    David Crosby passed away today at the ripe age of 81. Respect to this absolute rock legend. Amongst all the hits you wrote in your amazing career, with the Byrds, solo and CSNY, I chose this "Almost Cut My Hair" to remember you. It is my favorite song because of your touching vocals, your powerful message and your beautiful soul. Rest in peace.

    "I feel like I owe it to someone"…no, David, WE owe it to you. Not merely our gratitude, but to "not give in an inch to fear", in the face of a world that wants us huddled, frightened and conforming in every way.

    My long hair was cut by the US Goverment in 1984 at Great Mistakes Naval Station boot camp. I vowed to myself that moment that when I was able, I would grow it back and never cut it again. Now after a 33 year career (20 in a corporate setting) where I felt I needed to comply with the going norms, I've retired and immediately started to grow my hair. It's now pony-tail length and I'm never cutting it again. I always think about this song when I think about my long hair, back then and now.... letting my "Freak Flag Fly"!! Hemi * one of the lines is very much like that ( looking back to the years of my youth ). To me it just naturally takes me back but the seemingly Flawless singing and playing of Jethro and his little brother Ian who just stuck around for the many steins of beer . The upside of this story related 2 the music. In a fit of jealousy of his younger and more talented brother Jethro(who also had drank many steins himself) attacked Him with his flute stabbing him only 2" from his heart through his lung. After forcing Jethro to sign over his estate he kills his older brother. The doctors tried an experiential treatment with medication. This forced him to have the flute which was left in his lung for two weeks. While the response of the medication worked he learned how to play the flute by breathing in to it by his lung. The only problem was he had to change his name for anonymity and evasion of prosecution. He assumed his brothers identity & then as a reminder to himself of what an amazingly clever of a fellow he is he named the band Jethro.

    I'm a son of a bald man, with a bald brother and bald uncles... The bald men's familly... At 16 years old I knew I would be bald... I strated to let my hair grow until my nipples. Long hair for 4 years and baldness arrived...
    Today I'm 38 years old, I'm bald and I still need this song at regular time. The sound of a life. My nieces are 14 and 12 years old, I made them listening to Dejà Vu... She told me "you look older because you are bald, but you are really cool with such music" :-)

    How times change, this is real music.
    This is the real deal, people who believed that we could change the world thru peace, love, understanding, and tolerance!
    We have lost something precious along the way.
    Every thing is on machines as far as music.
    We have lost our creativity as humans who appreciate the sound of pleasure. May God saves us from the machines and inspire. Beings to make that beats in their hearts!

      ***** no man, the point is you shouldn't have to treasure hunt for this stuff today. The stuff in the mainstream is garbage, and that's NOT ok. these old groups have soul and messages and science mixed with art mixed with philosophy. its effing brilliant, and we desperately need it back today.

    • @SameBasicRiff
      @SameBasicRiff 10 років тому +8

      ***** you dont get my point, i said you shouldnt have to dig for it. and even whats there is just a shell, hollow music for a hollow generation. the point is not to try to be mainstream, but to try to be good for musics sake. bands today might think they do that, but through over emulation they degrade themselves.

    • @Guillemmir
      @Guillemmir 10 років тому +15

      SameBasicRiff You're damn right. I would say: this song can't be taken out of a can... this is art, you have to cook it slowly, let the musicians make it happen. This is not something under the laws of marketing, production,... whilst one can produce (literally) stupid songs, played by pretty faces, and sell it around the world. It's the old soulless way vs art. We have art around us, as Niall says, let's hope it doesn't get too deep into the dark side. That's my point.
