My mother in-law always say " your part of the do right family " so now we teach our kids that. Example if we're in a store and you decide to put something back, you put out back where you got it. Or if we're eating out, to clean up after to make it easier for the server. I enjoy watching Jonny 5! How's the Kubota? It's been kindfof MIA lol. Great job as always.

Great video as always! I love the 5E series I think their perfect for a small farm/haying operations! Especially with that can I'm sure it's a beautiful thing for all seasons! I'd love a Curtis cab for my 1025r while snowblowing in the winter!!
When I have another person around, they use a shovel to clear around the hole to avoid fall in of loose dirt. I only have a 3-point type, but I can see the auger as I dig it.
Or at least spin the auger faster to throw the dirt from around the hole.
I drill a lot of holes with the same setup on my kioti rx 7320 tractor. it's rated at 19.2 gallons per minute. works really good until you hit a big rock.

What I really like about your hydraulic post hole digger is the ability to run it in reverse. On our farm here in the Green Mountain region of Vermont, we have glacial till for soil. The till is composed primarily of a loam and clay mixture with LOTS of jagged rocks ranging in size from a football to a piano. Using a rear-mounted John Deere PHD-300 driven off the PTO of our 4066r, we need to raise the auger after every 12 inches of digging to keep the hole clear in an effort to prevent binding. Freeing a bound auger sometimes takes up to any hour, as there is no reverse mode on a PTO.
We need to build more fences everywhere.

I have found that stopping the auger at the bottom of the hole and lifting it out with the flights full of dirt works best with my 3 point PHD. Then pull ahead of the hole and spin the auger clears it better than shaking it. The 3 point PHD is rated for 540 RPM but I usually turn it at about 200.
I heard you mention about the lack of hydraulic flow for this attachment. Would the power pack have helped, or does it come up short on the flow output? Also, does the loader mount version beat the 3pt overall? Being able to go in reverse is a plus for the loader version. Interesting that you're using this with a 3rd function diverter on the 5075.
Down pressure, and ability to reverse are both major.
I bought an 6 inch auger a HarborFreight to start 16 inch post holes to put up two sets of gate posts on our gravel road here in north Alabama. The auger helped, but the digging bar and post hole diggers wore me out.
The hydraulic bucket mounted post hole diggers are wonderful, compared to the 3pt pto driven versions, in my opinion. The combination I was most familiar with was on a New Holland Bi-directional tractor. The tractor height and loader arms were about ideal as the arms were only slightly above parallel when digging started. The hydrostatic transmission allowed you to creep forward to maintain a straight hole fore and aft, and a simple turn of the wheel articulated the machine for left and right orientation. It worked rather well. Also the vision of looking at the loader off the rear of the tractor gave excellent vison similar to a skidsteer.
When laying out fences and posts, I used long tape measure. ( sometimes in conjunction with a string line ) This allowed me to visually check the straighness and measure the distance between posts accurately ( and be aestheticlly pleasing ) Post positions were laid out with clay targets you'd use for trap or skeet. They are easily visible and reusable and are pretty much unmoved by wind or rain. Small adustments could be made for corner and brace post diameters for the brace rod length. It all worked well to eliminate additional crumbing of the holes for post and brace fitment.
Additionally, I found that the use of a gravel, such as a 1' to 1.5" and down material (with fines) worked well for tamping the posts back in. It locked the posts in well, packed in easily and was far less labor intensive than trying to pack clay soils back in the hole to set the post.

Land pride makes a small version of this I've used on a friend's tractor.. man is it useful and beats the heck out of the normal 3 point post hole auger

Tim when you dig a hole with augers don't rotate on removal, so it can hold the dirt for removal from hole. If it's very dry soil like that was pour some water into hole to make the dirt sticky so its easy to get the soil out without a shovel! Tim from Tasmania, Australia.

I’ve found just the opposite. Keeping the auger turning cleans out the hole better.
I can see you doing a hundred more and never breaking a sweat. Get that man a shovel to keep the spoils from falling back in. Good to see Johnny 5 back in front of the camera too
Tim, I have found when using my post hole digger when I'm at the depth I want, I shut the auger off and lift it out. It seems to keep the dirt on the auger and not spin it back in the hole. Bob
We also remove the dirt with a shovel to keep it in a pile to help put it back in order to help fill the hole.

Just wondering if a small stick on level would have helped on the auger? Im only asking because I don’t know and it seems reasonable.
If you can cobble together a fancy laser auto-leveling land-leveler system, you can definitely figure out a camera / level setup so you can do all this without a second person. Even better would be an auto-leveling (vertical plumb) system that makes plumb holes each time. :) That would be a fun solution to watch.
You can tell augers make you nervous back from old days of the first 1025r! I remember that video I’m scared to buy a auger for my 1025!
That's pretty cool but not sure it's any better than a 3pt mounted post hole digger. I have a 3pt with 9" and 12" augers. It also has a slip clutch. Highly recommend the slip clutch. I went that direction after seeing you break shear pins with Johnny. Good work, hopefully run into you again sometime.

What about running a line from the rear remote to use rather than the third function. Would there be enough flow then?

Just saying. A bit difficult since your so deep and have to move forward and back, but in my dads post hole drilling days he pulled the auger out at high speed. That was PTO and 3point lift days but the speed spun quite a bit of loose dirt out away from the hole.
It’s a shame why you have to do this but that seems to be a nice setup. Thanks for the video.
Would that 3pt hydrolic unit possibly turn the auger better than just the tractors hydrolic?
Quick question, what are the advantages of having the auger dangle from the front loader over having one that attaches to the three point hitch? From the video it looks like the auger struggled to stay vertical in the front to back axis.
Mostly that it can apply downpressure. I believe it can also be reversed if it gets stuck in the hole, so it's easier and more forgiving to work with. But obviously you need a skid steer or a big tractor to run it, plus $.
You have to move the tractor as you drill with either a 3 point or a front loader, the loader gives you the down pressure & it can reverse too.
We have one where the auger is attached to the side of the bucket in the front. It's always a pain to get it lined up straight as there is an arch as the loader gets closer to the ground. It means having to move the tractor forward a little usually from time to time as you go. This is on an old non self leveling bucket so maybe that would help. I don't remember having troubles getting straight holes with our very old 3 point auger.

The 5075m gives you about 30% more hydraulic flow. According to tractor Data the 5075e has 11.4 GPM whereas the 5075m has 14.6 gpm (not including steering for both)
Would like to see you put that on your 3 series and see if it's capable I think a lot of people have a 3 series tractor compared to a 5 series and it would be nice to know if it works in fact I would be interested in purchasing one if it did so
I don't know that I see a huge advantage over the 3-point auger except one thing... You can turn it backwards! We've got tons of roots, and big ones, so turning it backwards would be nice!

You can apply down pressure. The 3 point augers are useless in my area because of rocks, they just stop and wont go any further.
@@cdw143 oh yeah! That's not a problem in our area, so I hadn't thought about it. It's more of a problem that it wants to dig too fast, here.
Do they make a post hole digger attachment for the backhoe?

That is a nice post drill! Looks like it worked very well with the 5075E even if the hydraulic gpm was a little low. Being reversible is a huge benefit.
It looks like a fairly large size post drill. Curious as to what the max diameter auger it is rated for?

Good morning Tim < wondering if your 5075E came with Third function from factory. I have been in touch with the dealership and doesn't sound like they have a way to add it on without going through a rear remote and using two levers to use it. Maybe you could shed some light on this for me. Thanks
It is a diverter mounted on the loader.
Big boy tractor time with Tim. I remember your ballast video you did with that tractor a couple years ago. I think your daughter was in it. I’m really into proper ballasting and following the owners manual for your equipment. Anyway you broke the mirror on your truck in that video. You estimated the repair cost would be $1000. You said you would give an update in a later video. I try to watch all your videos but I don’t remember ever seeing your update. Was it as expensive as you guessed?
Hail damage to my F450 the repair shop charged over $1200 but you can buy a replacement for about $400 or less.
It cost $1700 I think. I thought I updated everyone, but who knows!? That was a long time ago.

I know you've probably discussed this in the past but why go with a compact tractor over something like a compact track loader? Given you don't need multiple functions like running a snow blower in conjunction with a plow blade on the loader?
At least from my point of view jobs like this a ctl would excel at from the perspective of visibility and versatility
I think the theme of this channel is showing the versatility and ability of smaller tractors.
I get that this auger is really geared for a track loader, but is that the only reason you feel Johnny 5 is underpowered for this task? I have two different augers for my 1025R and they work great! As a matter fact the tractor can put out enough power to snap the mounting bolts which are there to keep from damaging the PTO shaft.
Use a harder shear bolt!
I’ve considered it, but I’ve been told that I could do damage to the PTO.
Skid steer would offer better visibility, get into tighter spots and the ease of clearing the spoils off the bit however, you didn't have to do it by hand run what ya brung. Maybe it was just me, it didn't look like the best tool for the task. It may be because most of the work is typically being done from the rear of an agricultural style tractor? It didn't look like the shuttle shift made for the smoothest of inching or fine movements and adjustments. As you stated it made this small task simple and worth having the attachment, but not suited for miles of fine line installation.
…and I drove this machine from my house…no need to trailer for 4-5 miles.
