Eowyn's casting in LOTR shows a regal and strong woman who had so much depth and character. She could restrain and control herself as a Leader, Lady, and when needed, a fierce warrior!
This ability to self govern is vital for men and women alike but our culture wants us to be accepted as we are....

What I liked about Eowyn was that she wasn't unreasonable and impulsive. Yes, she wanted to fight alongside other soldiers and be free of the shackles of womanhood. But she also knew when to step back. In Helm's Deep she wanted to fight until she was told that she had to guide and protect the women and children. She did because it was her responsibility. Her sense of duty for those who were too weak and helpless to protect themselves was much stronger than her desire to fight in a war.

Exactly. Ngila Dickson was the OG costume designer for LOTR and she took great care and detail to make sure all the different races of Middle Earth had clear, distinct, and unique visual cues in their costumes to make them easily identifiable without even knowing their name or where they were from. A note on the last part; finally!
That is the problem when Hollywood tries to make a strong female protagonist. In order to be strong they often write them as men, which was not the point of female characters.
Quite frankly, femininity can be a great aspect on making male characters as well; empathy, patience, caring for others, as well as bravery and assertiveness.
Male characters have this problem too where they are full blown masculine they are basically walking tropes, strong, tough, no emotions, attack things head on, mehhh it's not great representation despite it being a fantasy or Sci fi, even an action movie.
People are not one dimensional. There is a mix of both feminine and masculine in everyone, which for some reason many writers can't seem or don't want to show.
Now, with women starving for a strong female character, writers goof up again by making a woman character into a man.
"You want a strong woman? OK, so she f8ghts with swords, she tells people what to do, she doesn't listen to no one because she knows she's right, and she goes head on in every problem without a second thought." Great, you just made a character to be like my ass hole boss, and now she's going around thinking she is the hero. Ugh.

The part when she fights Feanor (his army, not himself) was an early writing of Tolkien that he changes many times. Also fighting one time in a civil massacre doesn't make you the great warrior of the North recognize by everyone like portrayed in the show.
One of Galadriel main trait was that she hates War and the violence which come with, and that the kinslaying she witnessed (having fight or no) kind of shock her and she turn to other way (toward Melian) in answer...

@@exelos91 I should have been more clear and I wasn't trying to imply that she faced Fëanor 1 v 1 she would have gotten murdered, while my dad tried to get me to read this book 30/years, ago it was way too difficult, I did revisit it after Peter Jacksons Trilogy, which was two years after I graduated from high school, it was my dad who I won't call a " Tolkien " Scholar, but the dude was obsessed with this story. Now beside me, possibly swearing that I read it was Christopher, not his who made these changes, that being one of them if that was indeed the case, she most certainly not went to middle earth to rule, but also to thrawt Fëanor, now does not mean she would be stupid enough to do so, not necessarily but it's not outside of the realm of possibility, I cannot think of gentlemen's name, he's a bit a of a shill for this show, but Tolkien describing Galadriel in her youth, he athletic build, there was something, I can't recall the quote, but it most certainly implied that she could hold her own against your average elder. What does her hating war have anything to do, with her possibly still trying to face Fëanor for slaying her kin on her mother's side, she hates this probably as much as loathes Morgoth or Sauron, yes she hates war, that's Galadriel I wanted see, I wasn't making a case for her doing what she does in this show, but if this show made in time different from now, lets say during Peter Jacksons was given permission or access to the Silmarillion, with what we've heard Galadriel can do, cleaning Dol Guldur, joining the white council the white council in the first assault against Sauron, when he wasn't ready to reveal himself, if luthean " yes far more powerful than Galadriel " if she can dodge an attack from possibly the most powerful Maia, hit this dude with a sleeping spell, and Galadriel a Noldor and believe half Telari, both faction who saw the light of Valinor, I'm quite sure she could hold her own if she had to " It's just like Odin once said and I am paraphrasing , a wize, King must never get excited for war, but must always be ready for it " she went to middle earth knowing shit was going to be real, she would literally walk with celeborn to Moria, yes I'm aware that her daughter so and was kidnapped by orcs, that ain't happening to no damn Galadriel. She's far superior to this imposter from this horrible show, but seeing Kate Blanchent wield a sword, would have been badass, a lot of the scholars did not like the scene five armies where she vaporizes the Gunder Bard Orc " sorry for my spelling I'm driving " but that scene was badass to a lot of hard core Tolkien fans as well. Again I didn't make that comment to discredit this brother, if you accuse me spitballing or head canon, I will understand, but I am by no means defending this show or her depiction

Now compare it to HOtD, which had a SMALLER budget and less production time and it's not even close. No contest the HBO show crushes the Amazon show in every category. And that's BEFORE you go into the total and horrific character deconstruction of all the major Tolkien characters and the God awful original characters they put in for "diversity" sake. It's a struggle to get through an episode of this show and I have no interest in watching further episodes whereas with HOtD, the time flies by while watching, I anticipate and am excited for the episodes each week, and it sucks me in from the very start of the episode all the way until the end.

Lol she was a warrior she fought alongside celeborn during the assault on Noldor. I can’t believe so many people are mad just cuz they gave her a military promotion to commander. Because that’s the only difference between the traits of her character and the books. Her entire arc is setting up the idea of letting this burden go and there’s nothing that is indicating she willl not become the wise fair figure we see in cate blanchett. And cmon insulting her looks really dude😂? Morfydd Clarke is just as beautiful as Cate Blanchett. Having her be a serious character that commands armies doesn’t make her masculine…is this you saying that because she doesn’t bow out of the way and let the men save the day in the end that shes not feminine enough 😂 I sympathize with fans cuz yes they made some alterations to the source material given the fact the Tolkien estate sold them 100 pages of the story. Being disappointed that you didn’t get your dream story is fine, but this is a more sexist criticism than a story evaluation

I don’t have any problem with a female character that has masculine traits the same goes with a male character that has feminine traits, I like the idea of breaking certain mindsets and stigmas, like strong men is masculine and female is kind and feminine etc. But the problem is that they changed a character that is known for being feminine and strong and they should have kept her like that that’s how people remembered her. I can also understand that people have become tired of the masculine female strong character and wish to see more from the feminine strong character but I don’t despise any of them.

So I love characters that doesn't fit in gender roles but that trend only perpetuates them. Legolas it has a lot of feminine traits without falling in that.

#1 reason being : The LORE!
Tolkien never, in not one of his many revisions to the narrative of Galadriel, did he write that while sailing back to Aman, she jumped off the boat in the middle of the ocean, and then was saved by Sauron....
This show spits in the face of Tolkien's actual words. The stories he wrote are fine as is, and these attempts to modernize and revise them are actually a detriment.
Any real fan of the actual lore knows this. I suggest they read "Concerning Galadriel and Celeborn" chapter in Unfunished Tales. C. Tolkien does a wonderful job putting together all the different notes and revisions that his father did on these two characters. (For example: did you know that in some of the last writings and revisions that Tolkien did on Middle Earth was a narrative revision where he had Galadriel and Celeborn sailing to ME before Feanor!) Definitely a must-read for anyone approaching this subject, and the fact that these show writers chose a narrative completely devoid and so out of touch with Tolkien's work, it verges on propaganda. How else can you explain their ignoring of the source material in favor of modern politically motivated choices?

It would also be kinda sexist ish bcs like, you dont need women to have masculine traits to be leaders. That's essentially saying you need to be like a man to be a leader. oof

I have no issue with her.and I think the actress is doing just fine. Considering she is playing a character in the 2nd age, it makes sense she wouldn't be the same 3rd age elf Cate Blanchett played in the movies.
