Steely Dan - Do It Again (Extended by DJDiscoCat)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 вер 2024
- Amid the booming rock scene of the 1970s, in which anything seemed possible, Steely Dan made music that will last. That doesn’t make them unique, but it is a tribute to the enormous care and effort Becker and Fagen put into constructing the nine studio albums they made together under that name between 1972 and 2003. Their clever words, clever time-signatures and clever chords were the product of two enthusiasts dissatisfied with anything but the cleverest music they could possibly produce.
And so, very unusually in their chosen field, their wild imaginations were matched by their obsessively exigent craftsmanship. They were also some kind of weird cats. They were lucky to have their partnership, and so were we.

You would think that the algorithm would adopt a broadcast format with ads NOT in the middle of the song .

What an adventure, did you filmed?
Wow, awesome!
While reading this for a moment I was right there with you... what an awesome memory
I was never a big fan, but my buddy passed away at 50. We would spend hours talking music. He was a big steely dan fan, now I find myself listening just to keep the memories alive. I wish I could talk with him again
He is watching you enjoy this music and smiling that you finally enjoy this music, never too late.
Sorry for your loss . Life is not a easy thing to handle , it def has it's ups and downs
🙏 blessing you guys had such a tight bond of a friendship. I’m sure he’s listening to the music 🎼with you.
Steely Dan (Donald Fagen the ultimate recluse) was truly unique. Jazz and rock and Boston .. and frustration, anger and compassion in there. I miss my husband who was among many things rock n roll fountain of info and my best friend. And Any Major Dude a song I sing walking my dog sometimes on a cloudy day. xx Recommend Rick Beato channel. Best wishes.
Yes this song brings back memories of all kinds
❤
In perusing the comments, I noticed there are alotta old dudes (and dudettes) who are still loving them 50 or 60 years later. Count this old woman in❤😂
LOL ! Not so fast dear

I am 65 , so count me in , I was always a Steely Dan Fan and so far my 4 Grandchildren are having trouble listening to music performed by true musicians it seems foreign to them !
When I came home from Nam the first time and I stepped off the plane this song was playing over the loud speaker.Brings back memories. Welcome home to all that served and are serving.!!
I’m glad you made it home

Thank you 🙏🏽for your Service. Much RESPECT for those that seen action, and for those who made it back home.
I remember how returning Vietnam soldiers were treated. Terrible comes to mind. If JFK wasn't assassinated on Nov. 22, 1963 all this could have been avoided (with exception of career soldiers. I think they were called lifers). Thank you for your service Joe. 😥
Hello! I am 67 years now. When I was young I hear Steely first time. I'm love this band always! Greetings from Finland!
65 here, great band
Am about to be 64 yrs. and still rocking to this song, This one will be here for generations❣️😎✌️🌞

Yea,I never left, jamming with the 70s music.
Would love to be on that time machine with you
Can I go back with you too? Happy, rocky, fun days. And in many ways more innocent times...☀️
✌️❤
I’m coming along. My 2 through 12 years of my life were spent there. There is no comparison from then till now. The 70’s win hands down in every category except for smart phones & internet. But the world was a better place IMO. The movies the music the toys & even video games. Jaws .. summer of Sam my first GF & so many firsts. We also hated Iran. Man what a ride
Me too. x
Back then we had, singers, song writers, musician's and poets.
Amen to that. I’m 71 and we grew up with great music. This is certainly one of my favorites.
This band never wrote a bad song.
only Bad Sneakers
I'm 72 now and still have the Can't Buy A Thrill album I got in 71-72. As I've always said.... it's not a question of what's old or new.... it's what's good or bad. Great mix here.

Rock n Roll!!!!!! Larry, I'm 70 still Rock n Roll!!!!!! Till Death ☠️💀!!!!!
Bien tirada la pelota 🥎
I'm 63 and still listen to them a few times a week. I like the older stuff better. When Skunk Baxter and Denny Dias were with them.
Today's kids don't know what an album is we do we played them we wore them out we bought more we played them out we want more and it goes on and on and on but so does rock❤
FM radio was just coming of age. Steely Dan had it down.
And thank goodness too
I'm 63 years young and I love the music we grew up with kids have no idea what real music is.
i am64 years an love this song!!!!!!
I agree
Every kid grows up with their music, if it's '60's, '70's, '80's, '90's, '00's, '10's, '20's
If you like it or not, it's nonsense to say that only music from your childhood is music. Within a hundred years they don't even know what you see as the only music is! I like '70's, '80's, '90"s and so on.
Every time has good music!
Sadly ..for them.
@@user-lw8es1ur7h hell no honey.
People, we were born in a great time period. When I die, I wish the music would follow me.
Me too, the best years for the music
No Rick people will be listening to this music hundreds of years from now my man. That's the beauty of it its timeless.
My older sister turned me on to all classic rock songs...RIP Barbara Ann..she passed last year 61 no illness. Thank you Barb for introducing this fantastic band

Nobody like Steely Dan. Can't describe their music, it's just good...flowy.
Always Flowy; YFKM. grouse Music
Plenty of people like Steely Dan.
Steely Dan are very easy listening music very relaxing 😎 and the lyrics are very good too true to life 😊❤
I must comment. I must. Have enjoyed Steely Dan for nearly six decades! Never tire of listening to the genius of Fagan and Becker, and their ever changing ensemble. Musical story tellers extraordinaire. Regardless of enjoying many other types of music and musicians from classical, standards, southern rock, delta blues, Segovia to Satriani, SD thrills me. I listen and sometimes I laugh, or cry. They move me.
Rock on bro 😅
Well said🙂
Indeed 👍🏻
Most real musicians have respect or are huge fans of Steely Dan.
Most who hate and/or make disparaging remarks about Steely Dans tracks wouldn't know music if someone stuffed it into their ears with a
red hot George Benson LP...
Ain't no need to wonder why ..
Baddass music the best I ever heard
The spring of 10th-grade... skipping gym class... smoking black hash in the back seat of my buddy's Dodge Polara... driving 75mph over the Williston Hills. Those were the days!!! It's a miracle that we're all still alive;)
Now, that brings back memories for me 😊
Absolutely my friend. When dope was enjoyable. I cant touch the grass nowadays, it's way to strong.
Different geography, same youthful urgency. Miracle for sure!
If you follow David Sinclair you'll have 2 or 3 decades more.
I hear you loud and clear, those were the daysI still burn at 67 jamming with 70s music it never gets old.
I got you all beat I’m 81 years old and I still love Steely Dan
hope contreras 9884 above beat you, she's 83!
I love the fact that there are no "Thumbs down" on all these comments. Proof that it's so easy to get along with our fellow humans
Wow that's awesome, I didn't see that!!
Recording songs from the Radio to a tape recorder, anyone else do this? Iggy 2024
I did it every day! Those were the days.
Yes I did I have hundreds of cassette tapes made and still listening to them!
They were cheaper than CDs!
And my boom box!
Yes when in the Nam on Akia reel to reel.
I was maybe 8 yrs old when I heard this. Heard it in a shopping mall while walking past a lounge. The lounge was dimly lit... smoky... just had folks hanging out having a drink. When I heard it I immediately loved it. Back then, dam near everything on the radio was a work of art. Good times !!
My dad bought me the album for my eighteenth birthday, plus dark side of the moon. They were delivered too me by a girl who worked in the bookmakers that he ran. She was wearing a black Afghan coat, totally naked underneath. God how I loved my dad and his outstanding love for me
More to this story methinks
Ah, the love of a father, tis magical.
makin me lmao
Wait...WHAT? More please, details!
yeah right
When I came to New York from West Africa in the late 70’s I bought a Steely Dan album in Manhattan on a hunch. The rest is history. One of the best band ever!😄❤
You are clearly a man of taste and discernment, sir. I'm 73 and I followed the Dan from the beginning. I'm an audiophile and I played them on first class gear. Their production values were always immaculate.
Great hunch!
Don't really understand their music but love it.young people can't understand why we think their music is crap, listen to this band.
Just like our parents didn't like this type of music when we were young. It's evolution
@@rogerwilco4736This song speaks volumes about life the universe and everything
Rock classic that spans decades of listening pleasure to the masses! Brings back great memories of the 70's!
This is such a haunting song. For me, it put's my mind straight back into the darkest part of the 1970's. The raw Vegas gangster feel contrasts with the striving for decent values and good vibrations that Gerry Rafferty seemed to evoke.
i’m 62, man we had the era in music by A-Long-shot. today stuff can’t hold a candle to our day. God Bless our Generation!!!
yes sir, 62 and still puttin in that work, ny project kid who never looked back
Happy days, great music❤
Yeah our generation was certainly creative
Thank you everyone…..
Truly
Over 50 years back & it still sounds as fresh and progressive as it did back in the day--thank you for sharing with all of us!
I loved It and still do
I can say thank you to my brother for getting to listen to Steely Dan. Thanks Brother!!!
I'm 60 and these guys were always a measure of what was Real Musicianship.
Totally awesome musicians ,you’re spot on there
Truth be told
I’m 60 as well. We grew up in the greatest time in history for music.
they were, they are...and they will always be the Master reference 🙃
I'm 60 too amen brother
I loved steely dan
This song is so good, that if I don't listen to it at least a thousand times before I die, I'll feel cheated!
I feel the same about all of their songs, it's difficult for me to choose a favorite. I tend to listen to the older stuff instead of the newer albums they came out with. I've been listening to them for 50 years and will listen until I'm in the ground.
jajajaja!!!😂
you'll go back jack and listen to it again
Love all their music; which is very rare for me what a fantastic band! Glad I saw them several years ago! 🎉
Exactly what I feel. 💖
73 here, love Steely Dan
Ain't no band better than the DAN!!!!!!😊
One of the most underrated rock bands. Becker and Fagen sure knew how to get the right musicians for each project
Even this cut is too short. You could load an old woody station wagon with 8 people ranging from age 15 to 75 and they'd all be jamming to this extraordinary rock classic.
😂😂😂 Yep, I'm 71 and still enjoying as much as the first time I heard it!
Absolutely!!!!! 😁 Early 60's here!
The Urban Beat of Steely Dan is never better exhibited in this song. One of my favourite bands of the 1970s.
Hear you Australia here
I'm 64 and I'm rocking to this song right now oh man the memory Damn miss those days 🙂
The simple days
Me too
I am 66 I miss
First time I heard these dudes my buddy Don Parrish had just got out of the suck that morning and brought this album over to my house in base housing at Pendleton.I had a killer stereo I had acquired in Okinawa on my way home from Nam. I had duty NCO the day before so I was off that day and it was FRIDAY! I bought a case of Coors on the way home and Don brought some grass. We just jelled and smoked and drank through the whole album.I was really impressed with it because there isn't one bad song on this vinyl. We turned it over and played it again but I noticed a lot of noise coming from my neighbors back yard.I looked out my kids window and was horrified to see about 25 lifers from buck sgt to gunny dressed in OD's with ribbons and badges! Holy crap put that dope out now! At that time drugs would get you kicked with a bad discharge and some time in the brig. Turns out my neighbors Drill Instructor class was graduating that day so he invited them all to his place for a BBQ.So that's my Steely Day story and yes I have all their music.
Who's here in 2024
Me
Me 2😂
Me. Reeling the years....
YO
Eternamente❤😊
There really is happiness at the end of the rainbow 😊sometimes it comes to you late in life
When the new generation is growing, listen to electronic cacophony.....people like me grew up listening to the "real music" 🙏🏼 60s, 70s & 80s and the beginning of 90s were the Golden age of fine music 🥰
My Favorite Too.❤️
I often times feel extended versions of amazing classic songs lack the magic of the original. Not so here. Absolutely fabulous!!
Correct I agree with you on both
Donald Fagan, Steely Dan, here we go!!!! Back in the day, in the 70s.
There won't be music like this again love it!!!
Guy in the record store that knew me, gave me a nudge, and said “I think you’ll enjoy this album.” He was right, years later I’m still listening to Steely Dan. Great band.
Simply the most sophisticated band of all time...
Yes a Huge Donald Fagen fan. ❤Very Skilled Musicians difficult to find today 2024.
I’m so glad I grew up on Steely Dan. My first tape I ever bought when I was 15 yo. Man his greatest hits were just that! Greatest. Then decades later, pure perfection with the added extended version.
TO SAY THESE GUYS WERE AHEAD OF TIME!!! HELL, IF THERE IS A HIGHER LIFE OUT THERE SOMEWHERE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU!!! STEELY DAN WAS ALREADY THERE ❤
Have loved this forever…can’t get enough..so the extension is so appreciated..🇨🇦
This is pure perfection!
Brilliant
Why do we go back and do it again?Because it’s comforting to have repetition in your life it’s human nature
I'm 51 years of age and I still believe that steely Dan is one of the very "BEST" bands.Yet,I just wish they would show more of their "handsome" faces when showing their videos.
Totally agree, Holly. They are number 1 in my book! Loved them back in the day, still lovin’ them now! Their concerts are fabulous. Really miss Walter, may he Rest In Peace!
It matters not, Holly, how old we are, good music is good music, always! (And I’m 20 years older than you.)
Ditto what the other guy said. Rolling Stone called them "the thinking man's band" way back in the 70s
@@timothyshearer8389 I introduced Steely Dan to my friends in high school. In the early 1980s. We had to wait 16 years to see Steely Dan in concert. It was well worth the wait, I might add.
Yes Holly and this is a top song.
I agree sweet Charlotte
I started helping elderly talent about 15 years ago. My wife died 20 years ago and I just walked away from journalism and started out helping a rock star, then a Rockabilly legend. The latter needed videos done, so I did that too. Music helps people and if I write anything, it'll be to help an artist. Something positive. It's like giving back to the bands that helped me through my life. Used to listen to Steely Dan band on the hay crew as a teenager in the early 70's. And besides, I have more friends as a studio manager than I ever did as a writer. Man, that's good music!
It's 1973, and the living room is a shade of mustard , orange, brown and black. Do you remember, so a child is sitting in the living room crying silently into a book as this song was playing. I was 5 years old, and at 56, I still cry silently to the beauty of this song.🎉🎉🎉❤
I loved steely Dan today as I m 72
One of the works from the gold’s era of geniuses!
Its just a masterpiece !! music used to have real meaning...
Forgot how blooming good this track is 👍🏻
Every time I hear this song it takes me back to the end of the Vietnam War when dad worked at WABD across from the main gate of Ft. Campbell. I was just about 5 years old but I remember all of it. Those Soldiers impressed me and I finally became one in 1988. Mom and dad were hippies so they didn’t like it. I’m retired from the army in 2024 and mom’s in an old folks home and dad still doesn’t talk to me. Life is good though, my wife is 38 and we have a fine 9 year old son and we love and depend on one another. 🇺🇸
Awesome music in our times❤❤❤❤❤
I'm old grizzled and grey. I've spent many nights burning weed to this
Oh yeah baby! Doing that now
Fffffft!
That bass is dangerous! ❤
Love ❤️ your music. I’m a child of the 70’s. There’s no music that competes to what you have created. May you live as long as you want. And may you never want as long as you live.
Agreed indeed. Way before Ipods, Itunes, CD players. Used to hear these classics on vinyl records and cassettes. Good old happy days.

One of my favorite groups since 1972. Fagan,Becker and Katz created some awesome music that scanned all genres 🎶
Didn’t know Fagan , Becker and Chevy Chase worked in group together. Keep rockin Donald Fagan.
One of my favorite piece's of music. When my parents were out, I'd crank this up on our stereo. If it came on the radio, my friends and I would belt this one out as loud as we could. Still holds up.
Very good memories and I would love to do it again!!

They played this at a disco and everybody went crazy doing the hustle in the 70's
everyone got on the floor
God bless your father. He must have been a very smart and loving man.
Over 20 years ago my dad , a man who loved so many genres of music asked me what kind of music is Steely Dan. I kind laughed and thought about it. I replied it’s Steely Dan
Steely Dan - Do It Again
In the mornin' you go gunnin'
For the man who stole your water
And you fire till he is done in
But they catch you at the border
And the mourners are all singin'
As they drag you by your feet
But the hangman isn't hangin'
And they put you on the street
You go back, jack, do it again
Wheel turning 'round and 'round
You go back, jack, do it again
When you know she's no high climber
Then you find your only friend
In a room with your two timer
And you're sure you're near the end
Then you love a little wild one
And she brings you only sorrow
All the time you know she's smilin'
You'll be on your knees tomorrow, yeah
You go back, jack, do it again
Wheel turning 'round and 'round
You go back, jack, do it again
Now you swear and kick and beg us
That you're not a gamblin' man
Then you find you're back in vegas
With a handle in your hand
Your black cards can make you money
So you hide them when you're able
In the land of milk and honey
You must put them on the table
You go back, jack, do it again
Wheels turning 'round and 'round
You go back, jack, do it again
Donald Fagen / Walter Becker

Only 2 guys were Steely Dan? Unreal. I loved Cant Buy a Thrill and fell in love with the guy who introduced me to their music
No; many people in the band besides Walter B. and Donald F.
They used the best session musicians and singers available Jeff Porcaro Michael Mcdonald bloody loads of em search out the albums and read the sleeve notes you would be so surprised and amazed also check out a covers tribute band named Stealing Dan they do a good job and enjoy the music
I would only hear Steely Dan when we would travel up to NYC. They didn't play it much in the South. Been a fan since 1977 tho. Made an effort to buy albums when my Mom allowed me, lol great music great times
