Trent: Consider this training for how you are going to support Leo in the future if he does not win. You will choose your words carefully. You would not use the negative words such as: Loser, Failure, etc. Think about this for yourself. It’s okay to feel sad, bad, but don’t be so hard on yourself. Congratulations on getting to your first match and qualifying. You did more than multi-millions of men have done. Best wishes.

No loss, just gains- we get so hung up on winning that we miss the point of the tournament. It’s a community showing up to be the best they can be in that moment, it’s about gaining knowledge and experience.
This is a video about gaining experience and knowledge. In that you are a winner!

If you’ve never failed , you’ve never tried anything..that’s what I appreciate about watching you build. You make a mistake, you figure it out and you move forward. With so many younger people making whiny videos and shorts it’s refreshing to see people who are making a life through their willingness to learn, sometimes from their mistakes, and create a real life…

I did Karate competitions way back before MMA. Studied most of my young adult life. I learned two things about competition: Losing sucks, but, learning doesn't. Hang in there. There will always be someone better than you and you will always be better than someone else. Enjoy the process.

I retired as a massage therapist, and believe me if more massage therapists would volunteer their time and expertise to these highly competitive physical competitions so many competitors would not leave or wake up in the morning sore and hurting, their business would take off so fast.
My experience with volunteering at golf competitions and tri althalons gave me a boost with gaining more skills than any school can offer.
My business in three months gave me more satisfaction and helpful outcomes for my clients than 3 years working in a shop waiting for clients to book appointments.
I loved helping people, and that's what it takes to devote one's life to helping others.

I'd give up a LOT to be able to get back on a mat and go back to my days of often getting my butt handed to me, and then analyzing the fight to see what I could have done differently.

And Leo telling Da-Da he wants to push the button is what’s important …… count your Blessings….you have the option in life to act on your interest, that you are so creative to build your own friggin home !! And everything else…..Kuddos to your Aunt for caring for Leo and your fur babies. That’s priceless to feel comfortable leaving your baby with family, knowing it’s more Love than babysitting !! Father-in law who can live nearby….so many Blessings. I don’t have a soul as a 68 yo woman. Not my point, I have a good life, despite being alone. But, sometimes we must focus on our Blessings. And I know you know this…..after all, you guys are still dealing with loss. Blessings kiddos !!

My daughter is a purple belt and watching your weight and cutting a few pounds is very common but usually starts weeks before competition. That reduces the stress leading up to and on competition day. Also when she travels she continues to train wherever she is (regardless of whether there is an upcoming match coming up). Most gyms allow visitors to pay to use their gym. Jujitsu is a very humbling sport and the mental game is super important. Good luck in future competitions.

Trent, it’s all about sportsmanship! In every game someone has to lose and my dad was our coach. He always told his players it takes sportsmanship to lose and nothing to win. I’ve found that to be the truth. You did well!

Trent I was a baseball player when I was in high school. I got cut in my freshman year. I worked hard and in my sophomore year it paid off, I made the varsity team and played in center field the last three years. I used the loss as motivation. I was small but fast, I could cover center field with great instincts and speed, I also learned the strick zone better and became a stealing base machine. Had a scholarship to play in college but unfortunately blew out my knee in summer ball back in the 70's. Hold your head you competed hard. Learn from it. I have faith in you brother ❤

He really held his own for a long time! Well done, Trent! Good experience as the more you do it, the less nervous you'll be which will be a benefit. It was not an easy win for him, so you can be proud of that! You didn't lose, you went home with a bronze medal you earned and great experience! An Olympian with a bronze medal is still a medal winner Olympian! Oh wait, at the end it looked like you were on the 13th floor...maybe that had something to do with it. lol

Wow! His first big competition and he came away with a BRONZE! THAT is not a failure Trent! Glad you are not “too bummed” and yes, you will do it again. Hopefully, after some further contemplation, you may turn your feelings of failure into being able to see what you did accomplish and did enjoy on this trip. Reframing is helpful.

Don’t be so hard on yourself! You did a great job, especially without your coach being there. I hope you got home, hugged Leo and sat in the sauna to loosen up your muscles. For a stiff neck, turn your head to the right and nod like you are trying to touch your chin to your shoulder and then do it to the left. Do it 20 times. A physical therapist taught me that. Helps with headaches too. Congratulations on your win. 🎉

Trent, I think it’s important to remember that you are still learning. And we all have setbacks in learning things until we’ve practiced so many times and start getting comfortable with it. Take a look at the work you did on the first part of the house build a few years ago versus how you’re approaching it now with more confidence because you’ve had the experience, and you’ve learned from things that haven’t gone as well as planned. Please do not be so hard on yourself.

Trent, you are too hard on yourself. Not only did you not train as much as you would have, you braved the plane, with no emotional support Leo, your coach wasn't there, and you still showed up, and tried. You are incredibly brave and it's not like you are in your teens or early 20's. You are more athletic than most those ages! Show yourself some grace, and be really proud of yourself. Sometimes we take for granted the things we accomplish because we are too close to it. You are an inspiration and who knows what other 30 something that might decide to try something new because you have. Allie, I am glad you had fun, and were able to enjoy LA. You guys make me smile.

I like the phrase, "If you don't try, you've already failed". Taught Gymnastics and would tell the kids who would say, "I can't" That "can't never did anything". Over 60 now and there have been times that I look back and cringe at some of the stupid things I've done, self-sabotaged, insecurity, immaturity. But I've never looked back and saw not winning something as anything but a character building experience. Learning to be happy for others and their successes, good fortunes and blessings is an excellent human quality to have. Love you guys, God bless.

Your deal with the scale reminded me of a long ago memory. I joined the Woman's Army Corp in 1968, went to get my physical not knowing there was a weight limit - but I wasn't heavy so no big deal. But at 4 ft 11 1/2 in it was a big deal. I could only weigh 112 lbs. Their scale said 114. My recruiter knew someone at the Fort and he took me to his gym and stuck me in steam cabinet. It wasn't long before I was 111lbs. Took me back weighed me and I raised my hand and took the oath. Stuck me on a plane to Alabama - I get to Ft. McClellan and of course I had been eating and drinking since the steam cabinet and weighed 116 lbs on arrival. The platoon sergeant screamed at me saying she didn't know how I got in the WAC's. 9 weeks later I weighed 92lbs.
