This is the most underrated show of all time . It’s honestly a crime there are not multiple Emmy’s ! If anyone ever reads this , THANK YOU ! Also I love that the cast is so close and is proud of what they did . It’s not like other shows where everyone is bitter and angry!
You can thank shows like The Wire and The Sopranos for The Shield. Those shows opened the door for shows like this.
@@rolandmiller5456 The Wire came out the same time as The Shield. I often wonder if Shawn in way was influenced by The Wire because Season 4 was kinda Wire-esque.
@@rolandmiller5456 actually Hill Street Blues and Homicide Life On the street opened doors for all three of those shows and any modern drama today. So everyone should thank those two shows and pay them the respect they deserve.

Garrett Webster: Maybe The Sheild could be considered underrated for the first season, or second. But by season 3, everyone was figuring out just how awesome this show was; and it definitely began getting much more recognition.👍
Walton Goggins is one of the best actors working today. The shield, hateful 8, Justified, Vice Principals...
and his small role in Sons of Anarchy, which could have been a total joke or treated as only comedy relief, but his performance was brilliant and touching.

The Shield is one of the best written and acted shows ever. It stands the test of time. There has been nothing like it. I just finished watching it, again. I felt a loss when it ended.

I think I watched most of it when it was on TV in England. Then again, when the box set was released. And I've just finished watching it again on my phone. 😂
Man, you can see why Lem's death devastated the cast the way it did. Kenny is such a sensitive, thoughtful, likable guy.

Wonderful show. Pity Forest Whittaker wasn’t at this reunion - as his role on this show was his best ever work.

Didn’t watch the other one however, so can’t comment on it. Better show hi ever is The Wire, ever watch that?

It changed the look, tone and style of cop shows and tv dramas in general as well as made it possible for The Shield to even exist because Shawn Ryan was inspired by it and purposely took some of the style for The Shield. The Wire is highly overrated so no I don't watch it lol.

They were inspired by the Streets of San Francisco but so what ?…… DRAGNET ??…. Christ let it go - the SHIELD smashed down the door of TV shows of today ….. not pay tv like HBO -not knocking the Sappranos but not everyone has access to watch those programs back then or now : this show opened the flood gates for Rescue Me , SOA , Breaking Bad , OZARK and countless others
The intense personal bond that the cast still shares 20 years later is the true legacy of The Shield...
The Shield was ahead of its time, and WELL worth the watch!!!! This reunion only proves that when a crew gets together and it clicks, it REALLY CLICKS!!! Thank you for giving us 7 years of pure enjoyment!!!
Another show that would never be made today!
One of the best, realistic, dynamic shows ever been filmed. I watched it 7 times, and always get the same emotions from every damn scene. Gold collection!
I remember when Glenn Close was announced as the captain I was bummed out because I was looking forward to CCH becoming Captain. But Glenn Close was absolutely remarkable! Probably my favorite performance from her. That scene with her and Chiklis interrogating Antwon was so freaking amazing.

Not only that but the scene where she’s saying goodbye to Vic for the last time and Monica just breaks down into to tears when he leaves her house, I fucking felt that. I know what it’s like to try to be strong on the outside that your holding so much emotion and you wait till your alone to finally let it all out. Glenn Close was on point.
I just finished the show for the 3rd time. First time in 10+ years. Wow. I knew this was my favorite show....but i forgot how great it was. Now in my 30s i was able to appreciate it on a whole different level. The cinematography, the acting, the cameos, the writing...... personally i put this show above the sopranos. Fucking fantastic.

Same here, just finished it last week also third time and in my 30s. Damn i wish i could watch it for the first time again, but knowing how it ends and see everything unfolding... it was awesome and very hard to watch again.
Amazing how Shawn Ryan describes watching the Show with his daughter at the end.
The Show is really that good.
walter goggins deserved an emmy/golden globe for his performance as shane vendrell. he was also great on justified as boyd crowder and deserved to be awarded. he's an amazing and underrated actor the shield was robbed of many best writing/acting awards. the show had huge guest stars that killed it in their roles (forrest whitaker, glenn close, anthony anderson)

Glad CCH gets the props she most definitely deserves from everyone. She's one of the most talented actors on the planet, full stop.
The director was fantastic...the zooming in during iconic scenes made it something totally different i hadn't seen in other cop dramas...best tv series of all time...any time a cast member is on another show it automatically grabs my attention...the ENTIRE cast...

It's weird seeing Vic Mackey and David Aceveda laughing and joking together.
You gotta be good friends to pull off a constantly fluctuating animosity like that throughout a whole series.
Its weird to see vick all chubby shaped like a normal old guy lol
And Dutch with Strike Team members, he had constant beefs with Vic and Shane, in one scene Ronnie, Shane and Vic ridiculed him as they were watching him singing Hungry Like A Wolf, Lem is the only member of the Team who was good with Dutch
@@mariozd971 Yeah even after Lem's death, Dutch didn't seem to find it right that Lemansky was denied a police funeral. In the first episode of Season 6, Dutch said with such aggravation "I haven't heard a peep out of downtown. No police funeral. No Press Conference. It's like Lemansky never wore a badge." Hell even Claudette went to his funeral. Dutch I'm sure would have been there too but he was in the process of following a lead that Vic Shane and Ronnie beat him too after the funeral.
This is the best reunion I've ever seen. I have so much respect for all these people. Their work enriched my life journey. Watching The Shield felt like an amazing adventure.
This was awesome. I still think this is one of the best written shows of all time. There were so many incredibly written and acted moments in this show.
I’m almost crying when I watch this, bringing back all these memories of The Shield. I watch it once a year, since it aired, and I’m still amazed about it. ☺️

I missed one episode during the series run (Hospital). I have never been so dedicated emotionally to a TV show as I was to The Shield. I'll never forget how angry I was when the Writers strike happened and held up production for months. With cop dramas like NYPD Blue and The Wire occupying space at the top, The Shield still stands above them all. It is my favorite show of all time.
I think the The Shield is to regular TV like the wire is to HBO. Masterpieces in their own right

To me Lem's most powerful scene was when he was hidden and went to the next trailer just to help a child, blowing his hideout JUST TO DO THE RIGHT THING ! And then his brother killed him ! I love Kenny he's such a great actor, built like a f*** brickhouse and so believable as as a sensitive Joe !
I wish this was 2 hours at least, you can tell the cast loved each other and loved making it

I really teared at the end when Shawn Ryan started getting emotional. I hope he’s able to find the same success today as he did with the Sheild.
He hasn’t come near it. By far his magnum opus. Really all he’s made since are standard ass cop shows. But he has hinted as a possible return to the world of The Shield.

Anthony Anderson gave me nightmares. Dude stepped up his acting and the intro was always so sick how they would play a solid 5-10 mins and then after something crazy happened…” JUST ANOTHER DAYYYYYYY”
The Shield was one of two shows I have ever watched (I am 50) where nearly every episode's writing was perfect. I remember so many times exclaiming at the end of an episode how they nailed the ended. It made me eager to see the next episode. It also, in a time before streaming, was a show that I knew religiously, the continuity of the characters' stories, everything. For them to make a weekly show where we all devoured each subplot and each relationship was artistic. The only other show that I thought compared to it on acting and writing was the HBO show it competed against for Emmy's and Golden Globes. I for one give the edge to The Shield.
You have to be talking about the Wire right? At the time to preferred the Shield but the Wire holds up better over time. Both were groundbreaking and still revurb to this day but the Shield was a bomb and the Wire was a slow burn. Both in they're approach to story telling and the fan appreciation.

One of the greatest shows of all-time. It was really cool to see the connection the cast had to one another and they genuinely liked each other. I had no idea about the friend and family dynamics outside of the show either
The Shield and The Wire are hands down 1 & 1A of best TV shows ever. From the 1st episodes to the last episodes they all tied together.
The Sopranos needs to factor in somewhere

This show has made so much of an impact on me that I haven't really seen anything that comes close. This includes Breaking Bad, The Wire, Halt and Catch Fire - I call those shows my 2nd tier favorite shows. The Shield just hit so differently. I understand how the cast can't seem to move on from being part of this impossibly great work of television. This show for some reason really made me know the characters like nothing I've ever watched
The Shield was so good it was one of the few shows that me and my wife had to watch regularly. I’m a 24-year retired cop and approve this message.
the confession was the most amazing cold feeling realest scene in tv history. he was so beloved yet to see and hear him unload all of his crimes made you really see the monster he became
I will never forget randomly coming across the pilot of the Shield. The whole first season was being shown on TV that night and I stayed up to watch the whole thing. Literally changed my life.

Hearing Michael Chickliss talk about his favorite moment was great. He looks like Vic’s more sensitive hippy brother in this, it’s awesome!
Best show of all time, bar none. I cannot tell you how much in love with the show that I am. I didn’t find it until season four was started but after watching the very first episode of season one, I immediately binged every episode up until I was caught up.

I’ve watched the show 3 times all the way through - when it aired was the first time, and I just watched it through recently for the first time in nearly a decade. Man does this show hit differently as you watch it at different points in your life.
The emotional roller coaster was already a hard hitter when I watched it for the first time in my teens, but after my third time in my 30s as a street cop of 11 years, with a wife and baby boy? Man did Shane’s ending arc hit with so much more of an emotional gut punch. Incredible writing, incredible show. Stupidly underrated, and I’d throw it against any of the Goliath’s like Sopranos and Breaking Bad
I remember my wife got me the box set as a stocking stuffer on the first christmas we shared as bf and gf . And i was so impressed that she would know this was favorite show or at least liked it because our taste in movies and shows are polar opposite( i finally got her into anime). Its only until a couple years ago did i find out she had conspired with my brother and my had said to the shield because he was a huge fan and knew he could take it whenever he wanted . And turns out its currently in a shelf in his house.
I hope Michael Jace gets the help he needs. He was great too.
Probably the best show I’ve ever seen. I keep wanting to rewatch but it’s so bloody emotionally draining when everything starts falling apart (which is a good thing as what other show does that as well as The Shield).

The most underrated show ever. Shame that Michael Jace did what he did, he could been with them or at least talked about because he had the most interesting arc on the show. Also Forest Whitaker, the man really elevated the level of acting. Love The Shield forever.
That’s true, Michael Jace really fucked up doing his wife like that which makes him a piece of shit and he most definitely deserves to be where he is now for the next 35 years but admittedly he was really good in the shield despite what people say.
Agreed with everything you said except for the first sentence. The Shield is one of the most revered shows ever made, it is literally the antithesis of underrated. It is beloved, and its influence on the medium isn't lost on anyone lol

But its so amazing how this cast has such a special connection that even after all the time they´ve spent away from each other it doesnt affect how they interact its almost as if the show is still running! Many Blessings to everybody

Whenever the best dramas are mentioned - Sopranos, Breaking Bad, 24 etc , The Shield will always be at the top. It is unmatched. There had never been anything like it and there has not been anything remotely like it since
This is an absolute 'murderers row' of acting talent; there isn't a weak link here at all.

Don't forget Hill Street Blues. In The Heat Of The Night was Damn good too. I can't stand most cop shows because they're too generic with cookie cutter characters and storylines but these shows were special.

This show knocked me right out. The grittiest most raw in your face thing I think I had ever seen. From the end of that first episode I knew this was going to be different. Love seeing this, them talking about those days.

Working in Angel, another of my favorite shows from my teen years, what a surprise, theres coherence in everything.
I haven’t watched tv for 10 years. My brother and niece just passed away in December and it absolutely has destroyed me. I try to take my mind off of it so I asked my sister for her Hulu password so I could watch something. Mind you I’ve always been wanting to watch the shield because I used to watch clips of it on UA-cam just like sopranos and the wire. So I’m on S4 E9 and it’s the best show I have ever watched. I’ve already been watching clips farther up to see what happens I couldn’t help myself. I’ve seen what happens to Vic and Shane and Lem. I can understand know how Vic feels losing everything. I know what that feels like. I can feel his pain. I wish I could’ve died with my brother and niece because I’m already dead. I go to sleep every night wishing I don’t wake up anymore. I’m so lost and broken. I can’t believe this happened. This can’t be real. I’ve lost myself in this show and it has helped me. Thank you for helping me ❤️

Cant believe I never head or seen this reunion before now. The Shield is my favorite show and Ryan's story at the end is the perfect ending for this.
I like watching things like this for a show that was with you for so long, it really feels like me and old friends reuniting.
I remember watching it just because I was curious about seeing The Commish play an opposite character. The end of the first episode right after Two Time shoots at them I said to my friend, "really shows what heroes these guys are" then immediately after Vic shoots Terry and my friend and my mouths just dropped. We were speechless for what felt like an hour then he just said "holy shit". Greatest premier, greatest finale, and greatest show ever!
My homegirl had to leave the room during Terry's funeral bc she could not believe Vic showed up to his funeral 😂

Fantastic watch for Shield fans, thankyou! The first TV series to really hit me hard and suck me in, my first binge watch on DVD from memory, and something I will do again, but to be honest I'm a little scared to go through all that again!! My first TV rollercoaster ride.

I have to agree with you. I can't bring myself to watch the last episode.
Just the first few seconds of Vic and Lem wrestling happily on the couch... I was emotionally unprepared for the deep sense of resolution and closure :D Not even sure I'll see the rest of the program now ;) It took a while, but a cop show finally came along that could best Hill Street Blues. Imo Shield narrowly edges ahead of HSB because HSB was meandering a few times story-arc wise in the later seasons, but the inevitability of Shield's long story keeps it on the straight and narrow from the first to the last frame. An amazing accomplishment.
Down right one of the best TV series ever made. Amazing writing and plots with a great, amazing crew of actors.

This is my FAVOURITE TV series of all time and it never got the love it deserved. At the time a lot of folks dismissed it because 'The Wire' was so popular, so hopefully now it will get its due.

33:00 The dragonchasers episode was really well done! One of the worst things that writers do is fall in love with their characters and want everyone to love them too. Then they write stories to glorify them. This is a massive error because it isn't the way the real world is and it defuses tension in the story when they can't fail (e.g. see later seasons of Game of Thrones).
Dragonchasers came so close to this, where they took this smart but nerdy and disrespected Dutch character, and gave him this great success story. I remember watching it and getting annoyed that the writer is just trying to make me like all his characters and making even the nerdy guy a hero, and I was just deflated. He walks out of the police station getting all these high-fives and enjoying his new found respect, etc. But then he gets in his car and bawls like a baby. I literally stood up from my couch, I was so excited that he maintained his character as a superficial man who had been wounded by the words of the serial killer who humiliated him. The writer wasn't making him a badass, he was just a smart and vulnerable man. Fantastic!
Best episode of the entire series for me....there are probably 4 or 5 moments of absolute genius in that one episode.
The final scene where he killed the cat tore me up.
