Conner this is not Beating the Retreat this is the march back to barracks down the Mall towards Buckingham Palace after beating the retreat which takes place on Horse Guards parade ground. There is a full video of the ceremony on yt.
We see many military marching bands in London throughout the Spring and Summer. There is nothing quite so grand as leaving the office for - say an appointment - and suddenly hearing a marching band. I feel like a kid again and race to walk beside it. They are the best of days. This is HM Royal Marines. They have performed their Ceremony of Beating Retreat and look as smart as they did when they first marched from their Barracks.
SUGGESTION: If you haven't already done so, would you please react to HM Royal Marine Bands - Gladiator. They played it at the end of this same Ceremony, on Horse Guards Parade (which is at the back of Whitehall, where you watched the Remembrance Service last November). Its played at the end of a long day, the sun is gradually setting and it's .... well ... wonderful !!! Love from the UK
My Grandpa used to wake us up on a Sunday morning to this music. His stereo system had 5ft wooden speaker cases, so there was no escape from the volume for half a mile. 😋 Our yacht used to sail with the Queen's royal yacht Britannia. In port, the Marine band onboard used to practice every morning. We used to plan our coffee-break each morning so we could listen to this and dunk a biscuit in time.
All those drummers and no blurring of the beat, all exactly on time. And a shout out for the wind section and their amazing stamina to Mariah at that pace and not get out of breath. The talent and discipline of those musicians is second to none.
What always amazes me is that as well as being excellent musicians, they are also Royal Marines and that means they are tough ! One of the hardest training courses that is very hard to pass.
Watching this puts pride in your heart, and love .of country
You might want to check out “I vow to thee my country” also by Her Majesties Royal Marines
Brilliant, that woman singing is amazing
I think you mean HIS majesties royal marines 😮
@@johnmcaleer7099 at the date of this recording I believe HER Majesty was still the Monarch
@@juliajoyce4535absolutely and she is a fully trained Royal Marine I believe she was or became a Band Corporal and like all the ladies within the band on top of completing full basic training she has to be able to play at least three instruments to a very high standard and when not on ceremonial duties they all fill medic/ aid type roles and you should see that a lot of them have campaign medals meaning they have served in some of the most recent conflicts.
Beating Retreat is held for two weeks every summer on Horseguards Parade London...you can buy tickets but The King takes the review each time. This year is the Navy...Marines. Another year the Army and Guards etc, and so on. My office was very close by....bit tricky working late with the rehearsals and the final event going by!!!!
This film is at the END of the Beating Retreat coverage.... I think they walk down towards the Palace and peel off at Clarence House. A treat for the public who didn't get to the BR event.
You also need to appreciate the skill, training, timing and discipline to maintain step and dressing whilst playing instruments. From memory, they take a 30” pace at a rate of 120 paces a minute all while lugging their instruments and playing them. (Not sure if the length and speed of the pace are correct, depends which service and even which ‘regiment’ you are part of - ie, Gurkhas and the Rifle Regiment march at 144 paces to the minute
Thank you for respecting our traditions and culture. There are plans afoot by the political elite to destroy them.
The Royal Marines used to be based in my town by the sea in Kent. I have fond memories of our yearly carnival being lead by them, as kids we would be sat on the curb of the pavement going along the seafront and you could hear the marines band leave the barracks and getting closer and closer, great excitement lol.. we also had the Red Arrows every year on firework night we would line up all along the beach with ice creams and listen for them getting closer and watch display, I feel sad for kids today not getting that, we were spoilt 😊
I do love a military band, my favourite is the Massed Pipes and Drums
After Royal Marine basic training all the musicians spend three years at the Royal Marine School of Music where they learn two instruments before going to a band. The drummers do everything from memory.
Love it.🇬🇧
They're amazing.
Best Mil band in the world!! BY FAR!
@DianeLittle-dd6ej lol if you like men in dresses. I do wish you lot would hurry up and get independence, see how you will live with no English cash to support your economy.
@DianeLittle-dd6ejare we a Scot Diane? 😂
Beating Retreat was the end of day call for troops to return to camp in days gone by when war stopped at the end of a day I believe. Its not retreating from the enemy.
Had to break for Tiffin you know. The done thing old bean!
@@DawnSuttonfabfour It's jolly bad form to fight at night and in the dark my good man, don't you know. What!
Thanks Connor 🙂
I do not think there is any other marching band that can better the men, and women, of his majesties Royal Marines Band's.
The Brits at their best.
Love it , hope your well connor 😊
Love to hear and see this thank you.
This is not Beat the Retreat. The full thing is on Horse Guards. This is just going there
In fact, it is going back from Beating Retreat.
@@djtwo2 precisely
5:21 song name is H.M. Jollies
I believe each of these musicians have to have learnt at least two instruments to a high standard as per Royal College of Music and then start their training in the Marine side of things. Amazing dedication.
This is not ‘beat and retreat ceremony’ this is the massed bands of Royal Marines, they probably just left the beat and retreat as they don’t have their regiment behind them
Beating the meat for the gays.
They were marching directly behind them.
Each and everyone of them, handles a rifle as well as their instruments. Commandos, very lethal, if you're fighting against them.
There's a great UA-cam video of the bands of the various services' cadets at the anniversary of the Combined Cadet Force. About 55,000 kids aged 12-17 are currently members of corps at about 500 secondary schools across the UK. Further, there are 70,000 in Army Cadets, 40,000 in Air Cadets, and 15,000 in Sea Cadets. Do you have this in the US?
Look for Beating Retreat 2014 on YT. When the Royal Marines where joint by the US marines and the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy
There used to be the Royal Marine Light Infantry, who wore red uniforms and blue home service helmets with a spike and the Royal Marine Artillery, who wore blue tunics with a ball on top of their H.S, helmets. When they amalgamated in 1923 the uniform chosen was the artillery blue but with infantry details. The white foreign service helmet is the "Wolsley" pattern
The musicians wear the trousers of the Royal Marine Artillery. Only thehe Buglers Branch wear the RMLI trousers
you should do one on "royal marines gladiator " ,i.e they do the Gladiator theme, it's fantastic esp the female Marine
With headphones it's under Gladiator Hans Zimmer The Band of HM Royal Marines. Its a wow performance isn't it. 😊
The word I think your looking for is Mace
Just for the record; these bandsmen and women are not purely for ceremonial duties. In times of war, they go into action as medics and stretcher-bearers.
3 of my relatives were in t'Marines
Thank you so much I enjoyed it so so much cheers 🇬🇧🇺🇲👍🏻
The best in the world!
Fantastic 👏👏👏
You'll find that the uniforms of the Royal Marines Royal Navy and Royal Air Force have been virtually copied by the military forves of most countries. The The US Marines was an almost identical uniform but had to be altered to avoid confusion.
Just a comment not relating on this vid but on your appreciation of the Special Forces. Have you seen the movie 6 DAY's ? If not I recommend it as it relates to the Iranian Embassy Siege. Cheers mate
After all that Connor....it the Royal Marines!!!!! no less
It's brilliant isn't it mate. Nobody can beat the Pomms at Pomp and circumstance.
centuries of practice makes perfect.
The selection is incredibly tough as they have to play to a very high standard as well as come up to military fitness:

They also train as infantry soldiers (not commandos) at the Commando Training Centre Lympstone. (There have been women Bandies for years but the RM Commandos have only just opened up to women after the success of a few on the Commando All Arms Training Course.)

Originally beating the retreat was to call troops back to barracks
Thank you Connor. 😢😢😢😢
Leopard pelts that is.
look up the horse guards
Not beating retreat but thanks for the reaction
Why are you wearing an All Blacks jersey, with the Silver fern on it,that's our National symbol?
could you react to the sea cadets 2024 trafalgar parade i was in it
Stirring stuff. Military precision allied to band music. What's not to like and admire?
Needs more cowbell.
Great, but the helmets always remind me of a hotel desk bell.
Those lines are not straight and they are ENGLISH, you hate the English !
