “traditionally attractive” girls are seated so that he’s facing them. Victoria, Taylor, Max, Stella, Kate, etc. All the guys (and the one girl that isn’t ’conventionally attractive’, Alyssa) are seated so he has his back to them. Not worth his notice, I suppose.
Think back as well to the showcase of his work on the quad. All the photographs fit a similar theme, and that theme is similar to the themes you see in the photographs of Kate & Rachel in the bunker.
And speaking of Kate, I think you picked up on this, but think about Episode 2 when Kate is talking to him before class. He’s very rude to her there. Then he says she was asking for it, brought it on herself, what have you.
I absolutely love the twist and how they laid out clues that, in hindsight, are very clear but at the time seem relatively innocuous.
I'll end this comment edit by pointing out that there was a gap between Rachel's disappearance and the girl who disappeared most recently before her. This gap lines up with Jefferson's time in New York City. I'd be willing to bet that there were girls who went missing there during that time and that the disappearances stop when he came back to Oregon to teach at Blackwell.

Regarding leaving Warren a message: the issue is that the location is somewhat out of the way. Unless you are actively trying to find everything, you are likely to go into Nathan's room before you reach Warren's room, and end up not going to Warren's board at all.
For Chloe's request: right-to-die laws have around an 80%-90% public support in some form. Around 50%-60% say active assistance is warranted when their is no hope of improvement, while close to 90% say refusal of treatment is moral. Overall, the fact that 67% accepted Chloe's request is not all that surprising to me.

And seeing those statistics definitely makes more sense that more would opt to go for Chloe's request. This is one of those situations where you wouldn't understand unless you're in those shoes.. They are hard shoes to be in.

One of my favorite scary movies is "The Others", starring Nicole Kidman. It's a bit more of a suspense than outright "scary" horror film (it's listed as being in the "psychological horror" genre, according to Google, which I'd say is accurate) but it's got a pretty unique and twisty story, and is a good stepping stone to other more scary and recent fan-favorite horror films like "The Conjuring".

    Scary Movie recommendations:
    1) John Carpenter's "The Thing"
    2) The 70's version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" with Donald Sutherland
    3) Session 9
There are many more, but those are three of my favorites!
I'm surprised you don't know who "Watson" is. Dr. Watson is the assistant to Sherlock Holmes.

About accepting Chloe's request, there's a lot to unpack, but I think she's saying it pretty well. She has made her decision, and her handicap is just preventing her to do it herself. If she could, she would've. The fact that she doesn't have the physical ability to do it shouldn't prevent her to make that decision, she's asking for help, and I just see that as being there for my friend. I she was hungry, I would've brought her something to eat, it would be pretty selfish to say "no, I don't want you to eat" and profit from the fact that she actually can't herself to impose my will on her.
in addition, if you chose to refuse, she does tell you that she already talked about it to her parents and that they won't respect her will. It's kinda like people not respecting other people wishes about how their body should be disposed off once they're dead. The dead person can't do anything about it, but I think it still should be their decision.
Not saying I would be happy to do it irl if a friend asked me, but in a similar situation, I think I would... It would hurt like hell to do it, but still.

I really enjoyed listening to your thought process behind the decision on if you should warn Victoria. I think for most, the decision is very black and white, and those who choose not to warn her, see it as "Oh I hate Victoria, I don't care what happens to her, F her, I won't warn her". Which is why it ends up the heavy minority decision. But you took it so many steps deeper. Considering how much danger is she actually in considering what Max and Chloe are doing, and if you put the main mission of finding Nathan at risk by warning her. All of that extra insight has always made your playthroughs so engaging to watch! As you've seen, all the decisions in this game are very nuanced and aren't straight up right or wrong, so we'll just have to wait and see how the next chapter plays out

For sure! Sometimes it's better to keep those in danger out of the know in the moment because it could be their life on the line. I love the decisions in this game because I feel like they have pros/cons either way. I love Mass Effect, but it was easier to make some decisions because they did make it very black and white. But this game has so many shades of grey which makes it a great story and adds so much depth to the characters too!

The scene with finding Rachel is still one of the hardest hitting scenes for me emotionally in a game I’ve played, and I think most of it is just how good and well executed the music and voice acting is during all of it. You put together all the clues along with Nathan’s own profile sooooo well, predicting what was really happening in the bunker. I don’t think anyone on their first time tho is ready for who the real villain down there is
I think for Warren's slate, the % for not writing on it is inflated a little higher by all the people who went straight to Nathan's room and didn't interact with it. Even for me, for as thoroughly as I explored when I played, I remember somehow missing it. Which is sad, bc it's such an endearing message Max puts on there
For scary movies, I can recommend The Conjuring franchise! They’re the ones I got my start on watching modern horror films, and compared to many others, they do a really good job at bringing in some extra cinematography and adding a bigger emotional impact. Scary but not tooooo scary. They’re in their own cinematic universe with sequels and spin-offs. From what I’ve seen, they’re also pretty popular on YT. If you don’t want paranormal, The Strangers is another really good one, but knowing your fears, you WILL have nightmares, so be advised lol

    • @kaliwali

Chloe just sobbing was such a stun to me.. I've seen people in games cry, but this one was a whole different level. Her walls went down. The strong Chloe we knew crumbled into Max's arms. It was such a powerful moment..
And that totally makes sense with Warren's slate! I forget that some people don't explore as much so it skews the statistics by a lot. Same with Detroit Become Human!
I've heard of The Conjuring franchise and love the idea of it being scary but not 'too scary' LOL. I've honestly been worried about the spooky movie time and went from doing 4 to just 2 because I don't think I'll be able to handle filming and editing 4 scary movies hahaha. I think I'll check out The Conjuring for one of them tho, thank you for the suggestion!

    Alien 3 - 1992
Alien: Resurrection - 1997. After these Alien movies with the main star Sigourney Weaver, several spin-offs were made. And the Game Alien Isolation - 2014 wich is really well made by the developers as they stayed true to the movie.

Sometimes I feel people have the tendency to choose the most obvious scary movies when given the option to suggest something scary to watch. Me, a horror film enthusiast, will do you a solid and list a few films that range in fear and genre. Luckily this small list does include some of the more obvious choices that anyone would suggest but also some of the less obvious ones.
Krampus (2015) - A far more recent film from Director Michael Dougherty. There have been a ton of adaptations of this Horror Christmas legend, but this one in particular is a good little starter horror movie for people that probably don't like being scared. It's not too scary and it's also a good movie to show to kids if they're too young to watch them. In fact, it kinda reminds me of the Goosebumps books/show.
Suspiria (2018) - Again, a more recent film and it also just happens to be a remake of an old Italian horror classic. While I could easily have just suggested the original. This particular remake is a pretty good example of how to do a really good remake of a classic while also being it's own thing. This one is definitely one of the more adult supernatural horror films that hits you with some pretty long lasting imagery. Probably not one for kids if they're too young
Jacob's Ladder (1990) - This is a more psychological horror movie that when I was growing up, was probably one of the most effective in teaching me how deep and thought provoking horror can be in the hands of the right story teller. It also single handedly helped inspire one of my favorite horror franchises in gaming, "Silent Hill" (it's a shame the games have been crap lately but it's whatever)so Jacob's Ladder has a lasting legacy that people outside of horror rarely mention it.
The Fly (1986) - Again, a remake but it is probably my favorite sci-fi horror movies of all time. It is the one movie that got me into genre as a whole (and gore to an extent) so it's definitely not for the feint of heart as it has some truly grotesque imagery that really sticks with you long after the movie is over. The subtext within the story is also something that usually most people miss their first time through, unless you're quick to catch the real life parallels. Would definitely hold off on it until you're up to being subjected to some truly disturbing body horror.
There's other movies, but these are the ones that popped into my mind currently and I'm sure some people could suggest something different and their choices would still be some good choices regardless.

3:30 "Watson, ..." - "I don't get that joke." Dr. Watson is the assistant and friend of Sherlock Holmes (see the book you recently received). As they are investigating a complicated criminal case here, Max's going for that analogy.
11:35 "Why does it always have to be a basement?" 😁
    15:41 So close ... 😂
31:42 And that's where Max should have taken a ton of photos as evidence, in case someone cleans up after them. ... and of course she should have also taken photos at the junkyard and right then called the FBI instead of the local police right then. A bit sad that they let Max, who has proven to be very intelligent, make such a stupid mistake, just leaving without evidence without any real need to leave immediately. Would have needed a bit more story tweaking by the writers to have Max's effort be ineffective or add a reason to run, but it would have been possible.
42:51 "I used to watch a lot of documentaries ... and I had to stop, because just going to the groceries store ... I was always looking over my shoulder wondering, if the person picking up the pasta next to me was a serial killer, I just couldn't get out of that mind set. ... You just never know. ... I had to stop watching those shows."
Absolutely, you never know. Serial killers have to eat, too, and they don't necessarily wear their "I'm a serial killer. Run as long as you can." shirt full of tomato sauce stains while picking up their pasta ... very suspicious! 😉"He was such a nice guy always buying pasta and sauce. Never saw him buy any meat though. 😉"
Seriously: While it's a good precaution to look where you're going and not to take candy from strangers, it doesn't make sense to live in continuous fear. Binge watching reality horror TV certainly has the potential to get you shaky and paranoid.
48:52 "With great power comes great bullshit." 🤣 Yeah. Love that one.
52:47 "Blackwell would be so much cooler, if we all did that for everybody else... but you're a great start, Max." Imagine how great our school time would have been, if everyone would have been nice, looking out for each other.
53:00 "I also feel like I'm actually at this party right now. The ambience, the music, everyone shouting, the loudspeaker. Like it's sooo much, it's very overstimulating." They totally nailed that. I like the echo of the music like it would be in large swimming hall room, and the strained way people have to talk in conversations to get heard. Really good.
    59:14 "... or both." 😂😂
1:15:15 "OMG. There's people doing stuff over here." 😂
1:20:39 "Oh finally a teacher." * insert knowing eyebrow raise here *
    1:23:11 "You suck Victoria!" 😂
    1:27:25 "It's a trap!" A big one ... 😱
1:28:08 Big reveal. And I'm sure everyone was very surprised there the first time.
1:30:12 "I don't think I've ever had that feeling from a game before were I was so blindsided ..."
1:30:59 "... and now I'm worried that I possibly murdered her, too." You made a good point in Victoria possibly running to / texting Nathan warning him which would have likely raised the danger for you. And you thought Chloe and You had it under control protecting her. It just didn't work out that way. If Victoria believes you depends on certain decisions you made earlier. It might probably have worked in your case.
1:33:08 Message on Warren's slate. "Why do you think it is, that a lot of people didn't leave a message?" I assume many people felt the pressure to get in and out of Nathan's room as quickly as possible (as not every game is forgiving concerning checking out every detail in your own time) and having Nathan's room number from Kate you can go directly there. I appreciate the approach of checking out everything, though ... which also saved Kate's life.
1:33:33 "I'm in shock. ... I'm in the really heavy phase of denial right now. I'm not accepting that Chloe's dead. There's no way."
"I did not see that coming." I think no one did in the first play through.
"... Replay-ability ..." Oh yes, that knowledge gives you a completely different view on some scenes. .. and I wonder, if you can trace Jefferson's car to the barn while doing the evidence board task. I can't remember, if I tried this at some point. Probably not.
    --
As you were asking for recommendations of horror movies to react to:
Just like you I don't like actual horror movies, but I can recommend you a really good movie that's close to that genre, you could do a movie reaction video of. It's a very sophisticated psychological mystery thriller with enough horror elements for the average viewer. A big warning though: It does contain kinds of abuse and violence you might react strongly to, potentially even including basements ;) no seriously. And it's totally fine, if you don't want that. Talking about: "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" ( www.imdb.com/title/tt1568346/ ).
A second more well known psychological thriller: "The Silence of the Lambs" ( www.imdb.com/title/tt0102926/ ).
If you'd like to go with one of these, I'd rather go for "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", because not everyone has seen this n times on TV, which is likely true for the other one.
