The Shield is an American crime drama television series starring Michael Chiklis that premiered on March 12, 2002, on FX in the United States, and concluded on November 25, 2008, after seven seasons. Known for its portrayal of corrupt police officers, it was originally advertised as Rampart in reference to the true-life Rampart Division police scandal, on which the show's Strike Team was loosely based. The series was created by Shawn Ryan and The Barn Productions for Fox Television Studios and Sony Pictures Television.

New series only get more diluted as they squeeze peoples enthusiasm. The wire was very good but different I won't compare but I prefer the shield all day. LA boi.

When I said new series I was referring to the modern junk box sets and series.
The last scene of the show where Vic is alone at his desk is so powerfull. What an impressive TV show

There was NEVER a bad episode of this show. Yeah, maybe some were better than others, but there wasn't a single time I watched this series where I was bored or thought it had lost its appeal. A fantastic character study all the way to the very end.
Co-Pilot was pretty bad. But otherwise, I think the show holds up remarkably. well.
Exactly. Whereas the supposedly great "The Wire" had MANY boring episodes.
meh S4 and S6 were kinda boring but overall this was a great series. Also the best ending to a show.

shane and vic's last conversation, vic's meltdown in the hospital, ronnie's ending, lem's ending, shane's ending... a lot of great moments

Vic and Shane's last convo is so brutal. He already "won" but vic had to get the last word. Definitely think Shane would have spared them if they hadn't talked

what strikes me the most about the shield is that even the acting chops of the extras are top notch

Don’t remember what I felt the first time I watched it, but even now after watching the show for the 8th time or more it breaks my heart.

I've rewatched this entire series like 15 times from beginning to end and every time I get to this episode I get chills.
Rewatching it again.
The intensity gets you right away,and you have to keep watching because the intensity never stops.Brilliant writing-Directing-Acting-Everything!!!
When Wyms confronts Mackey in the interrogation room and reads Shane's letter is up there imo.
The double finale in general is one of the greatest ever TV experiences for me. Perfect ending to a classic series.

@@shoptalk7415 the only time Ive encountered a series ending in a shocking way that actually fit perfectly with the overarching thematic elements of the show. It’s incredible. I found the last season of The Wire, in contrast, to be a serious decline in quality especially the faux serial killer plot device and the finale episode came across as attempting to wrap things up already which sacrificed the slower coalescence style pacing of the earlier seasons. Anyway, sorry for the long and months late reply, all this just to say that The Shield is so underrated to this day.
Notice how Vic is sitting on the suspects side of the table. When Claudette is watching him on the camera and he notices, that one still shot of Vic on the camera looking menacing as hell before he rips it off the wall was one of, if not my favorite scene in the whole series
One of the greatest series ever. The only series I ever watched from start to finish.
One of the most important moments is in Co-Pilot, when they first plant evidence to gain a conviction. Shane and Vic look at each other and say "It was easy, wasn't it?"
The scene where Vic comes home to an empty house. The song was perfect, Chiklis's performance was great.
Now THAT was a scene...
Vic almost clawing at his chest knowing his wife and children are gone....one of the few times I actually felt for Vic.

1 of the best scenes in my opinion is the scene at the end when Claudette and Vic sit down and talk .... the energy between those 2 actors was incredible
The scene in "Trophy" where Mackey baits Kavanaugh to ruin their Russian Prescription Drug Sting was also EPIC.
Kavanaugh SHIT ALL OVER their sting!!! 😂
I forgot how awesome Glenn Close was in this. I was surprised that she would be in something like this but she was brilliant and I liked the chemistry between her and Mackey.
Season 4 is my favorite because of Glenn motherf***ing Close.
She is just amazing, and I love the dynamic between her and Vic so much.
This series as a whole is crazy underrated, especially since we had series like Breaking Bad taking the spotlight.
The show, the actors and this season deserves more praise.
One thing I'll add is that a lot of people have seen and loved Sons Of Anarchy, but are not aware that SOA might not have been this successful without The Shield first.
Plus, the easter eggs Sutter brought are just delightful!

It set her up for Damages
The scene when she realizes she's being fired is gold. Rewatched the show recently and that scene stood out for me.
A show full of big, scary, tough guys and this lioness roars over all of them.
The first scene is brutal. Especially knowing that Kavanauggh was bluffing about putting Lem in prison.
I remember back in 2003 getting goosebumps watching them looking over the money train cash. Aside from The Sopranos and The Wire, there was very little else good on TV at the time. The Shield was a great surprise.

One of the best shows on TV I've ever seen with probably the best and most consistent ending to a T.V. series.

Lem dying is the best scene. It’s haunting and the acting is incredible. Walton Groggins kills it and you can feel his pain when he just keeps saying he’s sorry over and over. It’s an amazing and raw scene and it absolutely put the show on its path to its finish.

No matter how many times I watch the clip of Shane hightailing it out of the barn, I will ALWAYS get goosebumps. That scene was one of those "oh shit" atom bombs... like when Hank found out Walter was Heisenberg.

The scene with the Money Train loot is the beginning of the end.
That scene was so well done. In most movies and TV shows when the main guys pull off a big robbery they're all happy and celebrating and drinking champagne. This is much more real, they are silently freaking out because they have this huge stack of cash to deal with now.
The pilot was the beginning of the end, when Vic killed Terry Crowley. All down hill from there.

So freaking good. The way he acted it out, it really felt like the first time he said that out loud.
This series still holds up.
Honorable mentions: Shane asking Vic for help with Antwon Mitchell after they bugged his car, “You’re my friend” 😢 and the interrogation room with Shane and Antwon, when Shane tried to make Antwon go for his gun. Great list!!!

watching this show again recently..ive seen it numerous times but a lot of the story is just as relevant today ive noticed.
Goddamn this show was so damn good, and it's a crime that it didn't get the recognition it truly deserved.
Sometimes I wonder what else Vic confessed after "How much memory does that thing have?" line
Probably confessed to the JFK assassination and what happened to Jimmy Hoffa

One of the rare instances where a series began on top and ended on top. This show and The Wire both never had a subpar season
Think my favorite is Mackey facing Claudette in the last episode, when she tells him about Shane, and then him starting to leave, Claudette getting her win over him and Ronnie getting arrested. This is just the one that comes to mind.
The intensity of every episode after shit started to go bad has never been matched....Awesome to watch in the mid 2000s....
Only show that gets better after every season.. its criminally underrated hopefully they bring it back with Vic as a fed or following claudette and dutch
So the song choices in certain scenes was impeccable, Live for the Money Train, Nutshell, Smashing Pumpkins, this show was so awesome

That whole scene where Kavannaugh realises Vick and Lem were watching him on cctv comfort his missus, they try and make a run for it because Kavannaugh twigged he's being watched so because he's so pissed at their eavesdropping he has Lem arrested on the spot and thrown in the station cage with all the other criminals.......

I saw this show on a list and just finish watching it and Wow! This show is underrated one of the best shows I watched but nobody talk much about it maybe because it was on Fx and not HBO? This is up there with breaking bad , the wire etc that always get mentioned!
Honestly you can take five random scenes from the show and it'll better than most cop shows today.
With exception to Blue Bloods which is also great.
Capt. Rawling breaking Antwon in the interrogation room, Shane and Vics last phone conversation, Shane trying to rob the cokeheads, The strike team break up fight, Shane coming clean about Antwon, Shane killing Lem, Vic exposing Shane killing Lem, Claudette ranting on Aceveda and Vic, and on Billimgs and the chief, Kavanaugh and the fake russian deal, Emolias interrogation and Kavanaughs confession, Kavanaughs rant, Claudette and Dutchs interrogations, Aceveda pulling manipulations and skeems out of his ass to cover up his messes and his rape.
Not complaining, theres just so much good scenes to pick from.
wow thank god I'm not the only one who remembers Aceveda getting raped at gunpoint. That literally scarred me watching it as a teenager lol But i always remember the episodes right after that one. Benito Martinez's acting was absolutely unbelievable how good he played the whole PTSD thing after being sexually violated.
The number two scene, where the guy confesses Shane ordered the hit. Six seasons of build-up, so insanely brilliant.
One of the best shows ever. "Victor Samuel Mackey" is the best scene though. Not merely in the Shield, but in the history of scripted television.
I rewatched the show a couple of weeks ago, in 6 days!
I'm really glad you gave Glenn Close some love.
Season 4 is my favorite because of her, her performance and her relationship with Vic. Just great.

Lem, the good guy got killed by a team member. Shane, the bad guy killed himself.
Vick, the leader got himself out but without his family.
And Ronnie, the sucker, got jail time..

Glad to see Trains of Money at #4. Without even one line of dialogue the viewer can tell that every member of the strike team is thinking, "Oh shit, what have we done"
However, I'm disappointed Lem's Death didn't make this top 5. Best scene in any TV show I've ever watched. Walton Goggins' performance in it was Emmy worthy!!!

I was at a friend's house and this came on and I was captivated by how fantastic it was, my friend recorded it for me and let me come over to see it whenever the house was quiet.

i have a hard time deciding if its my number 1 show ever or 2 just behind breaking bad but either way its fucking amazing.
It’s neck and neck man. For me it’s Breaking Bad just by a hair though because of the higher production value and had more of a tighter story. For me the two greatest shows ever made (Sopranos would be number 3).
It's between this, Breaking Bad and The Wire for me.
The scene where Mackey's wife leaves him and he ransacks his house with Coldplay playing.
It's really sad when Shane looks into the clubhouse before walking out there.
