I still own some of the Green Beret men beer because they was gave me some of their M4 clip bullet when I and them worked together at Afghanistan. It was so fun to worked with them as a team. I am 101st Airborne Division..
I know a man that was a Green Beret, In Vietnam. He fought in Cambodia, Laos & Thailand. He fought for his Country, his Home and his Family. He was awarded the Bronze Star for a reason i felt not necessary to ask. The Green Beret, says more about him than he'd ever say about himself. All of his peers look up to him, i certainly do. Thank you Beast. I will tell him. Whoa that is alot of service time your family has put in. That is a lot to be very proud of. And tell them your family they are why we are still a free nation. Thank them also..
@ocepeda1967 I don't mean to put in question your military service, but the Arny changed its regulars to black berets, the ranger's beret color. They in turn switched to tan. It varies too, airborne's is maroon etc.The green beret maintains itself as SOF honorary head gear. Thank you for your service.
Actually, the regular soldiers wear the black. Years ago the black beret was the beret of the Ranger Units, and the Army decided in all their unfounded wisdom to give the black beret to regular soldiers to boost their morale. One must understand the Beret is just a hat, the man that wears the Green Beret is a Special Forces Soldier. The reason for the Beret being given to Special Forces is because Special Forces started from OSS. which worked with the French underground in WW2.
@ArmyWifeK In the beginning the 5th SFG and the 7th SFG were out of Ft. Bragg and the 10th was in Germany. In 1991 the 3rd SFG was being brought online at Ft. Bragg. But being that after 1992 I left the service , I have not kept up with what is happening now. Barry Sadler was a medic with the 5th SFG in Viet Nam.
call your army recruiter, ask for an 18X contract and don't take anything else, you'll start off by going through infantry OSUT, then go onto airborne should you graduate OSUT, after that is SFAS more commonly know as selection, should you pass selection you'll go through the Q courses so you can qualify as a green beret, hope this helped you out

Growing beards and wearing civilian clothing has a purpose- because the Army SF (Green Berets) mission generally is to fit in with indigenous people, gain their trust and cooperation, and train them to fight the enemy. An SF ODA Team of 12 men can multiply their own force many times over this way. Adopting local customs and dressing like the locals helps accomplish this mission.
Camren you're right about the differences, the biggest difference is that Green Berets train and utilize the indigenous people to help them fight. Each member of a team also has a specialty weapons sargeant, communications, medical. They are also cross trained so if the medical sargeant goes down the weapons sargeant may be the junior medical sargeant. They also live and operate amongst the indigenous people and SF guys are experts in foregin culture and language.
Special forces dont all go to Halo and Haho school. The wait for the army is incredibly long. SF guys have waited 5+ years to get into military free fall. i dont know about seals and marines. para rescue are required to be free fall qualified i believe. Thats why it is the best SOF unit to be in. free fall, mountain, and scuba all in one.
Your former SF right? I ask because my uncle is a currently deployed SF so cant ask him my question: I was shot in the eye with a bb gun. I still have that eye functioning but i'm not sure if the vision in that eye will stop me from being capable to join the Green Berets. will it?

Actually, Guy you have it backwards, the Rangers are all an infantry MOS, Ranger school is a super advanced infantry school, whereas Special Forces is made up of infantry, Combat Medics, Combat Engineers and communications moss's.
@bigdude90 Yea my ROTC instructor in my high school is FR and he was saying they're splitting everything up because other battalions need Recon. Plus, MARSOC is fairly new, so they're not as experienced when it comes to being in SOCOM, if they join. And Recon falls under Tier 2 with Rangers/Pararescue. So they're only with SOCOM for special ops as in joint ops with Green Berets. My dad did security for a Delta Force platoon in Iraq while they conducted raids, and all his orders were from SOCOM.
On this date in 1966 {Feb. 5th} "The Ballad of the Green Berets"" entered Billboard's Top 100; on March 5th it would peak at No. 1 {for 5 weeks} and spent a total of 13 weeks in the Top 100!!!
@nav2491i If you are referring to the facial hair and lack of uniform, I'm guessing these photos are from our most recent wars. Spec Ops were authorized to grow facial hair and to blend into the local cultures, so as not to stand out. I guess the word I'm looking for is "undercover"
Well first of all Green Berets (actually called Army Special Forces) specialize in unconventional/guerrilla warfare, sometimes hostage rescue and taking out HVTs Rangers are a direct action force and usually support SEALs and Army Special Forces when things turn ugly.
@kyoukan91 You do not have to be a Ranger to attend SFAS (Special Forces Assesment and Selection) or be in Special Forces, you don't even have to go to Airborne school to attend SFAS, however you will be required to attend Airborne School if you are selected.
@chetty31111 It is the Quiet Professionals and that is a very old motto you have never been around SF guys have you. You live in la la land and yes 1500+- students knew I was one when I trained them over a 3yr USAJFKSWCS tour.
Hmm then a lot has changed. Did they put land nav back in and go back to one month. When I went the SF recruiter on base said they took it out because many of the candidates had little to no land nav exp. It was at a time when they were trying to add a battalion to each group so they were trying to get as many through as possible.
Yea... of course, they know almost everything about culture, language of any country, etc. Maybe some people think that they are only men with muscles and a weapon, but not, when I have time I watch some videos from these soldiers, tv, dvd,'s, news, etc., and if you put attention, you will see how they observe people, gestures, movement of the hands, eyes, tone of voice, etc.., these men could give lecture in Harvart., freaking smart psychologists they are.
Seals are an attack/ extraction force hight specialized in anything having to do with taking someone or something out, dead or alive. The Green Berets are a recon/deplomatic/ attack force highly specialized in intel, forming alliances with locals, and in some cases taking people out ( mostly just dead ). Both have their strong points and both are equally good and what they are designed to do.

Remember, those who are serving need to remember that they should be doing thier best knowing they are serving for the ones that cant serve such as myself. Support the troops not the wars.
@shqiperiany "Green Berets" are US Army Special Forces, have to enlist there before anything else then see if you can make the cut. They aren't their own branch of the military, they are simply a job within the Army. Intel is Intelligence, that's my particular job in the Army, Military Intelligence.

Very good point.
Remember, those who are serving need to remember that they should be doing thier best knowing they are serving for the ones that cant serve such as myself. Support the troops not the wars.

I love this song alot.
I think Dusty was CAG, not a Green Beret. Well, he could have also.
@shqiperiany "Green Berets" are US Army Special Forces, have to enlist there before anything else then see if you can make the cut. They aren't their own branch of the military, they are simply a job within the Army. Intel is Intelligence, that's my particular job in the Army, Military Intelligence.
WOOOH YEAH GO GREEN BERETS!!!
