Hey Paula! If you add bacon grease to your canned green beans it gets rid of the metal taste. I pour water and beans in pot , add 1 Tbsp of bacon grease per can and cook for 12 to 15 minutes in a rolling boil. If you like you can drain the beans. They will keep the bacon flavor. Happy cooking. Love your show.

I just made this in advance for tomorrows Thanksgiving dinner and my 8 year old is hugging my tablet saying she loves Paula Deen and that this the best green been casserole she's ever had!🤩
I use cream of chicken with Italian green beans and no onion no cheese no butter but i put the french's fried onions inside and on top and a little season all and everyone wants to know why my taste better than any theyve ever had. I have converted people who thought they hated green bean casserole! 👍
True about casseroles! At my first TG down here there was a broccoli casserole, a superb sweet potato casserole, a potato casserole(scalloped), (in addition to the mashed potatoes), a carrot casserole, and as close as one could get to a cranberry casserole with out actually putting mayo or sour cream into it and baking it ( a cranberry salad actually, so good!), a corn casserole, and of course the green bean casserole. It's true, Yankees love this. My parents never served this, but there's been one at every Thanksgiving dinner I've been to or hosted since I was 21! Thanks for sharing!
She's not going back to the "Big Kitchen." That house has been sold. Paula and Michael are downsizing to another house which is either being built or remodeled. They are staying in Bobby's guest house until then.
My family’s favorite!!!! ALWAYS use canned green beans I have been to someone’s house that the green bean casserole was terrible more than one time!!! Using frozen green bean’s. Thank you Paula yours looks amazing!!!
Mrs Paula, I just love the way you use your finger to get every drop off the Spatula into the pan. My grandmother use to do the same way. That's for continuing the videos! I don't miss a one!!!❤❤
Paula, one of my favorite things about the holidays was watching you on Food Network and watching all of the holiday cooking just made the season for me. I lost both of my parents recently and it’s been a tough year without seeing the rest of my family since last Christmas, and I just want to thank you for continuing the holiday cooking shows. I put your cooking videos on and it just feels like the holidays again, even during these tough times. Thank you for taking the time to do this for us. We love you, and happy holidays!
Green bean casserole is my absolute favorite thanksgiving dish! I sauté onion, garlic, and bacon in butter until translucent. When done, add cream of mushroom, bring to a boil, then add cubed velveeta and let it melt. Mix in green beans and fried onions, put in casserole dish, then top with more fried onions. My goodness it’s delicious! 🤤🤤
This takes green bean casserole over the top for me, enough that I may make it this week to try it out. Ive never been a huge fan, but your recipe sounds so delicious, I think we’ll really love it! Loving, loving all these great Thanksgiving recipes! Thank you sooo much, Paula, love you sooo much! ⚡️💖⚡️
I’ve made this recipe every year for Christmas and Thanksgiving for the last 10 years. Everyone loves and requests it every year since I first made it. ALWAYS USE FRESH GREEN BEANS THOUGH ❤
Good morning, Paula, Eddie n Theresa! Just wondering, it sounds like your oven racks are in backwards. The curve part of rack should be in the back. The curve "stops" the racks from coming all the way out when you pull them to retrieve your dish. The curve "catches" on the sides of the oven. G.B. casserole looks so tasty. I never liked it with fresh beans either. Something about the can bean!🦃🦃🐾💕😁

@@adrianguynn5807 People who have migraine headaches shouldn't eat that type of green bean, did you know that? The common name for those beans is "fava beans".
@@adrianguynn5807 Perhaps you haven't tried a good canned green beans, no flat italian ones for sure....try the blue lake green bean by Del Monte.....you gotta buy a good brand of green beans....frozen beans are horrible to me, I can not eat them....You have to drain your beans, rinse them well , add more water just to cover them and add some spices.... some onion powder, garlic power, parsley, for goodness sakes use fresh spices if you can find them in the stores ....not available year around where I live..... if you can't then use the powdered spices .....I know chefs that even use them..... so also to your beans, fry a piece of bacon or even two if you like bacon, fry crisp set aside, add some of the bacon grease to your beans, you might want to add other spices that you might like, but only a little at a time until you get it just right.... then let your beans boil on high until the water has all boiled down....watch your beans carefully near the end or you will let them burn....stay with the beans and keep stirring near the end when most all the water is boiled down.....this is how you make canned green beans edible.....you just can't open a can of beans & heat them up and eat them, it would taste horrible, and just salt & pepper won't do it by itself.... near the end of the evaporation fo the water, you can add some salt & black pepper, but go easy on the salt.....try this and see if you don't think they are better to eat with a meal.... I much prefer fresh green beans than any frozen or canned, but you can't always find them if you live in a colder state .....hope this helps .....
My family loved watching you on the food network channel. Hi Paula and Eddie, and Teresa, here in the center of USA, Ill-Ind line150 miles south of Chicago; we green bean, and sweet potato casseroles, corn bread and sage dressing (sauted onions in butter with neck meat, add to seasoned broth and pour gently over dried bread, odd sizes and natural drying make the best, and bake till it raises and heats thru). Mashed taters, gravy, dumplings or noodles, sometime both😋, broccoli salad, cranberry sauce, candied carrots, rolls and Pies!😃chocolate, sugar, mince eat and pumpkin! Folks come from Kty and Tenn!
Looks yummy....!! Thank you Miss Paula...!! One of my favorite casseroles is a vegetable casserole. 2 cans of vegall 1/2 cup mayonnaise 1 cup chopped celery and 1 cup chopped onion ( sauteed ) . 1 cup shredded cheese Cook vegall for about 30 minutes in a saucepan. Then drain vegetables. Pour in a bowl. Add cheese to mayonnaise and mix that in with the vegetables. Then add the celery and onions to the rest of your vegetables, cheese, and mayonnaise. Mix all together real well. Butter a glass casserole dish . Pour mixture into the buttered dish . Then melt butter in microwave. Mix the melted butter with about 2 sleeves of Ritz crackers . Put on top of casserole. Preheat oven 350° . Cook for about 45 minutes. Tip....you might want to cover your casserole with aluminum foil for about 15 minutes. That way you don't burn your topping. Then remove the aluminum foil and continue to cook for 30 more minutes. 😊❤
Hi Bonnie Brown, This sounds so good! Thank you. I use canned veg-all, or a can of mixed vegetables, with a box of Stovetop stuffing, and canned or leftover chicken, 3 Tblspn butter cut up, microwave for 5 minutes in a CorningWare casserole dish. My late husband is the one that cooks with mayonnaise. He would have loved your recipe. I'm looking forward to trying this, thank you. Take care, stay safe, have a nice day. 👵☺️✌️☮️🖖 😷 🙉🙈🙊
Does she ever! I watched her on TV make it years ago. Maybe she will demonstrate it here, but you can find the recipe on the internet. I make it several times a year.
Now I'm curious who this chef was and what was in this awful green bean casserole she tried Lol. Anybody had somebody try to jazz up a classic dish and it turned out awful before? I am with Paula, if it has always worked, it doesn't need to be improved.
I never ate canned green beans as a kid or really any canned veggies. Mama always had a big garden to keep her 10 kids fed. As an adult I gag on the tin taste in canned veggies to this day. I've rinsed, tried cooking in stock, everything to try to cover up that metal taste to no avail. So I make mine using fresh green beans, onions, mushrooms & sliced celery. Mama also made her own mushroom soup and thickened it to add to the casserole by stirring it into a rue. Her green bean casserole was one of the 1st dishes to disappear at church events and holiday gatherings. She made it the same way my grandma made hers with a crunchy Ritz cracker & walnut topping. I think what decides "good" is what you grew up on.
Hi Zoe Emiko, Didn't y'all can any of your garden vegetables? Mason jar canning will give you the softer green beans to cook this with. Or use frozen. My family canned and froze from the backyard garden, and my grandparents farm. I didn't eat store bought veggies until after their divorce, but I got used to it. Take care, stay safe, have a nice day. 👵☺️✌️☮️🖖 😷 🙉🙈🙊
Oh yum, I've never added cheese, but I certainly will next time I make it. I just made green bean casserole and added a can of chicken breast, and had it as a main dish. Miss Paula, it's my favorite too. Thank you for the wonderful recipe.
I have tears in my eyes right now..This reminds me of going to North Carolina to my Grandma's house for Thanksgiving..Green bean casserole was one of my favorites..I just miss her so much...Now I'm the Gramma and I will be making this on Thanksgiving...Between my Gramma and Paula Deen, I have some big shoes to fill..I hope mine comes out just as good..Thanks for sharing the recipe..♥️
11/16/20...Kinda like I make mine, but why do you cook the beans 10 more mins? They are already done, !! and you rinsed them several times....and I add the dried onions on the top, maybe will try it this time by adding a few inside....but definitely no cheese.....first time I have ever seen anyone use cheese on top....I even think the buttered crackers on top would even be better....maybe I'll make half with butter crumbs & and the other half with the onions....or maybe I'll just make 2 and see which one will be eaten first.....LOL....
I would put all the beans! And I add 1/4 cup of sour cream. I do what you do....... drain then rinse my beans. And like you suggested, I top with mashed soda crackers mixed with melted butter. So good!
I watch all your videos!! I would love it if you made a red velvet cake!! And we’ll be having Mrs. Paula’s green bean casserole this year! Thank you so much! Love and blessings from Tennessee!!

I've never put cheese in green bean casserole. I wouldn't make g-b-c at all but the hubby likes it so for me I add corn into it. Green beans usually the cut smaller ones in the can (not the chunky ones like Paulas here), some corn not creamed, cream of mushroom soup, a little milk and put all in my baking dish and top with lots of fried onion pieces. yummy to me!
Thank you for sharing your recipes with us, Miss Paula. The greenbean casserole looks yummy, of course. I think "Dishing with Paula" is the obvious name for your show. I make a good green pigeon pea rice. I wanna share the recipe with you.

I love you Paula Dean and very one of your recipes that I have tried. One year, after making this for my husband, he volunteered me to make this recipe for his grandmother's thanksgiving lunch, now she tells me very year (over 13+ years) to bring this recipe. For Thanksgiving, I do use fresh green beans cooked in chicken stock but any other time it's canned. I also put just a little fried onions and cheddar cheese INTO the casserole and the rest on top.
“We brought the green bean casserole!!!” Do y’all remember that commercial? I think of it everything I make it. Lol I’ve never made green bean casserole like yours, but it looks DELICIOUS and I think my hubby is going to quite surprised & happy this year because it looks a LOT better than mine. Silicone spatulas will not burn or melt. They are intended for high heat, and really do hold up well. Invest and you will never have to replace or cut/trim spatulas, which isn't really a good food safety idea. Bits of rubber can break off into food when cut. 😁🦃🍗. They won't break the bank.

Hi ms Paula this dish looks so yummy. I have a question. Will BOBBY be making his lighter dish of green bean casserole too because that's also very yummy? Stay safe MS Paula!!!!
Hi Ms Paula, Thank you for the video, great one as usual. I put the French fried onions inside as well as on top. But I put the ones on top at the end, the last few minutes of cooking. I also put in a can full of milk, and a dollup to a half cup of sour cream into the cream of mushroom soup. As well as 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, a splash of soy sauce, a few dashes of garlic powder, a couple dashes of onion powder, and a couple dashes of pepper, dash of salt. An extra jar of mushrooms. I also use at least 3 different cans of green beans, like: wax beans, kitchen cut, and French cut; sometimes Italian cut, very green, or long cut. Depends on how many people I'm cooking for. Bake at 350°F for 30 to 45 minutes, until liquid is reduced and thickened. I always bring home an empty dish when I bring it to potlucks. I've never seen it with cheese on it; but that looks so good. Take care, stay safe, have a nice day. 👵☺️✌️☮️🖖 😷 🙉🙈🙊

I miss your Big Kitchen , it's more warm and relaxing .
This is only temporary 😉
She's not going back to the "Big Kitchen." That house has been sold. Paula and Michael are downsizing to another house which is either being built or remodeled. They are staying in Bobby's guest house until then.
@@ilovegoodsax ooooh now sad. I’m happy for them. But I loved that house.
Every time I have used this recipe, I bring home a clean casserole dish. Love you, Paula!! 🥰
My family’s favorite!!!! ALWAYS use canned green beans I have been to someone’s house that the green bean casserole was terrible more than one time!!! Using frozen green bean’s. Thank you Paula yours looks amazing!!!
I have to use frozen green beans. The canned ones are way too mushy and completely without texture or nutrients! But, to each their own. 😁
Good idea french cut right?
Not french cut green beans... they are too full of water... but cooked frozen are perfectly okay.
I mix ritz crackers, cheddar cheese and French fried onions 🧅 for the topping
Me too, Dana!
Do you crush the Ritz crackers. Cover them in butter? How did the layers work? Is it cheese first followed by crackers, followed by the onions?
Yep, that is what I was thinking because, mine are curved.
@@gloriamahaffey5797 Hope she sees the post so she doesn't have to struggle any more than she is with temp control. She did say though, she was getting used to it!🍗🥧🍷
I agree.....someone check her oven racks.....
Unless the floor in that kitchen has a slope to it, like mine :-) stuff doesn’t slide out that way :-) LMAO
I only like canned greenbean casserole in casseroles
Me too but I sure don't use those big flat Italian green beans either. Personally I don't like those at all.
@@adrianguynn5807 People who have migraine headaches shouldn't eat that type of green bean, did you know that? The common name for those beans is "fava beans".
@@Viviancanderson No I did not know that, interesting because I happen to be prone to migraines. Guess it's a good thing I don't care for them lol
@@TheKentuckylady717 I have used the Del Monte blue lake's exclusively for years, though they are not always available at my local market.
I'm with you, Eddie, crunchy top!
My family loved watching you on the food network channel. We watched you so much that when my son was 7, the church asked him to do a Thanksgiving scrapbook theme on what he was thankful for, and he said he was thankful for you, and glued your picture on there. It was so cute, everyone talked about it
I am from Boston, MA. but we always have some sort of string bean casserole and for Christmas 🎄 as well. God Bless wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday.
Love that one. My great aunt made cheesy grits for Thanksgiving too. Casserole Heaven!
Stay home please and don’t infect your loved ones!! Make this awesome recipe for your immediate in home loved ones...or share it on zoom. 💜💕💜
I cooked Martha Stewart's with white wine and pearl onions.....You re right if it's not broken don't add pearl onions and white wine.
2 cans of vegall
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 cup chopped celery and 1 cup chopped onion ( sauteed ) .
1 cup shredded cheese
Cook vegall for about 30 minutes in a saucepan.
Hi Bonnie Brown,
This sounds so good!

Green Bean casserole is my all time favorite Thanksgiving dish!
Thank you, Paula for including them along with your " Best Dishes" recipes.
Hi Mrs. Paula! Can you do a creamed corn casserole?
Does she ever! I watched her on TV make it years ago. Maybe she will demonstrate it here, but you can find the recipe on the internet. I make it several times a year.
@@rikkitikkitavi997 I just looked back at the Quarantine cooking videos, and she actually made a video on a corn casserole back in April!
Yes that sounds good....I .haven't made that one in a long time....
Yes I love creamed corn casserole
Hate electronics stoves I use my gas and love it but anything Paula makes on any stove is Awesome 🤗
Hey Paula, I think your oven racks are in backwards. Usually that lip is supposed to be in the back, not the front. Love and best dishes!
I think what decides "good" is what you grew up on.
frozen good quality green beans or fresh only
Hi Zoe Emiko,
Didn't y'all can any of your garden vegetables? Mason jar canning will give you the softer green beans to cook this with. Or use frozen. My family canned and froze from the backyard garden, and my grandparents farm. I didn't eat store bought veggies until after their divorce, but I got used to it.
Take care, stay safe, have a nice day.
👵☺️✌️☮️🖖 😷 🙉🙈🙊
A lot of people make it using fresh beans from the garden.
I absolutely love Paula’s cooking shows ! Haven’t missed a one ! I learn and laugh with each one❤️
Teresa cracks me up... I don't want to burn my mouth like you're doing 😅😂😅
Oh yum, I've never added cheese, but I certainly will next time I make it. I just made green bean casserole and added a can of chicken breast, and had it as a main dish.
Miss Paula, it's my favorite too. Thank you for the wonderful recipe.
Thank you for the idea Sue!
I am a lunch lady and we have a gas stove we cook on at the school . I have a gas stove in my RV too. I love cooking on the gas stoves.
I agree about the induction burners.... that’s what I used when I did the Aprons cooking demos at Publix.... I prefer gas ❤️.... also lots of French onions on the top!!! (You also need to buy extra because of the snacking while preparing 😘)
Green Bean Casserole is my FAVORITE at every holiday!!! My Favorite veggie is Green Beans, and I love everything that has onions!
My family has always mixed cream cheese with the mushroom soup and it's my favorite casserole of the holidays. Thanksgiving isn't truly Thanksgiving in my family without it
I am glad you are back on. For Holiday meal reminders there are only a few people I search for my meals, you and Alton Brown. Living in the N'awlins French Quarter for many years, alway have Thanksgiving and Christmas with regular holiday dishes combined with our seafood dishes...I would love some oyster dressing right now..lol. Where is your beautiful home kitchen or was it just a prop. ...ah, I cant believe you are cooking on a electric stove top in somebodys apartment. Love you keep those shows coming, would love to see you with your family.
Tony- Best food on the entire planet is in N’awlins. Traveled all over this world and tasted all kinds of food, nothing came close to the food served where you live. And I do love Paula’s cooking, my mother cooked recipes just like hers, comforts of home. I spent 2 weeks in N’awlins and almost put myself into a food coma...it was fabulous! 😉Rusty’s wife
I also watch on UA-cam, "Collard Valley Cooks" with Tammy. She is in Ga. too.
I love it when you get happy "yes ma'am" you make good dishes. Ty keep them coming.... How about "mama's chess pie" or your pumpkin, lemon meringue or pecan or sweet potato pie" They're staple Thanksgiving Desserts... Ty
I absolutely love green bean casserole thanks for making it!!!
Also love cooking on a gas stove, but induction is a new favorite. I've found that it heats up almost as quickly.
Thank you for sharing your recipes with us, Miss Paula. The greenbean casserole looks yummy, of course.
I think "Dishing with Paula" is the obvious name for your show. It's like a cooking show and a talk show in one great package. 👍
PS. I loved the "tidbit" about the other chefs greenbean casserole. 😉
I always have to have canned green beans for my casserole.
I use the recipe on the back of Frenchs fried onion box, and using cream of mushroom with cremini and shittake soup adds more flavor.
I have had some bad green bean casseroles also. This is tried and true for real.
Paula Deen is the “Queen” when it comes to southern cuisine!🤗
"Gimme that camera!" Cracked me up! Hahahaha😂🤣 I love green beans with the onions on top too. So if I make it this year I'm gonna put cheese and onions on top.
In Puerto Rico we eat for thanksgiving: Green Pigeon peas rice with a smoked ham or sausage inside, roasted turkey or pork, and potato salad or macaroni salad with an avocado on the side. I make a good green pigeon pea rice. I wanna share the recipe with you.
Love you Paula. I met you in person at your smaller Lady and Sons 24 years ago. You are still fantastic and I love ya Darlin. Shawn Smith.
This looks much better than my old green bean casserole recipe which only has canned beans, mushroom soup and canned fried onions. I plan to use YOUR recipe at Christmas time, Paula. it was delightful seeing Eddie take a bite. He is so cute and has a million-dollar grin!
I hope it turned out good 👍🏻🦃💜🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃
this was so yummy crossed over into canada too just love your recipes another fun video

Hawaiian yams? Sounds delicious. Would you share the recipe? Thanks!
I have never had any casserole dishes in my life! These look so good! Casseroles are the way to go. I usually do about three or four side dishes for the holidays but these look quicker and easier! What does Eddie’s sticker say?
What?!!! Are you from the states? Girl, you gotta try broccoli or green bean casserole or I recommend both lol. So good!
Where on this great planet are you from??? 😲 😱 😲
I know! I have been missing out so much! This casserole has got me good. I can taste the crunch of those onion ring thingies!!!

“We brought the green bean casserole!!!”
Do y’all remember that commercial? I think of it everything I make it. Lol
I’ve never made green bean casserole like yours, but it looks DELICIOUS and I think my hubby is going to quite surprised & happy this year because it looks a LOT better than mine.

I just found your channel and love it. I don't know if you are still recording like this today, but if you are it will be great watching you. I like how you are back to basics and don't do all that extravagant silly frilly stuff! Thank you.
Yea I like the crunchy top too.
Agree on the canned beans. My favorite at Thanksgiving! Love your videos
I cut my spatula like that because I burned it 😆
;)
I cut mine because the cheap thing melted!
😂😂
@@stacey5925 Very good point on the food safety! Do you have any recommendations as to brand or where to buy them? Do you have any particular favorites?
Good to see Eddie! And beautiful casserole! I'd top it with a mix of chopped pecans, ritz crackers, french onions and parmesan.
Hi ms Paula this dish looks so yummy. I have a question. Will BOBBY be making his lighter dish of green bean casserole too because that's also very yummy? Stay safe MS Paula!!!!
Hi Ms Paula,
Thank you for the video, great one as usual.
