I LOVE that the auger is front mounted, but the speed is so slow that I would stick with the rear mount PTO driven augers. On the plus side, the dirt that the Auger is pulling up is gorgeous! I never saw any rocks/boulders.
Now you need to find a jackhammer-style tamper for the tractor.

if you have boulders, a post hole digger wont do you any good,,,you will need an air drill and dynamite
A side note on an FEL mounted hydraulic post hole auger... I have seen them mounted on the side of the normal bucket using a bolt on plate. Note that you will have to drill the required holes in the side of your bucket for the mounting plate. The advantage of this mounting option is that it makes it far easier to see where the auger's tip is being located when seated in the tractor's seat. The disadvantage vs a SSQA is, well, no quick attach to attach and remove the auger.
48" x 9" auger, soft, wet, or hard dirt my rear post hole digger requires 40 HP tractor, BUT 1000 holes plus my 20 HP 3 point rear Holly was excellent. I like Blue.

With the rear lightweight blade you need to lengthen your top link to pitch the blade back so it will cut much better it makes a lot of difference

Ive got a standard simple 3 pt hitch/ pto type Auger.
No shortage of power there!
Im having trouble seeing the advantage in the front mounted hydraulic type, seems like more cost and complexity for less power. Also full visibility with the 3 pt type, although I do have to sit sideways on the seat to really keep eyes on the Auger.
The only thing to watch with the PTO Auger is not to allow it to get too far in the ground at once. You can screw the thing into hard clay such that even a good sized ag tractor (2440)has difficulty extracting the Auger.
We had it on my son-in-laws compact 950, got it jammed, had to disconnect and work very hard to remove the Auger. Not much lift on that tractor and we were a little too aggressive on the drilling.
On the 2440 in our soil the Auger does a 3' deep 12" hole in about 30-45 seconds. As always, very informative. I learned that I don't need the front mounted Auger but do need that box blade!
I have a smaller shelterlogic we bought 3 years ago. It did ok for a couple years storing straw bales in but the fabric rubs through on all the bends and then gorilla tape is all that is keeping you from a shredded cover in a wind. There almost needs to be a “farm rated” thickness. I saw that they have a thicker tarp online as the replacement. Wish it would’ve just shipped with that one.
You should have used the stones to fill the hole around the pole. They create great drainage and you couldn't pull that pole out of the ground with a crane, I know I've done it before, just a thought. And it would be solid as a rock.
It sure is nice having a lot of good friends who are willing to come and help. When you said you were building a new building I thought you were building a pole barn I didn't know it was going to be a hoop building. A hoop building will be just fine for parking machines in. I have always used a 3 point auger hooked to the pto and it spins fast enough to pull the dirt out of the hole. Love yalls videos!

Next time use 3/4-7/8 crushed rock to set the poles it allows the post to breath, never rots and it locks the post into the earth.Great project brother. Bless you
Excellent job,as a former fence installer I appreciate all your techniques.
I used a 40hp IH without a 3rd function or remote,which meant using the tilt hoses for the 14 inch auger.
I would have to change hoses for attach/detaching.
Trying to hit the mark within 2 inches ,and keeping the auger plumb on hills can be challenging.
Vinyl fence posts need to be +/- 1/8 inch space for distance.
There was never enough hydraulic flow to discharge the dirt .

Hey Tim. Huge huge fan. Been watching you for years. You helped me decide to go with a 1025r on 3 acres. Now I have 70 acres and back in the market for a tractor. I’m between a 4066r and a 5075m. What I don’t know is how to drive a 12/12 5075! You do the best at teaching. Will you do an in-depth lesson on how to drive your 5075e? I want to drive it like a manual car and It’s totally different. I want to clutch every move. Thanks for being there for us pal!

I've got a barn over 50 years old, posts are in concrete and it's still fine. In our county in Kentucky the inspector won't pass a pole building unless there is gravel under the 6x6 and the post is set with 2 bags of Sacrete.
Im pretty sure he said it was a temporary building. So not going to concrete them in.
@@josephbenge8707 just remarking about his comment that posts rot in concrete, that hasn't been our experience at all using treated 6x6 bonded wood.
Most posts rot in concrete.
@@TractorTimewithTim must be an Indiana thing because here they won't allow poles without concrete. My dad built a barn in 72, posts are fine I'm concrete, we peeled them back to check

Those tractors sure do come in handy for working in the dirt, gravel or a lot of other things. I am still amazed at what a tractor can do and how much time and effort it can save a person. I never thought it would be a good idea to have one but now don't know what I'd do with out it, tractor on from west central Illinois
Very cool. Can’t wait to see the finished product. We have 2 Shelter Logic structures at my job. One for road salt storage and one for parking our Deere 5220. They do the job just fine.
One thing that would be nice with those forklift attachments would be if they could add a side shift function like they do on a dedicated forklift. It would be helpful when you have to do some side-to-side movement so you wouldn't have to back up and steer one way or the other. Especially if something only needs to shift a few inches one way or the other.
Oh it's amazing. We had once custom built for a 6R with a 3rd function.
With a front auger way out like that,its very easy to adjust.
Sometimes just turning the wheel will plumb up the auger.
I added a used mini skid steer hydraulic auger to my Mahindra 2638 by bolting to a new quick attach plate. I found drilling holes the auger would, most of the time, pull itself in without me putting down pressure. The exception was when I hit rocks and roots. But plane red clay in NC it pulled itself down.
The box blade can remove the gravel a little at a time and I hope you all have the placed cleaned up where you are putting your building. That is a good beginning to the building being started and I hope it all works out fine for you all. There is plenty of help there to help you all and they are doing a fine job.
We put white rock around the post we build help drain water and locks the post in place nice job looks great
To get more tractive effort to the ground when boxblading, carry stone in the bucket or a big log in the grapple.

I'm continually impressed with the landscape rake on the Ventrac. It seems to chew on anything. 😃
I would highly recommend a 3-pt/PTO driven auger. You run it at high speed and periodically yank it out of the ground and the dirt flys off the auger. It only takes one person to run it too. Then use crushed rock to line the bottom of the hole and for fill. Dirt will rot the posts.

Yep TTWT I’ve seen the other videos you posted. I love all your videos. However I screamed in horror as I watched you screw the auger into the ground. When using the 3-pt you learn to take little bites and pull it up. You’ll get a feel for it. But if you ever let it get away from you and you started to burry it the ground, stop immediately and have a 24” pipe wrench on hand to back it out. Works like a champ.
I suspect you are not attempting to use a subcompact tractor.
Actually yes. An old JD955 that could lift only about 900 lbs on its 3-point which is similar to the 2000 series. The HP didn’t seem to matter. This was with Iowa clay soil. You just dig about a foot (or less sometimes) and pull to clear the soil. Then repeat. You’ll feel when it starts to screw in and you’ve gone a bit too far to quickly.
Great video. Youve made the point in several videos of saying that these utility and compact tractors do not have enough hydraulics in them and i totally agree. My old 54 NAA has a wagner loader and a sherman backhoe on it. This tractor came from the factory with no hydraulics. Now it has 2. Backhoe has a pump that runs off the PTO and the loader has a pump that runs off of the front of the crank. Both have self contained tanks. I have kicked around the idea of building a 3 pt mounted tank, PTO mounted hydro pump, and a couple sets of electric valves to operate 3 funtion loader options and such to keep from robbing from tractor hydraulics. Tank can also be used as ballast. Id like to see Deere, Kabota, New Holland come up with SOMETHING to improve on the hydraulics.
They already have such a thing. Deere makes the HP2025 and HP2134 which offer 16 and 20 GPM respectively at around 3000 PSI. For comparison, Skid Steer machines high flow hydraulics are in the 26 to 40 GPM and can go as high as 5000 PSI.

I use a Danuser EP6, offset to the right with a quick attach mount on a 5065E. It tops out around 60 rpm. I can dig a 4 ft hole in one pass then 1 or 2 to clean loose soil. I dont spin the bit while pulling it out. It won't spin the dirt off like a PTO auger but I can shake it off easy enough after backing away from the hole and rapidly switching between forward and reverse. I run the tractor at 1500 rpm to do this as well as the drilling. Wouldn't trade it for a rear auger. 4 ft hole 15" dia. In less than 5 minutes complete. I am using a diverter on the curl function to drive it.
You may need an auxiliary power pack to plug into PTO for more hydraulic power. They are bout 24GPM flow for your 5 series and about $5,500 ish.
That auger mounted on the loader is really slick!
Looking good. I like taking an old sheet of plywood and cut a round hole in the middle slightly larger than the auger bit. Put it down on the ground and drill thru it and all your spoils are on a nice “shovel-able” surface. Plus, it helps prevent cave in’s if you have to stand close to the edge. Can’t wait to see the next video.

you should use the rear hydraulic outlets to power the auger. The hydraulic flow of the tractor pump is much higher than the diverter is capable of flowing so that was limiting your speed on the auger.
I have a hydraulic auger mounted to a ssqa frame on my tractor but my dealer suggested I opt for one where the auger is mounted to the side as opposed to the center for a better view while digging. The center mounted auger is really ideal on a skid steer, not so much for a tractor.
Ok so all the buildings I have built I would have to say that power rake simply takes me by surprise!! I hate tramping in mud!!!! I would love to have a power rake for 1025 I saw you have one of those now!!! I'm older now then you on my tractor you got a new one has the third function!! Lol. I need to look into installing rear auxiliary hydro fixtures. Fur a power rake!! Great video!! Can't wait to see set up of building!!

💥 I wonder if that lens on the tractor was getting some vibration and that’s what caused the blurriness. Maybe a vibration dampener would solve the issue. That’s going to be a nice shed! 👍

I like the front mount auger. A PTO hydraulic pump would make a great addition. It could the be used on the 1025r.
Tim when I built my barndominum home I used a product called post protector over my post in the ground to protect it from decay. Ken the owner is a super guy and has followed my build out of his curiosity.
I used post protector on our previous shed at our old property. Great product.

pump on that tractor is made for lifting, not for running hyd motors. For that, you will need 100hp or larger tractor and a seriously large gpm pump

thanks for sharing the video I have a front mounted post hole digger that is very similar to yours. I'm using a kioti rx7320 to power it. mine spins a little faster than yours but when it hits a rock it just locks up. my tractor produces a flow rate @19.5 gpm. I think my auger manufacturer suggests using between 15 and 25 gpm.
In addition to the bucket mounting plate option I mentioned in another comment, I also wanted to point out that you can purchase a 3PH mounted auger that uses a hydraulic motor to drive the auger. The hydraulic motor and its auger hangs off a similar frame used on 3PH PTO powered augers. Although you'd still have the hydraulic flow issues pointed out with TTWT's FEL mounted auger, a 3PH mounted hydraulic motor powered auger does have a significant advantage over a 3PH powered auger. Specifically, you can reverse the auger's rotation to back it out of a hole if it gets stuck and can't be pulled up and out of the hole with the 3PH. However, a 3PH mounted hydraulic motor powered auger is much more expensive than a PTO powered auger.
You can reverse the rotation of the auger on the FEL as Tim demonstrated in this video. In addition, the Fel can provide down pressure which a 3PH cannot. The problem is the lack of flow on the hydraulics and the inability to spin the auger fast enough. They do make a hydraulic pump which mounts on the PTO which could solve this problem. All these options cost money and I agree with Tim. Get a skid steer if you need to auger a bunch of holes.
“Many hands lighten the load” and you had some great help. Got to see a lot of equipment in use, and I appreciate the Ag Cam camera demonstration. I’ve wondered how effective it would be using on the loader, rear etc, and it looked good. Glad you explained about the video quality on the actual monitor. I don't know if it was shaking a lot on the monitor in the cab or not, but I was surprised at how...limited the camera seemed to be stabilized. Not knocking it at all, it's still a really cool and useful addition, it's just not perfect and more vibration absorption would be a direction for the development labs at AgCam to pursue.
You don't need a bigger tractor, just have the auger at the wrong end of the tractor. You need one on the rear that hooks up to the pto.
He's used one like that and didn't like it there was no controlling going down and had a hard time pulling it back up
I have a Landpride HD35 hydraulic auger for my 33 horse Kubota. Good to see those things don't spin any faster with a larger tractor. My plan of attack is usually dig till the bit is full, lift, backup and get the dirt off behind the hole, and go in again, like you were. I look at it this way, it may not be the fastest, but I will never be digging the bit out when i hit something.
This one will reverse...so not nearly as nervous when digging.
Same with my HD35, all hydraulic augers do.

Put crush and run gravel or the rock that you have on your drive way and tamp it in it will be as hard as concrete but will also let the water run way from the post.

So it begins. Looks like there is a huge expense for the lumber needed for the foundation.
From the other Shelter Logic storage buildings I have seen they pretty much leave it up to the customer as to how they want to anchor the support tubes. Some folks just use a screw anchor, others concrete in poles or posts. Depending on where you live you may need more or less wind support. I like the way Tim did it.

Depending on where the camera was mounted over the auger, could it of been getting distortion lines due to the heat coming off of the engine.

How does the old saying go? Something like "many hands makes quick work". That auxiliary hydraulic pack you saw at the farm show would have spun that auger. Even slow still looked better than my old 3 pth auger, my neck gets sore just mentioning it.

I do not understand why you dont do a conrect fundament. The wooden posts will rot, conret not. I see this a lot in north american yt channels. Over here we use concret with a „shoe( i dont know how its called „ where the wooden oost will fit and sit. Or we put a pipe in the hole and fill kt up with concrete. And then the horizontal post ist screwed done with an spacer, so the wood cant rot.

That Ag-Cam desperately needs some antivibration mounts to get rid of that nauseating wobble. Some rubber mounts might really help. Auger worked pretty darn well for a minimum-spec tractor!

In your prior video in broadripple I think your Vinny would have did a fine job raking down the hill and grading it the post hole digger I think would have been better on the back of you tractor but thats just me in my opinion.

Wait Tim Wait!!! You are building that on the wrong building site!!! It is supposed to be built a few more states to the South. You must not have gotten the Memo?!?! So just dig it up, and I will send you the new coordinates. (Ha!Ha!) As far as I know,.....tractors usually come with Standard Flow hydraulics. They can be ordered with High-Flow hydraulics, and possibly, a dealer can install a High-Flow pump. I think there is also a PTO driven High-Flow pump that can be installed.

Was this foundation-ish inspected, I need to add on my shed. I’m wondering if I could do something like this then build conventional framing on them. My current shed is on a haunched concrete slab. I’m wondering if did this then put concrete in later. I can get stuff out of weather quicker.

I am surprised you didn't use sono tubes filled with concrete and the posts on top.
Think of the degree of difficulty to install.
I keep thinking of the freeze thaw cycle and heaving up of those posts. I always like the idea of concrete down about 5 feet and posts bolted on top of the concrete. Looks like it should last a long time either way, good work!
We are below the freeze line here. 3 ft
@@TractorTimewithTim our freeze line here in Wisconsin is 4 ft with the exception of extended days/weeks of sub -20 degree weather which is somewhat rare.
i hope you left enough clearance below as,,,over time,,you will wish you had clearance below so you can have access. Post wont rot if its treated with tar first

You couldn't set the rear SCV to continuous flow and drive the auger with this instead of the flow from a diverted 3rd function.
I don't think any of the models for tractors are decent for rock bits, we have been trying to peace something together to re fence the farm and around house, most of the holes would be in rock not having a skid steer have leaned towards getting a Belltec unit. Would love to see you demo one of those augers. Fun watch
I'd be worried about those deck screws rotting. But I guess its temporary so maybe not a big deal. Could use some galvanized lags to make it last longer.
