Hi Jim: I wanted to pass on a tip to you about pouring oil from quart containers. It's a hack that makes it so the oil doesn't come burping out of the opening. Instead of pouring with the opening at the bottom, try flipping it so the opening is at the top - it's a bit unconventional, but I was told the container was designed that way. What happens with the opening being at the top is, air gets in immediately, rather than bubbling through when the opening is at the bottom. I hope this helps - I wanted to share it, since you shared your knowledge with me. Thank you very much.
i slip a plastic bag over the filter before loosening it all the way then just lower the filter down to my catch can with no oil splatter mess, eazy peezy.
Awesome first time it spilled oil in my eyes what a rookie I was lol
@@kingofkingz249 dang haha
This was exactly what i needed, my free maintenance (oil change and tire rotations from my dealer) just ran out on my 2012 2500 5.7 4x4 crew. I haven't had to do an oil change in nearly 5 years on my own since i had a Tundra.
Thank you for stopping by the shop.
Thanks, I just needed to know how to setup the oil change on the meter reader, thumbs up bro
I have the 2014 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L Hemi I found out there are two similar oil filters that will fit the truck from mopar. Part # 04884899AC that's the larger one and 04892339AA they both will fit the 5.7L Hemi. I thought the parts guy's had sold me the wrong filter. The larger one ending with 99AA I had something of a difficult time getting it out past the CV Axel's. I just thought I would mention this In Case someone else ran into this .
Thanks.
Jim, you're simply the best! Better than all the rest
Your instruction was great, Jim. Thank you

Thanks for the tips Jim. I have the sport model and it has a cumputer LCD in the dash and thats who i reset my oil change. no need to gp through the pressing the gas pedal hehe. Im gonna do my next oil change with what I seen here and im sure its gonna go fantastic.
+Jason Kack Thanks for the feedback. If you need any other advice let me know.
Helpful video. Would be even better if the lighting was brighter
I started using a smaller container to catch my filter and the oil coming from the filter location to avoid having to clean up the axel and everything else afterwards. I’m sure it’s fine as long as you clean it but I’ve Just found it more convenient not having to clean oil from the under carriage
Thank you very much for posting
+Cody Thomas I hope my video was helpful. Thanks for your feedback and for watching

+jack frost I'm happy to help.
Would recommend synstetic oil use in the hemi?
Good video
I would like to see how to reset a RA2 radio (Uconnect 5 inch) on a ram 1500. Having problems with mine.
Hi Jim, I'm getting ready to change the oil in my 2014 5.7L 1500 and have viewed a few other videos before yours. Wow, your video is the best with the most complete information. I noticed one of your viewers commented about using a plastic bag on the old filter to help prevent a big mess, so I am going to try that. Ah, and now for something I have been wondering about. For many years when I change oil I always pour as much oil as possible into the new filter. My RAM filter mount is straight up so I can fill it nearly all the way but my old F-150 4.2L was angled so I could only fill it about half without spilling. In my mind having oil already in the filter significantly shortens the time for the engine to run without fresh oil to start lubricating. Do you think that a good idea or am I just allowing the small Einstein portion of my brain to make life more difficult? ha. I enjoyed your video, you're the best. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video and post it for my education.
Thank you for stopping by the shop.To be very honest I don't fill the filter with oil because of the mess when you try to install the angled filters.I don't know any mechanics that fill the filters You will not have any problem or shorten the life of the engine
That was definitely the best way to do it years ago, but with engineering of the engines and so tight of tolerances oils are vastly different now days. Engine oils protect the engine so that the filling of filters is no longer necessary. If it eases your mind, then by all means, continue doing so.
Your overthinking it, there is no significant difference in putting oil in the filter before installing. When you turn the engine on it cycles the oil, without any problems. Im a tech a Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram and its not that big a deal. I probably perform on average about 80 oil changes a month on the 5.7 hemi. #moparian #mopartech
7qrts with filter?
Dipping your finger in fresh oil and running it around the top of the seal on the oil filter before you put it in ensures you’ll never have a seal stuck.
Would mobil1 full synthetic 5w30 help with the lifter knock? Currently have 122k and on a 2014 5.7
I have a 2014 ram 1500 5.7L V8 engine. I know the oil that it calls for is the 5w 20. Do you still put in the same weight oil if the mileage if high? In my case, 82,000 miles. I use full synthetic oil.
Hey my 14 dodge 3500 has a rubber cover underneath and won't let me get to oil filter, my buddies doesn't have enough that cover makes it easier to change filter, can I remove that cover
Just for the record, while it is difficult for your independent mechanic to know the oil specs set for every engine by every manufacturer, you should always check your owners manual, especially if your under warranty.
Chrysler does allow the use of 5w30 in the 5.7 v8 for certain years, while 5w20 is recommended, 5w30 can be used so long as it meets chrysler material standard MS-6395.
Mopar, Shell Helix, and Pennzoil brands are recommended.

Yeah, an open-end wrench can round off the drain plug, especially if you use the wrench BACKWARD the way you just did.
Don't be a dick
Do the reset works on 2010 dodge ram.. do you use full synthetic or synthetic blend for oil
Mrkenman Turn into run position and pump the gas three times and it will reset.
Hey Jim, My name is Wayne.. Ok i have a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 Ram 1500 Hemi..So Oil filter is on the Passanger side? Also i have only 28k miles.. Is it ok to start using semi synthetic or full synthetic now?.. Alsi its calling for 5w 20....
Insane Wayne yes
Jim would everything be the same for a 2013 ram 1500 express 5.7 hemi?
+James Vaughan Yes it should be almost the same
100% of the time all 5.7 hemis require 5W20 at 7 quarts. #mopartech
How much oil would go into a 2010 Dodge Ram 4.7L? Would the process be the same?
Emmanuel Hernandez 6 quarts
i recently purchased a 2013 Ram 1500 with the 5.7LT Hemi motor, its a used vehicle with 26000 miles. the service department said the oil change was synthetic blend , but i was wondering if full synthetic work be ok for a engine that had a synthetic blend in it...... and could you tell method if any to reset the oil indicator on this vehicle.
+Antonio Davis Yes you can use the full synthetic oil and here is the video to rest the oil life ua-cam.com/video/LpZpUzu-68I/v-deo.html , let me know how you do
Thanks for you help and knowledge
+Antonio Davis Any time.Happy new year and thanks for watching.Don't forget to subscribe.
How many miles till you change the oil on these rams
I recommend 5,000 miles or 6 months.Thanks for watching.
Can u go back to conventional?...I got oil change to 5-20 synthetic blend which dealership did not indicate they did not have conventional and now I have some knocking/rattling sound coming from under engine at 13000k miles?
VINCINZO yes you can switch between the two without issues
You set mine by the buttons on the steering wheel
You didn't show us the type of filter you used?
no entendí lo de presionar el acelerador, no vi ningun cambio en el tablero :v alguien me podria explicar?
when i bought my 2014 used with 22000 miles on it in april 2016 the dealer had changed the oil and i noticed the oil level read high, so after changing it myself with 4500 miles put on it i used the 7.0 qts recommended with a new filter and it still reads about 1/4 inch over the full level. is my dipstick inaccurate?
Very good question .The 3.6 liter engine uses 6 qt of oil and the 5.7 uses 7 qt but this is what is listed with the specifications.CAUTION: Nominal refill capacities are shown. A variation may be observed from vehicle to vehicle due to manufacturing tolerance and refill procedure.
The spec for the 5.7, is rounded up to 7 q but in actuality its 6.6 q. So thats prolly why
What kind of oil did you use?
+msclecarcrzy The oil I used on this one was a synthetic blend 5w20
It's a messed up system
When you get ready to change your oil. the oil is dirty. Your filter is still clean. You change them both. What a racket. If your filter cleaned oil your filter would get dirty and your oil would be clean I gave up on the oil change racket over 50 years ago with filters that clean oil.
ralph wood what the hell did you say? Lol
I thought the process was unplugged down there drain all the oil. Next replace oil filter and last put the plug back on????.
I never fill the oil filter before it is installed and I don't know any mechanic who does .As a do it yourselfer you can if the filter is not put on sideways.Thank for stopping by and your input.
I try to never stop one task and go do another if it is not necessary to completing the task to help eliminate the possibility of forgetting a step. So complete the oil pan and then go for the oil filter is how my process goes.
One time I got the filter to tight and it twisted the o-ring I put new oil in started it up and all the new oil ran out so I was left with no ride to get oil and out the cost of oil and filter
thank you for watching and your input
Put a "slight bead of oil on the oil filter gasket..." Might want to state to use "new oil."
Thanks for watching
+jimthecarguy Who would use old oil anyway?? Oh yeah, Martilyo would.
that's what I was wondering. lol
I was watching another youtube video, and they used old oil from the pan. I'm not sure it's a huge deal which one you choose
the instructions on my oil filter don't say to do this extra step anyways. It could be considered frivolous
mopar 5w 20 only
Jared j. No
Just to let you know that dodge and Ram split off in 2011 so now the truck is referred to as Ram only. No where on the truck will you see the name Dodge!
Thanks for the vid... but FYI, there is no such thing as a 2014 "DODGE" Ram, it'd be like saying Dodge Jeep. RAM separated from the Dodge name back in 2009- something that will take a long time for all of us that have always called RAM a Dodge.
Ugh.
Actually.... sir. Any ram made up until 2012 is considered a dodge ram. 2013 and up is ram.
