Other performances you might like are: 'The Last Night of the Proms 2009: Rule Britannia' and 'The Last Night of the Proms 2012: Jerusalem (which you reacted to yesterday I think) and God Save the Queen' . I hope one day, dear Island girl, you come to the UK and get to the Proms yourself. The last night is very special and one has to be very lucky to get a ticket! A lot of the audience have queued up for many hours to attend the concerts over the eight weeks of The Proms. (The people in front of the orchestra are the promenaders and they STAND for the whole evening.). They are very respectful and well behaved. THEN, on the last night, they all let their hair down and have fun......audience, orchestra, choir and conductor, and the millions around the world watching.

It brought tears to your eyes. You and me both. I was raised about 100 yards away from Edgar's birthplace in Upper Broadheath, Worcester, and that song, often derided by republicans as being about all the bad things of our imperial past couldn't be further from the truth. It's not about conquest and supremacy, it's literally about Hope, and the UK being a source for hope and triumph over adversity for the whole world to share. Nimrod (by Elgar) never fails to bring a tear too. It captures the essence of loss... and restoration of hope.
First time seeing your channel. And what a lovely reaction! And what a truly LOVELY girl! You just won a new subscriber - thank you! And it is a single piece of music, Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance March no.1 with lyrics added by Arthur Benson. OK, the words may not all have aged well, but this piece - and "Jerusalem" and "I vow to thee my country" must be pretty well the three most powerful pieces of music in the English language? I was going to suggest you looked at "Jerusalem", but then I saw you already have. That said, I think Elgar's orchestration version - always for me the highlight of the "Last Night" - is a more moving version.
You missed something love - the magnificent encore where they sing it again but even louder and with patriotic passion . THATS US - THE BRITISH AND THE COMMONWEALTH THATS GOES WITH IT! AND AS A 007 FILM PUT IT “NOBODY DOES IT BETTER”!
Last month I was on a trip to Newfoundland, Canada. As a British borne person I felt such a sense of commonality with the Newfoundlanders, the other Canadians and the Australians and New Zealanders I traveled with. We don’t celebrate this shared heritage enough.
My real tear jerker is Nimrod... I can't help myself. 'Nimrod' is the name given to the ninth and best-known variation in Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations
@user-wn1dl3kk6r I feel it is a pity that you think of violence and retribution in the context of this song. Whatever the faults of the period, the intention of the song, itself, is that freedom should be extended, not violence.
You imagine how you feel when you are English and really you are at the heart of it.. You could lead them into battle and they would never give up what ever the cost. Many people from the Commonwealth feel the same emotion. It is powerful stuff pride and patriotism.
The land of hope and glory was written a long time ago in britain. I believe the Americans use this unofficial eknglish anthem after their high school ceremony.
Pomp & Circumstance (Land of Hope and Glory) is by far one of the most rousing orchestrations ever composed. It is full of upbeat energy, you can't help but be carried along by it.
Yes, the custom is to hum the tune the first time through when it's played softly. Then, when it's immediately repeated, everyone sings the words, led by the choirs.
Need to watch last night at the proms "rule brittania" thats even better with people in other areas of the country singing it not only here in the royal albert hall

4:10 That tuned down part is not supposed to have any singing. When I grew up in the eighties the crowd was just humming that part building it up for the real singing parts.
The 'Proms' (short for promenades or walks) are a series of music concerts that takes place during the summer primarily in London but also in other cities occasionally, and ends in September with a very traditional evening called the Last Night, always Based in the Albert hall in London, but T THE SAME TIME, many other cities take part with huge open air concerts - which proves it doesn't always rain in the UK - which winds up the series for another year.

People from many countries come to party with us. They bring their own national flags to wave and they sing the words, just as loudly, along with us. We love that they do. Until lock down the BBC used to arrange for the Last Night of the Proms to be relayed to parks all around the UK so people could gather and sing along too. I don't know if they still do. You saw the immense crowd outside in Hyde Park, London in this video. Usually there are crowds in Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Salford in the North of England. It's a very happy event.
Other performances you might like are: 'The Last Night of the Proms 2009: Rule Britannia' and 'The Last Night of the Proms 2012: Jerusalem (which you reacted to yesterday I think) and God Save the Queen' . Jerusalem will sound a little different - definitely no paintings this time - and you will hear our UK National Anthem 'God Save the Queen' ( though now, since our beloved Queen's death, new concerts will sing 'God Save The King' . Thank you for this lovely reaction. Love from the UK
wow i am learning so much new things. Thank you for sharing and helping me with this. It is truly amazing, thank you. Welcome UK
I always think that while the Royal Albert Hall is a special place to get the feel of how real this is to the British go to Hyde Park
Funny how the last night of the Proms, are predominately made up of white people! Makes one question the validity of the comments that state Island girl is British on account of being a member of the commonwealth!….
The words are:
Land of hope and glory,
Mother of the free,
How shall we extol thee,
Who are born of thee?
Wider, still and wider,
Shwll thy bounds be set.
God, who made thee mighty,
Make thee mightier yet!
God, who made thee mighty,
Make thee mightier yet!
Steal to become richer
Unfortunately Island girl, these words are only for white English! and their beloved England! They are not for the likes of you, or my fellow Cornishmen, Welsh and Scots.
The bobbing up and down, i believe is to represent the sailors and the british navy, on the ships, when we had the great navy the world had ever seen
great reaction, keep up the UK, reaction, this wonderful country will blow your mind every day, with its culture and history
wow this is amazing , i loved it
no it was done to try and put the orchestra off when they were playing the sailors hornpipe and other sea shanties
@@carltonhawkes2453 i will take your word for that, i heard different, but these traditions, change over time, so i wont disagree, with that
The last night of the Proms every year. The Albert hall and in parks across the land.
We like a good patriotic sing song!!!!
The open air relay broadcast to huge parks around the country is spectacular!!!!!
I love it to
Hey Island girl this always brings tears to my eyes, thanks for your lovely comments.
awss my pleasure
I cry for my country now as it is in a hell of a state
I'm crying my eyes out now..love your reaction.
Awss thank you
I saw the moment this song and the people singing it, touched your soul. It's a stirring experience, the music, the people, the orchestra, the lyrics (even if you cannot hear them all), the voices together somehow combine to create a moving moment that the soul recognises as worthy of genuine emotion. Real, recognises real.
island girl. to be honest, your part of us, the british empire colonised the islands and you gained independance from the bristish empire in 1962, and chose to stay part of the british commonwealth. so in my book, your our cousins, as with all the islands
Your??? Do you mean “you’re”??? Sorry, perhaps English isn’t your first language.
@@oldman1734 lol you make me laugh because of spelling mistake, are you english, are you sure. i know im british, my family has been traced, back to 14.60 not DNA full family tree, my mother taught family history, my uncle was also the bishop of gibralta until could years ago, I served in the british army back in late 80's as a medic, my brother served in parachute regiment for 22 years, my wife father served, as did her 2 brothers, one army one navy, my gradfather dropped at arnhem in the war, he was airbourne, the movie the bridge to far
so get a life are you british or your my first language, mr oldman1734, your out of date,
@@seanmc1351 Your(!) reply is full of errors. Even repeating “your” for “you’re”. Britain is failing in so many ways, it’s depressing.
You don’t even seem to know the difference between “to” and “too”. I’ll help you. “I go to school and you go too”. See the difference?
There has to be some standards, otherwise everything will collapse.
You know you are right lol, hey cousin
@@FIGPLAYHOUSE great channel, i want to say you have a rare gift, when doing your reactions, your very clever, how you watch, and only turn to the camera to comment, with lovely expressions, thats rare, you need your own TV channel, i would watch lol
Hey, my friend, thank you for your kind words, I am glad you enjoyed. I t truly was my pleasure. I can't wait to check out and learn more .
What a lovely reaction to a wonderful occasion.
Thank You from London:)
awsss thank you glad you enjoyed. I really loved this video
Emigrate to the UK whenever you like, you're the type that we would love to have here. Nice reaction.
Awssss and I coming to you first lol thank you 😊
You missed something love - the magnificent encore where they sing it again but even louder and with patriotic passion .
THATS US - THE BRITISH AND THE COMMONWEALTH THATS GOES WITH IT!
AND AS A 007 FILM PUT IT
“NOBODY DOES IT BETTER”!
Stop your veiled racism!! Island girl is not your love!!
'Nimrod' is the name given to the ninth and best-known variation in Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations
what a wow moment when, they played it when The Queens death was announced.
If some people think they an overcome the culture the history and determination of these people's without retribution think again..
@user-wn1dl3kk6r
I feel it is a pity that you think of violence and retribution in the context of this song.
Haha in your head sunshine! I see your English supremacist attitude is alive and well, as you do not mention the indigenous Britons and Irish!
Stop bullshittig the girl! She doesn’t need your lies
Now you may learn where your graduation song comes from...us in the UK
The land of hope and glory was written a long time ago in britain. I believe the Americans use this unofficial eknglish anthem after their high school ceremony.
wow amazing!
It's not just High School, but also university graduation. The ceremony's called "Commencement".
YOu really need to be there to feel the power of a live orchestra. It's not the same as listening though even very large speakers.
I cry every time I hear this 🏴🇬🇧
Pomp & Circumstance (Land of Hope and Glory) is by far one of the most rousing orchestrations ever composed. It is full of upbeat energy, you can't help but be carried along by it.
It's your heritage too Island girl ..I'm so pleased you liked that.
British Colonialism is not Island girls heritage. So don’t impose it on her!
The sweet thing is, the audience started singing too early. Every Brit loves that song.
Yes, the custom is to hum the tune the first time through when it's played softly. Then, when it's immediately repeated, everyone sings the words, led by the choirs.
Lovely reaction!
Thank you so much
Need to watch last night at the proms "rule brittania" thats even better with people in other areas of the country singing it not only here in the royal albert hall
You are endearing to watch, and as part of the commonwealth its your song too. It makes the hairs on my neck stand up every time I hear it, very moving.🏴🇬🇧.
Thank you so much ❤️
Makes me cry each time I hear this.
majestic performance as expected that's what UK is about
Tell Island girl the truth! Britain is a broken Country! Asset stripped by the Tory government, and the population turning to fascism for answers!
Island Girl I've seen a couple of Americans reacting to this very same performance but your reaction and appreciation is simply precious. Try watching Jerusalem from the Last Night of the Proms - more powerful stuff. Enjoy!
Thank you so much greatly appreciated 👏
Nowadays seen as jingoistic and more than slightly 'inappropriate' this is the Brits saying how we ruled the world, oh, and by the way, still do. Great music, fabulous spectacle, just, not really "PC" in today’s world...
Well there’s supremacist talk in all it glory! Well done Nigel! We can’t have Island girl thinking she’s equal to any English person…she needs to know her place, doesn’t she old chap!!
4:10
That tuned down part is not supposed to have any singing.
When I grew up in the eighties the crowd was just humming that part building it up for the real singing parts.
I didn't think this was getting to her......but the final part did.....as it does with most people who have a heart....
Sometimes I try to hold it in
I prefer to think of our achievements in rugby, soccer is a snowflake game.
Oh, you are such a man Frank! You simply ooze testosterone!!
