  • Here's how to hear your students on Zoom when using Rode Wireless Go Microphone, or any other wireless microphone. It's different on a computer vs. a phone or tablet. You'll have no problem on a computer. Just make sure the microphone and speaker settings are set correctly. But on a phone or ipad, you'll need a work-around such as a bluetooth speaker.

    Just FYI, I couldn't get a speaker to pair while this was plugged in. BUT I did order Rodes SC15 cable and it worked perfectly. It keeps the native speaker on the iPhone, but still activates the RODE wireless mics. So I can hear my zoom audience through the speaker on my iPhone. Rode should make this a lot more clear for those looking for mobile solutions.

  • @matthewjackson805

    Hi Ashley. I bought all the stuff but (!) I think I figured out a slightly better way if the person already has a bluetooth speaker: instead of buying a USB to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter (USB or USB-C) to have a "separate sound device," it seems you can achieve the same thing by simply connecting a bluetooth speaker and using that to hear your students. Set Zoom sound output to bluetooth speaker, use the Rode SC7 cable (a must, yes, verified as well as necessary in this configuration) into Macbook and now you have sound you can place anywhere (instead of fixed laptop speakers) and the mic works super. And don't have to buy USB or USB-C to 3.5mm adapter. Working great for me anyhow on a mid-2017 Touchbar MacBook Pro. THANK YOU FOR THE GUIDANCE!! Very helpful!!

    • @AshleyHagen
      @AshleyHagen  3 роки тому

      I’m happy to hear it works for you. The Rode does not plug in through the headphone jack for many computers, with any cables. None of the headphone jack cables work in my 2015 MacBook Pro. I’ve tried all configurations, splitter cables and more. MacBook Air is different and can directly plug into the headphone jack. Maybe some other computers are too.

  • @JaredCastello
    @JaredCastello 2 роки тому +1

    That trick works for Zoom where you can select microphone and speaker inputs separately, but probably not for Instagram. A mic/headphone splitter might work if you plug the SC7 into the mic and a bluetooth speaker (with TRS input) plugged into the headset one.

    • @AshleyHagen
      @AshleyHagen  2 роки тому

    • @AshleyHagen
      @AshleyHagen  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, if you are using the advanced share settings to play the sound, it's the same that you would do with any microphone. You can set the Zoom settings to pick up more of the background music. You'd have to play with the settings if you are using external music (not sharing through Zoom), just test it.

      @@AshleyHagen Thank you for your reply Ashley. In the meantime I found a solution that works. What you can do is purchase the RØDE AI-Micro (rode.com/interfaces-and-mixers/ai-micro) and connect that to your iphone. Then you plug your Rode Wireless and an additional audio cabel into it which you then connect with any speaker. It works perfectly fine for me and that way I can film with my camera, see my students on my laptop and hear them on my external speaker. Hope that helps.

      Depending on your computer, the black/black cable may not work with your computer and will definitely not work with your phone. You'll need to get an adapter that is 2 rings to 3 rings on the tip (TRS to TRRS). Whether it's the Rode SC7 (black/gray) or another brand, you may need an adapter or a different cable for it to work with your device.
      You can put music behind your class, but only from a computer using the "advanced sharing" options on zoom. Not from a phone or tablet.

      Are you plugging the USB-C into the microphone and the headphone jack into the computer? I don’t think that will work, and it’s also not what I recommend in this video or my others. Get the Røde SC7 cable (TRS to TRRS) and use that. Watch my other videos listed in the description for how to plug into a computer.

      The Rode Wireless go will try to cut out any background noise, including music. I don't recommend trying to play music in the background over the top of your voice. If you are using a computer for Zoom, use the advanced screen share settings to share your computer audio from your computer to your Zoom students so they can hear the music. If you absolutely need to play music in the background over your voice, use something like a Blue Yeti microphone instead, that will pick up more of the entire sounds of the room.

      Rode Wireless Go. I purchased on Amazon (links in video description). It's about $200, plus or minus, and the additional cord you need is $15. I also bought a case to keep it save for $15.

      @@edulitix It's not an ideal set-up. It's why I prefer using a computer. If it doesn't work, you'll have to find another work-around or use a difference device/microphone option. Bluetooth earbuds work great. I also don't know what Zoom and "Teams" are. If you're talking about Microsoft Teams, I do not know anything about it.

    Unfortunately, It won't work on IPad , the only way to use zoom voice input on IPad while using external mike is by connecting it to Apple TV.
