Prayers for Dez and his family right now. They’ve really been through it for the past several years. Great interview, it’s hard not to hang off every word. Dez is always great but you could tell he was into it talking with an old friend.
I'm just now realizing I should start doing comments on these videos replying to myself. This has been the coolest f'n interviews I've ever seen. These guys are a few years older than me, but, I can relate so much to what they're talking about.
Best episode so far, Robb. Incredible content - those 3 hours did not feel like 3 hours. Awesome stories you would NEVER get from a typical interview. I hope you can get a guy like Chino Moreno from Deftones or Brandon from Bleeding Through on here.
Damn! Hard to imagine that lineup playing at such a small venue. I saw coal chamber and I think five.o play a show at alrosa in like 2002. Never saw an outdoor show there but what a great place.
Man I remember the pantera 101 proof tour with coal camber and machine head. Last show at the old colosseum in Fayetteville, NC What a awesome pit the whole show. Great times..wow just looked that was back in 97 ! Time flys
It’s awesome that two guys who used to inspire me to play music and raise hell in my younger days now inspire me to be a good dad and find balance in life 🤘
So hyped I found the channel. My second show ever was in Atlanta the Tabernacle. The bill was Amen, Slipknot, Machine Head and Coal Chamber as the headliner. What a night to be alive🤘🏼
This is when I discovered C.Chamber because I was 15 @ the Ozzfest 1997 show which was legendary. Dez & everyone there was definitely loco. That’s real cool Robb & Dez toured that much 🤘🏿
Bay Area stand up!!!! Much respect Rob! I’m glad you’re doing this. huge fan since 95 when I was kid. Ten ton hammer is the song that sold me after that I was obsessed. Keep rocking that shit bro. San Lorenzo born and raised I got your back
I fucking LOVED Coal Chamber. I was bummed when they split, but, of course, Devildriver are awesome. I got to see CC on the reunion tour, and it was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Dez has a very distinct sound for each of his bands, and, when you went to that tour, you were seeing CC, not Dez from Devildriver fronting the band. His voice, body movements, everything were like seeing them back in the day. It was really fucking cool. My inner 15 year old is STILL living on a high from it this many years later LOL
first concert ever in 95’ i went to and at that point i was 10 years old changed my life it was insane asf I was like holy hell these peeps rock your socks off
Dez has always been my favorite metal front man plus look how humble and honest he is not many people left like you and thats why your one of my metal hero's love you to Robb you guy got me into metal when I was younger you two helped shape this beautiful creature and many other love y'all can't wait to see y'all on stage agin
I realized when he played the Coal Chamber songs that I still remember all the lyrics. First concert I ever went to was Coal Chamber, Sevendust and Human Waste Project. I was 12 and 5 foot tall. My parents turned over a trash can for me to stand on cause I couldn't see shit, great times.
Be nice to hear from Josh Silver of Type O Negative, I bet he has a pretty good normal life now. I wonder if from being in a band most your life than going to work like us everyday is hard thing to adjust or not. I know if I went from my life working 5-6 days a week sometimes 20 hours a day to stepping out on stage feeling the rush of people I'd be addicted to that. I think he's story needs told he's a EMT ambulance driver in N,Y so he's literally saving lives now. That's fuckin awesome
FUCK YEAH!!!!! I live in Kalamazoo!!! And I saw you guys play here in I think 97. I can't believe you remember our small town?!?! But we love FUCKIN METAL!!!!
So, I remember (as a fan) seeing this Slipknot takeover happen in front of my eyes. Starting with the Ozzfest slot. Then, that Roadrunner tour with Amen, SK, Machine Head and Coal Chamber, First in Lubbock, Tx at a place called Liquid 2000, that could be the setting for a rave scene in The Crow. After the show by the busses, Robb actually humored me when I brought up the fact I knew Vio-Lence and was very cool. And a few days after in Odessa, Tx at the Ector County Coliseum, I snuck in as stage hand/security dude (sorry!) and helped Slipknot load their shit on stage, and got to see the Machine Head dudes check out their backdrop for the first time. As well as be on stage while Dave McClain did a quick sound check. There's more to the story, and I knew then, I was witnessing history. This interview is bringing it all back!! Thanks Robb!!
not a coal chamber or devil driver fan, though I don't dislike them I usually find Dez to be these bands' strongest point, but Dez was so interesting and refreshing to hear here. A+ guy for sure. Cheers to both of you guys for a solid 3 hour.
also at 1:59, when dez and rob go on about how awesome wes borland is, i enjoyed that. he is a badass. i fucking love that whole band, but some people won't compliment the rest of the band, but wes really truly is a brilliant guy
I was just clicking on the song "pure sincerity" in the sidebar, and look what I find here, while listening to it and being even more happy because in a few seconds I wiwll click this! xD \../
Dude. I totally bet Dez and his wife dealt with the same awesome melanoma Dr. that my mom in San Diego deals with. He was really good about narrowing down the specific melanoma, and finding a very rare treatment that finally helped her. That's funny, I'm 100% sure its the same Dr.
ive never walked in there shoes but i wish every metal head stay safe healthy and kick ass on stage theres nothing better than fans banging there heads and smileing and haveing fun both bands kick ass i wish his wife be healthy a never been through a fire but thats devestating
Awesome podcast once again dude! Also I had some belching beaver peanut butter stout while this played..awesome beer dude! Can't wait till the next episode.
Dez is right I've been in bands that made badass music but after a while playing together you see people for who they really are I'm a drummer I play metal and other styles I prefer metal rock classic rock just good fucking jam material. But if the people you become a family with do things that you don't like or puts you at risk you don't have to hate them just love them from a distance or stay away from them. Dont let there toxic shit cloud your sky's and take a break the friends and fans will be there when you come back rebuilding yourself sucks but it can also open new doors you never knew existed.
You can tell Dez has worked hard on his response to the KoRn ripoff accusations, but he still sounds petty. Props to Rob for challenging him on the claim KoRn didn't have an album out in '94
Dez seemed like such a rad guy, saw this interview and it confirmed. I'm the same type of parent, I've spanked my kids one time each, but I won't ever do that again. My kiddos are 7 and 10 now, this was when they where way younger. His music has influenced so many, his drive to always go after the best is amazing Not a lot of people don't have that drive. 🤘🤘
I got the coal chamber demo its all black w the logo in white on tape with dez's phone number on the back. Bought it from a used music bin at a head shop in Massachusetts for a buck in 2000ish I think
First concert I ever went to, I was 14, it was Megadeth, Coal Chamber, and Life of Agony, at the Hara Arena in Dayton, OH. 1996, i think. Nu Metal didn't even exist yet. Saw Coal Chamber several times after that....HEY!! i Saw them at the Alrosa Villa with Machine Head and Slipiknot. It was their first outdoor show ever....Mushroomhead showed up with a big sheet that says "Mushroomhead rules the Alrosa. SLIPKNOT GO HOME!" and were throwing rocks at Slipknot as they played until Mick Thompson stopped mid-song, ripped his mask off (a HUGE deal at the time as none of them had ever been seen without their masks...this is before Iowa was even thought about) straddled the barricade and started telling them to come fight him. I think they left or were kicked out. Either way it was a fucking badass show!!!
Robb, it was genius to start those podcasts. I never listen to any other podcasts, but those are the shit!!! On Dez: I always thought he was this hard-ass difficult character (and I'm not saying he can't be in certain situations), but he comes across as such a cool guy who has nothing but the best things to say about anybody. Awesome.
@Universal Guitar Based Music # 3 Yeah, he kinda talked about not enjoying interviews (and meeting people in general) in this interview and that it was different cause he considers Robb a long-time friend.
I interviewed him when the second DevilDriver album came out and he couldn’t have been nicer, cooler. He offered me his number to call up when the band was in town to come hang out.
Finally! Someone that hates the beatles besides me :) As far as things being different growing up in the 70's and 80's, that's so true. At 14 I took a bus trip by myself from the meeting point at Naugatuck Daily News parking lot to Yankee stadium and upon returning at around 2:00, I walked home by myself. If I remember correctly, it cost $25 (bus and ticket)
you know, i really don't appreciate the shit he's given limp bizkit throughout the years, but rob really does seem like a chill guy. i kind of don't get why people have been so hard on him over the last couple years. if you don't like this record of his, whatever, but he's gotten a really fucking crazy amount of backlash over things that doesn't seem to match his personality. he seems cool.

What is it you don't like him saying about limp bizkit
@ back in 2009 or so, rob freaked out publicly about limp bizkit being placed higher than them at a festival (sonisphere) .when bizkit played that festival the same day, wes played an absolutely fucking amazing solo in break stuff that's not in the studio recording. it really truly is fucking spectacular. the video is still on youtube, you really need to check out that solo
@ i guess so. someone in machine head (not sure who) did an interview about it later saying that wes actually came and talked to them after the show and it seems the drama died down after that, as a diehard limp bizkit fan i kinda held it against machine head and rob. i don't really hold it against him anymore. he seems like a cool guy

This guy is such a talker and flexer. He’s brought up the 2nd amendment and partying with rockstars shit twice on two different podcasts 🙄. I gave up after the ‘everyone wants to publish me’ 🤣😂😆 ok Dez 👌🏼
