Love instructor Steve! Your videos are SO effective and helpful, my puppy is so well behaved after only 3 weeks at home and we owe it all to McCann dogs!! ❤❤

Love that we get to see Kelani again, almost all grown up!
I need to put more work into rule outs in the context of walks. My 2yr old dog's got an acceptable Leave It for inanimate things including food, but she hasn't learned to transfer that skill to anything that's alive yet (or anything in motion, like a leaf tumbling across the grass in the wind). Don't get me wrong - I'm super amazed I've been able to teach a dog Leave It for random stuff on the ground! But she's highly excitable; she's never at a "0" to start with and she accelerates to "100" with very little provocation, although we've finally reached a place where if there *aren't* distractions in motion, she's an acceptable leash-walker (we live on a rural property so it's not like we're walking in an urban environment). I'm also working on getting her to drop to a Down despite excitement, which I'm hoping will help with the distractions on walks (it already helps with impulses to chase the cat, inside).

Great video. To the naysayers of course you start inside first. 3D - distance, distraction, duration in training. You only up the anti when the dog is showing sighs of learning.

In the initial seating example, you could combine it with teaching the dog to understand leash pressure, rewiring the brain to move with the pressure instead of the natural urge to resist and go against, before moving to the next steps. I think its an often overlooked step, that in my opinion should be done before going straight to 180s or adding distractions, etc etc

I like the way when feeding the treats/rewards he brings his hand up to his face so the dog is looking at you and not just the hand, nice touch. at 13 weeks old my pup has been amazing in training but we are always thinking of ways to add to it to make him think that little bit more and make it more interesting for him and us.

Exactly how I describe my dog... a teenager who is partly on my program, and partly on his own. 😂

I have a teenager as well, but she seems to be about 90% on her own program, and 10% mine. Since this teenage behavior kicked in she seems to have forgotten many of the basics that she had learned as a puppy, thus I’m back to the training vids!

I’ve been working on this stuff for two years. What I’ve learned with my dog is there’s a big difference between getting my dog to choose any reward from me over something he likes is a world away from choosing a reward from me over something he doesn’t like. He has no flight response only fight so if a vehicle or dog is making him scared it will occupy his attention 120% and he wants to chase it away. I can hear the motorbikes coming but not smell the intact males that might be out of sight, so I can’t get ahead of it.

Please make a video about introducing your puppy to your mid age dog. How can I set up my older dog for success when I bring home a puppy?

Do you give her the distraction bowl at the end of the training or not?
