My boyfriend and I have been making eggnog for Christmas for the last few years. We make the cooked version, which sounds more difficult, but its not. And after making it a few times I've figured out that cooking it is safer with all the worries about eggs. I've also figured out the longer you cook it the more it gels ,or gets thicker. So if you don't like a thick custardly texture, don't let it cook very long.use only the minimum amount of time to make it safe. We also add vanilla cinnamon and nutmeg to the base, not just on top.
that was nice hearing your past chritmas's in your family!! memories like these are things we remember forever!! when i prepared this recipe i did not have half gallon but i did have 1/4 of 1% milk and 1/4 of oat because i could not get out of the house due to the noreaster i got in upstate ny... i also used the blue sweetener because i am diabetic. it was very good and i warmed it up with a couple of christmas sugar cookies and sat by my tree enjoying them... im still snowed in at the moment but luckily i have 4 cans of sweetened condensed milk and about a half a bag of milk powder to hold us over until our driveway is cleaned well enough...

I have drank eggnog my whole life that’s made with raw eggs and I have never had an issue been sick or anything else from it. My mom made it that way my grandma made it that way and that’s the way I make it. It’s the best eggnog ever! And I’m 74 now.
Hi Paula I have always wanted to know how to make eggnog. And now I have the grandmother of them all, your mom's recipe! I will be making this as soon as I get some liquor. I love eggnog. just about the only time of year I drink any liquor is from Christmas Or New Years day. I have a short cut on the whipped cream. I put my whip cream in my nutra bullet and it is whipped in 5 seconds flat! perfect! I use the half pint so that is all that will fit on one go around, just do it in two rounds. Its so good! thanks you for all of the holiday recipes and love and best dishes to your family from Texas xoxoxo
My momma made two bowls of egg nog…the adults nog and the children’s nog. She always put the children’s nog in her cut glass punch bowl and let us, helping the littles of course, dip out our own in the little punch bowl glass cups. It made us feel so special. I didn’t even know about the adult nog in the freezer on the carport until I was 10. I thought so many people were outside on the carport, laughing and cutting up, because some were smoking and everyone knew momma hated cigarette smoke. I miss her so much.

Real good and olé-fashioned Eggnog is simple enough to make. But it is very- very rich. Begin with an old-tried-and- true recipe for a good and creamy custard. I grew-up on it, so what I was given originally had no alcohol and personally I think that I actually prefer it without. Watch that lovely movie once again called 'The Homecoming'. The Ladies were known all around town for 'Their Recipe'; this wasn't their Nogg, but the scene with John-Boy and his moma was just so very precious. Cooking it can indeed kinda ruin it a bit. Use extra yolks, a real premium Nogg should be richness first and foremost. A lot of folks get kind-of wierded-out about the protein that moma puts in place to secure the little baby chick; I know that it's kind of gross for some, but actually all that it actually is - is just what's called 'Twisted Albumin', it's really just curled-up egg-white to protect baby from being sloshed-round. They're super simple to winnow out. If you use butter, never ever use margarine, and a reputable diary should always be-among your letters to Santa. Use all natural whole whipping cream. Use granulated real sugar, or use brown but you may need to temper the molasses a little. Use whole natural Nutmeg and and invest in a Grater. Use whole milk, not fat-free or reduced.
I have made essentially this recipe for "Southern eggnog" since a Christmas party in 1968 which my roommate and I gave. She was from Alabama and we were graduate students at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and it was her recipe. I serve it each December to a small group of friends when we do a "meet and eat" evening.
Made this eggnog, non alcoholic, put it into the freezer, and stiring now and then. Had it with Thanksgiving dinner and it was so delicious. Thanks for sharing .
Thank you so much for posting this. My mom used to make this when I was a kid and it was so good! I never got the recipe from her and she passed away 12 years ago. I am going to make this! Merry Christmas 🎄

We have in the states at Xmas time. It is good. But what most people don't know is that you have 1/2 cup of it at most. You dont drink a big ole 8oz glass of it. Since its so rich. You sip it very slowly. and half a cup is the most you usually have. A nice toasting drink.

Michael says, “egg and whiskey don’t go together, I drink whiskey with whiskey!” He makes me laugh every time!
I’m going to try Michael’s recipe. 👍🏻
Well it depends on what else is in it....a fruitcake soaked in bourbon, or brandy is delicious..... but you must buy a good fruitcake, not a dollar store one.....check out online the MONKS make one that I hear is very good.....hope to try it one day....
Paula and Michael both have wonderful self deprecating senses of humor, but together they are even better! I just love seeing them both when I get on YT! In fact, Paula's whole 'gang' is just wonderful together!
Paula, I adore you! I wish you a Holiday Season filled with love, laughter, family and friends! MUCH love to you and yours! XO

Good Morning Y'all... It's not Christmas if you don't have Eggnog yummy. Thank you so much Paula for this recipe. I agree..if I get a fried egg where the white is watery... it's all over no eggs for me 🤢. Have a wonderful day everyone much love from Alabama🎄⛄🎁🤶🎅 ♥️🤗. Paula ,Eddie, Teresa have a wonderful day♥️
Ikr. Runny egg whites are such a turn off.....YUK!!! Expecting over a foot of snow tonight and into tomorrow! With white out conditions...YIKES!!! What's it like in Alabama? Wishing you blue skies, girl! 💕😍💖

My father has been gone since day before Father's Day in 1997 & my mother left us April 5, 2014. My brother & I are still here, with our children & I actually have grandchildren now!! Two identical twins boys, & another one on the way 😍 will be here in May or June. I really do wish I could have that one Christmas, with ALL of our family together! Especially since my Dad never got to meet my youngest nephew, or my two sons. My grandbabies were born on January 28, 2019 so, my mother never got to meet them. They are so adorable!! My parents would be so proud!! I love Christmas, but not having my parents always makes this time of year so sad. Definitely going to be trying this eggnog recipe!! Thank you!! Sending love, light & good, positive vibes your way & to everyone else out there!!! Merry Christmas!! 😍🎅🤶🎄🎊🎉🎁

I frequently wish I could go back for just one more Christmas with my gram. I adore you Paula Deen! You look fantastic and it’s so great to hear your voice and your laughter. God bless. Xoxo
You are a woman who loves what she's doing because that little mixer didn't seem to phase you at all. Love it. Just like my Grandma. Looking forward to "Love and Best Dishes" or whatever you will be calling it. Stay healthy, be safe, and many blessings, Morgan
Your making of home made eggnog brings back many Holiday memories. I taught my children the tradition and now they make it for their family.
I've been making your mama's eggnog for years and it's become our family tradition. I now pasteurize the eggs myself as store bought pasteurized eggs are hard to find. Thank you Paula!!
Paula, I agree that Christmas can be sad when loved ones are no longer with us. Mom's family.....wonderful, loving people. Biological dad wouldn't allow Mom to see her parents toward the end of their relationship. His cruelty and severe abuse led to their divorce when I turned 14. Finally, Mom was FREE. {Marie Louise Trambley} P.S. Paula, you remind me of Mom's older sisters! xo
Have a beautiful time ahead
Happy winter
Sending lots of love to everyone who reads🥰
We have a local dairy that makes Egg Nog every year and it sells out fast. But I'm tempted to try it homemade!!

I'm not getting the I hate the thought of eating raw eggs but meringue is cool idea. Is it just the texture?
Looks good, I think I would add cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg to the mixture..
When you beat it on the counter, if you put a dish towel under the bowl, it won't make so much noise. Thanks for the recipe.
This has almost convinced me to try it. Merry Christmas folks! Jesus truly is the reason for the season.
That was my Dad’s favorite and we made it every Christmas. Precious memories. I’d love to go back also

@@barbarawinslow5991 yes, Barbara, I, too, still do all the favorite traditions in food. As you say much scaled down, but enjoy a few leftovers too! 🎄☃️💕
@@stacey5925 Easter I find is the hardest as far as food goes Ham, beets and horseradish, pierogi and fresh kielbasa and a Hickory nut cake, we wood gather the hickory nuts in the fall and crack and pick them all winter to have ready for Easter deserts
@@barbarawinslow5991 sounds Polish! My dad used to grind fresh horseradish and add beets, he also baked the ham and kielbasa. My mom baked Easter bread with raisins. We had this on Easter Saturday, and then Easter Sunday, we did Italian, n my Mom took care of all those goodies. Fun to share and read other's traditions!

I so agree about the raw egg! But, I could die drinking egg nog, it’s my favorite thing in this wide world. Your recipe is divine. I’ll have to try it this year! Merry Christmas, Paula, to you and Michael, and Eddie and Teresa! ⚡️🎄⚡️💖
Looks and sounds delicious! And thank you Paula for having me for a walk down memory lane!
Peace and 💕 love
My momma made two bowls of egg nog…the adults nog and the children’s nog. She always put the children’s nog in her cut glass punch bowl and let us, helping the littles of course, dip out our own in the little punch bowl glass cups. It made us feel so special. I didn’t even know about the adult nog in the freezer on the carport until I was 10. I thought so many people were outside on the carport, laughing and cutting up, because some were smoking and everyone knew momma hated cigarette smoke. I miss her so much.
I still have my Mom's recipe. It says "serves 25 drunks" on the top hahahaha!!!
Love watching you so much…brings back many childhood memories…Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family…God Bless y’all !
So easy to fish out the white things with one of the shells instead of a spoon or finger. Try it, it really works.

I love to hear your stories and your recipes. ❤️ I have never had homemade eggnog but I’m going to make some. ❤️🎄 Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Real good and olé-fashioned Eggnog is simple enough to make. But it is very-
very rich. Begin with an old-tried-and-
true recipe for a good and creamy custard.

I love homemade eggnog! This recipe looks extremely decadent and delicious!! I usually make the Martha Stewart one and each year make big jars of it for gifts and each year all my friends beg for it! Will try this recipe but not this year as we are still on lockdown in NY and noone wants to get together for anything at all. Big sad.

I don't know of anybody who has this ! In the UK we have a different tradition - we have hot mulled wine and mince pies with brandy butter on Christmas Eve.
Hello, how’re you and family doing?
Ah we had mince pies on Xmas. My grandmother would make plum pudding too. Parts of my fam from bath England. Greetings from US. I like yor Xmas hats. Where that tradition come from?
@@2Ryled that’s good
We have in the states at Xmas time. It is good. But what most people don't know is that you have 1/2 cup of it at most. You dont drink a big ole 8oz glass of it. Since its so rich. You sip it very slowly. and half a cup is the most you usually have. A nice toasting drink.
Starting new traditions with my children and grandchildren this year . This will be on the list! Cheers to your mamma Paula! Thank you , you are my❣️

Did you know you can buy pasteurized eggs in cartons, (like cream)? That means they are heated to kill bacteria. That is what I use.
Hello, how’re you and family doing?
I worked at a hospital cafeteria. They use pasteurized eggs only. They came pasteurized from supplier
But does it come separated and make meringue?
Not sure of meringue. Never tried to make meringue with the pasteurized eggs. But, they were whole eggs in the shell.

It would make for better audio, too. I think it's a good idea for video production, though maybe just doing it on wood instead of granite would help.

Hi you'll, I think the noise is due to a bad design o malfunction of the beaters, they seem to be made of a stiff wire, but something is not right. It should not shake or tremble like that.
