His shikai really looks like sun breathing(demon slayer) although I would say I would be a more oily substance almost like burning spiritual pressure which can spread and burn larger with the input and maybe the bankai would have something similar
His Bankai must be like Kensei. Aizen said it leaves reiatsu pressure on the body. For this reason, it is a more logical option for him to have a bankai that provides integrity with his body.
His bankai is that INDESTRUCTIBLE JAWLINE. Man has been kicked in the jaw more than any other fictional character in history and he still looks like a chad.
I always imagined Engetsu had sort of a phoenix style theme. Since a lot of Phoenixes are depicted as covered in fire and with tail feathers that are on fire that look similar to the tassels that come off of his shikai. It also associated with blood somewhat since a Phoenix is all about rebirth and renewal. So I always imagined that his bankai gave him fiery wings, sort of like Toshiro's bankai, and that it gave him two abilities. The first is to boost his flames with his own blood. The second would tie into the phoenix theme more. Isshin's bankai would constantly heal Isshin into whatever condition he was in when activating his bankai. So in an ideal world you use it in perfect health, and any blow your opponent lands briefly boosts the power of your flames, before being healed almost instantly. Isshin could also injure himself to boost his flames if needed, since a self inflicted wound would also immediately heal. This would make Isshin's bankai really hard to fight against, since your attacks would only make him stronger. You'd either need a power like senbonzakura to inflict a ton of constant damage, or you'd just have to try and outlast Isshin and wait until his stamina runs out. Those two abilities would also explain why he can't use it safely when injured. His bankai would ensure the injury always remains open, and as the wound bleeds it'd just constantly be boosting his flames until they were massive and out of control. That'd rapidly burn through Isshin's stamina too, meaning while he might be able to land a few super powerful attacks, the out of control flames would cause a lot of unacceptable collateral damage, especially while in the living world.
Yoooooo, I like this idea, it actually makes considerable sense. Most of the flames when Isshin swings Engetsu DO resemble phoenix wings. The tassels could likely be the tail in that instance.
I'm not sure what his Bankai would be, but I think it's certain that his power level is up there with Shunsui, Ukitake, Urahara, Unohana, and Yoruichi.
Considering how strong White is, you have to think maybe even stronger. His powers held White at bay for over a decade. And once Ichigo was old enough, and his powers activated and started coming under Ichigos control, you'd have to imagine that the power that returned to Isshin would have grown over the period of time. So maybe not as strong as Ichigo, considering the broken level he is at, but definitely would be top tier captain level.
I've always considered him to be a second generation captain and a contemporary of both ukitake and shunsui. He knows too much and has too much power to be particularly young for a standard shinigami.
I don't think so, I mean we're given a relative placement for his power and it's nowhere near the likes of Shunsui, Urahara and Ukitake, let alone Unohana. His base scales to the Ichigo who fought Byakuya in the SS arc, whether that be shikai or Bankai Ichigo we don't know. I personally lean towards Bankai Ichigo. Isshin states that Ichigo's hollow powers had grown stronger than what his Soul Reaper powers could contain and thats why the seal broke and Ichigo began to hollowfi.
@@00yiggdrasill00 Shunsui and Ukitake are a lot older than Isshin. Like a lot! Isshin wasn’t even a Captain in the “Turn Back the Pendulum” arc. Which was(what was it🤔) like 110 years ago. Ukitake and Shunsui are quite a bit older than Isshin. In terms of Shinigami I’d think Isshin is pretty young. You gotta remember that in Soul Society you can live up to 2,000 years if not older. Yamamoto was something like 2,000 years old when he died give or take a few centuries. The only reason Isshin looked so old is because of the body he was in ages like that of a normal human being. Kubo even stated that one of the main reason Gotei members didn’t recognize Isshin was due to the fact that he looked way older than what he’s supposed to look and the other members thought that there was no way it could be him due to his looks.
I agree alot with the sentiment of Engetsu being less a Fire Zanpakuto and more of a HEAT based one, similiar to how Rukia's works. The way I look at it, the name Engetsu (Scathing Moon) makes me think that the zanpakuto itself is incredibly grouchy, very stubborn, and hot headed. Basically and irritable old man, with a temper so hot, that when he wakes up, it Ignites reiatsu! Which is why I think that the Bankai of Engetsu, which i'll call "Kanshaku Engetsu" (Hot Temper Scathing Moon) would be the pinnacle of that, a temper so fierce that it ignites ALL reiatsu around, increasing local heat to insane levels and possibly burning both Isshin and his opponent. Hence the strain Aizen may have been referring too?
Yess i was looking for a comment like this one. I had this idea that he would have a bankai based on "fuel" that would work pretty similarly to the one you described. It could work both with his blood fueling flames that make him stronger, thus limiting the time he can use it and making it dificult to start, and also burning up other's reiatsu to directly damage them, the surrounding area and additionally possibly impeding them of using some powers.
Given that Zangetsu is a representation of his father’s genetics on his soul, it would make sense that Engetsu would present similarly. Bankai maybe being a compression of the flame “inside” his body… His blood and brawler fighting style creating eruptions of force. I’d never quite put it together before this, but considering that Ichigo never had an Asauchi for his original powers, makes sense that he and his dad would be similar.
I have a feeling it's similar to Ichigo's in a sense that it's a bankai that could be worn by the user. Something similar to Zanka No Tachi: West but like a flaming, scorched shuhakusho. Edit: Nvm guys he already called it
ichigo's zanpakuto has merged with hollow powers, meaning his bonkai was probably effected by it also. ishin isn't the same, his shinigami powers are purely shinigami, meaning using ichigos abilities as a base for speculation doesn't really make sense. since they are fundamentally different.
6:10 Isshin got that drip lol. I always thought I’d be cool if Isshin’s Bankai had to do with pyrotechnics or fireworks. Since the Shiba house were known for fireworks.
I imagine that Ishin's shikai and bankai would make sense to be oil based, the flames increasing in size when he spat his blood onto the blade explains the danger. Imagine him as the vessel carrying that volatile liquid, whatever shape his flames take if they are hotter and more volatile that makes any wound no matter how small incredibly dangerous or potentially deadly to him. His body is essentially full of fuel, the way the fire moves when colliding with an oponents blade suggests oil. Him lighting it may either be a secondary effect, some sort of subtle kido ability or a spark being caused by him drawing his sword from his sheath in a certain way. He could be the only fire type zanpakuto user that doesn't actually have a fire ability, it could be more a conciquence of his actual ability and creative fighting style.
the thing that makes Engetsu tough to speculate about is that Kubo tries his best to make zanpakuto of the same element very distinct, the main example being Rukia and Toshiro, Rukia's focuses on cold and Toshiro's focuses more on generating large quantities of ice and manipulating all the water in the atmosphere You can't really do this with Engetsu though because Ryujin Jakka and Zanka no Tachi do basically everything you could imagine a fire zanpakuto doing My only guess is that maybe Isshin's bankai is a big, one time use nuke like Soi Fon's and so when he was injured it was too risky to use because without 100% control it could've hurt him and destroy the surrounding area
I think we all should remember the moment when Ichigo reiatsu evaporated the ocean when his real swords were forged. So I think that Getsuga Tensho is actually a fire attack - a very condensed blue flame. Just a thing to think about So I would assume that his dad has some degree of control there. His bankai is definitely linked in some way to his body.what could it possibly be? I think Issin is the master of condensing his fire power, therefore the famous "Aisen flick". I would assume that it has more to do with pressure - both Getsuga Tensho and that flick, plus him saying it is dangerous to use when his reiatsu is unstable is a very good testament to that. If he can't keep his power condensed, it makes very good sense it's dangerous. So what could it possibly be? It could be a sword like Yama that deletes anything it touches. I just thought that this power was meant for Issin and not Yamamoto. It could be more physical like Yorouichi Shunko. Him using blood is just an ability I think, not a center of his bankai. We don't see many scars on him. So I would theorize his bankai condenses his power and gives him a longsword with his condensed fire. It is probably not conceptual like Kyoraku. But maybe by carefully releasing his flames, he can gain tremendous buffs in offence and defense.
Maybe the nature of Isshin’s zanpakuto has an opposite power to Rukia. Rukia manipulates cold and thus ice through the application of cold, so maybe he manipulates heat and thus fire through heat. It could explain why it flows like a liquid. I would assume his Bankai would be the opposite of Rukia’s then, where he himself goes to a pinnacle of heat and he’s body morphs to some form that presents that
Loved this video. I actually brought up this idea in one of your last videos and your artwork is top notch. I definitely like both versions of his bankai. The second one looks majestic and for the first one it’s awesome that you incorporated the smoking habit isshin had for masaki into his bankai as a tribute to her. The second design is probably something similar to his final getsuga
I like that Isshin and Ichigo have similar abilities. Despite Rukia giving Ichigo most of her powers, she didn’t pass on her Zanpakuto’s abilities. But since Isshin became a father as a soul reaper, Ichigo inherited his power and therefore generates similar abilities and names. I would like to think that Isshin’s Bankai works something like Mugetsu but with fire. Not only does it remain similar in name to Engetsu, but it would make sense why it takes a heavy toll on him. And it would explain why he felt confident Ichigo could learn it. “Becoming Getsuga itself” isn’t too different of a concept from using your blood to fuel your power. But instead of losing his powers, it just drains him heavily.
Most people in a family don't even have Zanpaktous. Like Byakuya says it generally skips several generations even among nobles with high levels of Spiritual Pressure.
@@A_Black_Sheep94 That was referring to bankai being rare in the Gotei 13. Zanpakutos are given to every shinigami. What I meant was that Ichigo is a rare case of a human being born to a shinigami and inheriting some of his powers.
@@A_Black_Sheep94 Oh I see. I forgot about that since the noble families like the Kuchki have hereditary shinigami powers. I forgot that was just a noble thing.
Apparently I need to brush up on my MrTommo lore, because I had no earthly idea that you have drawn what-if comics based on Bleach. Your re-draw of Isshin using Bankai is badass.
I really like that second idea, him becoming a hulking mass of destructive fire and strength at the cost of using his own blood to fuel the bankai, it fits perfectly as a evolved version of his shikai, plus the fact ichigo's zonpakuto adds a cloak to his look as part of his bankai also fits perfectly with isshin as well making that hereditary link from father to son with their zonpakuto being almost mirrors of themselves
@@A_Black_Sheep94 i don't think his shikai would require him to hurt himself to use some of its abilities, since we are talking pure speculation off a fan idea, the idea of hurting himself to superpower his shikai to a bankai lvl temporarily for an attack or 2 is quite unique, plus quite handy, say dudes in a prolonged fight, he wouldn't need to use bankai if he can use temporary power surges matching its power, but if he's fighting a obviously powerful enemy like one of the espada or aizen he can go bankai from the start when he's 100% and do his thing, its something that the series has never seen and its balanced as well as bad ass
Also I remember reading your fan comics of Isshin’s Bankai. They were amazing. I think the idea of Isshin basically becoming an elemental fire god is incredible! That would take a toll on his body. (Imagine if that’s a Shiba trait, mastering elements.).
My idea for isshin’s bankai is similar to ichigo’s inital bankai, him condensing all of his flames into a sword shape. But because he condenses all of his flames into a blade shape, the pressure would be enormous. Kind of like filling a balloon with more air, if isshin can’t contain the flames, he’d pop. That’s why he needs to be in top shape to use bankai.
I’m sorry to ruin your comment, but wow that turned into talking about inflation fetish like mainly because you added the he’ll pop not like literally i assume but it just gives me some interesting thoughts lol.
@@KNullHypothesisWhy not a blood, and fire mixed cloak that he can grab from to fire himself up more but for more intense sacrifice like more of his normal blood, and decrease of time duration for the form the bigger the buff.
before watching the video: I always toughut Engetsu to be a counterpart to Sode No Shirayuki, as in a Zanpakutou that increases the body heat and weaponizes it, like Sode decresces it, as it is mentioned that if Ishin gets too wounded, he can't use it
I've alwase figured his Bankai was like Rukias in the way it puts the body in a state where it is extremely vulnerable. Rukia effectively becomes the definition of a glass cannon as she can practically one shot everyone, at the cost of being able to be one shot herself. In Isshins case, I agree the idea his Bankai is basically to boil/ignite his blood as jet fuel to increase his strength/spreed etc... at the cost of his blood slowly burning itself away.
Tenza Zangetsu -> Guren Engetsu Blood as Catalyst makes sense, the bankai increasing his bloodflow( royal blood no less) would mean that it would likely kill him if he activated while heavily wounded. Basically fire Sode
Given his personality, it always felt to me that Isshins zanpakuto was more about the “sacrifice” than being literally about the blood or fuel. In shikai he can use his blood as a sacrifice to amplify its power and for different abilities. In translation to bankai, its his reiatsu. Thats why Aizen injured him, if he cant perfectly control his reiatsu then his bankai becomes uncontrollable and he could literally burn himself and everything else away. Form wise, I could see it being a mix between Mugetsu and ZnT:West As far as the technique, I think its just that: a technique. One only achieved by the strongest soul reapers given enough time and “bonding” or “symbiosis” with ones zanpakuto. The fact the Isshin has “achieved” should be a testament to his abilities
I think Isshin is my favorite character (well, the whole Shiba clan is fascinating, Kukkaku, Ganju and Kaien as well). I truly hope we get to Isshin’s bankai it in either the anime or Hell arc.
Can’t believe I just realized that ichigo’s war arc form is supposed to look similar to ishin’s shinigami form, there are so many small things I learn about this series through your videos!
Maybe Isshin's bankai is similar to Rukia's only with fire instead of ice? Perhaps he becomes a pillar of fire or something and If he's not careful he could burn up as a result?
@@felipesantos-er4kk Well, my idea sounds kinda dumb when you put it like that! :) You're not wrong. We really don't have much to go on... it's likely fire-related and it apparently takes a huge toll on his body. Rukia and Toshiro both have ice-type zanpakuto but they are completely different. I would hope the same would be true for Isshin and Yamamoto.
@@michaelstetson6890 I kinda wonder if with the reveal if its even a ice type zanpakuto anymore, if you think about it the other ice types create and manipulate ice, but Rukia's allows her to control the cold itself. So maybe Isshin's could allow him to control heat? But Yamamoto can already kinda do that too where he becomes too hot to get too close to.
Okay so i don't often do this and even though i like bleach i'm not the biggest fan of it. I don't speak japanese, i barely even understand anything, but as everyone has realized both Ichigo's and Isshin's sword has "getsu" in their name. Now given that Isshin is part of the shiba clan and Getsuga Tenshou(since it also has moon in it) quite possibly being a secret technique of the shiba clan itself, it's not a surprise. Isshin's sword, Engetsu, the name contains the kanji derived from the word "kaen" which means flame in japanese and getsu which is derived from the word "mangetsu" for full moon in japanese you could translate Engetsu as something like "burning moon" or "flaming moon" or if you wanna go with it, you could call it "moonfire" i guess. I'm pretty sure i'm just being really obvious so far. Isshin using his blood as a fuel for the fire and considering how ichigo becomes sort of one with his blade, yes, him having a similar technique wouldn't be suprising. But if you think about the fact that they say that using his bankai would take a huge toll on him, and him using his blood as fuel, i'm fairly certain he would become one with the fire tself being able to reach heat levels rivaling if not overshadowing yamamoto's. Now there's no sing or any mention of him being able to manipulate other people's blood or using that as fuel, but maybe in his bankai form, he could just enter other people's bodies and burn them from the inside-out. Maybe even reach the speed of light since his body would possibly cease to have any mass whatsoever. Incredibly fast, incredibly strong, but it would consume him as well. And i'm farily certain that the reason his sword's spirit refused to teach him the final getsuga tenshou is not because it would consume all of his spirit energy, but it would consume isshin himself. Just my thoughts on the matter, i hope whoever reads this enjoyed it.
I like the idea that it's an internal flame, but to the point that his body is NEVER enveloped in flame UNLESS he's cut. It would sort of burst out from his wounds and work exactly as you described but just losing that visual and we replace it with smoke coming off his skin and coming out of his mouth
Engetsu is a fire type zanpakutou but it can also fire Getsuga Tenshou similar to Zangetsu. So I think that your second idea is probably closer to the truth, meaning that Engetsu's bankai is similar to Zangetsu's but only a fire version of it. So my guess is that Engetsu's bankai is something similar to Yamamoto's Zanka no Tachi: West, where Yama's body is engulfed by fire. As for Isshin tyring to learn/knowing the Final Getsuga Tenshou. My guess is that he leared it after his fight with White. He guessed that someone was conspiring against the Soul Society and probably created that hollow so he realised that this person is obviously very devious and powerful which is why he needed something that powerful.
This Comment may have spoilers for you I agree with your zanpakuto explanation but for the final getsuga tenshou I think he probably learned it decades ago. Isshin has been partners with his zanpukto for probably over 100 years. Eventually he had probably discovered the true abilities of his blade including the funal getsuga. He just chose not to use it due to never needing to fight an AIZEN level threat. After fighting White he lost his powers so he couldn't even speak to Engetsu, let alone train his powers to new levels.
I'll be honest, the idea that Engetsu goes from one blade to two blades makes way more sense when you consider that the true Zangetsu goes from two blades to one. The second Bankai idea also sounds quite plausible too. I always love your ideas Tommo.
I like your 2nd theory, I think of his bankai and shikai involves being able to light things on fire. Stuff that has a high reishi concentration (like his blood maybe) has more destructive power when he catches it on fire. That said, I love the creativity that you displayed with your first theory and the fan comic you made of Isshin fighting Cang Du!
I agree, it has to be some clad type of bankai that changes his form due to Ichigo’s bankai, which also puts a lot of stress on his body, and what Aizen told us.
After you explained the original idea you had for his bankai, I wasn't sure how you could top it, but I love where you went with your new idea. Both illustrations are great, but the improvements you've made over the years in regards to your artistic abilities are nothing short of amazing. I'm adding that to my wallpaper line up. I don't know what Kubo is planning, but it's gonna be hard to top your idea of Isshin's bankai!! GREAT WORK!!!!
You had some really good thoughts and theories. It is hard to think about a bankai that is too taxing on the body that the user can't use it if they're too badly wounded. Meeting the criteria of using his own blood and such to power his bankai makes a lot of sense.
First, your personal drawings are actually amazing. I would have thought Kubo himself drew these! Secondly, I actually prefer the first idea for Bankai with the duel swords. That idea would be amazing in anime.
Maaaan Tommo you never MISS! Ive always thought about this and your concept art and ideas REALLY bring it to life. Cant wait to see it on Instagram my man.
I like the second idea. It fits, that his blood fuels his bankais time limit. He is constantly refered tk as hot blooded or refers to it. Maybe smoke is a by prodect of using it.
Isshin is in my top 5 favorites. Cool Bankai ideas. One thing I thought we might see from Yama’s Bankai and it’s tie to fire is a dragon ability of some kind…maybe Isshin’s Bankai could adopt that idea in some way. That moment we he flicks Aizen with his middle finger with the smirk on his face will forever be one of my favorite moments in the series.
Based on the hereditary implications I always assumed Isshin's bankai would be almost exactly like Ichigo's except with the getsuga tensho's being made of Fire rather than Hollow esque Cero's. It'd be a huge speed buff, maybe with like when he moves quick he leaves trails of fire that strain him based on Aizen's comment
I like the Phoenix idea a lot. The other idea i had was a sort of Kagustuchi God of the Forge type of Fire Bankai. Engetsu seemed to gain power from being quenched in his blood but only after he released the shikai, sort of starting to heat the forge up. Once the forge is at prime temperature he could create flaming weapons, such as a hammer blast foes with heat like a blast furnace. He could also fix any damage to his weapon or limbs if he could supply the metal needed, his blood or spiritual pressure. This tracks with being too injured to use Bankai, as weakened metal would crack and break under high heat conditions of a forge. Lastly, once a forge has gone cold it takes a long time to heat until it's at working temperature again...which tracks with Engetsu needing 20 years to return to a usable state. As a captain the 'forge' was always at a running temperature which only took a little work to start the Bankai. Thoughts?
Your art is very well drawn. Its distinctly unique while maintaining the spirit of Kubo's style, very well theories. I would like you to do go over more of your fan stories
With the blood being the fuel, I think it would actually be better for the fire to be internal rather than a cloak around him. His blood would burn in his lungs where it meets the air, as well as any wounds. If he is cut in Bankai the fires would cauterize the wound quickly, but having such a deep cut would turn his Bankai into an explosion rather than a burn. This would also allow you to bring in the smoking. Imagine this: Isshin activates his bankai and the flames diappear, then the next panel is a close up on his mouth where a trail of smoke drifts out.
There are so many Bankais that have yet to be seen or introduced and honestly, I'm still personally annoyed we never got to see Yoruichi's Zanpakuto in any fashion. Its the one I truly wanted to see the most. Also, does anyone else think there should be an evolution to Bankai? Shikai is the Reaper gaining an understanding of their Zanpakuto and Bankai is forcing their Zanpakuto into absolute submission but does anyone think their should be another form beyond that? Something like a Shinkai or True Release where the Shinigami merges with their Zanpakuto spirit and becomes a whole, hybrid form?
That's basically what mugetsu was. As far as we know only Aizen and Ichigo ever achieved it. Hopefully if the hell arc ever continues we see more of it.
Would be cool, and if they are going to keep the series going they will have to do something like that because of "power creep". It would be interesting to see it go from submission to something like cooperation or some other combined aspect instead of it being forced and I feel that would make sense in a evolution of learning about yourself way.
I know this is not exactly related to Isshin's Bankai, but how and why can he use the Getsuga Tensho to begin with? I've always had the idea that maybe it's a technique from the Shiba Clan itself. That would explain why Isshin knows about Mugetsu. About Ichigo's Mugetsu being black, my theory is that maybe Zangetsu's ability has been the hollowification all along, and his very first Bankai was essentially an incomplete version of the hollowification ability, which would explain the black getsuga(and why it becomes yellow again when he gets his true bankai).
Your second Bankai idea reminds me of a cross between Endeavor’s Hellfire quirk from MHA and Guy’s Night Guy technique from Naruto where after a certain point, their power has a toll on their body (obviously with Guy dying).
I really hope we get to look back to this video a few months from now and see how accurate those predictions were (If we get Isshin's Bankai during this arc)
Would've loved to see this bankai in the TYBW arc. Personally I would have Isshin use it against Ywach's stolen Zanka no Tachi. Since Zanka no Tachi is so hot, maybe it would have a negative effect where it would make fire zanpakutous around it stronger, thus giving Isshin's bankai a chance.
Interesting theory. Like several others his Bankai certainly is chance and risk related especially with the injury required to fuel it. Either way I would hope we see or at least get more info on it the upcoming anime and maybe even the hell arc itself. Imagine that, Isshin's fire against the demons of hell in defense of his home.
I like the idea of the smoke and fire bankai and I understand where you were coming from with the idea. The only issue is that Isshin would have achieved bankai some time before he met Masaki and being influenced by her to smoke so that imprinting upon his soul to manifest as his bankai wouldn't be a thing unless Isshin was a smoker before as well or if his bankai evolves later perhaps being a beyond bankai thing. Nice theory video nonetheless.
Oh another idea could be that his Bankai is actually more like magma/lava that is produced from his blood. His blood can turn into like lava slashes or whips but of course that means he loses blood and can become weaker the more lava techniques he uses. It still relates to flames however is very distinct from the existing fire type Zanpakuto's in the series
I think that you could theorize his Bankai to be loosely related to Kagu-tsuchi, the fire god. Izanagi, his father, had cut him into pieces to create new gods. So perhaps the physical toll on his body is when he releases his Bankai, fire slice his body and uses his blood for fueling the power of his flames. He may even have to slice himself to release it. I imagine his Shikai to then take the form of a giant Polearm. And similar to Ichigo, to be cloaked in a Samurai style of body armor.
I’m actually hoping that they change up the scene with Isshin vs White, and have him attempt to use bankai only to be attacked while activating it. Since Engetsu has the ability to use blood as flames that does explain why it could take a toll on his body. So it’d be in the same category as Rukia and Zaraki’s, being more of a self damaging in exchange for how strong the abilities are type. A transformation bankai, but the longer you use it the more at risk you are. I also wonder if the Final Getsuga Tensho is a Shiba clan technique and each of them have some version of it that sacrifices their powers in exchange for a fatal final blow. Otherwise it doesnt make much since for Isshin to not only know he has it but has knowledge that Ichigo would be able to do it too.
7:55 I really doubt Kubo planned to reveal his Bankai. He mentioned 2 different times why Isshin couldn't use it, just to make sure we understand he wasn't able to go all out against White, for the plot to continue with Masaki's sacrifice
well, it seems like he is saying : he would habe to be in perfect place to effectively use it, or else damage himself and his surroundings a lot so it looks like he was setting up a future moment in which he would be pushed to do it, even without the ideal conditions
Great idea for a video! Curious too with all the fanservice that Bleach Brave Souls does they haven't yet come out with a bankai for him yet. Also I think your art looks great Tommo! Please feel free to show it off more!
The second Bankai theory reminds me of two things (and both of which, I like). 1: It reminds me of how Rukia's Bankai (Hakka no Togame) allows herself to almost become an avatar of Sode no Shirayuki, and drop her temperature to absolute zero. Only, I suppose, _in reverse._ (Perhaps this can even be his version of the "Final GetsugaTenshou") And also, considering both the Kuchkis and Shibas are great noble families, as well as Rukia's personal relationship to the Shiba clan - this feels like a Kubo-esque nod to their parallels. I can absolutely see Kubo doing something like this. Also: Shiba's love to blow shit up, don't they? Explosive people who love to use close quarters combat. Boom! Lastly, it keeps in theme of a Clad-Type Bankai, much like Ichigo - again, tying parallels together. 2: _"The Blade IS Me."_
Side note: The whole aspect of the Bankai being set on a time limit also reminds me of Hitsugaya's imperfect Bankai - almost having somewhat of a timer. Once again with Parallels, Isshin was his Captain, and he took over Isshin's squad. Not to mention, they have very opposite personalities, too. Fire and Ice.
I have 2 ideas, but I'm not entirely happy with either of them. I really like your ideas more, especially the idea of incorporating smoke. The first I imagined being like the tailed beast chakra form Naruto has whenever he loses control. In that state, the skin tears open and his blood pours out to mix with a chakra cloak, giving him this red chakra tailed beast form. I imagined Isshin being similar exept with fire. In that form, any injury bleeds profusely, aggressively fueling the flames he's cloaked in, making him increasingly stronger, but at the cost of his body. It would be like a weird fusion of Zanka No Tachi: West, and the Miracle but without the regeneration aspect. The second idea I had was a Bankai very similar to Ichigo's first, but with a shihakusho made of fire/blood. He could use augmented fire getsuga tenshous for ranged attacks and his cloak would push his physical abilties to the limit while simultaneously burning/melting anyone or anything that got too close.
I like your ideas though I believe the second one is closer to what Kubo would have done given that Mugestu is Ichigo becoming Getsuga. Ishiin's bankai should have him becoming some sort of power from his sword.
My short and simple theory is his sword is empowered by blood but it doesn't have to be his own. And Bankai would ignite blood within the vicinity of the blade or draw blood to it to enhance. And the danger is these effects would also work on Isshin.
I kinda thought his bankai would be similar to Rukias, where it's more of an area of affect type but with his body generating extreme heat and flames. If it let him make bigger flames, it would just be a weaker version of yamas, and if it gave him flame hakuda, it would just make it seem like a flame Shunko. But we know that Rukias bankai takes a toll on her body and she'd likely have issues using it if she was too injured, hence why I like to think his is similar.
I made a fanfiction some years ago about Kazui. Ichigo had a flashback chapter where he, Isshin, and several other characters are killed by a new threat. Isshin wore a similar cloak to Ichigo with a slightly modified version of his Captain's shihakusho over it. Isshin's cloak though is somewhat shorter than Ichigo's, and possesses pockets, convenient for his cigarettes and lighter. Almost reminiscent of a denim jacket you might see in the 90s. His cloak/jacket is tattered like his son's, but his tatters are ablaze with white-blue reiatsu. As he fights, the blue flame grows to encompass both himself and his blade, burning himself as well as his foes. It skips the idea of blood as a fuel, and just burns himself and his reiatsu directly. His blade is a quite long blade like a tachi, perhaps longer. As he fights, it's burnjng like a candle, or a cigarette, becoming gradually stronger, but progressively shorter. If the blade burns out, Isshin dies. No more reiatsu to sustain his exsitence, no more reishi to hold a body. Which, as it turns out, is how he dies in my story.
I'm seriously hoping that Kubo shows shikai and bankai that wasn't in the manga since it was rushed and he said he was expanding upon fights and such in the anime adaptation. There's too many zanpakuto releases that we never got to see that we definitely should have.
While this may seem a little basic, an idea that I have always had for Isshin’s Bankai is a superheated katana that can soften and cut through “allegedly” anything. It’s name was Jigoku no Hi Engetsu, meaning Hellfire Scathing Moon.
3:48 in a way it could have! Isshin’s shinigami powers were being used to sustain his wife’s human form and suppress the hollow. Since Ichigo inherited the hollow in utero, wouldn’t Isshin’s shinigami powers also shift to suppress the hollow within ichigo? So from the moment of conception, Isshin’s soul has been interacting with Ichigo to keep him human and alive, therefore it could be argued that his involvement left some impact on Ichigo’s forming soul. Zanpakto are uniquely born alongside their wielder’s soul, so it is possible that the Zanpakto was affected by Isshin’s.
Of course Ichigo’s mom fell for Isshin. He’s the hottest guy in Karakura Town lol. Edit: it’s a joke lol. Isshin’s zanpakuto is a fire type. Fire is “hot”.
Right off the bat. 1:40 I'm going to say that it's Ichigo's first initial zanpakuto from the very beginning as far as looks go. As it is likely the furthest thing from the hollow within old man zangetsu would allow to show, given his distaste as a Quincy for the representation of a soul reaper present within White that he eventually admits to later on. That based on Ichigo's original inability to keep his zanpakuto in normal sword appearance would likely be a unrestrained look of his father's previous zanpakuto appearance. And given Ichigo's naturally high pressure, very well the bankai.
I had thought about it but you might be onto something with smoke being something a part of it, when I thought about the name and something that could possibly be a match for his Bankai I was thinking he'd have the secondary element of water, making a steam based Zanpakuto that's power relies on moisture from his body and using his blood as the fuel for it but it can probably only be used at it's best when Isshin himself hasn't sustained any form of decent damage that could affect him in a fight since his Bankai doesn't heal him, his abilities are obviously amplified in a way that works with his mixed element of steam, it'd be kind of like Haineko where his blade can turn into an element and he can use it at a range, but it also gives him the ability to mess with the opponent's sight by making mirages with the steam and not only that but the blade can still take physical form and the steam itself is extremely hot, which is why I thought about steam being related to his Bankai in some way, if his Bankai ability has something to do with water vapor it would explain why he couldn't use it when he was cut, there's also a possibility that it's just a hotter flame like it turns blue or something but I think steam would make more sense.
I feel like your direction is accurate, that consistent use of his Bankai requires the blood in his body to work properly. With less blood before use, he could scorch himself to ash from attempting to use it without the fuel required. Burnout
I'd say; lean into the "liquid fire" aspect of the art in what we have seen, maybe the reason it takes a toll is that the ability makes his blood highly flammable or even pyrophoric, so being injured is creating an open leak of fire, the benefit being he has a bankai that is basically napalm: laying walls of fire, breathing fire, and any hit he takes is almost guaranteed to leave that napalm blood on the person that dealt it. He wouldn't want to be hurt and having major injury makes it hard to control his 'napalm' in a way that is safe.
What do you think of my ideas for Isshin's Bankai? Do you have any? And what do you think of Engetsu in general? Let me know!
Controlling the body heat of others; eg he can increase the temperature of other items/people to the point of spontaneous combustion
Or something like Zanka no Tachi.
Zanka no tachi Lite ?
Really like this idea! And if so, it'd be such a powerful bankai too.
Yoooooo, I like this idea, it actually makes considerable sense. Most of the flames when Isshin swings Engetsu DO resemble phoenix wings. The tassels could likely be the tail in that instance.
So far from what I’ve read in the comments so far this is the one I like the most so far.
This
This is rlly such a cool theory , maybe we'll get to see flaming wings and ice wings from isshin and toshiro in hell arc
@@Smithysmithin I love this
I've always considered him to be a second generation captain and a contemporary of both ukitake and shunsui.
It could work both with his blood fueling flames that make him stronger, thus limiting the time he can use it and making it dificult to start, and also burning up other's reiatsu to directly damage them, the surrounding area and additionally possibly impeding them of using some powers.
i thought engetsu translated into blood moon
nevermind means crescant moon or old moon
11:17 Give yourself a bunch of credit Mr. Tommo. This drawing of Isshin looks SO immaculate!
Edit: Nvm guys he already called it
Great mind’s think alike
ichigo's zanpakuto has merged with hollow powers, meaning his bonkai was probably effected by it also. ishin isn't the same, his shinigami powers are purely shinigami, meaning using ichigos abilities as a base for speculation doesn't really make sense. since they are fundamentally different.

He could be the only fire type zanpakuto user that doesn't actually have a fire ability, it could be more a conciquence of his actual ability and creative fighting style.
the thing that makes Engetsu tough to speculate about is that Kubo tries his best to make zanpakuto of the same element very distinct, the main example being Rukia and Toshiro, Rukia's focuses on cold and Toshiro's focuses more on generating large quantities of ice and manipulating all the water in the atmosphere
You can't really do this with Engetsu though because Ryujin Jakka and Zanka no Tachi do basically everything you could imagine a fire zanpakuto doing
My only guess is that maybe Isshin's bankai is a big, one time use nuke like Soi Fon's and so when he was injured it was too risky to use because without 100% control it could've hurt him and destroy the surrounding area
I always viewed Toshiro as manipulating water through all of its forms while Rukia manipulating temperature itself.
What about steam base bankai like steams makes smoke
I think we all should remember the moment when Ichigo reiatsu evaporated the ocean when his real swords were forged. So I think that Getsuga Tensho is actually a fire attack - a very condensed blue flame. Just a thing to think about
So I would assume that his dad has some degree of control there.
I would assume his Bankai would be the opposite of Rukia’s then, where he himself goes to a pinnacle of heat and he’s body morphs to some form that presents that
So the head captains bankai
That was with Bankai not zanpukto
@@A_Black_Sheep94 That was referring to bankai being rare in the Gotei 13. Zanpakutos are given to every shinigami. What I meant was that Ichigo is a rare case of a human being born to a shinigami and inheriting some of his powers.
@@iReiGNxx Not every member of a family is capable of becoming a Shinigami, father and son both becoming Shinigami is rare.
If a Zanpaktous Bankai requires you to not be hurt to use and your Shikai requires you to be hurt to use thats not very good.
@@big_gucci_scorpio328 He used his blood in his Shikai to empower his attacks and wasn't able to use his Bankai because he was hurt 🤷🏻♂️
The fact you made own fiction for the anime is another level.
Soooooo...something like Zanka no Tachi East?
Yeah this is way too much like Yamamoto's, even more so than just having a flame cloak. Because at least Yamamoto's wasn't even flame, it was reiatsu
So basically just Yamamoto’s East ability but with more drawbacks
Tenza Zangetsu -> Guren Engetsu
Blood as Catalyst makes sense, the bankai increasing his bloodflow( royal blood no less) would mean that it would likely kill him if he activated while heavily wounded.
Form wise, I could see it being a mix between Mugetsu and ZnT:West
As far as the technique, I think its just that: a technique.
Yamamoto Shikai then
@@felipesantos-er4kk Well, my idea sounds kinda dumb when you put it like that!
But Yamamoto can already kinda do that too where he becomes too hot to get too close to.
was thinking same.
Holy crap, those drawings look really cool! I'd actually love to see your fan comics someday!
This Comment may have spoilers for you
I agree with your zanpakuto explanation but for the final getsuga tenshou I think he probably learned it decades ago.
I just want to give a slow clap to Kubo for just having the creativity to come up with soooo many different swords and their powers 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I'll be honest, the idea that Engetsu goes from one blade to two blades makes way more sense when you consider that the true Zangetsu goes from two blades to one. The second Bankai idea also sounds quite plausible too. I always love your ideas Tommo.
i’ve been waiting for you to go fully in-depth about his bankai for a long time
The artwork at 13:22 is stunning I’m really taken aback by its beauty
You're killing it Tommo. Can't wait for Oct 10th.
"Crude"???!! Tommo! Youre a great artist! I wanna see more of this from you in your videos your art is awsome!
I like the second idea. It fits, that his blood fuels his bankais time limit. He is constantly refered tk as hot blooded or refers to it. Maybe smoke is a by prodect of using it.
A Yoshimitsu-esque/ghost rider appearance for his Bankai!
He could spew out flaming dragons like dragon damnation from Zoro’s, newest skill set with the enema.
I've always been more interested in finding out about his bankai than Aizen's. I really hope we get to see him use it in the anime.
Bro I didn’t know you drew so well.
I like the second Bankai idea. I think it’s more in line with what Kubo would’ve come up with.
2 thumbs up for your original and updated artwork man!
Thoughts?
I’d love to see isshin maybe train his grandson on how to use bankai.
BLOOD IS FUEL *Slices up everything in sight* Ultrakill but you play as Isshim lol.
I feel that's what Mugetsu just if he went even further he would not lose his powers. And Aizen has reached that platform
That's basically what mugetsu was. As far as we know only Aizen and Ichigo ever achieved it. Hopefully if the hell arc ever continues we see more of it.
@@goldoan I want Ichigo to recover that power but without the drawback
That supposedly what the Beyond Bankai forms from Bleach brave Souls are. As well as what TYBW Aizen and Dangai Ichgo most likely are.
10/10 video very interesting 👍👍 you are my fav youtuber forever^^
I mean, that finger flick sending Aizen flying was gangster AF, yet Aizen stops with Zangrtsu with one finger. Though that was the soul society arc.
I really hope we get to look back to this video a few months from now and see how accurate those predictions were (If we get Isshin's Bankai during this arc)
This was bad ass man, great content as always!!!!!
I didn't know you were an artist! And damn good one at that!
His Bankai requires him not to he injured to use it.
Now that I think about it, the fact that he fought against Aizen w/o Shikai or Bankai is just mental, truly shows how powerful he is.
That would also explain why a deep wound could stop him, he's lost too much blood to use it.
7:55 I really doubt Kubo planned to reveal his Bankai. He mentioned 2 different times why Isshin couldn't use it, just to make sure we understand he wasn't able to go all out against White, for the plot to continue with Masaki's sacrifice
well, it seems like he is saying : he would habe to be in perfect place to effectively use it, or else damage himself and his surroundings a lot
so it looks like he was setting up a future moment in which he would be pushed to do it, even without the ideal conditions
Great idea for a video!
Curious too with all the fanservice that Bleach Brave Souls does they haven't yet come out with a bankai for him yet. Also I think your art looks great Tommo! Please feel free to show it off more!
Isshin is such a cool character, and a mysterious one if that. There is still a lot we don’t know about him.
i have a feeling that isshin is secretly one of the strongest soul reapers ever, on the level of kenpachi
Been waiting on this video for a long time 🔥🔥
The second Bankai theory reminds me of two things (and both of which, I like).
I prefer the 2nd version, smoke could still be included in it as a secondary effect of the bankai, since Yamamoto's also has multiple sub-abilities.
6:06 "long flame" my guessing is its like the hodou no. 99's dragon but red color
Bro those drawings are actually pretty dope! Don't sell yourself short
I usually don't like fan-fic, but honestly the connection to him having a smoke type bankai and how it tied into him as a character seemed spot on.
Great concepts! Good idead tieing the smoking to his bankai, gives it a bit more substance
I like your ideas though I believe the second one is closer to what Kubo would have done given that Mugestu is Ichigo becoming Getsuga. Ishiin's bankai should have him becoming some sort of power from his sword.
I like how your version of his Bankai is like a flaming version of Shunko that Soi Fon and Yoruichi use.
I’m loving all of the theories and speculations in the comments. Very interesting. I hope they show his Bankai in the anime
I actually like your second theory, it makes a lot of sense
The idea of Isshin's bankai turning him into a melee fighter has me imagining him pulling some Horah Loux type grab moves on Yhwach or Aizen
Love the drawings, dope video idea
Of course Ichigo’s mom fell for Isshin. He’s the hottest guy in Karakura Town lol.
Edit: it’s a joke lol. Isshin’s zanpakuto is a fire type. Fire is “hot”.
I fell for you 👉👈
what about ichigo
she should have fell for ichigo
why not ichigo
ichigo
Weird , how fire based zanpakutōs wielders are listed but my girl Momo Hinamori didn't get a mention but I understand she was more of a kiddo user.
Right off the bat. 1:40
I'm going to say that it's Ichigo's first initial zanpakuto from the very beginning as far as looks go.
Burnout
I'm a simple man, I see Isshin, I click
I'd say; lean into the "liquid fire" aspect of the art in what we have seen, maybe the reason it takes a toll is that the ability makes his blood highly flammable or even pyrophoric, so being injured is creating an open leak of fire, the benefit being he has a bankai that is basically napalm: laying walls of fire, breathing fire, and any hit he takes is almost guaranteed to leave that napalm blood on the person that dealt it. He wouldn't want to be hurt and having major injury makes it hard to control his 'napalm' in a way that is safe.
