  • My wife and I replaced the stock sealed beam headlights on the 4Runner with new LED headlights.
    Please Note: We took the grill off in order to install horns as well as figure out a route for both headlight and horn wiring harnesses. If you are just installing the headlights, removing the grill may not be necessary in your case.

    lol@ I'm sure there is an easier way to do this but we didn't have time for that. Nice 2nd gen info in your videos. I am a big fan of the 2nd gen 4 runner. Good to see you giving your tank the love it deserves.

    I like the way this looks I got a 1994 but I like the look of yours front side. I wonder if it would be hard to install those into mine I'll maybe have to buy extra parts to adapt

      Thanks! It's nice having sealed beam style headlights because there are a lot of options out there. I wonder now if the 2nd gen grille can fit on a 3rd gen easily. They shouldn't be too far off.

    You old headlights don't look like they were stock. Do I need special mounting brackets to mount the new headlights if I have the stock headlights?

    • @roughcutsgarage
      @roughcutsgarage  Рік тому

      The mounting bracket should be stock. There is a slight difference with later second gen years which may be your problem. I think it changed around 93 or 94 where there is a difference in the grille but I would have to confirm.

    • @roughcutsgarage

    How on earth did you take the grill out??? Please tell me

    • @roughcutsgarage
      @roughcutsgarage  Рік тому +1

      We took it out in the video (the incorrect way involving snapping a few things...it was our first video ever) there are 4 screws holding the side marker lights on. If I was to do it again, I would have taken the bumper off to pull out the grille. Of course you could just do what we did and snap off the tabs holding it in place.

      We got ours from Amazon. Some vehicle filters aren't 100% correct I have found. As long is you are running a 5x7 sealed beam bulb stock, most LED 5x7 replacements should fit.

    Did you have any issues after installing the lights? I installed mine about a week ago and my battery was some how drained but im not sure if it was because of the wire harness or something else that was already wrong with my 4runner.

    • @roughcutsgarage
      @roughcutsgarage  2 роки тому +1

      We haven't had any issues with our headlights at all. One thing you probably could do is take a multimeter and test along the harness to rule out any parasitic draw from the lights.

  • @xxIRISHMAN2001xx
    @xxIRISHMAN2001xx Рік тому

    Did you have any issues with your blinkers flashing rapidly?

    • @roughcutsgarage
      @roughcutsgarage  3 роки тому

      No issues if you are just swapping out the headlights and the side marker lights. I ran into issues when I tried swapping out the turn signals to LEDs. I suspect it's because the stock signal relay can't detect the lower current draw from the LED. I would look for led turn signals that have a built in resistor or I believe there are aftermarket relays that address the rapid flashing or in my case, no flash at all. If you come across some led turn signals that work I would love to know where you found them. I am currently still running stock bulbs for signals.

    Im getting led for my 4runner 90 , do i need to buy that wiring for my 4runner?

    • @roughcutsgarage
      @roughcutsgarage  2 роки тому

      Buying the harness made it easier for us. You could replicate or design and build your own wiring harness using the same relays and connectors if you feel inclined to. My understanding is since LEDs draw less power, the stock relays sometimes won't pickup the draw from the LEDs (similar issue for LED turn signals going into hyper flash). We didn't feel like designing and building one so we just bought one.

    If I wanted to wire in the DRL what would I have to do?

    • @roughcutsgarage
      @roughcutsgarage  2 роки тому +1

      From my understanding of the instructions that came with the lights, you have to splice the extra DRL wire lead on the headlight into the positive wire of the stock side marker lights on the vehicle. That is just my understanding. I have not tried it yet though.
